Sky News understands increased numbers of British Transport Police officers are being deployed at transport hubs in the London area amid continuing fears of a New Year terrorist attack.

Sky News understands increased numbers of British Transport Police officers are being deployed at transport hubs in the London area amid continuing fears of a New Year terrorist attack.

Sky sources have indicated members of the emergency services have recently been briefed about how to respond to a Mumbai-style attack on the capital.

The UK's terror threat level remains at its second highest level - severe - meaning an attack is highly likely.

Sky's security editor Sam Kiley said transport police are being told they have to cancel days off tomorrow and there will be a heavy presence across the capital and as far as Luton and Heathrow.

He added that no change is being made to the current terror threat level - the highest level is critical.

Oh here we go again more scaremongering (not you irishspirt - and thanks for the thread) and whats with these threat level names, sever - critical, whats the lowest then.... imminent? I can remember a time when it was simply Green, Amber, Red.
It seems British Intellegince must have something like the robot from the 60's show 'Lost In Space' (for those old enough to remember) shouting 'Danger.. Danger...!' used as a warning device.
We've had the shoe bomber, then the underpants bomber. So whats next.... the thermal vest bomber?
Is it me just thinking this, or is this whole 'The War Against Terrorism' TWAT turning into a complete farce. Oh when will the people wake up.

agreed! They tell us the they know that an attack is coming, but they do not know who or whats behind it? Give me a break! I think that we all know they are behind it.

ANOVER, Md. - ABC2News.com has learned that 6 people were treated for injuries after an explosion at the Maryland Department of Transportation Headquarters in Anne Arundel County. Sources also say it may have been an improvised explosive device.

The suspicious substance that was discovered in Lewis Hall yesterday was removed from that building Wednesday night around 11 p.m. according to Georgia Southern University officials.

More than 40 employees were inside Lewis Hall Wednesday morning when the Office of Public Safety received reports of a "white powdered" substance in a package that was received at the building Tuesday night.

All employees were allowed to return home last night.

Due to inclement weather, however, the crew that removed the substance from the building was not able to return to Atlanta for further testing last night. According to the statement, tests on the substance will be conducted today.
