New sepsis treatment reduces death by 87 percent

(A thread about Vitamin C is probably in order, and this article should be a good way to kick it off.)

" Sepsis, a body-wide infection that can progress to shock and organ failure, features a grim mortality rate of 30 to 50 percent. In fact, one out of every three patients who die in a hospital bed has sepsis – which claims a shocking 270,000 lives in the United States every year.

Now, a new study reveals that a revolutionary vitamin C-based protocol is slashing sepsis mortality rates – causing some to hail it as a ‘miracle.’

Of course, the extraordinary results come as no surprise to high-dose vitamin C pioneers – such as Dr. Thomas E. Levy – who have long advocated for the use of vitamin C in treating disease!

Vitamin C treatment caused mortality rates to plummet
To conduct the retrospective clinical study, researchers compared outcomes of 47 sepsis patients – treated with a combination of intravenous vitamin C, hydrocortisone and thiamine – with 47 sepsis patients treated with conventional medications.

And the results were astounding!

The progressive vitamin C treatment reduced mortality among the sepsis patients by 87 percent (when compared to patients who had been treated with standard therapy.)

Only four of the 47 patients treated with the progressive therapy died – as opposed to 19 of the 47 conventionally-treated patients.

In addition, not one of the patients in the vitamin C group developed organ failure. Furthermore, all of them were able to be weaned off vasopressors (used to ward off dangerous drops in blood pressure that can strike sepsis patients) more quickly than the conventionally-treated group.

Medical professionals deem the mixture a “miracle juice”
The study, which was published in the journal Chest, involved patients at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA.

The patients received the vitamin therapy under the care of Dr. Paul E. Marik. Dr Marik, chief of pulmonary and critical care at Eastern Virginia Medical School, instituted the protocol after reading about intravenous vitamin C in medical journals.

The simple, non-toxic protocol consists of 1.5 grams of intravenous vitamin C every six hours for four days, 200 mg of thiamine – or B1 – every twelve hours for four days, and 50 mg of hydrocortisone every six hours for seven days, followed by a three-day taper.

Over 700 patients in the United States have been treated with Dr. Marik’s protocol to date – at a cost of about $60 per patient.

Compare this to the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent to treat sepsis patients with standard medications!

In an article in The Virginian-Pilot, an ICU nurse at Sentara Norfolk marvels at the treatment results, saying she had witnessed “one patient after another” experiencing remarkable results. “They’d be at death’s door and, 24 to 48 hours later, they had turned around,” she reported.

Is it any wonder that the mixture is commonly referred to by some on the hospital staff as “miracle juice?”

Sepsis is associated with a raised risk of premature death – even years later
Sepsis is usually triggered by a bacterial infection, followed by an extreme over-reaction by the immune system. The inflammatory responses that are unleashed can cause oxidative damage, widespread and abnormal blood clotting, mitochondrial dysfunction and loss of circulation in major organs.

In severe cases, septic shock – in which blood pressure plummets and organs fail – ensues, and may lead to death. Making sepsis even more dangerous is the fact that the debilitating effects persist for months, with over 40 percent of sepsis patients returning to the hospital within 3 months of being discharged.

The somber fact is: even after recovery from sepsis, the risk of dying can remain elevated for years to come.

Red ALERT: Low vitamin C levels are associated with sepsis
Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, vitamin C seems uniquely qualified to fight sepsis. Vitamin C suppresses inflammation, combats oxidative damage, improves circulation to organs, and boosts the immune system.

Research has also shown that vitamin C and hydrocortisone work together to protect against the capillary leakage that often attends sepsis. Significantly, new evidence has emerged showing that shortfalls in vitamin C can raise the risk of this life-threatening condition.

A 2017 study found that virtually all critically ill sepsis patients had low vitamin C, with 40 percent displaying outright deficiencies. And this was the case despite the fact that the patients were being given dosages of 125 mg of vitamin C per day.

Of course, natural health experts maintain that 125 mg is a woefully inadequate dose – especially for those who are sick. Illness has the effect of depleting vitamin C levels, robbing patients of this important nutrient at a time when they need it most.

