First let me say I am indebted to Wade Frazier (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?10672) for his website, A Healed Planet (http://www.ahealedplanet.net/home.htm), where I found a reference to this library, and to Bill Ryan for inviting Wade to join our forum.
Health begins in the soil; Healing begins with hygiene; Liberty begins with freedom.
Justin Crawford and Steve Solomon created the Soil and Health Library (http://www.soilandhealth.org/) thirteen years ago.
This website provides free e-books, mainly about holistic agriculture, holistic health and self-sufficient homestead living. There are secondary collections about social criticism and transformational psychology.
Well, not quite free now.
From 1997 when the Soil And Health Library started until January, 2005, nearly all costs were paid by me, Steve Solomon. After seven plus years of financing the library out of my own pocket I began to feel some resentment over this. About that same time I also realized that the library's content was not increasing as rapidly as it once had been. My negative emotions were burdening the library's progress.
So I requested Advice about this matter. And was given this answer: "ask those using your library to contribute a small amount; a once in a lifetime membership fee." So I am doing just that.
This library provides a wealth of rare books, many out of print, at least one banned! From the Copyright Clearance (http://www.soilandhealth.org/copyform.aspx?bookcode=020316) page:
To most conveniently obtain a copy of copyright-protected materials you may become a Contributing Member of this library. Contributing Members instantly receive an email granting access to the copy they are requesting. People who do not wish to contribute financially to this library's ongoing expenses still are allowed to obtain copies of copyright-protected materials.
Full members pay a once in a lifetime fee of €10.00, usually through PayPal.
Currently €10.00 Euros equals*
* $ 12.91 US Dollars
* £ 8.3 British Pounds
* ¥ 1073 Japanese Yen
* $ 12.82 Canadian Dollars
* $ 12.96 Australian Dollars
What got me started was that I began searching for a copy of Stale Food vs Fresh Food by Dr. Robert Ford (thanks to Wade), wondering why it had been banned in the USA. It is widely sought after and has been quoted several times:
Stale Food vs Fresh Food - a banned book! (http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/chris/2003/07/04/stale_food_vs_fresh_food_a_banned_book.htm)
Book banning, burning, suppressing (http://www.whale.to/a/book_banning.html)
Power FROM the People? (http://www.visionarytrainers.com/blog/post/2009/11/04/Power-FROM-the-People.aspx)
Heart disease quotes (http://www.whale.to/m/quotes20.html#stale1)
Fatty Rubbish And Filth In Flour (http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/chris/2003/07/25/fatty_rubbish_and_filth_in_flour.htm)
If you scour the Web you may be able to find a copy of it, along with:
Factors of Soil Formation
Green Manuring
The Living Soil
The Natural Way of Farming (Green Philosophy)
The New Science of Healing (Kuhne)
The One-Straw Revolution
The Soil Food Web
Tree Crops - A Permanent Agriculture
to give you an idea of some more popular titles.
But this is just scratching the surface (excuse the pun). There is a wealth of other material here, and the cost of a lifetime membership is so low as to be negligible. For about the same money you can be mailed a DVD containing the titles you ordered.
Steve Solomon lives in Exeter, Tasmania, Australia.
