President Trump has lobbed some whoppers during his 19 months in office: Democrats are organizing a caravan of Honduran migrants hoping to enter the United States illegally. US Steel is building six new steel mills. His poll numbers are the highest ever for a Republican president.

If none of those is your favorite, there are nearly 5,000 other lies and misstatements Trump has uttered since becoming president. And then there’s a new one.

With the midterm elections two weeks away, Trump now says the White House is planning a “major tax cut for middle-income people” that he’ll reveal right before the election. Trump told reporters Oct. 22 that he’ll produce a “resolution” calling for a 10% tax cut for middle-income earners.

For those wondering if it really works this way—no, the president can’t roll out a tax cut on short notice like this. There’s no procedure for cutting taxes via presidential resolution. Only Congress can initiate a tax cut (or hike) and Congress is out of session until after the midterms. So it’s impossible for Trump to cut taxes in time to buy your vote, as he seems to wish he could.

Trump mentioned this new tax cut idea in a session with reporters after a Nevada rally on Oct. 20. One can only imagine the urgent questions among Trump’s aides: Does he really mean it? Are we now going to make it look like there’s an actual plan for this? Or will this be a one-time, fire-and-forget Trumpism?

Looks like it’s a keeper. On Sunday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin tried to make it sound like there’s a thorough plan in the works, telling the New York Times, “this is specifically focused on the middle class and not beyond that.” But he didn’t have details on what tax brackets might quality for a reduction, or anything else. But don’t worry, a crack team of panderers is working on it.

Key Congressional Republicans, such as House Speaker Paul Ryan and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, apparently knew nothing about the express tax cut Trump had in mind–even though all tax legislation must originate in the House. But now, they say, oh, yeah, sure, Trump can outline a tax plan Congress can vote on later. So now it seems likely Trump and perhaps some other Republicans will make this part of their closing argument as voters decide whom to vote for.

If this all seems redundant, here’s why. Last year Trump signed a large, $1.5 trillion tax cut, with zero Democratic support, that was supposed to grease the midterm elections as voters everywhere thanked Republicans for all the extra money. Except many voters don’t feel they got any tax cut at all. Instead, they think the bulk of the tax cuts went to businesses and the wealthy, with crumbs left for middle-income families.

Data support that. The Trump tax cuts slashed the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%, which has pushed taxes paid by businesses to record lows. Federal revenue from business taxes in fiscal 2018, which ended in September, plummeted by 31%. Taxes paid by individuals, however, rose by 6.1%.

Corporate profits, meanwhile, are up 15.4% this year. Average incomes are up by just 2.8%. And the annual deficit jumped 17%, to $779 billion, and is probably headed past $1 trillion for fiscal 2019. You can kinda understand why voters are skeptical.

Two weeks before the election, tax cuts that were supposed to clinch the midterms for Republicans instead threaten a Democratic takeover of the House, with more people disapproving than approving. So Trump had the bright idea to try for a redo. Oh, wait—there’s already one redo effort underway—a “second phase” Republican tax-cut plan that passed the House in September, but seems to have no chance of getting the 60 votes needed to pass the Senate.

Trump seems to be trying to convince voters that a theoretical tax cut he lacks the authority to implement will resolve all the things they don’t like about the tax cut Republicans have already passed. Just close your eyes and wish your paycheck were larger. Then cast your vote before you open them.

I most certainly would love to read and check out Rick NewMan's list which he no doubt counted and verified, one by one (truth in reporting).. else where is NewMan's verifiable documentation that proves his statement "nearly 5000 other lies"? Just asking, I would never expect a sensationalist to actually "document" and verify point by point when such a sensationalistic statement is made. Just my two cents, and an observation that sticks out like a sore thumb..

Every time I click on Yahoo there are multiple negative Trump stories up and many are of a partisan nature.

#1 Rick Newman of Yahoo Finance has an article up blasting Trump for being for the rich and supporting trickle down economics.

Rick Newman didn't write a single article on Obama doing more trickle down economics in sheer dollars than Reagan himself.

Every single Fed pick big or small Obama made was to a QE trickle down pusher, which inflated the wealth gap - the 1% loved Obama's support for QE trickle down. If Obama opposed Fed policy he could have simply spoke out against it or not kept picking people pushing trillions of dollars worth of a trickle down policy.


2018 FAKE NEWS AWARD NOMINEE - Rick Newman’ piece called “Stocks did better in Obama’s first year than in Trump’s” for his abysmal data analysis of stock market trends and returns.


