James is very good at concise reports on large subjects so as to make them easier to
understand and you can use them as a starting platform to research into whatever the
topic is. I know most on here know this but new people looking in may not. I just
posted this on several threads as I'm cutting down on new threads as I mentioned
before to concentrate on existing ones and let others have a go, though I will still post
threads when the right subject pops up and this should be seen by as many as possible
imo. Others go into more detail but this is essential basic info imo of what is going on....
This was originally a mil/intel project.

We all know that the "Deep Fakes" application that's going viral on the
internet is only a crude toy compared to the technologies the government
-sponsored, defence department-linked researchers have been playing with.
Here's an example from the year 2000 that shows that real-time video fakery
technology has been available to the deep state for decades.

Popular radio show host, Richie Allen, joins the program to discuss the latest
round of YouTube censorship. His channel, along with many other large and
small creators were yanked from the platform. His professional journalist and
balanced approach was not factored into the decision. Regardless of the
objective reporting and professional coverage, his content was yanked with no
recourse or explanation sending a shock wave through the alternative media.
YouTube has recently claimed that "Right Wing" and "Gun Supporters" were
accidentally pulled, yet Allen is neither "right wing" nor a vocal supporter of
guns. Again, pointing to the hypocrisy at YouTube and Google.
We discuss the blanket abuse of power and treatment towards creators as
insignificant. He also gives advice as to what content creators and journalists
could do to protect themselves long term and to stay viable in the long run.
This is an important discussion at a difficult time in history.

