Between 1945 and 1962, the U.S. conducted 210 atmospheric nuclear tests. They used multiple cameras to capture footage of each event – at around 2,400 frames per second.
In the decades since, around 10,000 of these films sat around gathering dust in high-security vaults across the country. The film material itself was slowly decomposing.

For the past six years, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (http://www.llnl.gov/)(LLNL) weapon physicist Greg Spriggs (https://www.llnl.gov/news/physicist-declassifies-rescued-nuclear-test-films) and a team of experts have been working hard to restore the data those films contain. They’ve been hunting down, scanning, reanalyzing, and declassifying the decomposing films.
To date, the team has released nearly 300 videos – all of which can be viewed on their YouTube playlist (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvGO_dWo8VfcmG166wKRy5z-GlJ_OQND5).
In the following video, Spriggs explains the project:

Here’s a chilling recent video release:

Here’s a random selection of particularly eerie videos.
There isn’t any audio, which makes the footage all the more creepy.

This is pretty horrible. This is what humans have evolved to…the total possibility of annihilating all human life.

That’s no hyperbole…

According to the new book (The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner By Whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg, https://www.amazon.com/Doomsday-Machine-Confessions-Nuclear-Planner/dp/1608196704/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1531015355&sr=8-2&keywords=the+doomsday+machine)

the US military has known for decades that any nuclear conflagration will not immediately kill everybody, but those left will regret their alive. Massive starvation will kill the rest in what is called the nuclear winter

Nuclear winter is the severe and prolonged global climatic cooling effect hypothesized[1][2] to occur after widespread firestorms following a nuclear war.[3] The hypothesis is based on the fact that such fires can inject soot into the stratosphere, where it can block some direct sunlight from reaching the surface of the Earth. It is speculated that the resulting cooling would lead to widespread crop failure and famine.[4] In developing computer models of nuclear-winter scenarios, researchers use the conventional bombing of Hamburg, and the Hiroshima firestorm in World War IIas example cases where soot might have been injected into the stratosphere,[5] alongside modern observations of natural, large-area wildfire-firestorms.

What’s criminal is that the people in power do little to stop the proliferation of these weapons of extinction.

It's hardly a sign of evolution--more like repeating a very deadly pattern we seem to have been stuck in since the Fall of Atlantis.
Let's hope we wake up in time this time.
What these horrors do to the Earth herself usually seems to be sidelined, as if humanity isn't part of Her, and vice versa.

I find it sad that these war-mongerers don't realize that when they destroy the Earth and her sentient beings, they are, in part, destroying themselves.
They are very ignorant people considering many of them hold PhDs.
Only my opinion, of course...

2,056 nuclear tests since 1945 - so much for the theory ET will prevent nuclear war - we've probably got too many to be turned off in time, perhaps by design!

It doesn't really follow that since ETs have allowed nuclear testing, they haven't been and may continue to prevent nuclear war.
If they can prevent one bomb from going off, they might well be able to prevent all of them.
According to the whistleblowers who have remarked on this, they do it as much to protect themselves as to protect us.

It makes sense if you consider that it is actually humankind and/or physical earth life that hold value / interest to them - not necessarily the earth itself. A nuclear war would put humans in immediate and imminent danger of being wiped out, testing in remote locations would not. It appears that we have been "created" and "cultured" to explore a balance between advanced technology and spirit - but not with the intent that we would use our advanced technology to wipe ourselves out.

The numbers of tests conducted and how they are conducted tells me that humans have been learning a lot of "interesting" and very advanced things from nuclear testing - it is obviously not about making a "bigger" bomb -- a single device that could literally wipe humans off the map could be easily built by many nations. The tests provide a different type of info ... one I am sure we are not privy to, but that which advances us in overall knowledge and technology in other ways.

Just a thought ... :)

Perhaps, but I hardly think it's been worth the cost to our planet and her lifeforms, or to our reputation as a race to the ETs. Runaway science has very deadly potential, and I question the ethics. It would be a heck of a lot better if they would figure out ways to conduct their experiments without causing so much destruction.

The destruction has been reasonably minor compared to what some natural effects have been on earth (super volcanoes / comets / earthquakes / tsunamis). But at the same time I totally understand your point.

All those testing sites have caused more earthquake potential as well, as Dutchsinse's reports demonstrate clearly.
Added to fracking, drilling and injection wells we are having unprecedented earthquake and volcanic activity.
And of course, the radioactive waste from testing leaves another kind of big mess that needs to be cleaned up.
I don't think we really know all the long lasting damage and trauma those tests could be causing.
Scientists seem to be more than willing to use anyone and anything they please as their guinea pigs, regardless of the consequences.