How nuts is this guy you can tell he is a stupid democrat, only democrats think nothing is wrong with Obamacare even tho the people cost has gone up - double to triple payments. Rick Newman said it was great and he couldn't figure out why people across the country couldn't pay triple on health care to help the democrats when they get their kick back.

See when Obama was in office he said payments wouldn't change; have your own doctor; low payments.. well that was the biggest lie since he (Obama) was president then Trump took over and this cut into the democrats making millions off of Obamacare and they're mad, Trump cut their bank account off from Obamacare and they're mad. Mr. Newman begins his list with attacking “the rich”. Yes those horrible, people who create businesses, jobs and salaries.

Mr. Newman’s contention is they are so rich they are out of touch. While I would agree there are some in Congress who are out of touch with the “common man”, being rich is not a direct correlation.

But why let that get in the way of some old fashioned class warfare, right?

In the final sentence commenting on this point he states, “Congress may even have gotten richer, overall, thanks to the influx of new money—at a time when America as a whole is getting poorer.”

Prediction: The U.S. economy will plunge under Trump

Rick Newman, a columnist for Yahoo Finance and an apparent expert on financial issues, made a prediction immediately following Trump’s upset win that his presidency would bring gloom to the economy, even surmising that a recession could occur if his economic proposals become reality.


Upon the election of President Donald Trump in 2016, several anti-Trumpers claimed that his presidency would be harmful to the United States economy, but nearly a year after he took office, those predictions are being overwhelmingly debunked.

One such naysayer, Yahoo Finance writer Rick Newman, insisted that economic gloom and doom would follow Trump’s election last November, but he recently had to eat those words.

“There was no Trump recession,” Newman wrote. “Quite the contrary.”

Doublespeak in light of the "lies" hatchet attack article of NewMan:


The columnist admitted that he was wrong about Trump’s impact on the economy, pointing to several indicators that the election has actually had a positive effect.

For example, Newman wrote, economic growth “accelerated modestly” during 2017.

Meanwhile, job growth has “continued to improve steadily.”

.. the biggest financial story of 2017 was the stock market, Newman said, noting that the S&P 500 index was up a “robust” 20 percent for the year.

The recent tax cuts passed by Congress should make “Americans feel increasingly confident about their prospects,” he also contended.

Still seems to me, one should be asking, "let's see those "5000" references Mr NewMan.."

President Trump has lobbed some whoppers during his 19 months in office: Democrats are organizing a caravan of Honduran migrants hoping to enter the United States illegally. US Steel is building six new steel mills. His poll numbers are the highest ever for a Republican president.

If none of those is your favorite, there are nearly 5,000 other lies and misstatements Trump has uttered since becoming president. And then there’s a new one.

With the midterm elections two weeks away, Trump now says the White House is planning a “major tax cut for middle-income people” that he’ll reveal right before the election. Trump told reporters Oct. 22 that he’ll produce a “resolution” calling for a 10% tax cut for middle-income earners.

For those wondering if it really works this way—no, the president can’t roll out a tax cut on short notice like this. There’s no procedure for cutting taxes via presidential resolution. Only Congress can initiate a tax cut (or hike) and Congress is out of session until after the midterms. So it’s impossible for Trump to cut taxes in time to buy your vote, as he seems to wish he could.

Trump mentioned this new tax cut idea in a session with reporters after a Nevada rally on Oct. 20. One can only imagine the urgent questions among Trump’s aides: Does he really mean it? Are we now going to make it look like there’s an actual plan for this? Or will this be a one-time, fire-and-forget Trumpism?

Looks like it’s a keeper. On Sunday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin tried to make it sound like there’s a thorough plan in the works, telling the New York Times, “this is specifically focused on the middle class and not beyond that.” But he didn’t have details on what tax brackets might quality for a reduction, or anything else. But don’t worry, a crack team of panderers is working on it.

Key Congressional Republicans, such as House Speaker Paul Ryan and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, apparently knew nothing about the express tax cut Trump had in mind–even though all tax legislation must originate in the House. But now, they say, oh, yeah, sure, Trump can outline a tax plan Congress can vote on later. So now it seems likely Trump and perhaps some other Republicans will make this part of their closing argument as voters decide whom to vote for.

If this all seems redundant, here’s why. Last year Trump signed a large, $1.5 trillion tax cut, with zero Democratic support, that was supposed to grease the midterm elections as voters everywhere thanked Republicans for all the extra money. Except many voters don’t feel they got any tax cut at all. Instead, they think the bulk of the tax cuts went to businesses and the wealthy, with crumbs left for middle-income families.