Transcript:
It didn’t take long from the birth of the world wide web for the public to start using this new medium to transmit, collect and analyze information in ways never before imagined.
The first message boards and clunky “web 1.0” websites soon gave way to “the blogosphere.” The arrival of social media was the next step in this evolution, allowing for the formation of communities of interest to share information in real time about events happening anywhere on the globe.
But as quickly as communities began to form around these new platforms, governments and militaries were even quicker in recognizing the potential to use this new medium to more effectively spread their own propaganda.
Their goal? To shape public discourse around global events in a way favourable to their standing military and geopolitical objectives.
Their method? The Weaponization of Social Media.
This is The Corbett Report (https://www.corbettreport.com/).
Facebook. Twitter. YouTube. Snapchat. Instagram. Reddit. “Social media” as we know it today barely existed fifteen years ago. Although it provides new ways to interact with people and information from all across the planet virtually instantaneously and virtually for free, we are only now beginning to understand the depths of the problems associated with these new platforms.
More and more of the original developers of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter admit they no longer use social media (http://www.gulf-times.com/story/579755/Why-social-media-bosses-don-t-use-social-media) themselves and actively keep it away from their children, and now they are finally admitting the reason why: social media was designed specifically to take advantage of your psychological weaknesses and keep you addicted to your screen.
SEAN PARKER: If the thought process that went into building these applications–Facebook being the first of them to really understand it–that thought process was all about “How do we consume as much of your time and conscious attention as possible?”
And that means that we need to sort of give you a little dopamine hit every once in a while because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or whatever, and that’s gonna get you to contribute more content and that’s gonna get you more likes and comments.
So it’s a social validation feedback loop. I mean it’s exactly the kind of thing that a that a hacker like myself would come up with, because you’re exploiting a vulnerability in in human psychology.
And I just think that we — the inventors/creators, you know, and it’s me, it’s Mark, it’s Kevin Systrom at Instagram, it’s all of these people — understood this consciously and we did it anyway.
SOURCE: Sean Parker – Facebook Exploits Human Vulnerability (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7jar4KgKxs)
It should be no surprise, then, that in this world of social media addicts and smartphone zombies, the 24/7 newsfeed is taking up a greater and greater share of people’s lives. Our thoughts, our opinions, our knowledge of the world, even our mood are increasingly being influenced or even determined by what we see being posted, tweeted or vlogged.
And the process by which these media shape our opinions is being carefully monitored and analyzed, not by the social media companies themselves, but by the US military.
MARINA PORTNAYA: When the world’s largest social media platform betrays its users, there’s going to be outrage.
ABC HOST: The study to see whether Facebook could influence the emotional state of its users on that news feed.
CNN ANCHOR: It allowed researchers to manipulate almost 700 thousand users news feeds. Some saw more positive news about their friends, others saw more negative.
CNN GUEST: Well I’m not surprised. I mean we’re all kind of lab rat than the big Facebook experiment.
PORTNAYA: But it wasn’t only Facebook’s experiment. IT turns out the psychological study was connected to the US government’s research on social unrest.
MORNING JOE GUEST: This is really kind of creepy.
PORTNAYA: And it gets worse. What you may not know is that the US Department of Defense has reportedly spent roughly $20 million conducting studies aimed at learning how to manipulate online behavior in order to influence opinion. The initiative was launched in 2011 by the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, otherwise known as DARPA. The program is best described as the US media’s effort to become better at detecting and conducting propaganda campaigns via social media. Translation: When anti-government messages gain ground virally, Washington wants to find a way to spread counter opinion.
SOURCE: US military harnesses social media to manipulate online behaviour (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08tWHpNCUto)
The DARPA document that details the Pentagon’s plans for influencing opinions in the social media space is called “Social Media in Strategic Communication (https://www.darpa.mil/program/social-media-in-strategic-communication).” DARPA’s goal, according to their own website (https://www.darpa.mil/program/social-media-in-strategic-communication) is “to develop tools to help identify misinformation or deception campaigns and counter them with truthful information.”
Exactly what tools were developed for this purpose and how they are currently being deployed is unclear, but Rand Walzman, the program’s creator, admitted last year that the project lasted four years, cost $50 million and led to the publication of over 200 papers.
The papers, including “Incorporating Human Cognitive Biases in a Probabilistic Model of Retweeting (https://arxiv.org/abs/1502.00582),” “Structural Properties of Ego Networks (http://Structural%20Properties%20of%20Ego%20Networks),” and “Sentiment Prediction using Collaborative Filtering (http://www.isi.edu/%7Egalstyan/papers/icwsm-CF.pdf)” make the thrust of the program perfectly clear. Social media users are lab rats being carefully scrutinized by government-supported researchers, their tweets and Facebook posts and Instagram pictures being analyzed to determine how information spreads online, and, by implication, how the government and the military can use these social media networks to make their own propaganda “go viral.”
As worrying as this research is, it pales in comparison to the knowledge that governments, militaries and political lobby groups are already employing squadrons of foot soldiers to wage information warfare in the social media battlespace.
AL-JAZEERA ANCHOR: The Pentagon’s got a new plan to counter anti-american messages in cyberspace. It involves buying software that will enable the American military to create and control fake online personas–fake people, essentially–who will appear to have originated from all over the world.
The plan is being undertaken by CENTCOM (US Central Command), and the objective of the online persona management service is to combat enemy propaganda by influencing foreign social media websites. CENTCOM has hired a software development company called “Ntrepid,” and, according to the contract, the California-based company will initially provide 50 user licenses, each of which would be capable of controlling up to 10 fake personas.
US law forbids the use of this type of technology, called “sockpuppets,” against Americans, so all the personas will reportedly be communicating in languages like Arabic Persian and Urdu.
SOURCE: Persona Online Management, Fake Online Personas, Sock Puppets, Astroturfing Bots, Shills (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7uNH2rskWE)
CTV ANCHOR: So is it okay to have the government monitor social media conversations and then to wade in and correct some of those conversations? With more on this, let’s go to technology expert Carmi Levy. He’s on the line from Montreal. Carmi, do you think the government’s monitoring what you and I are saying right now? Is this whole thing getting out of line, or what?
[…]
CARMI LEVY: It opens up a bit of a question. I’d like to call it a Pandora’s box about, you know, what exactly is the government’s aim here, and what do they hope to accomplish with what they find out? And as they accumulate this information online–this data on us–where does that data go?
And so I think as much applaud the government for getting into this area, the optics of it are potentially very big brother-ish. And the government really does need to be a little bit more concrete on what its intentions are and how it intends to achieve them.