Recent research supports the vitamin C protocol
Despite the success rate of intravenous vitamin C, physicians who use it often face a firestorm of criticism from their peers in the mainstream medical community – with some doctors maintaining that the therapy is ‘unproven and ineffective.’

Dr. Marik is philosophical about the negative reaction from the mainstream medical community. “When something is too good to be true, people don’t want to believe it,” he declares.

But, recent peer-reviewed studies and articles are causing some to “change their tune.”

In a 2018 review published in the well-regarded, peer-reviewed Journal of Critical Care, the authors acknowledged that vitamin C could mediate inflammation through its antioxidant activities.

The team reported that emerging evidence supports the administration of vitamin C, in addition to standard therapy, to ease the effects of inflammation and improve blood flow to organs in patients with sepsis and septic shock.

The researchers called for further study to explore the potential of vitamin C therapy. And, they will get their wish.

No less than eight new clinical trials – some using the same three constituents utilized by Dr. Marik – are scheduled to take place in 2018.

As for Dr. Marik, he calls the protocol “safe, cheap and effective.” He also has a more direct way to describe the treatment – “the cure for sepsis.”

Scientific research may just prove him right."

Really interesting. I don't think this protocol will be adopted in the US, simply because they can't make as much money off of it as they can with high priced antibiotic therapy.

If you eat less glucose, you need far less Vit C (https://www.ketogenic-diet-resource.com/vitamin-c-deficiency.html)...

Diet is important, and some substances compete with each other for uptake (Vit C and Glucose specifically)... so you could essentially super charge the OP's advice if desired.

If I asked for intravenous Vitamin C here, it would be refused.... unless I went private, and even then .....
Meanwhile, slow release tablets are better, as they have more chance of ingestion. It’s sickening ‘literally’ that prevention of cure is being thwarted by globalistic media, so no-profit for them means death-sentences for us. Why have such dire negative morals now become so prevalent, and what are the outcomes of such activities if we do nothing, and let these evil-doers annihilate without any retribution?
I will never stop researching to circumnavigate negativity, as I find many of us here on PA are striving for the same outcome.

Dr. Linus Pauling and his research partner pioneered the vitamin C protocol, identifying how important it is for general health, as well as for heart attack and stroke prevention. I have noticed my own blood pressure stabilize using his vitamin C + lysine advice. The vitamin C doesnt have to be intravenous, it can be lyposomal as well as slow release. There is no limit to the amount of vitamin C one can ingest, although there is a limit on lysine, i think from 500-1000mg/day.

This protocol, combined with other health and wellness protocols, such as periodic fasting and anti-inflamatory supplements, can help one live a good long life.

Woefully, indeed!

I've taken perhaps 30 to 40 grams of Vitamin C in one day, when I was feeling ill a few years ago, and could easily imagine taking 100 to 200 grams per day if I had life threatening sepsis. That's 1000 times as much. I basically take up to bowel tolerance, which is typically 5 to 10 grams/day for me, but will vary substantially by individual and by their health each day.

I've been taking substantial (multiple grams/day) amounts of Vitamin C for the last 30 or 40 years, and I avoid hospitals like the plague. So the chances of my getting sepsis in the first place are approximately zero ... but if I did, I'd be taking Vitamin C in various forms as fast as my body could take it.

Suzanne Humphries is a specialist in internal medicine and kidney disease from the US, The lecture is about the role of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) for a variety of functions in the body and that there is research in health care often forgotten, denied and doubted. The Vitamin C is important for children and during pregnancy, in diseases of the cardiovascular, skeletal and skin and in cancer. But should you take extra vitamin C? How much and in what quantity and shape? Are there dangers and problems with this? Can you get kidney stones from vitamin C? We all need vitamin C and it is most famous for its importance in the immune system. It is important as part of the prevention and treatment of a variety of diseases. A common perception is that a rich foods contain enough vitamin C, but is it really? How much do we need? In what form should it be used? Is it good to take in higher doses in different diseases? Can it be combined with conventional medicine? It may be important to you and your health? Dr. Humphries has a historical perspective on vitamin C and its importance in various diseases, but also describes its role in health in general.

My experience with Vitamin C, if you take too much all you get is the sh**s. So if you get them lower the dosage.

