I can believe this, i have a ritual of things i do i feel prevents me from being sick, with that i have only been sick 4 times probably in the past 10 years, never broke a bone.

Yep , prevention is KEY in my opinion, but that this makes NO money for BIG pharma so its not encouraged mainstream wise... hence the latest trend in trying to make alternative/preventative, medicines/supplements illegal..

The only problem with placebos is that they require some form of deception.

On the bright side they do give us insight into the greater powers of the mind.

In my opinion the scientists should focus on how we can understand this ability rather than how to use a placebo to induce the effect of such an ability.

Tea, I don't think placebo is necessarily deceptive. As long as the person wanting to change sincerely believes in the process or protocol, then their body, mind, and spirit embrace the idea and healing occurs. Deception is just one way to make the person a believer. Point taken though.

And thank you Astrid for this post!

As long as the person wanting to change sincerely believes in the process or protocol...!

Or more importantly believes in the one doing the practice....

"Or more importantly believes in the one doing the practice.... "

Agree, mentally I included this premise. Germaine to "process or protocol".

Dr. Joe Dispenza has great information on this concept, only much deeper. The mind determines how the body functions. The body function is picked up by the mind and emphasized. The loop continues. So, whatever you think is what you become. Funny how the great avatars knew this thousands of years ago.

The problem here is that in order for a placebo to work you cannot know that you are receiving one, at least from my understanding. So, if someone believes in the process, protocol, or practice then they seemingly would also understand that they are going to receive a placebo. This would likely prevent the placebo from having any affect.

Personally, a placebo is nothing more than an intermediary; it can have a use but it is not necessary. What we need is to teach people that they can heal themselves, which in turn will lead them to believe that they can heal themselves.

That's bascially what happened to the knee patients in the video, for example. They healed themselves. The doctor really did nothing but provided the context that these people believed would heal them. In short, their belief that they would be healed is what caused their healing, not the placebo.

....and who could argue with that logic and with someone named Tea? ;)

Astrid, would you want to share your life saving story? There is no subject that currently holds my interest more than self healing. Convention has offered no solution for me. Remedy lies elsewhere.