4WWL REPORTER: New evidence that government owned computers at the Army Corps of Engineers office here in New Orleans are being used to verbally attack critics of the Corps comes in an affidavit from the former editor-in-chief of nola.com. Jon Donley, who was laid off this past February, tells us via satellite from Texas in late 2006 he started noticing people presenting themselves as ordinary citizens defending the Corps very energetically.
JON DONLEY: What stuck out, though, was the wording of the comments was in many ways mirroring news releases from the Corps of Engineers.
[…]
4WWL REPORTER: These commenters tried to discredit these people and when Rosenthal investigated, she discovered the comments were coming from users at the internet provider address of the Army Corps of Engineers offices here in New Orleans. She blamed the Corps for a strategy of going after critics.
SANDY ROSENTHAL: In the process of trying to obscure the facts of the New Orleans floodings, one of their tactics was just verbal abuse.

NAFTALI BENNETT: Mo’etzet Yesha in conjunction with My Israel has arranged an instruction day for wiki editors. The goal of the day is to teach people how to edit in Wikipedia, which is the number one source of information today in the world.
As a way of example, if someone searches the Gaza flotilla, we want to be there. We want to be the guys who influence what is written there, how it’s written, and to ensure that it’s balanced and Zionist in the nature.

These operations are only the visible and publicly-admitted front of a vast array of military and intelligence programs that are attempting to influence online behaviour, spread government propaganda, and disrupt online communities that arise in opposition to their agenda.
That such programs exist is not a matter of conjecture; it is mundane, established, documented fact.
In 2014, an internal document was leaked from GCHQ, the British equivalent of the NSA. The document, never intended for public release, was entitled “The Art of Deception: Training for a New Generation of Online Covert Operations (https://theintercept.com/document/2014/02/24/art-deception-training-new-generation-online-covert-operations/)” and bluntly stated that “We want to build Cyber Magicians.”
It then goes on to outline the magic “techniques” that must be employed in influence and information operations online, including deception and manipulation techniques like “anchoring,” “priming” and branding propaganda narratives. After presenting a map of social networking technologies that are targeted by these operations, the document then instructs the magicians how to deceive the public through “attention management” and behavioural manipulation.
That governments would turn to these strategies is hardly a shocking development. In fact, the use of government shills to propagate government talking points and disrupt online dissent has been openly advocated on the record by high-ranking government officials for the past decade.
In 2008, Cass Sunstein, a law professor who would go on to become Obama’s Information “Czar,” co-authored a paper entitled “Conspiracy Theories (https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1084585)” in which he wrote that the “best response” to online “conspiracy theories” is what he calls “cognitive infiltration” of groups spreading these ideas.
“Government agents (and their allies) might enter chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine percolating conspiracy theories by raising doubts about their factual premises, causal logic or implications for political action.
In one variant, government agents would openly proclaim, or at least make no effort to conceal, their institutional affiliations. […] In another variant, government officials would participate anonymously or even with false identities.”
It is perhaps particularly ironic that the idea that government agents are actually and admittedly spreading propaganda online under false identities is, to the less-informed members of the population, itself a “conspiracy theory” rather than an established conspiracy fact.
Unsurprisingly, when confronted about his proposal, Sunstein pretended to not remember having written it and then pointedly refused to answer any questions about it.
LUKE RUDKOWSKI: My name is Bill de Burgh from Brooklyn College, and I know you’ve written many articles. But I think the most telling one about you is the 2008 one called “Conspiracy Theories,” where you openly advocated government agents infiltrate activist groups of 9/11 Truth and also stifle dissent online. I was wondering why do you think it’s the government’s job, or why do you think the government should go after family members who have questions and 9/11 responders who are lied to about the air, survivors whose testimony conflicts, and also government whistleblowers that were gagged because they released information that contradicts the official story.
CASS SUNSTEIN: I think it was Ricky who said I’d written hundreds of articles and I remember some and not others. That one I don’t remember very well. I hope I didn’t say that. But whatever was said in that article, my role in government is to oversee federal rule making in a way that is wholly disconnected from the vast majority of my academic writing, including that.
[…]
RUDKOWSKI: I just want to know is it safe to say that you retract saying that conspiracy theories should be banned or taxed for having an opinion online. Is it safe to say that?
SUNSTEIN: I don’t remember the article very well. So I hope I didn’t say either those things.
RUDKOWSKI: But you did and it’s written. Do you retract them?
SUNSTEIN: I’m focused on my job.
SOURCE: Obama Information Czar Cass Sunstein Confronted on Cognitive Infiltration of Conspiracy Groups (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OIiOztc52g)
Now, a decade on from Sunstein’s proposal, we know that military psyops agents, political lobbyists, corporate shills and government propagandists are spending vast sums of money and employing entire armies of keyboard warriors, leaving comments and shaping conversations to change the public’s opinions, influence their behaviour, and even alter their mood.
And they are helped along in this quest by the very same technology that allows the public to connect on a scale never before possible.
Technology is always a double-edged sword, and sometimes it can be dangerous to wield that sword at all. There are ways to identify and neutralize the threat of online trolls and shills, but the phenomenon is not likely to go away any time soon.
Each of us must find our own answer to the question of how best to incorporate these technologies into our life, but the next time you find yourself caught up in an argument with an online persona that may or may not be a genuine human being, it might be better to ask yourself if your efforts are better spent engaging in the argument or just turning off the computer.