Recommended dosages vary :

The recommended daily amount of vitamin C for adult men is 90 milligrams and for adult women is 75 milligrams. That's from Mayo-Clinic.

I take 1000 milligrams.

I usually pour over 1000 mg Vit.C powder in a bottle of water in the morning and take it to work.
It's much better than those sugar sodas and far cheaper.

One question here:
I heard once that large Vit.C intake (in the form of pastilles) would damage the dental enamel.
Is that just fear propaganda?

I would think it would, the acid is what causes tooth decay, if the lozenge is in the mouth for a long time, it's concentration of acid is high.
Drinking water with Vt.c in it would not stay in the mouth long, so no damage.

I am not surprised to hear this Onawah. My aunt did research into biochemical schizophrenia diagnosis back in the 60’s (the mauve factor shows up in urine test strips, when adrenochrome is not eliminated from one’s system). Several family members had the factor, and we all began taking mega doses of vitamin C and niacin. I think that is why I look younger than my age.

Because I take kratom (a natural opiod from a native Thailand plant IIRC) for arthritis, I have the opposite problem. I take roughly 6,000 - 10,000 mgs of liposomal C a day, both for health and to loosen my innards.

I must have had a severe vitamin C deficit, because it took well over a year before excess vitamin C began to show up in my urine.

I haven’t gotten sick in a long time, knock on wood.

This doctor for alternative medicine, with verified success of autism recovery says that Antioxidants like vitamin C are for people with extreme oxidative stress (like those who worked on colonial ships and had poor nutrition, as a mark of over-oxidization). According to him, taking anti-oxidants is like putting water on the fire that is supposed to burn fat and kill bad bacteria. Oxidization is a good thing in the body to get rid of the nasties and the example he keeps bringing up is exercise.

I'm still investigating his claims... leading to the concept of hormesis.

Here's an interesting article about Vitamin C, in which the life span of mice (which make their own Vitamin C) compares to the life spans of mice that have been genetically modified to be unable to make their own Vitamin C, and to the life span of those same genetically modified mice when given supplemental Vitamin C.

Both the normal mice, and the Vitamin C supplemented mice lived 2 or 3 times longer than the genetically modified mice that received just enough Vitamin C to avoid scurvy. The genetically modified mice that received no Vitamin C in their diet died quickly, of scurvy.

Humans are like these genetically modified mice. The gene in most mammals that can produce the protein enzyme needed to make Vitamin C in the body is defective in humans.

This article recommends taking perhaps 500 mg of Vitamin C, several times throughout the day.

Here's the article: The Amazing Health and Substantial Longevity Benefits of Restoring the Grossly Inadequate Levels of Vitamin C in Humans to Normal Mammalian Levels -- An Interview with Bill Sardi – Part 1 By Richard A. Here's an intriguing graph from this article:

http://thepythoniccow.us/Vitamin-C-Sorti-Figure-3.jpg

I keep a bottle of chewable 500 mg Vitamin C tablets, of whatever flavor tastes the best to me at the time, and grab one or two every few hours, throughout the day. I've been consuming several grams of Vitamin C per day, currently about 5 to 10 grams per day, for perhaps the last 20 or 30 years.

After reading this article, you can be dang sure I will continue that habit.

The last time I didn't feel well, a few years back, I increased my dose to perhaps 50 or 80 grams per day, for a couple of days. But that was a while back and I've forgotten the details now.

I never heard of that before! Very interesting.
The wording "Normal Mammalian Levels" actually made me laugh, because that puts us right at the bottom! I never used to believe in such things as reverse-evolution (de-volving?), but the ever increasing amount of diseases and defects in people is really making me start to wonder.

