From ExplorersWeb (https://explorersweb.com/arctic-hare-travels-a-record-388km):
Arctic Hare Travels A Record 388 km (241 miles)
As satellite tracking has become more common, we’ve learned more about the impressive long-distance treks of supposedly non-migratory creatures.
Two years ago, we reported on an arctic fox (https://explorersweb.com/the-longest-unsupported-polar-trek/) that wandered 3,500km from Norway to Canada over the Arctic Ocean ice. Now an arctic hare, normally a stationary creature, has hopped almost 400km in 49 days. It’s the longest journey of any hare or rabbit on record.

'Fun Fact: Pufferfish release a toxin when they puff out that is meant to impair the attacker, so they can safely escape. Ironically, this doesn’t work on dolphins in the same way.. it actually gets them high. So they purposely inflate them and pass them around to their dolphin friends for fun.'

'This Bird Looks Like A Fluffy Little Dragon
If you are a fan of fantasy movies, then there must have been so many times when you wished that the mystical animals in them actually existed in real life. Now wouldn’t that have been awesome? Luckily for us, the great eared nightjars appear to be creatures that came right out of a fantasy movie and they are very much real.
The great eared nightjar is a bird found in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. These birds are nocturnal and roam through the forest using the darkness as a cover. One thing that makes them unique is the fact that they prepare their nests on the forest floor, allowing their babies to be well-camouflaged due to all the dried leaves. When focusing on their appearance, these birds are dissimilar to other birds.
he great eared nightjar looks like a fluffy little dragon or a creature from a Harry Potter movie. These birds look absolutely breathtaking and are capable of bringing the fantasy world we love, to life. Although there are other species of nightjar in the world, they are not as unique as the great eared ones that are similar to a little dragon in appearance. It is safe to say that they are one of a kind.
Their brown hue enables them to blend with nature in perfect harmony and their beady eyes add to their adorableness. If someone ever claims to have seen a dragon flying in the sky, we should not dismiss their claim. There is always the possibility that it could have been a great eared nightjar roaming around spreading its magic in the human world. Don’t forget to share this story with your family and friends and make them aware of this mesmerizing bird.'

In the two hundred million years since the crocodile first appeared on Earth, it has never ceased to fascinate and to frighten. For certain peoples in Mali and Chad, the reptile is still sacred. Alongside the Dogons in Mali and the Bideyet nomads in Chad, we are the privileged witness of their relationship with the crocodile, their proximity can sometimes be disturbing, but always fascinating!

Hi Gini. Wow this seems nuts. At first I was all nah it’s just because they feed them. Then my day said “maybe look deeper at people”. Interesting, and cool. Rings a bell, I was always friendly to the black bears (Canada) that I’ve met. Never had a confrontation, and had some good encounters.
I love this thread/Item, wait on it all the time. Thank you for your post. Cheers.
Here is my hopefully well-timed contribution to this thread, sent to me by my southern belle friendlady, who has chickens and loves them. Too dearly, but that is just my opinion.
I think it’s in here, this just got tabled between us since a year or so and haven’t watched it through again, that battery hens are included. Sad, to me, but I think worth sharing that part too. The rest of it is easier on the heart, and worth seeing IMO.
Hearty greeting, all animal lovers!

I hope it is not the case. I don’t like being cynical, but I really do not like zoos.
Something is wrong with that lion’s behaviour, like maybe they dosed him with Molly. I was at a party once where several people took it, and their smiles and their loveyness were painful to observe.

The Armadillo girdled lizard (Ouroborus cataphractus), the tiny dragon of the desert.
Also known as the Armadillo spiny-tailed lizard or the Golden-armadillo lizard, this species is endemic to desert areas along the western coast of South Africa.
This reptile is light brown to dark brown in color and has armor-like spiny scales covering the neck, tail, body, and limbs, but has a soft, vulnerable yellow underside.
When feeling threatened or frightened, the lizard curls into a ball and takes its tail in its mouth.
In this formation, it is protected by the thick squarish scales along its back and the spines on its tail.
It obtains its common name from this particular behavior which bears a striking resemblance to a frightened mammalian armadillo.
This defense mechanism also allows the lizard to spend most of its time basking in the South African sun.

