View Full Version : More bodies expected in Australia Qld flood zone

Authorities expect to find more bodies in Queensland communities torn apart by flash floods that have so far killed eight people and left 72 missing.
Dozens of survivors remain stranded in small communities in the Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane, after it was hit by walls of water that earlier ripped through Toowoomba.
A massive effort involving defence helicopters is underway to reach people stranded in the devastated towns of Grantham and Murphys Creek, where bodies have been found, and at Withcott.
Advertisement: Story continues below Atrocious weather is continuing to lash affected communities, and Queenslanders have been told to brace for more deaths.
Premier Anna Bligh said authorities were very concerned about 11 people missing from Murphys Creek, a ravine area that felt the full force of the torrent.
"We are facing some just terribly, terribly sad and tragic stories and I'm very concerned that we're going to see more of those today," she told the Nine Network.
"Mother nature has delivered something terrible in the last 48 hours but there's more to go ..."
Queensland's Disaster Co-ordinator Ian Stewart said the toll would almost certainly rise, with 72 people still missing.
"I personally believe it will get worse today, and we are waiting on confirmation from a number of concerning reports," Mr Stewart told the ABC.
"Obviously, our focus now, today, will be to try and help the survivors because we still have a large number of people isolated in the township of Grantham."
Police have confirmed eight deaths so far, including several children. Bodies have been found in the Toowoomba CBD, Murphys Creek and Grantham.
Authorities on Tuesday said all the cars swept away in Toowoomba had been checked and no further fatalities from the CBD area were expected.
Ms Bligh said the scale of the disaster had put emergency services under enormous strain.
Four defence force helicopters have been sent to the flood zone along with extra swift-water rescue experts, Emergency Management Queensland told AAP.
"Right now we have every possible available resource deployed into this region to search for those people that we know are missing," the premier said.
"This is going to be, I think, a very grim day, particularly for the people in that region, and a desperate hour here in Queensland."
More heavy rainfall and possible severe storms are expected in Toowoomba on Tuesday, which is set to further strain rescue efforts.
But Bureau of Meteorology hydrologist Peter Baddeley said the wall of water seen on Monday in Toowoomba and nearby communities was unlikely to be repeated.
More than 50 people remain holed up at a school in Grantham, which looks like a cyclone has swept through it with houses and businesses destroyed and cars wedged in trees.
Grantham resident Christopher Field said the devastation was mind boggling.
"There were houses floating past ...," he told the ABC of the scenes he witnessed at the height of Monday's crisis.
He said historic buildings had been destroyed along with the local pub.
"Grantham shops are being all washed through, cars everywhere in the main street and cars back under the bridge," he said, adding the water had receded but with more rain falling was starting to climb again on Tuesday.
He said there were emotional scenes at the school where residents had taken shelter.
"... I had an elderly man come out and just give me a hug earlier, in tears, he'd lost his house."
Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones said everything possible was being done to help those caught up in the disaster, which has sparked mass evacuations across the valley.
He said an evacuation centre at Gatton was almost full, with others holed up at effectuation points at Grantham, Heildon and Withcott.
The latest ugly chapter in Queensland's flood crisis will dramatically push up a damage bill the premier last week put at about $5 billion.
Regional Australia Minister Simon Crean said federal cash would continue to flow to communities hit by the "horrific" disaster.
"It's just massive in its scale, it's unrelenting and it's not over," Mr Crean told the ABC.
In Toowoomba, where a woman and boy were killed in the CBD, the scale of the damage from the tsunami-like torrent is extraordinary.
"It was just unprecedented. Some people are saying an inland tsunami, and I think that probably sums it up really," Mayor Peter Taylor told the Seven Network, saying the wall of water arrived without warning.
He said searches were still being conducted in some areas and efforts were also being turned to repairing infrastructure and the clean-up.
"There are buildings in the main CBD area in the lower lying areas that were penetrated by high levels of water, so there's a significant amount of damage ..."
Meanwhile, the flood crisis continues to play out in other parts of the state, with authorities warning of possible flooding in Brisbane city from Wednesday.
The Brisbane City Council has warned about 200 properties could be flooded, most in the areas of Rocklea, Albion, Milton and Auchenflower.
Ms Bligh said the water that fell in the Toowoomba area was expected to move into the catchment of the Wivenhoe dam system that feeds into the Brisbane River.
She said engineers were assessing what that would mean for the dam and the water release strategy into the river.
"The implications of this event are far from over," the premier said.
Overnight, residents in Dalby and Chinchilla were evacuated for the second time in a fortnight.
There was also flooding in Gympie with the water moving down the Mary River towards Maryborough.

The following post was by Bill Ryan sometime in 2008...I think!
Secret Government Mega-Projects?
