Sorry, way off topic again, but I remember first-footers and party-goers doing the highland fling and the gay gordons trashing the furniture in the inebriate chaos. Happy memories, thanks Chris.

I traveled through Scotland and drove to Inverness. I will never forget it - what a beautiful place. And I am reminded every time I see a greybeard post!

When I was at the lock, (1982?) there was a group from the U.S. doing some exploring experiment on the water looking for Nessie. If I remember correctly, they had a type of floating dock made of circular pods and when something swam under it, it sent a small dart or something to try to hit whatever fish was there in an attempt to obtain a DNA sample.

I spent a lot of time in Glasgow and went to a Celtic vs Ranger match - that was an adventure!

Yes Inverness is a beautiful place and the fastest growing "town/city" in "Europe"
Its my home town so somewhat biased.
Near Loch Ness of monster fame--I dont have an opinion on that--may be so.
Near Culloden Battlefield and the Clava Standing Stones--which seem to have holes bored in stone of surrounding " buildings/small round ".
There was a fort with melted stone walls-- Torvean Hillfort nothing left to see.
Anyway quite a lot relating to legend near Inverness.

I went to school in Dunblane in the 60s , and have driven through the Great Glen many times. Loch Ness is very atmospheric, in a ‘dark’ kind of way.
On my first visit to Inverness our progress through the town was halted by a lone cow meandering nonchalantly up the main street. It was like being in India.
It’s a beautiful area, in easy reach of lovely and interesting places , like the Black Isle and Findhorn.

I agree Lochness is that bit dark.
However I spent a lot of my youth in Findhorn where I learnt to sail---the happiest days of my life--an much later going to The Findhorn Foundation --an ACIM study group.
