Interested in others take related to the fast moving changes to retail on the last few years.

My take is that if Amazon is relatively successful with checkout-free grocery stores and adoptable throughout retail world that that would have a huge trickle down effect for a huge portion of a working population. Will the shift of jobs loss equal new jobs created by new technology? Somehow I doubt it.

Will there be some time in the distant future a paradigm shift from machines working for people to people working for machines? That could/ would/ will be one heck of a ironic twist for the history books!

The other glaring result of the technology of an Amazon Checkout-free grocery store will be the level of surveillance as described in news article let alone what is held back from view.

I keep thinking the sci-fi of my youth is unfolding right before my eyes.

I think i would shop in a regular grocery store and pay cash. If nothing more insidious than amazon tracking my buying habits would be enough reason for me to stay clear.

Its already in the works, obviously, grocery is changing too fast. Grow your own if you can. It may be too late.

With this march of technological automation there will be less and less cooperation between people thus more and more isolation. Each a prison unto themselves.

Actually, this type of stuff has been going on for a very long time. Only back then we called it shoplifting.

Good one!

The black hat hacker community will always be one step ahead of the prevailing technology. Always being the exception to the rule.

No doubt at all the world is heading down this slippery slope, actually already here.
People shopping for food turn into devils and the entitled are the worst devils of all.
Think WIC. A government program that has become abused by a certain segment of the USA population.
They are the entitled and by god if you do not kiss their ass through every step of their transaction;
even if they are agitated because they had a bad day, you will be the labeled the hostile.
Enter the robot who has no emotion.

Agreeing with the OP but for another reason.