Amazing - like a condo development!
'The Sociable weaver (Philetairus socius) is a species of bird in the weaver family found across South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. This species construct large compound community nests that resemble huts, complete with a sloping thatched-grass roof that sheds rain. These nests are the world’s largest and most populated tree houses, with some weighing up to a ton or more and measuring up to 20 feet wide and 10 feet tall.
Built around large and sturdy structures like acacia trees or sometimes even telephone poles, the nests provide shelter from direct sunshine, rain, drought, and cold. They are large enough to house over a hundred pairs of birds, consisting of several generations at a time. Each breeding pairs tends to its own compartment with its private entrance and line the interior with soft downy plant material. These entrances are packed closely together and when seen from below, the communal nest has a honeycomb appearance. These birds are constantly making home improvements, adding new nesting chambers, and some nests have remained occupied for over a century!'

It's hard to resist a moving ball. I walk across the local park to get to town, people kick balls it makes that iconic sound that's forever wired in the brain... a quick look to see if the ball's gone astray for them and is coming my way to kick it back to them. Yes that's right, this post is about how amazing humans are at playing football, and that we are football machines. Right up until the elephant bursts in and steals the show

Look to the octopus to understand how aliens might think--Octopuses are incredibly smart, yet the majority of their neurons exist in their arms and suckers, and not in their brain, making them as close to alien intelligence as we can find on Earth. So I thought I'd post this here and ask if any other members know anything about what might be going on here ...
My cat has recently had several interactions with a fox that must live in the area - keep in mind this is very rural Canada, this isn't a city fox, and foxes in Canada are fairly large, compared to say one that might live in the UK.
My cat, while seemingly not too friendly with dogs, has no fear of this fox. Mind you my cat is large, ~17lbs and not fat, just a big cat. Last evening the cat was in the backyard, sitting out on the bricks, and within 3 feet of him was this big fluffy golden fox. So, I'm trying to read animal body language to figure out what was going on ...
The cat didn't appear too stressed at all, no arched back, no puffy tail, but the fox took on what I read as a defensive, submissive response, with head down low, back arched tall and tail straight down, trying to not make much direct eye contact with the cat.
Cat then tried to move in closer, no hissing or anything - one of them was making low grunting / growling noises, but I am unsure which one, I think it was the fox, but not 100% sure. The fox then slowly tried to creep away, while watching the cat carefully, and the then cat went into stalking mode - down low, creeping, sneaking, like he was stalking prey. This went on until they went across the neighbours property, where the fox finally turned toward the cat and started barking, with the cat still in slow pursuit.
After watching this for many minutes, I finally wandered across the neighbours yard in my pajamas and got my cat, who seemed quite relaxed, turned toward me when he saw me coming, and let me just pick him up and carry him back to the house.
I'm trying to figure out what the heck my cat was doing ... he is a very avid hunter, and has a defined territory, one which the fox did encroach on, yet my cat wasn't aggressive to the fox at all ... and nor was the fox aggressive toward my cat. I am wondering if my cat was trying to befriend the fox (is that normal)? "Hunt" it, lol? chase it away (defending his territory)?
This interaction has been witnessed twice now, but the first time the fox was more agitated, and was doing a lot of barking / screaming, but the cat was unfazed then as well and also pursued the fox until it was far out of the yard, but then the cat came back right away after the fox was gone.
My first idea was that the cat was protecting his "hunting grounds" as fox and cats hunt a lot of the same prey, but the lack of aggression toward the fox, made me rethink that. If anyone has any input or ideas what my cat was trying to do here, I'd like to hear it.
I wish I had some video of it ... next time. ;)

I would say the cat was probably letting the fox know that, just because he wasn't being aggressive (he probably didn't actually want to tangle with the fox), that didn't mean he was going to let the fox get off easy for encroaching into his territory...and maybe next time he would be more aggressive.