I remember the earlier days of the internet, oh how I miss those days! Maybe my memory has faded but it seemed so full of promises of a new world of sharing and communicating discoveries.
At one time I thought there would be no end to the sites to be discovered but that is no longer true, for me at least. If the couple hand fulls of privately held web sites I find enriching were to disappear I am pretty certain there would be no reason to have the internet. I rarely shop online, not on any of the corporate social media outlets, and not a gamer.
On a positive note, I am grateful for sites like PA that truly care to get the word out about what is really taking place beyond the main stream use of the internet.
I still hold out hope for a better tomorrow.

I'm just scanning that interesting GCHQ PDF (https://theintercept.com/document/2014/02/24/art-deception-training-new-generation-online-covert-operations/) right now.
My first impression is that Bob Cialidini's seminal work "Influence (The psychology of persuasion) (http://elibrary.bsu.az/books_400/N_232.pdf)" has been well-read.
It contains many references to phrases and techniques that appear to be lifted almost verbatim from the book, that Cialdini states are used ubiquitously by crooks, con artists, gold-diggers, salesmen of all description, fund-raisers, sycophants and so on. I spotted three almost instantly - "reciprocity", "flattery" and "social compliance".
Well worth a read for those wishing to avoid becoming a patsy for what Cialidini terms the "compliance practitioners" of this world.

Unfortunately the vast potential of the two-way communications dynamics of the internet can be used against us, especially when these corporate ghettos have emerged which take advantage of the herd instinct. I think internet social media can be a force for challenging propaganda and enabling people to exchange big ideas, social policy critiques and political ideologies-communication has always been a two-edged sword. The mass media empires were never going to simply fade away, and because this last 20 years has been a transitional time, where people are still conditioned to be passive receptors of information, as in the broadcast era (1900-1996) there is the capacity to influence significant numbers of people using the 'T.V approach'.
The key to challenging mainstream, deep state and power elite narratives is for the "digital divide" to be steadily bridged, and for people to fully understand the potential of the internet to be the people's creative media, we can still build our own platforms, we can still market blogs and alternative media.
We are not yet locked into a prison in the same way the broadcast paradigm had us all. I am optimistic that the internet is still the gates of freedom being prized open, we just need to fully awaken and understand this. Military and government agencies might be using social media in this way-but they don't have it all their own way by a long shot!

