Default 3D Airport Scanners - Just Say NO!

Suggestions -

- Ask the guard, "Have these things been tested for long or short term health effects? If so, on whom? If so, by whom? Will they melt my contact lenses to my eyes? What do they do to my organic matter?'

- 'I need some paperwork to back up any claims that this is actually good for me. Where are the studies? What if I have to fly 3x/ week or more and I also get regular x-rays for a medical condition?'

- 'Is there any cumulative damage I can expect here? Do you know? Shouldn't you?'

- Hand the guard a Rense report or something. "Airport Backscatter X-Rays Destroy DNA - Feeling Lucky? How Terahertz Waves Tear Apart DNA 1-4-10"]

- 'What if I don't want to be viewed naked?'

- 'And hey, what's done with all those images of naked bodies anyway? Are they stored? Compiled? Is the collective data analyzed? In any way? Is it viewed by any other government agencies? Is it sent through any massive computer crunching mo-chine body type database for uber racial profiling or for any other reason?'

- 'Why should I consent to this standing in front of this scanner when other airports, with higher security risks, say Tel Aviv, don't have any scanners - and seem to manage airport security just fine?'

- Ask to see the guard naked. A lot of airport security threats come from mob activity - insiders who are staff.

- Consider exclusions. 'Hey, aren't strip searches illegal? I don't care if you know it's me or not. I know it's me.'

LOL no-caste. I guess next time you go to fly from an airport with one of these scanners that you'll soon (re)discover the joys of long distance bus travel!? I don't imagine the operators or their supervisors give a flying fig about your health concerns. Unless MANY people refused and cost the airlines a lot of lost revenue? Is that wishful thinking? Would enough people be prepared to take a stand & opt out, knowing the inconvience they likely bring upon themselves? Would you be threaened with being tagged as a trouble maker & put on a no-fly list? Many questions, how relevant are they?

Givin' 'er a whirl... wrote my govt rep already

These are relevant questions though. In Canada, it was the CBC that tested tasers, which tended to misfire and kill people, when the cops thought they were just StarTrekish stun guns. Neither the RCMP or any government agency thought to test a product that Taser International assured everyone was fantastic. They sold, well, how many in Canada. Everybody was on the company brochure page.

So, what's going on with this .... faneffintastic scanner. The Rense article is actually a re-print from Technology Review published by MIT.
http://www.technologyreview.com/blog/arxiv/24331/

Also, what if a person had objections to scanning (nakedness) on religious grounds? Anyway, I'm going to write my regional Airport Authority and some airlines. I'd like to know what's up with it, e.g. can I get a refund if I say No. So I miss a flight. So company is mad. So airline is mad. So airlines get shakey.

It's a so what intifada. lol

Yes, your questions ARE all relevant. Be interesting to see the answers you get. Your example of blanket intro of tazers without 'due dilligence' by authorities and their subsequent denial of tazer lethality (is that a word?) is well made.
I wonder what Bill & Kerry & other Avalonians would do if confronted with one of these scanners?
Would choice depend on how often one flies?

Reply re my Airport Authority query! Also, a point: if 'terrorists' attacked the USA, what does this have to do with Canada.

Hello,

Thank you for your comments regarding the scanners. The *** Airport Authority shares your desire for a safe security screening process. While the *** Airport Authority provides the physical space for the passenger and baggage screening processes, it is the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), that are responsible for purchasing the units and they are accountable directly to Transport Canada for compliance with its regulations.