Magpies mourning a dead friend... I did once see this, a magpie had been killed on a busy roundabout that I was driving across and two of its friends were hopping around it whilst trying not to get run over themselves.
Magpies are highly intelligent creatures, as are all corvids. They have such a sense of fun too - I once saw a large group of magpies and crows at the top of a very steep bank. There was a strong wind and they flew into the updraft that swept them up high into the air. They then landed and did it again and again.

Hardly any other species of bird has preoccupied mankind quite as much as corvids. They are exceptionally curious, teachable and intelligent birds. Ravens are the only birds that not only use tools, but also make them themselves.
Many live in close, social structures and remain with one partner throughout their lives. This HD production presents many new and fascinating insights into the world of corvids: Alpine choughs in the winter world of the high mountains, rook colonies in towns, or the small, intelligent jackdaw, jays, hooded crows and of course, the king of the corvids, the northern raven. The raven is not just the world's largest songbird, but increasingly continues to surprise science due to its extraordinary intelligence."

"Because of the changes in the "movie" industry, the decision was made to pull back a bit and make this available on Youtube. That being the case, the original 2 hour + movie was too long for that format so it was broken down into 2 shorter versions with a few "out-takes." The Crystal Cove edition is a slightly longer version that focuses more on Rick's personal relationships with both the raven couples, and the kids they raise each year at this pristine beachfront California State Park. Shot on location in Newport Beach, California."

I think fireflies are definitely magical, and here's why:
I used to know someone named Angelique who lived in my area and was in my women's group, though I've lost touch with her now.
She told me about a friend of hers who was a kind of Fairy Whisperer.
Her friend invited a circle of women to come to her land one evening, and she took them outside to a special place.
She told them that the fairies had promised to create a display that evening, and had asked her to bring some friends to spectate.
Soon the fireflies began to appear, and then from behind a tree, a perfect line of fireflies created a circle in the air near the women, and then flew back the way they had come and dispersed. I like to imagine that each firefly had a fairy on its back, directing it to help form the perfect circle with its fellow fireflies. 🧚♀️🧚🧚♂️

"This is the story about Gerda the Cheetah, who is part of the Messi The Puma family.
The Alexander and Maria Dmitriev wanted to adopt a Cheetah, but this was not easy, they searched all over Russia, but could not find one, after awhile, anyone who was connected with big cats knew about the couples search for one.
Just when they ready to give up looking, the Sochi Zoo in Russia, approached the couple, looking to sell a healthy 7 year old female cheetah, which they could no longer afford to keep, but the price tag was above all expectations.
For 2 weeks they tormented over the decision, until Alexsandr decided to fly to the zoo to see the cheetah in person to help decide.
She turned out to be a very affectionate big cat, she allowed Aleksandr to do an examination of her, and during that time she purred and licked his hands, and he fell in love instantly.
After seeing her in person, that was it, from that moment on it was all about how can they raise the money.
The couple put up part of their property for sale and borrowed some money from a friend, but finally they had enough.
Soon after, Gerda arrived at her new home, and the cat immediately felt at home and the couple felt the same.
Gerda may have a fierce appearance of a wild animal, but just like Messi, is loved and has become part of the family.
Thanks for watching."

"Stevie the pangolin was rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. When he was brought to the Johannesburg Wildlife Vet Hospital, he met Dr. Kelsey Skinner and accepted her as his new mom. Kelsey fed him bottles, even burped him, and took him for walks to find termite mounds. On the way, Stevie rode on her back and stopped to play with his favorite rock. Now Stevie has been released back to the wild to live on his own, but Kelsey will always be grateful for her time with Stevie.
Special thanks to Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital & African Pangolin Working Group for all the wonderful work they do. I thought of putting this in news or up at the ranch, but this seems a better place. Maybe this whale behavior represents the start of a larger pattern against humans. Killer whales are attacking sailboats off the coast of Europe. The man speaking in the video said they were taking bites out of his rudder. He also said it's their ocean and we're the guests.
npr (https://www.npr.org/2022/08/20/1117993583/orcas-attacks-spain-portugal-killer-whales)
Ester Kristine Storkson was asleep on her father's small yacht earlier this month, sailing off the coast of France, when she was violently awakened.
Scrambling on deck, she spotted several orcas, or killer whales, surrounding them. The steering wheel swung wildly. At one point, the 37-foot sailboat was pushed through 180 degrees, heading it in the opposite direction.
They were "ramming the boat," Storkson says. "They [hit] us repeatedly ... giving us the impression that it was a coordinated attack."
"I told my dad, 'I'm not thinking clearly, so you need to think for me,'" the 27-year-old Norwegian medical student says. "Thankfully, he is a very calm and centered person, and made me feel safe by gently talking about the situation."

