Resources for Ladies...
I'll preface this by saying that I think these are great resources, no matter what happens with our economy in the upcoming years.
Assuming the worst case scenario and that everyday things we usually find at the drugstore become unavailable.... Luna Pads & Diva Cups: http://www.lunapads.com/ (Purchased both last month. So far I've been very pleased with quality, comfort, and the company's customer service). Book: "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler OK, the title isn't sexy. Maybe the topic isn't sexy, either. But this book, which I discovered last month, teaches a natural way to both prevent conception without the use of hormonal or barrier devices or to increase the likelihood of conceiving, depending on what you want. It is NOT the "Rhythm Method" and it is NOT a method that is affiliated with any religious belief. I am so glad I bought this book. There is a ton of information in it, information I couldn't believe I didn't know about my own body before. I think it should be offered to all girls in high school, but that's a whole other matter... Book: "Herbal Healing for Women" by Rosemary Gladstar This book teaches the basics of making balms, tinctures, poultices and teas and then goes into detail re: which herbs are best for treating common ailments that women experience. The author addresses women's needs from puberty right through to menopause and beyond! An informative and lovely book. Please feel free to add additional resources to the list. |

Timing is everything, Chaordic. Understanding cycles. Women can't get pregnant anytime, there are only a few days/month where women are fertile. So go have some fun w/consenting women in the know.

Re: Resources for Ladies...
How about promoting tantric sex, where there is no ejaculation or as little as once a month (that is a sexually active month)
Sounds good to me... |

Re: Resources for Ladies...
Thanks for the posting Nenuphar,
I'd like to add Glad Rags as another resource for ladies. See www.gladrags.com They have a wonderful line of organic cotton reusable menstrual pads, pantliners and other useful products for women. If you go to Glad Rags website they often have sales/special offers available. It's good to make the switch now as disposable products simply will not be available and once you get used to this system, it's really easy. From a health standpoint, eliminating a very personal exposure to chlorine-bleached, dioxin-containing, plastic-layered hygiene products is a wise move. IMPORTANT: For those with teenage daughters, or daughters who will be going into womanhood during these upcoming years, Glad Rags has a smaller size "day pad" which will be a better fit. I mention it because they do not list this on their website, but if you phone them (1 800 799 4523) and ask, they will trade out regular size day pads for the smaller ones. Best wishes to all, Athena |

Also small natural sea sponges or the Keeper/Diva Cups are excellent for menstruation.

eXchanger-
Could you share more information about this 8-12 hour period? I've never run across such info and have been working on my vibe for awhile. No such luck here though thinking about it I guess they may be a tad shorter. |

Re: Resources for Ladies...
Thank you Nenuphar, for the links. I've ordered for myself & my daughter.
Another great product, although not strictly for females, is "Tooth Soap." All natural, no fluoride, or glycerine. http://www.perfect-prescription.com/dentalhygiene.php? |

Re: Resources for Ladies...
Hi Ladies...
Thanks Nenuphar for starting a topic like this. Deffo something I've been thinking on lately... The 2 books you have mentioned I have heard great reviews for both. Just need to get buying them myself. Has anyone ever thought about the chance of menstrual periods stopping altogether due to trauma, shock, worry, stress? I'm thinking its pretty likely that this would happen, due to the changes that we all would be going through. What are your views on this? Peace and love |

Re: Resources for Ladies...
Hey Nire-Riada,
I think its possible...I've personally had experiences where I was either late or early due to stress, changes to diet, environment, etc. I think the body picks up any changes that our conscious blocks out and reacts. Sometimes tho, I really resent being a woman, especially knowing some people think of me as being only a sexual object and a baby machine. |

Hey LT Ripley,
I so know where your coming from with the Baby Machine/Sexual Object...Pee's me off at times myself, at least we know thats not the case. I myself have had personal experiences of changes in cycle due to stress etc. I'm pretty sure its a big possibility of it happening. If the planets changing, we will also be. Peace and Love. |

I finally put myself on an 80% raw/20%cooked foods, organic vegan diet for about a year and a half. It worked, no more kidney infections. One of the side effects that I read about was that women would continue to ovulate but there would be little or no discharge. I read that this was the experience of women in many, but not all, older cultures. If I remember correctly, the places were the South Pacific area where little or no meat and no dairy products were eaten. It also mentioned that these women didn't go thru much of a menopause either. The book that this was in stated that most of the discharge was due to injesting things that the body didn't want Dairy products seemed to be the biggest culprit, raw orgainc milk being the best to use if you do. I doubt this is in any medical books, but that was my experience and that of the women I passed it on to. I don't go to doctors for most things anyway so get my med help from an acupuncturist/herbalist. We trade services -- bargaining is where we are all headed anyway. Prepare; go vegan, raw and organic as much as possible. |

Re: Resources for Ladies...
Well, so far I seem like the only "oldster" here! Im 51 and still have regular, heavy periods. I luckily dont suffer many pre-menapausal symptoms. I do get hot flashes occasionally, pms, bloating, etc, but if I stick with mostly fruits, veggies and fish (alcohol, dairy products and red meat are big contributers to hot flashes) then I stay pretty much symptom free.
I would recommend milk thistle (either capsule or liquid form, although I prefer the capsule as the liquid was unpalatable to me even though you mix it with water) I take 500mg a day. Its a great liver detoxifier as we take in so many toxins every day and our poor livers have to work overtime. Thanks for all the great suggestions and links ladies! |

Re: Resources for Ladies...
Herbal teas that might be helpful (I've stocked up on a few!)...
http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com...women%27s+teas http://www.sweetdoveherbs.com/moteas.htm (Canadian) http://www.florahealth.com/flora/hom.../TG3.htm#R5129 (Canadian) http://www.tealand.com/ForWomen.aspx http://www.crazyfortea.com/herbalteaforwomen.html I have not tried all of these brands, nor have I read through all the information on these sites. Although I have greatly benefited from using herbal teas (varieties from the Traditional Medicinal and Flora brands, specifically), it should go without saying that each person should do their own research into the products and decide what is best for their health concerns. Re: Resources for Ladies...
1) Re: menstrual cycles
Yes, our menstrual cycles will "get out of whack" if/when we are stressed, but here is a bizarre fact; the cycles of women who are in a group and live/have close contact with each other will start to match. Some women will have shorter cycles while others have longer cycles.. until they are all on their periods at the same time! 2) Re: contraception Better than the rhythm method, women should learn how to gauge their discharge. A woman's discharge will become thick, egg-white like and gooey when she ovulates. This is a better prediction of ovulation than the calendar method. Remember, an egg is viable for fertilization for about 24 hours. Sperm on the other hand, can live about 4 days... So watch what you are doing 5 days before and 2-3 days after ovulation. 3) Inducing a miscarriage/abortion Women in traditional cultures for centuries have known how to abort a pregnancy. Some acupressure points works, as do some herbs. It is well known that Queen Ann's Lace makes a good "morning after" tea. Here is a link to some info: www.naturalmiscarriage.org |