Everyone once in a while a reader email, or a news tip, comes along which just screams for more follow-up because it fits with a lot of 'rumbles' being heard lately. That was the case this week when the following email arrived from Australia:
"Hi George, keep it short, know you have tons to look at everyday? I just don't get it? my Husband is working on this huge project, in the first meetings the top management levels are informed the Government is building it for the 10,000 year flood and its not public knowledge. He looks around and hardly anyone bats an eyelid? The speaker looks my husband in the eye and says yes , the last time Noah was involved? yes, That flood! 45 billion being spent on this one. His part is in Brisbane, Queensland ,yet many roads being rebuilt higher all over the state and many new motor way tunnels. The tunnels in Brisbane are what we believe will be the way to relay the big floods out to sea (too bad if your in it at the time is my guess) Examining the way they have built the new hospital, it appears that ships could dock there, no reason to be built that high. No photography is allowed and this is regulated strictly. Must be finished before 2012, but last few days they have suggested to speed up works and intend to work under floodlight around the clock. Now, thats just making me a bit more nervous. Maybe your right, 2012 has been moved forward? Feel free to ask for more info, he will send it over the weekend if so. I probably would have dismissed it as myth myself, but when you're on the payroll for the big event, well, it doesn't get more real than that? Are there Any projects over there reporting the same reason for big projects. Maybe they weren't meant to slip the truth into this meeting? Just reply simply: more info...and I will forward facts if your interested. The company is sworn to secrecy but he hasn't signed anything and says he is willing to speak. Why should we be in the dark while they spend so much to safe guard the corporate structures? I really don't think we will get warnings on what they must already know is coming.
Needless to say, I wrote back and said "Heck yes, we want more details...as much as can be supplied..."
So overnight I got this:
"Hi George, I will describe the scope of the project I am involved with: I am building a holding tank which is approx 400 metres long, 200 metres wide, up to 11 metres deep , with the exit to the northern tunnel coming out level with the holding tank, and exit from southern tunnel is about 3 metres below it.The concrete walls are one metre thick. The Royal Womens Brisbane Hospital,(approx 1/4 klm away) has had a face lift, everything has been designed so water will not reach up to the fourth story (here ,that is approx 12 metres) The bus link built is in line with that height (4 storys) with a 12 metre dip in the road spanning half a kilometre, the flood waters would follow this pattern to the holding tank. Anyone observing the height of the overpass where it lines up with the 4th story of the hospital, running down to the road level, can see easily, when the floods come in there ,it is a perfect docking bay for large boats. The holding tank is obviously designed to slow the water when receding. All new roads rise over the underground tunnels which indicate where the flood waters will go. but, note here, in the event of a type of Marshal law, these tunnels are approx 8 metres high and 5+ metres wide, which would allow closures to the public and movement of military vehicles from all directions (except towards the east, being a river) 45 Billion is only whats been spent so far, which is coincidently the last bail out figure I was personally told it was for the 10,000 year flood from the project manager in a high level meeting. Looking at the contracts here, the project is under: (a variety of trusts and corporations) The Queensland State Government is funding it. plz protect my identity, any more info just ask. Like to know if same projects are happening in America? will include a photo, but your for eyes only and don't publish what you've seen. They WILL KNOW I TOOK THESE! 035.jpg is the full view of the construction of the holding tank, the furtherest excavator is at the southern exit of the bypass tunnels, and is rock breaking down to the level of the base of the tank. 33 & 34 ,jpg .photos: Connecting to
tunnels, last stage of opening it up to northern exit internal tunnels that are completed. best regards
Unbelievable pictures were included of the holding tank construction site as well as a picture of a rock wall against
which a huge arc can be seen which will be the tunnel from which the arriving liquid would flow. Now, we need to sit back as ask some
interesting questions:
*
What IF - and this is a HUGE IF - there is something behind the recent financial bailouts besides just the collapse of "too big to fail" banks. What if - instead - there is a planet-wide massive construction push underway to be ready for (fill in whatever blanks you care to here) and ask "Isn't a financial crisis a good raise to raise dough?"
The obvious question we might be asking is why? One reason may be that Brisbane is only 2700 miles from the Antarctic ice shelves which, if there was either a lot of global warming, or a planet-wobbling quake of sufficient
magnitude, could break ice off which is presently on land and such an event would no doubt cause a huge wall of water/sea level rise of catastrophic proportions. As to other cities in Australia, Victoria, or Melbourne, these may be equally at risk as they are a mere 2,000 miles from the ice shelves. A long time ago, USGS had a study - now
long lost to the 'net - that suggested that if all the glaciers and ice shelves in the world were to slide into the oceans at once, there would be a rise in sea levels globally on the order of 250-300 FEET/ However that number would be after things had settled down after the initial event. You can use your imagination to figure out the size of the waves that could wander across the planet.
Worse, that kind of an event would almost certainly have catastrophic impacts on large human-made projects like the Three Gorges Dam in China. Should that fail, not only could it spell the end of globalism, but in all perhaps a billion people - one 6th of the world's population could die as a result of both direct and indirect effects.
Needless to say, our source is protected and the pictures have been forwarded to multiple entry points onto the net as a kind of "insurance policy". Don't like 'thinking the unthinkable" but the thought rattling around inside my head is "Is it just way out on the fringe of possibility that the whole global financial crisis is contrived by governments in order to corral people into working, something they would not be inclined to do if the magnitude of coming events is of the scale this Australian megaproject portends? Or, to put it another way, if governments around the world announced one day this fall that "The Antarctic ice shelves and Greenland glaciers around about to slide off land and into the water and sea level is about to rise 300 feet....but no worries, ya'll just keep working and let's have no panic here...we have a plan and that whole financial panic stuff was just a ruse to allow us to raise money for our "life saving" projects...