Hello ***,

Re: The announcement of 3-D body scanners in Canadian airports - Have these things been tested for health effects? If so, on whom? If so, by whom? - I heard a professor at the University of Calgary (Centre for Military and Strategic Studies) mention that anyone intending to blow up a plane will just place explosives in their body cavities. - I need some paperwork to back up any claims that this is actually good for me. Where are the studies? What if I have to fly 3x/ week or more and I also get regular x-rays for a medical condition? What will happen to my elderly parents, if they fly? Doesn't the 'technology' violate child pornography laws, for children? - There is a report: 'Friday, October 30, 2009 - How Terahertz Waves Tear Apart DNA' in the Technology Review published by MIT http://www.technologyreview.com/blog/arxiv/24331/ - What if I don't want to be viewed naked? For religious reasons? - What's done with the images of naked bodies anyway? Are they stored? Compiled? Is the collective data analyzed? In any way? Is it viewed by any other government agencies? Is it sent through any massive computer crunching CSIS, NSA or other intelligence agency for civilian profiling or for any other reason? - Why should I consent to this standing in front of this scanner when other airports, with higher security risks, say Tel Aviv, don't have any scanners? - Are there any exclusions? Aren't strip searches illegal? These are the first of my inquires. When at the airport, I will say, 'No' to scanning. Will I get an airline ticket refund if I am not allowed to board? Thank you.

CBC News has confirmed that the machines, which can scan through clothing, be installed in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.

Full-body airport scanners on trial
Last Updated: 7th January 2010, 8:10pm
A computer screen shows a scan of a security official in a RapiScan full-body scanner at Manchester Airport in Manchester, northern England on Jan 7, 2010. The radiation risk from full-body scanners used to improve airport security is low and unlikely (?!) to raise an individual’s risk of cancer, U.S. experts said yesterday. Airports in Britain, the Netherlands and Canada have said they plan to use full-body scanners to foil future terror attempts. (REUTERS)

Well...'unlikely' doesn't sound very ... scientific.

Hello xx,

Sorry for the delayed response, to answer your immediate question, yes the full body scanners have been implemented at all major airports as an additional method of screening on Transborder flights presently. Unfortunately, I will have to pass you on to our correspondence section to address the health concerns you have with the equipment. Thanks again for your comments.

The questions are relevant, and are being ignored e.g. the quote below:

Quote:
MEPs raise questions on the use of body scanners
Fri, Feb 12 2010 10:51 CET

http://www.sofiaecho.com/2010/02/12/...p=0#addcomment

Raising health concerns and criticising the introduction of scanners in UK airports, British Conservative Charles Tannock warned: "This is the first time ionising radiation is being forced on people...it is more dangerous to skin and soft tissue than radiation on planes".

However, Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas told MEPs, "there is no proposal to introduce compulsory machines in all airports, we will come to you after April following a study on all aspects of this technology".
Those thinking about flying should check out their country's stance on them i.e. in the UK 'you have no right to refuse', if asked to go through the scanner you either go through or you don't fly.

We stopped flying once the phony war on terror began. I will not be subjected to this totalitarian treatment. I am a free man and should be able to move about without anyones permission.

I wonder... if EVERYONE insists on the guard going in it before you do... you know- to make sure it IS safe...

Now imagine... how many times it would take before they start re-thinking about all that radiation in THEMSELVES...

yeah... start making it PERSONAL... and I bet it won't take long for them to back off...

how about this...

insist that the guard do it before you will do it... you know - to show you that it IS safe...

now imagine if EVERYONE made the guards go in before they would go through the thing... they might just get the idea to research how all that radiation will effect THEM...

what do you think?

I think the guard (to keep his job) would do it, & because he probably has no clue as to the danger levels of the scanner. or he would tell us to simply not fly, if we are refusing to go through it. Thats what happend with the 2 Muslim women. They refused to go through it, & they were told to go home, which they did.

I think we need a plan.

There's your plan.
When no one goes through, then no one flies.
When no one flies, plane companies go broke.

Before plane corporations go broke, they'll lean on Congress-Critters.

I'm with you on this one Fred...however, the business people who fly for their jobs & others who may be flying home for family reasons will still fly, because there is no other way for them to get to their destination. Somehow I don't see enough people protesting by "refusing to fly".

Should be interesting to watch for how they will deal with the Muslims who are citing religious reasons. Maybe we will have to develop a new religion that forbids us to let our bodies be displayed
