Hi all,
in the last week or so my gmail Email account has been severely compromisied; can't access it anymore despite help from a PC Doc- any wonder?- I access many controversial websites (like we all do on this forum)-
but Germany is THE land of censorship-
could anyone on this forum please, please recommend an Email account/address that is internationaly recognized, reliable and non-compromisable? (if that's possible)-
here in Germany we only get gmx.net (used to be gmx.de) or Yahoo crap;
please inform; I need help-
many thanks in advance-
Larry :-)

Have a look at this : https://www.startmail.com/en/
I use Ixquick search engine instead of Google & they have a totally private email set -up too. True, you have to pay for it, but what price peace? You can have a free trial first. See what you think. Good luck!

Hi Larry,
take a look at Proton Mail: https://protonmail.com
Automatic Email Security
All emails are secured automatically with end-to-end encryption. This means even Proton Technologies cannot decrypt and read your emails. As a result, your encrypted emails cannot be shared with third parties.
Protect Your Privacy
No personal information is required to create your secure email account. By default, they do not keep any IP logs which can be linked to your anonymous email account. Your privacy comes first.
Free Secure Email
Proton believe email privacy should be available to all. That's why the code is open source and basic ProtonMail accounts are always free. You can support the project by donating or upgrading to a paid account.
Data Security and Neutrality
ProtonMail is incorporated in Switzerland and all their servers are located in Switzerland. This means all user data is protected by strict Swiss privacy laws.
I've been a user for a couple of years now and I find it to be an excellent platform. There are a host of great security features, such as being able to set an auto-destruct should your sent mail not be read in a time-period of your choosing, being able to double pad-lock mail, etc, etc. The lay-out and design of the platform is superb and ease of use.
Check it out, I'm sure you'll be impressed.

I know this is off topic, but I love the way people on this forum help each other.
I can't even believe, would never have thought the day would come, the censorship we are all living with.
Stay well, Larry.

The word "hacker" is not being used in a negative context here. More like "very bright, very very computer savvy."
I think that we are seeing the cyberworld dropping the pretense of "free" email. The server space for 'free' email accounts has to be paid for by someone, which is either us or some large malevolent corporation that siphons data and sells demographic data and/or makes money from advertising.

Basic ProtonMail, which I have, is free Larry.
Maybe process the data people have provided properly, take your time, and I'm sure that what you require has been provided by the good folks who have responded to your request.

Get your encrypted mailbox for free.
Tutanota automatically encrypts all your data on your device. Your mails as well as your contacts stay private. You can easily communicate with any of your friends end-to-end encrypted. Even subject and attachments as well as all your contacts are encrypted. You can find details here (http://tutanota.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/470785).
https://tutanota.com/
I use Tutanota for almost 4 years. It's free for personal use. :)

Another satisfied Protonmail user here. It is a little bit slower but that is because it is encrypted. One can get it for free, but I happily have the paid version.
When you sign up on Gmail, you sign an agreement that they [Google] own all your email, even if you delete it!!! So, if you accountant e-mails you your tax forms, Google can sell that info to someone. If someone is suing you, Google could, theoretically, sell them your private email correspondence and it could be used against you in a court of law because it is property that has been purchased. So, I would never, never, never use a lawyer or accountant or other professional that uses Gmail. (Full disclosure, I, myself, only stopped using it two years ago.)
So congratulations on getting one evil corporation out of your life.

Generally there is little or nothing that can be done to secure your computer if alphabet soup agencies want access.
Since the 90's backdoors have been built into the hardware. Perhaps some surplus military laptops "may" be free of that problem.
Encryption and "private" email options may secure you from advertisers, basic tracking and some basic hacking/snooping.
Same with alt OS software like Linux........it helps but is not a cure-all for privacy concerns.
My new laptop is MUCH slower than my 13 year old system.....likely because it is spending most of its time dealing with 100 different demands on its "attention" to "report" what I'm doing to 100 different agencies and organizations. :P
My GIGABYT connection is also SLOWER than my 5 mb connection from a decade ago.....
I believe there is a very well researched thread on these topics posted earlier this week here on Avalon.

On the recommendation from Richard Dolan recently, I am trying the basic free version of CTemplar email, & it's running just fine for me. :)
