Not sure this been covered...

This is proving to be the worst Cyclone in Africa history... 0nly now seeping through on mainstream... Millions displaced.

As Mozambique counts the cost of Cyclone Idai, the BBC's Africa editor Fergal Keane joined a helicopter flight over some of the worst-affected areas.

The pilot pointed towards the east across the expanse of brown water. "We are 15 miles from the sea," he said, "but it feels as if we are right over it." He was right. Below us, farmland that had been home to thousands of people had disappeared.

After days of rain, the River Pungwe - which meets the sea at Beira - broke its banks and flooded the surrounding countryside.

A few miles further on we saw the first groups of people. They were clustered on a narrow spit of higher ground, several hundred survivors of Cyclone Idai waiting for rescue.

Their homes were inundated with water. Even from the air it was clear they had salvaged very little.

Yes this seems to have happened on the same day as the New Zealand, Christchurch mosque shooting while this devastating disaster in Mozambique so typically for our very concerned and humanitarian journalism received little media coverage the amount of devastation and death toll death toll are incomparably higher.

Not sure I’m quite irrational but it occurred to me that perhaps, the people of New Zealand and Australia who are now mourning their humanitarian accident could give hands to people of Mozambique.
When struck with loss and grief it often helps the most to help someone else in need. Save couple of lives for each that were lost.
Build few homes, send couple kids to school. When they grow up there’ll be friendship between you and them.

I know I’m naive but someone could suggest it to the people of New Zealand so they would refocus on the meaning of Life and Rebirth.
Grief ( and calamity) get only worse if unassisted.

Self focus and arguments are not the best healing methodology.

It’s very symbolical that it occurred on the same day.

I hope someone (out there) can hear me

The death toll from a devastating cyclone that struck Zimbabwe and neighboring Mozambique a week ago has spiraled to 732, and is expected to rise even further as hundreds remain missing.

Survivors are struggling to deal with the aftermath of the huge disaster, with an estimated 1 million people affected in Mozambique alone. Tens of thousands have sought refuge in emergency shelters after hurricane-force winds of up to 200kph and heavy flooding forced them from their homes.

The UN has repeated calls for emergency support to help aid agencies cope with the immediate impact of the disaster, while the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies warned that cases of cholera have been reported in Beira, Mozambique.

The storm brought intense rainfall and heavy flooding which submerged whole villages and washed away huge swathes of agricultural land.
