If I was David Icke I wouldn't be losing too much sleep over this.

Facebook and Zuckerberg actually believe that their fatuous drivel-generating platform is important enough to need protecting from the likes of David Icke?

Most sane people would prefer to keep this steaming pile of doggerel that is Facebook away from themselves.

Zuckerberg is a megalomaniac who is trying to own the World Wide Web and there are too many suckers in the world helping him do it.

Facebook has developed into such a huge presence on the internet. It is almost necessary to be a member to follow activities of many social, civic, as well as business and religious organizations. It has in essence become a public accomodation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_accommodations). While there are clear laws the lay out how places banks, shopping malls, etc. because they have woven themselves into the fabric of public life, must be accessible to all members of the public. The same should be true of Facebook and other places in Cyberspace. Facebook wants to know what you are feeling and what you are thinking. Therefore, all individuals should be allowed to express their thoughts and feelings in this forum.

The U.S.A. (where Facebook is headquartered) has a great body of Civil Rights law on the matter of Public Accommodations. Originally these laws were created to prevent racial minorities from being banned from banks, shopping malls, etc. and then used to make sure these places are handicapped accessible. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 begins: "All persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, and privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation." Of course, this originally applied to public space as regarded race, religion and national origin. It was then expanded to include handicap. The idea of Civil Rights should also extend into cyberspace to make sure our 1st Amendment Right to free speech is protected.

It is so important that we understand we can compete with the likes of Facebook, even though it has gained a dominant position, much like Google has also-they are not inviolate like they were in the Broadcast era.
Back in the 20th Century, the central position of mass media was secured via the media licensing processes, and the direct link with the power elite. There are alternatives to both Facebook, and google, and we can recognize this, and even build our own media companies. We have the ability, and the tools to build our own narratives, but it requires a mind-set and intention to do so. Digital Media is still the gates of freedom, and they are still hanging open, it just requires us to understand this and to not be cowed, or frightened into accepting monopolies. This is the difference.

A bit off-topic, but this article made me laugh:

https://www.axios.com/facebook-stops-putting-disputed-flags-on-fake-news-because-it-doesnt-work-1515110861-46227b6c-8949-4c8d-bca8-f5419f8fc2b7.html

Facebook clearly thought they could pioneer the way they identify what they consider to be "fake news" for its readers.

They tried placing "disputed" flags on selected pages in order to validate/test their "fake news" detection algorithms, only to find the results to be counter-intuitive to what they thought would happen - readers clicked on the stories even more! They found this out the hard and expensive way.

Facebook’s wanting to weaken "deeply held beliefs" is very strange. It implies that Facebook has somewhere a large database containing entries of "correct" beliefs to which its customers’ "deeply held beliefs" can be compared.

It is charming the simple faith Zuckerberg has in the ability of computers to mimic human thinking. Yet all these artificial intelligence (read: DECADES OLD statistical techniques) algorithms can do is to note patterns in data, which when fed a new observation classifies it into one of the patterns.

That means some human being somewhere still has to create a list of news stories which have been (without error or controversy) placed into "truth" and "propaganda" bins.

So true. The pushback wrt FB is growing at an increasing rate, and those who are jumping ship are, of course, just those people who "we" would like to welcome onto our raft. Poor analogy, I guess, but FB is such a huge entity that it has become unwieldy and all but impossible, like a large ship, to steer. So I guess I'll still go with the oil tanker versus life raft comparison. The need to generate profit on the major sites is toxic, and the proliferation of gossipy, distracting "clickbait" I see as anathema to humanity's spiritual evolution.

Do "we" want to organize ourselves into a cohesive identity that is a home for all the awakened? I think not - lest there appear another FB Leviathon. Instead, I see the future of "us" as an exponential growth of what now exists - a sort of Federation of websites where we network to share common interests and thinking. And I see Avalon as one of the best examples of this sort of grass-roots co-operation. As long as we can share our philosophies, experiences and ideas, we're in great shape.

Kardashian who?

I tried to buy David's latest book in the big branch of Waterstones in Edinburgh, over Christmas. Was surprised to hear they didn't have it. Out of curiousity I asked if they had his other books available. Nope. I was surprised, but then when I thought about it, it's probably because he's having an impact in waking people up. I think 'they' have left him alone up to now because his public reputation has been 'a lunatic'. After all, the most revered Terry Wogan, sealed his fate all those years ago with the public humiliation on his BBC show. I remember it well and was disgusted at Wogan and his audience. But now the tide is turning. Icke's worldwide tours are sell-outs. He fills Wembley stadium. Some of his predictions have been revealed to be true (Jimmy Saville) (note to my US cousins; Jimmy Saville was a prominent BBC presenter and especially with children's shows. Icke said over 20 years ago that he was a paedophile and provided children to satanists, many of whom are well-known. He was ridiculed for this, but a couple of years ago, the news broke and suddenly the world knew that it was true.) There are other famous names implicated and perhaps this is why they are now trying to silence him, because more people are now listening. Icke may not be right about everything he says and I struggle with accepting some of his information because I don't have enough evidence, but how many of us are right about everything. The important thing is he's causing people to question everything, rather than be brainwashed slaves.
