This is a fine little story. It communicates the essence of what is at the core of much of the ancient wisdom.

Yet I wonder if that ancient wisdom is really complete. It seems to teach a certain amount of resignation. It seems to say that the ultimate power lies beyond our grasp. I wonder if those who handed us that wisdom did not know, or did not want us to know, the entire truth.

What if the "Great Spirit" is really a part of each and every one of us? What if, when it really comes down to it, each being's future is really a matter of its own choices and decisions? What if there was a way that would enable each of us to take total control over our destiny? What if the ones who gave us this ancient wisdom had not discovered this truth yet? And what if someone here on earth, in the very recent past, had discovered it?

The ancient teachings are valuable. But perhaps there is more to learn!
