Default Alien-like Squid With "Elbows" Filmed at Drilling Site

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/11/081124-giant-squid-magnapinna.html

A mile and a half (two and a half kilometers) underwater, a remote control submersible's camera has captured an eerie surprise: an alien-like, long-armed, and—strangest of all—"elbowed" Magnapinna squid.

I've long suspected that the images for aliens that they come up with for movies come from critters we've rarely (if ever) seen.

Yes this species seems to be used a lot in alien encounters, could there be a species of octopus or squid with intelligence, i fear so a documentary some months back portrayed how intelligent these creatures are.
An octopus which was kept in a glass tank was actually lifting it's lid at night when no one was around then returning while the aquatic centre was unaware, only discovering later that the creature was captured on video while it was taking it's nightly jaunt.

Beautiful animal - I feel sorry for it though. They're drilling for oil in this thing's backyard. A pity . . .
