Well they're at it again. I just saw an NBC ad for the Fort Worth Police Department hosting a gun buyback program tomorrow (Saturday 12/9/17) from Noon to 4 PM at the Saints Catholic Church parking lot. You'll get a $50 VISA gift card for any gun--no questions asked.
So despite all the studies that have shown that gun buyback programs are ineffective and largely only remove broken guns, guns not typically used in crimes, and guns sold for profit by gun dealers and owners, we continue the gun buyback programs that the taxpayers have paid for over the last four decades. It does my heart good knowing our tax dollars are being spent on such worthwhile programs.
And the feel-good crowd can begin to "feel even safer" now that a New Jersey Democratic Congressman has introduced the H.R.3613 Safer Neighborhoods Gun Buyback Act of 2017 (https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/3613/text?format=txt) to Congress.
Gee, I'm feeling goosebumps all over just knowing that we're one step closer to removing all the guns so we can all "feel safer." We won't actually be any safer, but we can at least feel safer. Don't ya just love these do nothing feel-good programs? ;)
Oh, and in case my post isn't clear, I am absolutely not an advocate for gun confiscation (even though I own no guns). I understand and am a firm believer in the second amendment to the Constitution and realize that guns don't kill people, people kill people.