I like your optimism:
"To,fully understand the potential of the Internet...
We can still build our own platforms...etc."
Migration to more independent platforms has commenced. Dr. Jerome Corsi, for example, is diversifying: his Q posts and live streams will be on Gab now. I've been watching more Bitchute and Dtube videos, too.
Wisely, these Internet independent journalists are diversifying. There are too many demanding Freedom (and Internet Bill of Rights) to throw in the towel. Every challenge may be used as a catalyst for positive change and innovative solutions.
Oh, and let me mention the plans that Mike Adams, the Health Ranger from Natural News, has announced regarding preparing to offer alternatives.
Discernment is in order. We have the choice to not participate in the social media mental-emotional consciousness traps. ***Conscious direction of attention is the order of the day.***
I'll remain optimistic, too!

I listened to the latest Corsi vid yesterday and was disappointed but not surprised. He sounded grateful to big brother, youtube, for reinstating him. Almost obsequious. And as I predicted came out and said he'd be more cautious on youtube and do the q code thing on Gab.
this is what they are doing. Very shrewd. Make it look like a complete rampage of alt hosts and get folks upset, then reinstate some to prove youtube is not all bad. The ones that come back will be grateful and more watered down. The result is that we are more controlled just by communication and info being omitted from us. We are being groomed and tamed.
Will alt hosts come to aid alex in some way? He has his own website obviously but you can see it requires $$ as it employs people and has inventory of products. Will alt hosts who are 'allowed' on youtube plug his show to give him a boost? I doubt it, they will be afraid of 'strikes'. If they take Alex down and if the Alt 'community' is a real community we should all leave youtube, but knowing humans to be humans that probably will not happen. Humans by and large - take whatever's on the menu...
I'm open to pleasant surprises but not holding my breath...

Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg is facing intensified
calls to appear in person at investigations into the social network's conduct.
His company has been accused of failing to properly inform users that their
profile information may have been obtained and kept by Cambridge Analytica,
a data firm widely-credited with helping Donald Trump win the 2016 US
presidential election.Facebook said on Friday it had blocked Cambridge Analytica
from Facebook while it investigated claims the London-based firm did not, as
promised, delete data that was allegedly obtained using methods that were in
violation of Facebook's policies.
Both Cambridge Analytica and Facebook deny any wrongdoing.Despite pledging
that in 2018 he would "fix" his company, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has
managed to avoid engaging with the site's growing number of critics - instead
sending lawyers or policy bosses to various committee hearings. The 33-year-old's
recent remarks on some of Facebook's controversies have been communicated in
the relatively safe space of a blog post or video message published on his Facebook page.

CHILLING! Corbett Report: China Banning People From Transit for Bad "Social Credit" Scores
o6Buhli5MYk
corbettreport
Published on Mar 18, 2018
SHOW NOTES: https://www.corbettreport.com/?p=26449
The slow-motion train wreck of "social credit" systems and the "gamification" of society has moved to the next stage. Now the Chinese government is going to start barring people from flying or riding trains if their social credit score is not up to snuff. China may be the test case for these ideas, but they're already being rolled out in other countries. So what are we going to do about it?
From Forbidden Knowledge:
No sooner has Xi Jinping donned the mantle of "Paramount" Leader-for-life and ramped-up Internet censorship than the "social credit" system outlined in 2014 has been unleashed upon the Chinese public, with people now being barred from air travel or riding on trains if their social credit score is found to be lacking, under the "Once untrustworthy, always restricted" policy.
A few months ago, I ran a story about China's new Sesame Credit-powered social rating system, with China's answer to Jeff Bezos, Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba Group Ltd. as one of its architects. The new Chinese social credit system merges individual credit and legal records and social media accounts, claiming to foster "sincerity culture" and "traditional virtues" to improve the honesty a creditworthiness of society as a whole.
If your "citizen ranking" sinks too low, you cannot travel, buy property, send your child to a good school or even eat at a nice restaurant. Every aspect of life factors in. Online shopping habits are traced, with certain purchases dragging down your score, such as video games. The government looks at your bills, your school records, whether you jaywalk and even whether you visit your parents enough. Your social media accounts are checked for any form of dissent. Your score can tank, cutting you off from your life if your enter the wrong numbers while paying a court fee, as Chinese journalist, Liu Hu found out, according to 9News in Australia.
The final version of this scoring system is set to be implemented in 2020. It will relay real-time data reports to government officials, law enforcement and maybe to certain private citizens. Law enforcement is currently testing eye glasses with advanced facial recognition software that pull data from national databases, to instantly recognize criminals or political dissidents and which could conceivably be plugged into this social credit system.
This is not an Orwellian freak show reserved for an increasingly repressive Communist state. A Sesame Credit-type Carrot Rewards app was already been rolled out in Canada, in what James Corbett calls a "merger of behavioral science, gaming and government."