Data support that. The Trump tax cuts slashed the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%, which has pushed taxes paid by businesses to record lows. Federal revenue from business taxes in fiscal 2018, which ended in September, plummeted by 31%. Taxes paid by individuals, however, rose by 6.1%.

Corporate profits, meanwhile, are up 15.4% this year. Average incomes are up by just 2.8%. And the annual deficit jumped 17%, to $779 billion, and is probably headed past $1 trillion for fiscal 2019. You can kinda understand why voters are skeptical.

Two weeks before the election, tax cuts that were supposed to clinch the midterms for Republicans instead threaten a Democratic takeover of the House, with more people disapproving than approving. So Trump had the bright idea to try for a redo. Oh, wait—there’s already one redo effort underway—a “second phase” Republican tax-cut plan that passed the House in September, but seems to have no chance of getting the 60 votes needed to pass the Senate.

Trump seems to be trying to convince voters that a theoretical tax cut he lacks the authority to implement will resolve all the things they don’t like about the tax cut Republicans have already passed. Just close your eyes and wish your paycheck were larger. Then cast your vote before you open them.

Well, heaven forfend I should disrespect the forum, Bob. Sorry for the confusion. If you take a minute to calm down and think about the post, it may occur to you that I posted this as a cut&paste to demonstrate that:

1. The tsunami of Trump's lies is beyond the scope of anyone to actually read at a single sitting - so no, please don't waste your time actually trying to read this pile of condemnation. Who in their right mind would attempt such a Herculean task, anyway? And to what end? Trump's supporters would disagree vehemently with every item on the list. Life's too short! None of us has the time to waste on such things. It stands, rather, to offer graphic witness to the impossibility of deciphering his deceit. It's staggering in its sheer amount of content. I consider it a valid response to those who claim they want Newman to list the thousands of lies. They don't really. Especially when the result would be so damning. They know that Newman's right - they just want to throw stones onto the tracks of the argument. The scope of his dishonesty is staggering in its sheer vastness. When I came across the list, my reaction was to inhale sharply in shock and then burst out laughing. It's just such a ludicrously huge indictment of the man's character. Only by posting it as an impenetrable block of text, in my opinion, can the real effect be experienced. To answer your charge, I think it's quite useful, once one understands that the format, the means, suits the purpose. Pretty cool, eh?

2. There are limits to the amount of text that the forum computer can handle - rather than splitting this up into 5 or 6 separate posts to fit it in, I 'went for it' with a single operation. I'm frankly surprised that the system let me do it at one go.

3. Putting in white spaces would take away from the desired effect (see # 1) and I would never be so presumptuous as to expect that you would slog through it, anyway. It's simply impossible. Frankly, I'm hurt that you would think me so lacking in basic editing skills, or so full of animosity that I would expect you to take on the Stygian task of reading through it. Normally, I'm quite assiduous with incorporating white spaces into my posts, as you can see by my previous entries. It, (white space) as you have noted, increases the clarity of the message. In this case, as I have noted, the dense, opaque mass of the message IS the message. As such, I consider it an apt metaphor for Donald Trump's mind.

Some people, such as yourself, are apparently prepared to take umbrage, in any way possible, at something that they disagree with - anything that threatens their ideology. Sometimes they might even pretend to be offended, in order to stifle a perceived opponent's claims. I can't help that. Such folks, in my experience, have some glaring deficiencies in their allotted quotients of humour. I apologize if I have triggered such a response in you. You might want to lighten up a bit. Just sayin'.

President Trump has lobbed some whoppers during his 19 months in office: Democrats are organizing a caravan of Honduran migrants hoping to enter the United States illegally. US Steel is building six new steel mills. His poll numbers are the highest ever for a Republican president.

If none of those is your favorite, there are nearly 5,000 other lies and misstatements Trump has uttered since becoming president. And then there’s a new one.

With the midterm elections two weeks away, Trump now says the White House is planning a “major tax cut for middle-income people” that he’ll reveal right before the election. Trump told reporters Oct. 22 that he’ll produce a “resolution” calling for a 10% tax cut for middle-income earners.

For those wondering if it really works this way—no, the president can’t roll out a tax cut on short notice like this. There’s no procedure for cutting taxes via presidential resolution. Only Congress can initiate a tax cut (or hike) and Congress is out of session until after the midterms. So it’s impossible for Trump to cut taxes in time to buy your vote, as he seems to wish he could.