Cambrian invertebrate diversity is wide-ranging and well noted, and further discoveries and descriptions continue to reveal more unusual animals across the world. One of these animals, recently described is Balhuticaris voltae, described just this year, which is one of the largest animals known both from its group, location, and time period, and is also highly unusual in appearance. I hope you enjoy.”

So sad - reminds me of the tale of Greyfriars Bobby, only more tragic. Sure hope they found each other again in another "place".
'A man d.i.e.d leaving his dog behind...
his son looked for the dog but couldn't find him.
The dog is missing...
A few days later, the cemetery administration informs the son that a dog is digging a hole on his father's grave! The son went to the cemetery and there saw his father dog next to his grave and took him home,
Two days later the dog ran away again and so it was several weeks before the son had to leave the dog in his grave. He came every day to bring him food and water, the dog refused to eat and would not let anyone near the grave. The dog lived another week before d.y.i.n.g on its owner's grave...
I wonder what kind of person is capable of loving as unconditionally as this dog!'

New footage showing a giant, peculiar-looking tentacled sea creature floating languidly in the depths of the Pacific Ocean has left researchers questioning if what they’re seeing is a new species. This team of scientists spotted the strange animal while on board the E/V Nautilus, a research vessel used by the Ocean Exploration Trust — a nonprofit organization conducting deep-sea research.

The Hundredth Cockatiel Effect
Sydney residents in cultural evolution war with bin-raiding cockatoos
Sulphur-crested cockatoos are defying human efforts to keep them out of bins by copying each other’s tricks, but more effective strategies to thwart them are passed on between humans too
https://www.newscientist.com/article/2336803-sydney-residents-in-cultural-evolution-war-with-bin-raiding-cockatoos/
yfVpk-ZdJCI
Residents of Sydney, Australia, are caught in a battle of wits with cockatoos, as they try to stop the crafty birds raiding their rubbish bins for food.
As fast as they come up with new ways to stop the sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita) from opening the bins, the birds are working out ways to defeat them. It is a classic example of an arms race in cultural evolution, says Barbara Klump at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior in Radolfzell, Germany.
The saga began when cockatoos discovered that people’s bins often contain food, with bread and fruit being particular favourites. The lids are heavy, but a few birds found they could pry them open at the front, grip the lid in their beak while walking around the rim towards the hinge, and flip the lid over.
The trick was seen in only three suburbs of Sydney in 2018, but by 2019 it had spread to 44 suburbs as cockatoos learned the trick by copying each other, Klump’s team reported previously. The behaviour is a nuisance for residents since the birds often toss rubbish over their front yards and streets.
The team has continued studying this culture war – this time focusing on the human side of the conflict.
The researchers observed the protection strategies being used on 3283 bins in four suburbs where bin-raiding by cockatoos had been reported, and gathered responses from 1134 residents in an online survey.
Some residents started putting bricks and other items on top of their bin lids, but some of the hungry birds figured out they could nudge the bricks off with their heads.
A more sophisticated tactic – which hasn’t yet been defeated – is to wedge a stick or a pair of trainers between the hinges and the bin to stop the lid from flipping over.
“Bricks seemed to work for a while, but cockies got too clever,” one resident told the researchers. “Neighbours on [the] other side of [the] highway suggested sticks. They work.”
The researchers found that protection tactics tended to cluster among neighbouring houses, leading them to conclude that they are copying each other’s tactics just like the birds do.
Once it was thought that only humans have culture, in terms of innovations that spread between groups, but examples have now been seen in several animals, such as chimpanzees, whales and even insects. “We know that a lot of animals are similar to us in the way they learn [from each other] and have their own local traditions,” says Klump.