Neutralize the Toxicity of Glyphosate and pesticides
by: Lori Alton
December 14, 2018
https://www.naturalhealth365.com/roundup-toxic-chemicals-2803.html
"(NaturalHealth365) Natural health experts have long warned that exposure to glyphosate, the active ingredient in the weed killer Roundup, could be linked with soaring rates of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
In addition, emerging research shows that glyphosate can, indeed, threaten our defense systems by decreasing levels of glutathione, the body’s premier antioxidant.
However, a natural solution does exist. Researchers report that vitamin C – when given in sufficiently quantities – can help to reverse glutathione depletion, and protect against the dangers of glyphosate.
Editor’s note: For over 20 years, the U.S. has sprayed billions of pounds of glyphosate onto our food supply. This won’t change – any time soon – but, the main point here is we have a way to minimize the risk. It all boils down to the choices we make in life.
Scientists pull no punches: Roundup and other pesticides present a HIGH risk to human health
In a study published in the scientific journal Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology, researchers investigated the effect of glyphosate exposure on the antioxidant system – and evaluated the ability of antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin C and E to mitigate the damage.
The team concluded that glyphosate, as found in in the Monsanto product Roundup, poses a health risk to humans, inducing “significant changes” in cellular antioxidant status by depleting glutathione.
This causes the peroxidation of lipids (meaning: the damaging oxidation of fats) to increase substantially – causing significant antioxidant impairment in epidermal cells.
And, just to be clear: epidermal cells help to protect against the invasion of bacteria and foreign particles, as well as regulating amounts of water released from the body.
The researchers reported that supplementation with vitamin C and E increased levels of glutathione and superoxide dismutase (another key antioxidant) – thereby reducing oxidative damage in the keratin-producing cells of the epidermis.
The team concluded that the vitamins might have “preventive effects” against deleterious skin cell damage caused by glyphosate.
Additional studies show: Vitamin C is effective against other toxic pesticides
Vitamin C’s protective powers extend to other synthetic chemical pesticides as well.
In a study published in Food and Chemical Toxicology, researchers found that 200 mg per kg of body weight of vitamin C – given 30 minutes before exposure – protected mice against oxidative stress induced by imidacloprid, a neonicotinoid insecticide.
Like glyphosate, imidacloprid reduces the disease-fighting activities of glutathione and superoxide dismutase.
The team concluded that vitamin C can protect against harm caused by imidacloprid by decreasing the oxidation of fats and boosting antioxidant defense systems in the liver.
Interestingly, the investigators found that the protective effect of vitamin C was stronger when it was given before administration of imidacloprid – as opposed to being given after exposure had occurred.
In yet another study, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) mitigated the toxicity of fenvalerate – a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide – to fish.
Alert: Glyphosate is linked to endocrine disruption and cancer
Glyphosate, a broad-spectrum, non-selective, systemic herbicide, is widely used on food crops – as well as on residential lawns, gardens and public parks.
And, despite Monsanto’s assurances that the product is “safe,” extensive studies show that glyphosate is associated with a litany of harms.
In a review of research published by the non-profit environmental group Beyond Pesticides, author Terry Shistar, Ph.D., reported that glyphosate and its formulated products (in a word: Roundup) can adversely affect fetal development.
In addition, glyphosate can cause endocrine disruption and damage DNA.
The pesticide has been linked to various cancers – non-Hodgkins lymphoma in particular – and the International Agency for Research on Cancer has officially classified glyphosate as a “probable carcinogen.”
Alarmingly, recent studies reveal that glyphosate destroys beneficial gut bacteria, including Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus. These “friendly” bacteria play an indispensable role in human health, helping to absorb nutrients, produce fatty acids and vitamins, synthesize amino acids, neutralize toxins, boost immunity and prevent infection.
Imbalance in gut bacteria, a condition known as dybiosis, is associated with such serious conditions as diabetes, obesity, autoimmune disease, food allergies and cancer.
Renowned vitamin C pioneer credits high-dose vitamin C with lifesaving protective effects against toxins
Of course, forward-thinking researchers and physicians – including Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr. Linus Pauling and noted physician Dr. Frederick R. Klenner – have long known of the therapeutic abilities of vitamin C.
The late Dr. Klenner, an early (and dedicated) proponent of high-dosage intravenous vitamin C, left behind 27 different medical papers – which he started to create in the 1940’s.
In these documents, Dr. Klenner details the near-miraculous effects of high-dose intravenous vitamin C against an astonishing range of potentially life-threatening conditions – including polio, hepatitis, barbiturate overdose, carbon monoxide poisoning and even venomous snakebite.
As Dr. Klenner stressed again and again: the amount of vitamin C used is the all-important factor. In fact, megadoses of this non-toxic nutrient – in some cases 30 to 50 grams a day – are critical in terms of response.
But, does Dr. Klenner expound on vitamin C’s specific effects against pesticides?
As a matter of fact, he does – and the evidence can be seen in his reporting on the case of two boys who had been accidentally sprayed with pesticide. According to Dr. Klenner’s records, one child received 10g (that’s 10,000 mg) of vitamin C – every eight hours – and was able to return home on the second day.
Unfortunately, the other boy – who displayed a serious chemical burn on his skin – was given only fluids. Tragically, the child died on the fifth day after the incident.
The next step for every health clinic that cares for its patients
According to Dr. Klenner, all emergency rooms should be adequately stocked with supplies of this lifesaving nutrient.
As a matter of fact: cigarette smokers and those exposed to poisonous products like Roundup (in other words: virtually everyone in the modern world) should be taking supplementary vitamin C as a matter of course.
Thankfully, a growing number of natural health clinics are offering high-dose intravenous vitamin C therapy. If you are interested in using high-dose vitamin C to counteract the noxious effects of pesticides – or to treat any other serious health issue – seek guidance from an experienced integrative physician to determine what’s best for you.
To sum up, Monsanto continues to insist its products are ‘safe.’ But, in reality, we all know that synthetic chemicals pose a grave danger to human and environmental health.
But, without a doubt, the papers of Dr. Klenner serve as a blueprint for a plan of recovery from exposure to Roundup and other toxic substances. Hopefully, the powers-that-be will listen. But, if not, we should still take action to protect ourselves.
Eat organic food, avoid the use of toxic chemicals in and around your home and take vitamin C – every day.