Facebook's Zuckerberg admits mistakes over Cambridge Analytica
2 minutes ago..21/3/18
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has admitted the giant social network "made mistakes"
in his first comments since a data scandal engulfed the company.Political consultancy
Cambridge Analytica is accused of misusing data from 50 million Facebook users.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Mr Zuckerberg admitted a "breach of trust" had occurred.
He also pledged a series of changes, making it far harder for apps to "harvest" user information.
The CEO said: "We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can't then we don't
deserve to serve you.
"I started Facebook, and at the end of the day I'm responsible for what happens on our platform."

Zuck goes Jimmy Hoffa. After three days of being inexplicably missing from the
public arena at a time when Facebook stock was crashing, the company was being
sued, and shareholders were demanding answers, moments ago CEO Mark
Zuckerberg finally broke his silence, and published a statement on Facebook,
updating on the Cambridge Analytica situation, "including the steps we've already
taken and our next steps to address this important issue," ZeroHedge notes.
While we repost the full statement below, the following excerpts are key:
We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can't then we don't deserve
to serve you. I've been working to understand exactly what happened and how to
make sure this doesn't happen again. The good news is that the most important
actions to prevent this from happening again today we have already taken years
ago. But we also made mistakes, there's more to do, and we need to step up and do it.
Translation: Facebook never did audits of what apps have access to user data to
determine if they complied with the TOS. Which is perfectly understandable: after
all Facebook is in the "selling user data" business not "protecting user data"
business.

Facebook scandal 'hit 87 million users'

Facebook has said it now believes up to 87 million people's data was improperly
shared with the political consultancy Cambridge Analytica. The BBC has been told
that about one million of them are UK-based.The overall figure had been previously
quoted as being 50 million by the whistleblower Christopher Wylie.
The details were revealed in a blog by the tech firm's chief technology officer, Mike
Schroepfer. It was published several hours after the US House Commerce
Committee announced that Facebook's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, would testify
before it on 11 April.
The tech firm has faced intense criticism after it emerged that it had known for years
that Cambridge Analytica had harvested data from millions of its users, but had relied
on the London-based firm to self-certify that it had deleted the information.
Channel 4 News has since reported that at least some of the data in question is still in
circulation despite Cambridge Analytica insisting it had destroyed the material.
This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.

Cambridge Analytica: Facebook data-harvest firm to shut

Cambridge Analytica's name has already been taken down from the wall of the London office it occupied
Cambridge Analytica, the political consultancy at the centre of the Facebook data-sharing
scandal, is shutting down. The firm was accused of improperly obtaining personal information
on behalf of political clients.According to Facebook, data about up to 87 million of its members
was harvested by an app and then passed onto the political consultancy.
The social network said its own probe into the matter would continue.
"This doesn't change our commitment and determination to understand exactly what happened
and make sure it doesn't happen again," said a spokesman.
"We are continuing with our investigation in cooperation with the relevant authorities."
Clarence Mitchell, a spokesman for Cambridge Analytica, referred the BBC to a statement on the
firm's website."Over the past several months, Cambridge Analytica has been the subject of
numerous unfounded accusations and, despite the company's efforts to correct the record, has
been vilified for activities that are not only legal, but also widely accepted as a standard component
of online advertising in both the political and commercial arenas," it said.
"Despite Cambridge Analytica's unwavering confidence that its employees have acted ethically and
lawfully... the siege of media coverage has driven away virtually all of the company's customers
and suppliers. "As a result, it has been determined that it is no longer viable to continue operating
the business."