In the fall of 1994, I saw a white squirrel and the following spring, I saw the little guy again. I got a knowing to look out the window and that’s when the white squirrel scurried across a branch. It was after I called out to Source for help.
A few days later a blue jay touched down where I was sitting by the window only a few feet away. It was white where it’s typically blue, and it had purple feathers where they’re usually white. And when I doubted my request to Source another blue jay landed next to the white one with a squawk as if to say, “Now to do believe?”
July, 2010, I put out another call and shortly after a white crow caw-cawed in the pine tree outside my window. An hour later, I told my mail carrier when white crow did a fly-by one last time. Then September, 2010, I reached out again and there was a black deer in the country road. When I first signed on to Avalon my avatar name was WhiteCrowBlackDeer.

Leaf mimicry is an especially clever form of camouflage. For some animals, looking like a leaf serves as protection from hungry predators. For others, it is a useful way to wait in plain sight for unwitting prey. The adaptation is most common among insects but can also be found in reptiles, amphibians, and even fish!

Male Seahorse Giving Birth To Thousands Of Babies (3:57)
qki0JF053wQ
Seahorse Facts
Name
The Latin name for seahorse is Hippocampus which means “Horse Caterpillar”
Diet
Seahorses eat small crustacea such as Mysis Shrimp. An adult eats 30-50 times a day. Seahorse fry (baby seahorses) eat a staggering 3000 pieces of food per day.
What is a seahorse?
Seahorses are fish. They live in water, breath through gills and have a swim bladder. However they do not have caudal fins and have a long snake-like tail. They also have a neck and a snout that points down.
British Seahorses
There are two species around British Coastline, the Spiny Seahorse (Hippocampus Guttulatus) and the Short Snouted Seahorse (Hippocampus Hippocampus).
Both British Seahorses can be found from the Shetland Isles MAINLY down the west coast of the UK (and all around Ireland) and along the south coast of England; we also have sightings of Seahorses on the east coast and a few years ago they were found in the North Sea and across the Channel in France
Snout
Seahorses have long thin snouts enabling them to probe into nooks and crannies for food. When they find food they suck it up through their snouts like a vacuum cleaner. Their snouts can expand if their prey Is larger than the snout. They are not able to chew and have to disintegrate the food as they eat it.
Eyesight
Seahorses have excellent eyesight and their eyes are able to work independently on either side of their head. This means they can look forwards and backwards at the same time! This is particularly useful as they hunt for food by sight.
Courtship
It was always thought that Seahorses pair for life but research by The Seahorse trust has shown that pair bonding is just for a few months or a season at a time. They meet first thing in the morning to reinforce their pair bonding with an elaborate courtship display. The female meets the male in his territory and as they approach each other, they change colour. The male circles around the female and the pair often spiral around an object. This display can last for up to an hour. Once over the female goes back to her territory.
Territory
Females have a territory of about 100 sq metres and males have a territory of about 0.5 sq metres. Their territories overlap.
Pregnancy
The male is the only creature where the male has a true reversed pregnancy. The female transfers her eggs to the male which he self-fertilises in his pouch. The number of eggs can vary from 50-150 for smaller species to 1500 for larger species.
They receive everything they need in the pouch from oxygen to food. Gestation time varies from 14 days to 4 weeks. Giving birth can be a long process with contractions lasting up to 12 hours.
Baby Seahorses
Baby seahorses are known as fry, when they are born they are on their own. They spend the first two to three weeks of their lives drifting along in the plankton layer of the ocean. Less than one in a thousand will survive long enough to become an adult due to predators.
Tail
Seahorses have a prehensile tail. This allows them to grip onto eel grass and other weeds and prevents them from being washed away by strong currents and waves.
Colour
Seahorses can change colour very quickly and match any surroundings in which it finds itself. They have even been known to turn bright red to match floating debris.
Both males and females also change colour during their courtship display
Body
Unlike most other fish, seahorses have an exo-skeleton. Their bodies are made up of hard, external, bony plates that are fused together with a fleshy covering. They do not have scales.
Movement
Seahorses are poor swimmers. They rely on their dorsal fin beating at 30-70 times per second to propel it along. Pectoral fins either side of the head help with stability and steering.
Habitat
Seahorses live in shallow weedy areas especially eel grass beds. In winter they move into deeper waters to escape the rough weather.
Threats
Seahorses are under threat worldwide for three main reasons: The Traditional Chinese Medicine Trade takes in excess of up to 150 million seahorses a year from the wild and these are used for all types of medicine. The Curio Trade takes approximately one million seahorses from the wild. Along with shells and starfish; they are deliberately taken from the sea and left to die in the boiling sun.
They are then sold as souvenirs, a sad and sorrowful reminder of once beautiful creatures. The pet trade takes an estimated one million seahorses from the wild and It is thought that less than 1,000 survive more than six weeks.
Species
There are about 54 species of seahorses worldwide, and possibly as many sub-species. It is often difficult for scientists to identify seahorses because individuals of the same species can vary greatly in appearance. New species continue to be found.