Trump mentioned this new tax cut idea in a session with reporters after a Nevada rally on Oct. 20. One can only imagine the urgent questions among Trump’s aides: Does he really mean it? Are we now going to make it look like there’s an actual plan for this? Or will this be a one-time, fire-and-forget Trumpism?

Looks like it’s a keeper. On Sunday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin tried to make it sound like there’s a thorough plan in the works, telling the New York Times, “this is specifically focused on the middle class and not beyond that.” But he didn’t have details on what tax brackets might quality for a reduction, or anything else. But don’t worry, a crack team of panderers is working on it.

Key Congressional Republicans, such as House Speaker Paul Ryan and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, apparently knew nothing about the express tax cut Trump had in mind–even though all tax legislation must originate in the House. But now, they say, oh, yeah, sure, Trump can outline a tax plan Congress can vote on later. So now it seems likely Trump and perhaps some other Republicans will make this part of their closing argument as voters decide whom to vote for.

If this all seems redundant, here’s why. Last year Trump signed a large, $1.5 trillion tax cut, with zero Democratic support, that was supposed to grease the midterm elections as voters everywhere thanked Republicans for all the extra money. Except many voters don’t feel they got any tax cut at all. Instead, they think the bulk of the tax cuts went to businesses and the wealthy, with crumbs left for middle-income families.

Data support that. The Trump tax cuts slashed the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%, which has pushed taxes paid by businesses to record lows. Federal revenue from business taxes in fiscal 2018, which ended in September, plummeted by 31%. Taxes paid by individuals, however, rose by 6.1%.

Corporate profits, meanwhile, are up 15.4% this year. Average incomes are up by just 2.8%. And the annual deficit jumped 17%, to $779 billion, and is probably headed past $1 trillion for fiscal 2019. You can kinda understand why voters are skeptical.

Two weeks before the election, tax cuts that were supposed to clinch the midterms for Republicans instead threaten a Democratic takeover of the House, with more people disapproving than approving. So Trump had the bright idea to try for a redo. Oh, wait—there’s already one redo effort underway—a “second phase” Republican tax-cut plan that passed the House in September, but seems to have no chance of getting the 60 votes needed to pass the Senate.

Trump seems to be trying to convince voters that a theoretical tax cut he lacks the authority to implement will resolve all the things they don’t like about the tax cut Republicans have already passed. Just close your eyes and wish your paycheck were larger. Then cast your vote before you open them.

If not, your post is off-topic and rude, attempting to divert the question, Where is NewMan's documentation. Others have noted he hadn't cited references.. My question is a fair question to have answered if anyone can answer what NewMan used. I doubt you have any insights to NewMan's personal research, or do you, pray tell?

But (again) to your desperate point about documentation: who needs "inside information" to verify Newman's claim, when there are literally dozens of news organizations online who regularly publish such compilations? It's everywhere!

Your question may be fair in your mind, but I seriously doubt that you or anyone else would wade through all of the references. It's simply an impossible task; a fool's errand. You can't pose legitimate refutation of someone's claims by demanding documentation, which I have observed is a rather common strategy for Trump supporters, much as he tries to avoid criticism by threatening legal action to shut it down.

Meanwhile, Trump himself is in a fact-free bubble, with no accountability whatsoever. Today he even admitted as much, when he said that he had no proof at all for his claims of an Isis/terrorist component of the 'Caravan' now on its way through Mexico. Will you demand that he provide proof for his 'truths'? Good luck! He just doesn't care!

I don't know about you, but he has left my reality far behind.

President Trump has lobbed some whoppers during his 19 months in office: Democrats are organizing a caravan of Honduran migrants hoping to enter the United States illegally. US Steel is building six new steel mills. His poll numbers are the highest ever for a Republican president.

If none of those is your favorite, there are nearly 5,000 other lies and misstatements Trump has uttered since becoming president. And then there’s a new one.

With the midterm elections two weeks away, Trump now says the White House is planning a “major tax cut for middle-income people” that he’ll reveal right before the election. Trump told reporters Oct. 22 that he’ll produce a “resolution” calling for a 10% tax cut for middle-income earners.

For those wondering if it really works this way—no, the president can’t roll out a tax cut on short notice like this. There’s no procedure for cutting taxes via presidential resolution. Only Congress can initiate a tax cut (or hike) and Congress is out of session until after the midterms. So it’s impossible for Trump to cut taxes in time to buy your vote, as he seems to wish he could.

