'Attempted Terrorist Attack' in N.Y.C. Subway Injures 3 Plus Suspect (http://people.com/crime/explosion-port-authority-bus-terminal-new-york-city/)
7:20 a.m. in an underground passageway from Seventh to Eighth Avenues, a busy commuter area near Times Square and the Port Authority Bus Terminal the 27 year old detonated a device.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Akayed Ullah, from Brooklyn, allegedly detonated “an improvised low-tech explosive device attached to his body,” NY City Police Commissioner O’Neill said.

The Commissioner will not say what the suspect said, prior to the explosion.
Such was a low grade improvised (home-made?) pipe bomb.
Most of the media are starting to pick this up.

Five people, including the suspect, have been injured but none of the injuries are life-threatening.
The transit hub, one of the busiest in the US, has now reopened.
A bomb has exploded on a Manhattan subway platform leaving five people injured in a suspected-Isil-inspired attack.
The suspected bomber is Akayed Ullah, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi national who is thought to have lived in the US for seven years.
Ullah, who lived in Brooklyn, was armed with a five-inch metal pipe bomb and battery pack as he walked through a midtown Manhattan transit hub, sources told the New York Post. Mr. Ullah had the device attached to his body with velcro and zip ties, and he was walking east in the passageway when it detonated, the police said.

There are no additional known incidents at this time, no additional activities, said New York Mayor Bill De Blasio.
The Mayor told a press conference that the incident, which happened at the start of the city's rush hour, was "an attempted terrorist attack."
"All we know is there was one individual who, thank God, was unsuccessful in his attempt," he said.
Mr De Blasio added a fuller investigation would follow. //

Various updates, i.e. The National Review
"According to NBC News, multiple law enforcement officials have said off the record that Ullah made statements leading them to believe he was inspired by ISIS.
"The suspect arrived in the United States with an immigrant visa on Feb. 21, 2011, and is now a legal permanent resident holding a green card. A New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission spokesman told NBC that Ullah was a cab driver in the city for three years, until March 2015. He is 27 and a resident of Brooklyn."

Federal authorities running a sting operation arrested a 21-year-old Bangladeshi man, who came to the U.S on a student visa and was allegedly planning to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank of New York with what he believed was a 1,000-pound bomb, officials said. Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis was detained Wednesday after an alleged attempt to detonate the device, which was inert and part of an elaborate investigation by federal authorities and NYPD detectives.
Prosecutors say Nafis was apparently motivated by al Qaeda and traveled to the United States in January under the pretext of attending college in Missouri in order carry out "a terrorist attack on U.S. soil" and to recruit members to form a terrorist cell.

Zero-Hedge report - "Suspect planned this attack for Years"
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-12-11/nypd-responding-explosion-port-authority-subways-evacuated
Update (12:30 pm ET): Akayed Ullah, the 27-year-old would-be suicide bomber who detonated an explosive device underground near the Port Authority Bus Terminal this morning - an attack that was timed to coincide with morning rush hour foot traffic - told investigators that he carried out the attack to mete out revenge on America, which he blamed for bombings in his home country, according to the New York Post.
The Post added that Ullah was an NYC cab driver until recently, when his licensed lapsed and he neglected to renew it. Ullah told authorities in sum and substance from his hospital bed: “They’ve been bombing in my country and I wanted to do damage here,” sources said. Ullah attached two pipe bombs to his person using velcro and zip ties.
The bombing occurred around 7:20 am inside the subway passageway between West 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue and West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue. Ullah suffered burns to his hands and abdomen, along with lacerations.

The attack was the second on New Yorkers in six weeks, coming after a man in a rented truck drove up a crowded bike path on Halloween. Monday’s explosion came at the height of Christmas season, when the city is filled with daytrippers and tourists expecting a fairytale Manhattan.
New York Mayor Andrew Cuomo said a bombing in the subway is 'one of our worst nightmares' - but he said New Yorkers will get through this as they have before on 9/11 and even the most recent terror attack on Halloween.

Two recent notable pipe bomb attacks:
On 27 July 1996, Eric Rudolph used a pipe bomb in the Centennial Olympic Park bombing during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It killed two people and injured 111.
On 11 December 2010 a suicide bomber detonated one out of six pipe bombs close to a major shopping district in Stockholm, Sweden, killing himself with no other casualties in what are known as the 2010 Stockholm bombings.
(from Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipe_bomb)
The pipe bomb alone is not a very effective killing devise. Eric Rudolph's bomb caused one death because of a heart attack, and the other because the bomb was surrounded by Masonry nails. Most of the victims today went to the hospital because the noise put them in shock or damaged their hearing.
Perhaps there could be bigger, badder, pipe bombs someday, but the most costly damage today was that New York City's biggest bus terminal was shut down for a couple of hours.

This "attack" was nothing in grand scheme. Wearing a vest (no pipe bomb) made up with Christmas lights for wiring sugar and a battery.
In NYC we have to deal with this once a month and a few events make national news like the Halloween truck killing.

Lets all take note that this is labelled as terrorism, while the LAS VEGAS thread title wasnt.
So if a white person does it, it isnt terrorism.
But if it is a non white person, then it is?
Terrorism as defined by the US federal government is "the threat of or use of violence to bring about a political change".

NY City official charges against "the terrorist", include making a facebook statement - Feds appear to be saying that statement then is a "threat", a "warning" directed to Trump..
The man who faces terror charges over Monday's bus terminal bombing in New York posted a warning to President Donald trump just before the attack.
"Trump you failed to protect your nation," it read. The post by Akayed Ullah was revealed in charges filed by federal prosecutors on Tuesday.
They say the 27-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant carried out the bombing in support of the Islamic State group.
He wounded himself and three others in Monday morning's attack.
Mr Ullah is accused of blowing up a crude device strapped to his body in an underpass at Manhattan's Port Authority Bus Terminal during the rush hour.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) tweeted that he was facing state charges including criminal possession of a weapon, supporting an act of terrorism and making a "terroristic threat".
The federal charges, announced later on Tuesday, include providing material support to a foreign terrorist organisation, using a weapon of mass destruction and bombing a public place.