I've posted this before (it has its own thread (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?62217-A-Pink-Hippopotamus-photographed-in-Kenya--really-)!), but it may also belong here. Not a pink elephant... but a pink hippo.
I took these photos myself on a visit to the Masai Mara game reserve in Kenya in 2001. The hippo was in a remote part of the the Mara River, which runs through the park, and the place I took the pictures was really quite hard to get to.
I reported it to the Kenya Wildlife Service, who were amazed -- and were keen to know exactly where it was. I gave them the location on a map.
The following year I returned to the exact same spot -- and the pink hippo was still right there.

Here is a charming talk about her family’s rescue dogs, by 7-8 year old Emilie Barton, daughter of the channel owner Paul Barton. Nothing standout to timestamp, except for old-dog lovers with little time to spare: please see the middle part of this ~10 min vid.
I have only rarely watched this channel, and until this one only for Paul’s piano posts, but have kept it on my feed because of the nice vibe. Prompted by the recent thread-discussion about vid-posting standards, I looked through the list to see what the posts naming Emilie were about. The one I watched was of her and her dad painting IMO a great portrait (so he is an accomplished art-painter too). Probably should have watched one of her (few) own-painting ones.
I have been in various healing modes for near 2 weeks, and the present one is about thankfulness, hope, and ‘stopping to smell the roses’. Am happy to work up a good intro to something that caught my fancy, and figured the post would raise hearts of others too.
Channel, heartily recommended:

If you didn’t know better, you might see an Atlas moth and think it was an impressive wooden sculpture. The Atlas moth is one of the biggest insects on the planet, with a wingspan stretching up up to over 12 inches across. That’s bigger than a human hand.
A native of Southeast Asia, The moth's Cantonese name translates to “snake’s head moth,” not only because the tips of its wings look similar to a snake’s head, but also because of its survival technique when threatened:

'Italian diver Enzo Maiorca, while diving in the sea of Syracuse, felt something hit him in the back. He turned around and saw a dolphin.
He understood that he was not playing, but expressing something.
The dolphin dived down and Enzo followed him.
At a depth of 12 meters, caught in a net, was another dolphin.
After managing to free him and his wife, when the two dolphins surfaced, they emitted an almost human cry (this is how Maiorca described it). Dolphins can be held underwater for up to 10 minutes and then drown. The captive dolphin was a female about to give birth.
The male surrounded her and stood in front of Enzo and touched his cheek (like a kiss), a gesture of gratitude. Enzo ended his speech with the words:
"Until man learns to respect and communicate with the animal world, he will never be able to know his true role on this earth."

