Hi members, I’ve been quite busy since this tragedy. Still working with students and PTSD issues. It’s been difficult and very sad. None of the kids were crisis actors, I can verify that. I attended an awards luncheon on May 4th in Washington DC to accept an award on behalf of my community and I wanted to post the link. The kids are still pushing forward trying to make a positive change and we truly hope this never happens to anyone else.

Thank you, Susan. Aka Mandala
An important note from Bill, in appreciation, and explanation for new members and guests: Mandala/Susan is a teacher at the school, and knew the students involved.

Hi there, Susan — many thanks for the valuable and interesting update, and also your input on the earlier (first) thread (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?101744-Mass-Shooting-in-Parkland-Florida-High-School-14-Feb-2018) about all this.
I wonder if I could possibly ask a question, and I hope that you might not regard it as insensitive. I suspect I might not be the only person interested in your very helpful clarification.
In your post here (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?101744-Mass-Shooting-in-Parkland-Florida-High-School-14-Feb-2018&p=1210262#post1210262) on the earlier thread, you'd written:
I know Isabelle, good kid. She was scared out of her mind. D. Hogg was possibly trying to make a video diary of what happened. If he didn’t like how it came out, he might have made them do it again. For what means, couldn’t say. Could have been for posterity or selfish reasons. Can’t say. Don’t know his motivation. These kids are smart, they are very competitive. They will possibly try to outdo each other. I don’t know how much of their personal “egos” are involved but I believe we can assume a lot. They also think on the fly and plan to go back and fix mistakes.
'D. Hogg' is of course David Hogg, who quite soon after the event become quite a minor media celebrity, and the center of a lot of controversy and (from some quarters) quite some animosity.
Some have claimed that he was never a student at the school, and is even in his young 20s in age. Can you possibly lay all that to rest by confirming his age in years, how well you did or didn't know him, and that he was indeed a regular student before he was catapulted to being showcased quite widely on national media?
I do thank you for this, and, again, no insensitivity is intended here. Just trying to be a responsible and accurate journalist, as it were. :)

A couple of months ago, Mandala made some earlier comments in Post #55 of the Parkland shooting thread (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?101744-Mass-Shooting-in-Parkland-Florida-High-School-14-Feb-2018&p=1208343&viewfull=1#post1208343), which mention her knowledge of the shooter and of the events and students, but which didn't mention David Hogg in particular.

Hi Bill. So sorry for the lengthy delay. David did attend school in California and then the family moved to Parkland Florida. I know the daughter and mom well but I have had no interaction with David in class or as a student. I can only tell you he attended MSD, was a student, graduated from there and is the correct age for a senior. All my former students who had classes know him well and I see him around in town. They say he’s a descent kid trying to make a difference. He is not an actor and the kids who have spoken out have had major hate mail and death threats. I think a few are having second thoughts about trying to be an activist. There has been a price to be paid. The fallout from this tragedy has been incredible. Many lawsuits, much fingerprinting and loss of jobs. Some teachers have asked for a transfer to another school. The 17 that died, did really die. Families are devastated. I’ve stayed aware to look for anything that could appear the least bit wonky so I could verify it to our forum. So far everything is checking out. Still lots of questions about law enforcement delay, how N. Cruz slipped through the cracks and managed to buy an assault rifle. To be honest, it’s appearing as major incompetence on so many levels by so many people. If anything surfaces, I will report back.

I find it very interesting that an organization in Washington DC is giving out awards for activism in the wake of the shooting.

How did you first hear about this group, the NCHR, if you don't mind me asking? They say on their website they are activists.
