Dear Avalonians,

I would like to report that yesterday at lunch time an iron Ore mine waste Dam with capacity of 1 million cubic meters of mine waste broke off and a series of waves of mud that invaded land and is moving towards a river. Four hundred people are missing. The mud buried houses, districts, people on its way.

Three years ago, another iron ore mine waste Dam with capacity of 50 million cubic meters broke off killing 19 people, buried an entire distric called Bento Ribeiro in the MInas Gerais State on SouthEast region of Brazil. All the mud moved 650km towards the Atlantic Ocean destroying an entire river called Doce River. Nobody was indicted, the company responsible did not payed any compensation to the families, no one was jailed here.
NOw who is responsible, the companies responsible for this ambiental crime is VALE (ex- public company that was privatized), in conjunction with BHP BILLINGTON (an Australian company) and SAMARCO.

How can avalonians help since our government do nothing. Spread the news and Divest money away from this companies that are listed in the stock market in USA and Brazil. Sell all the assets and never ever put money back in them.

See below a GIF animation with the photo of before and after the Brake off of the DAM.

Many many more links. This seems to be a neglection of duty yet again = use up locality - who cares attitude.
Disgraceful situation - who profited? These folk should be prosecuted, and any other imminencies due to carelessness in abandoning work sites.

Just correcting information, the iron ore mine waste Dam that broke off had a capacity of 13 million cubic meters. The mud of mine waste is said to be flowing towards an Hydoreletric DAm, down the river Paraopeba. It is expected though that it will reach the São Francisco River that flows through several Northeast States of Brazil. The mud contains silica and ammonia and it is abrasive, so there is no way people can survive long inside this mud.
ANother correction is the name of the distric that was erased from the map three years ago, it was called Bento Rodrigues in Minas Gerais State.
Take a look at this video ( at the 2:13´minute of the video) someone that scaped filmed the waves of thick mud that came down.
Brazil has got 24.000 Dams (790 mine waste Dams and the rest is water Dams)and 40% of them was not even authorized to be built.

24,000 to be evacuated from Brazilian town hit by dam collapse

BHP and Vale reach settlement with Brazilian authorities over Samarco dam disaster

https://www.leadersleague.com/en/news/bhp-and-vale-reach-settlement-with-brazilian-authorities-over-samarco-dam-disaster

This settlement is in regards to the 2015 dam disaster. I wonder how much of those fines actually get to the people that were injured, lost their homes or had family members die.

I find it so interesting that many will feel that they paid for their mistakes by giving the government a large amount of money, but where does that money go??? It seems more like an embezzlement payoff to me..give us a large amount of money and business can continue as usual, and it looks like it did judging my the repeat of the incident.

This video is not from the DAm in Brumadinho district, This Dam is not from the break off of three years ago, this video is from The SinoP Dam (another DAM.

None of the fines had been paid till this day, they started paying the first of 59 stallments of just one of the fines issued.

And 24.000 people were evacuated because there is a water dam that was hold in place by the DAm that broke off that was in risk of collapsing, but acording to our journalists there is a report that of the 6 DAms that exist in that area, 5 Dams were in risk of collapse. ANd in my point of view, because of the legislation in place for mining companies, if the legislagion does not change, other DAms will collapse, that´s for sure.

I would like to share the video of the collapse of the Dam that was broadcasted yesterday (01/02/2019) on Television. This is the real video of this collapse. Please note that the people in the car that appeared trying to flee the sea of mud mine waste survived to tell their story.