Now we know where the expression “like a bat out of hell” came from.
Edit: just watched the video, and it is a waste of time. No real data, just complaining, and no pertinent visuals. If I was a bat, I’d hightail it out of there too! Brazilian Free-Tailed Bats have been my hero since I learned of them (must be them, tho my memory says “Mexican FTB’s”)
... More bogus fact-checking here at New Scientist, IMO successfully defended (reason being, detractors suggest the high speed events were due to dives, but as far as we know they were measuring ground (lateral and relative to the earth) speed. And the study team claimed still air (~zero winds) the night of the experiment):

Do you know which is the fastest flying animal? A recent scientific paper claims that it could be the Mexican free-tailed bat, who can fly at up to 160km/h, faster than the accepted record for the swift Apus apus.
And my honest opinion? I think the methods are flawed and the result is unlikely - but I invite you to watch the video and read the paper to decide for yourself! :)
Welcome to an unsuspecting episode of Journal Club!
If you want to form your own opinion, feel free to read the paper here:

Dags. Yeah, Irish. Good dags.
My friend, from back in LiveLeak days, is feeling sad. He says it’s about some wildfire that changed a nature spot that he loves, but I think he had a spat with his good lady.
I love his love of Ireland’s wildlands, and his love of his dogs.

“A beaut of a day ... thank you nature . A recent fire Devastated one of my favourite places. I've always had this thing with the outdoors. sometimes i get it right and other times i wish i had edited just the most beautiful pieces.
As ever this will take a while to render...
But when it does I think the most beautiful shots are around 6 minutes to seven minutes.
I'm guessing that when i don't hear feedback, there is none to give. But if you do have thoughts .. please let them out.”

“Good cat!” ...never thought I would say that about a cat ‘not mine’. Visits and is careful about a lizard and an owl. Even seems careful with their feeder bugs too. My kinda ‘next’, my soulish-type, like he/she “be mates” with God too (M. Dundee reference).

I don't know if they can be embedded here, but there are a lot of short videos on Instagram showing cats and dogs who have learned to communicate with their owners via buttons on the floor they can step on which signal a certain word, such as "treat", or "outside" or "angry", to let their owners know what is on their minds.
If anybody on the forum can access those, please post some here. They are amazing!

Can Dogs Talk With Buttons? A Biologist EXPLAINS! (12:52)
Animals communicate with us constantly. I agree with the idea that it is really important to communicate with your dog or pet. But do we really need expensive buttons on our floors to tell us they want to play? I'm here to tell you to take a closer look at these talking dog videos when you see them and think critically about the information presented. The primary form of communication for dogs, cats, or any animal including humans, is body language. You can tell the mood of someone by the way that they’re walking without a word being said. Most behavior experts agree that 70 to 93 percent of all human communication is nonverbal.
And I am far from the only scientist to urge caution when watching these videos of animals using Fluent Pet buttons. A fluent pet review in a leading magazine on neuroscience, psychology, and deep learning found:
“Some well-known research biases that are normally carefully avoided in formal scientific studies are not controlled for in these videos. In particular, the ‘meaning’ of ‘sentences’ produced by the dogs is often reconstructed by the owners themselves… and what is interpreted often seems to be… whatever the owner wants it to be.” -- Neuroscience News

I won't argue with the scientist, but for a lot of people who aren't empathic or intuitive, I think the buttons are a great learning tool, and also for "quackademics" whose heads are too far up their youknowwhats to allow for anything so abstract....
Such tools can encourage more empathic communication, and help animals to understand what certain words mean.
My friend who is an animal whisperer says that animals perceive through pictures we send to them mind to mind, but that's not always such an easy skill to develop.
These buttons could be one step in helping some to develop that skill, as long as they aren't relied on too much.

Chameleons catch prey with their long, sticky, catapult-like tongue, which fires out at great speed from the mouth. These lizards are found mainly in Africa and on the island of Madagascar. A chameleon's tongue shoots out of its mouth and hits the prey in about 0.007 seconds.

17:30 - “judicious, secretive, gentle”.
Lots of factoids about them in her talk, and Nick is a gracious and effective prompter.

That was a juvenile brown bear, so it probably would have been severely injured, probably to the point that it couldn't hunt anymore and would die (nature is brutal and makes humans look like care bears (at least, until war breaks out)).
But a bull moose (that was not) and a full grown brown bear.... they usually don't even have conflicts because they both "know" the outcome (both die).
3CqNbzCHBdo
I've trained and bred "giant breed" dogs for decades, large predators posture a LOT, but rarely engage because they know the probable outcome is death or at the least, loss of status (social predators anyway, dogs etc..) you will see some very intense "posturing" however... animals have ego's too...LOL