My husband had what they call a "triple A" (abdominal aortic aneurysm) rupture at home, that we did not know was there. As fate would have it, a wonderful, devoted, older surgeon happened to be visiting the ER when my husband arrived, and immediately flew into action. I was told that he likely wouldn't make it, or possibly would lose both legs and be on dialysis for life.

But this surgeon was devoted and compelled with saving him. I felt hopeful and reassured when I checked the IV's going into him, and noticed a large bag of Vitamin C. I also observed this surgeon pouring over large, old medical tomes. The surgeon actually slept in the room next to my husband, staying there and available for over 24 hours of crisis. That was 9 years ago now, and my first encounter with the actual use of Vitamin C during crisis.

Here's another article I read today about Vitamin C. Basically, it starts with how chronic stress feeds and may cause cancer due to epinephrine. (rather than cortisol). But at the end of the article it states this:

Is vitamin C the answer?
Next, the researchers validated their results by studying blood epinephrine levels in 83 people with breast cancer.

Sure enough, they found that people with high blood levels of epinephrine also had excess lactate dehydrogenase in cancer tumors — which the researchers had access to through breast cancer biopsy samples.

Also, people who had higher levels of the stress hormone were likelier to have poorer outcomes following treatment when compared with people with lower epinephrine levels.

Next, the scientists tried to see whether or not they could identify a strategy to block epinephrine's ill effects on the system. In laboratory tests on breast cancer cell lines, they analyzed the effects of a few Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs on lactate dehydrogenase production.

The most promising substance that the investigators settled on was actually vitamin C, which blocked actate dehydrogenase production in laboratory experiments. When the investigators tested this approach in mouse models, they obtained the same results: Stressed mice they'd injected with vitamin C experienced tumor shrinkage.

"Taken together, these findings show that vitamin C might be a novel and effective therapeutic agent for targeting cancer in patients undergoing chronic stress," concludes Liu.

At last - promote this far and wide. vitamin C intravenously can stop so much stuff detrimental to health. It can annihilate cancers, block tumour spreads. But why is this not commonly available? Because big pharma can’t patent it as it is NATURAL, so it’s efficacy is deliberately trashed, or made illegal (ie pure cannabis oil, without the ‘high’ factor, can cure most cancers), but no profit for big Pharma....
Time we took back our health freedom and release blocks on natural remedies, since the very early times when herbal remedies worked wonders.