Trump mentioned this new tax cut idea in a session with reporters after a Nevada rally on Oct. 20. One can only imagine the urgent questions among Trump’s aides: Does he really mean it? Are we now going to make it look like there’s an actual plan for this? Or will this be a one-time, fire-and-forget Trumpism?

Looks like it’s a keeper. On Sunday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin tried to make it sound like there’s a thorough plan in the works, telling the New York Times, “this is specifically focused on the middle class and not beyond that.” But he didn’t have details on what tax brackets might quality for a reduction, or anything else. But don’t worry, a crack team of panderers is working on it.

Key Congressional Republicans, such as House Speaker Paul Ryan and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, apparently knew nothing about the express tax cut Trump had in mind–even though all tax legislation must originate in the House. But now, they say, oh, yeah, sure, Trump can outline a tax plan Congress can vote on later. So now it seems likely Trump and perhaps some other Republicans will make this part of their closing argument as voters decide whom to vote for.

If this all seems redundant, here’s why. Last year Trump signed a large, $1.5 trillion tax cut, with zero Democratic support, that was supposed to grease the midterm elections as voters everywhere thanked Republicans for all the extra money. Except many voters don’t feel they got any tax cut at all. Instead, they think the bulk of the tax cuts went to businesses and the wealthy, with crumbs left for middle-income families.

Data support that. The Trump tax cuts slashed the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%, which has pushed taxes paid by businesses to record lows. Federal revenue from business taxes in fiscal 2018, which ended in September, plummeted by 31%. Taxes paid by individuals, however, rose by 6.1%.

Corporate profits, meanwhile, are up 15.4% this year. Average incomes are up by just 2.8%. And the annual deficit jumped 17%, to $779 billion, and is probably headed past $1 trillion for fiscal 2019. You can kinda understand why voters are skeptical.

Two weeks before the election, tax cuts that were supposed to clinch the midterms for Republicans instead threaten a Democratic takeover of the House, with more people disapproving than approving. So Trump had the bright idea to try for a redo. Oh, wait—there’s already one redo effort underway—a “second phase” Republican tax-cut plan that passed the House in September, but seems to have no chance of getting the 60 votes needed to pass the Senate.

Trump seems to be trying to convince voters that a theoretical tax cut he lacks the authority to implement will resolve all the things they don’t like about the tax cut Republicans have already passed. Just close your eyes and wish your paycheck were larger. Then cast your vote before you open them.

Having asked, a couple of people have pointed out to me that there are a couple of reasonable comments in this thread ... comments that make legitimate criticisms of other comments on this thread.

In other words, from my perspective, this thread started out as a cafeteria food fight, from the very title "This might be Trump’s boldest lie yet", and seems to me to be beyond redemption, notwithstanding a couple of legitimate observations criticizing the contents or formatting of earlier posts on this thread.

If there is something said here that actually deserves a fair hearing, then it probably needs to be stated in a more level headed context, not in the middle of the school cafeteria as the food flies past one's head.

I would just ask that anyone reading the thread actually reads my posts and tries to comprehend them. And that would include you, too, Paul. As for the "legitimate" complaints about format, I have addressed those, in my opinion. The concept of "metaphor" is beyond you? Geez - I was just tryin' ta give the joint a little class.

So, it looks yet another thread that pointed to obvious and blatant Trump misbehaviour has become mired in ideological illogicality and obtuse thinking. I think it started out as a valiant effort at pointing out the truth, but the Trump contingent will not allow it a fair and unbiased chance. We get censorship for improper thinking, however well expressed, when the Trumpers pile on.

Well ... you finally said one word that I agree with, Fellow Aspirant: "shame".

Most often in cases such as this thread, I'd consider a thread split, in an effort to amputate the limb with the gangrene, perhaps into a closed thread, for the record, in hopes that the remaining body could continue with some degree of health.

So far most of those who have passed recommendations to me have observed that one or another part of this thread held some value and was worth keeping alive.

However there is no agreement on which are those parts, and I for one cannot find any significant such part.

I will confess to being more annoyed with your posts, Fellow Aspirant, and if this were on a thread that had material of ongoing and substantive value, in my view, I'd endeavor to rehabilitate what I could of the thread, absent your posts and replies thereto.

My point is not that I know, or even am claiming, that anyone here is deliberately a troll. I seldom if ever know the deliberate intentions of anyone who posts on this forum.

When a thread has a substantial portion of that, I work to nurture that.

When it has little of that, and almost the only sensible comments that I see are (sensibly enough) criticizing (very real) flaws in earlier posted content ... then I see little to preserve.