Strange stuff to ponder, huh? Say, did that "No more floods" covenant have an expiration date on it? Might want to keep your eyes open, especially in the 200-600 foot elevation areas of big cities near coasts...
WOW.
An Ark?
Now I'm really confused.
If that one is hidden, it has nothing to do with this project since it's public knowledge, right?
The Australian Ark
10-28-2008, 05:17 AM
Hi, All:
As the world continues to change, and we all hurtle on into whatever future awaits us, I wanted to make a public statement here: that I'm no longer thinking of basing myself in Switzerland, but am seriously considering relocating to Australia.
The reasons for this are many (and some of them are obvious... many people think I'm Australian already!) - and I'd like to list them below:
1) Kerry and I met a lot of totally wonderful people there. We were both blown away by the remarkable friendship and hospitality we were shown on every day of our visit.
2) I'm an outdoorsman. I love wildlife, the forest, the sea and the desert. I was brought up in West Africa. A few years ago I drove across the Kalahari. In my time I've been a fairly serious mountaineer. Australia is a land where I can really feel at home, wherever I am.
3) Australia, working closely with a number of other governments, is preparing to take on the role of the Ark of the world.
4) The doors may close soon.
5) We've been offered a safe place to be, planned and designed by a very remarkable person. We had the pleasure and privilege of spending many hours with him and his family, and got to know him well. He is (amongst other things) a good friend of Duncan Roads, the well-known and widely-respected editor of NEXUS magazine.
We'll be delighted to share the details about this planned community. I'm awaiting more information - some images, maps and a powerpoint presentation - and will write up a full report as soon as I can.
The community is on the east coast, a couple of hours from Sydney. 35 million Australian dollars (AUD) of purpose-built infrastructure is already in place, including roads, power, water and drainage.
More investment is needed to complete the construction. The community is planned to house about 1000 adults and children. Based on what we know, and the detailed plans we have seen, this is the best solution we've yet encountered to the problems which MAY be in store for us in a worst-case scenario.
The location is extremely geologically stable and our friend, who has done substantial research and is exceptionally well-informed, has convinced us this is one of the safest locations on the planet measured by a number of different parameters.
The facility has been planned for twenty years and a great deal of thought and planning has already been completed. It's called The Australian Ark.
The 'Ark' is currently envisaged to include a shielded underground facility with hydroponics, technical and craft workshops, exercise and recreation facilities, a school, a comprehensive library, communication facilities, medical facilities, the most advanced water recycling technology, its own micro-economy and democratic structure,
and (believe it or not) its own very clean mini nuclear reactor
which will generate enough self-sufficient power for at least fifty years.
The best analogy to describe all this is the comprehensive facilities of a cruise liner which is not actually sailing anywhere. (Rather, it's on top of a forested ridge in an idyllic location which Kerry and I have visited. We loved the place.)
Community members will need to contribute several hundred thousand AUD (a bargain right now, as the AUD is so low) as an investment in the property/real estate which they will own. Detailed figures have been calculated but as I write I don't have the numbers to hand. All legal safeguards will be in place.
We are as certain as we can be that this person can be trusted fully. We like him a great deal and he is a highly intelligent, spiritual, capable, practical, values-driven man with a most interesting background. He is a Camelot and Avalon follower, has seen every one of our videos, admires our work, knows we are real (he checked our background thoroughly!) - and is delighted to invite interest, with his warm personal regards to you all, from the Project Avalon community.
We will release full details of the 'Ark' soonest and we'll set up a special e-mail address for interested parties (from anywhere in the world) to find out more. To register interest and log your name on a contact list to receive further details and updates, send an e-mail to ark@projectavalon.net (which can be blank if you don't want to write anything) with the subject 'AUSTRALIAN ARK', or with AUSTRALIAN ARK in the message body. Your details will not be passed on to any other party.
Our friend encourages anyone considering relocating to Australia to start to take steps immediately - even if the first step is to find out more information about immigration procedures and protocols. I am doing just that and am currently planning to be in Australia by Christmas.
My own personal regards to my new Australian friends: do get in touch, and it'd be great a pleasure to hear from you. I may soon be seeking formal membership of the Australian Ground Crew
Very best to all, Bill

Toowoomba:
There were cars literally picked up like matchsticks, swept along by the floodwaters. There were people clinging to light poles for their lives and emergency service workers were suddenly getting calls from all over the city for help.
There were people stranded on top of cars. Just incredible to think that in this city that could happen and it was right in the middle of the CBD (central business district).
I think of all the images we've seen throughout this flood crisis in Queensland, this would have to be amongst the most dramatic scenes that we've ever seen.

Massive iceberg calves from the Mertz Glacier
26 February 2010
http://www.antarctica.gov.au/media/news-archive/2010/massive-iceberg-calves-from-the-mertz-glacier
"A massive iceberg, measuring 78 kilometres long and 39 kilometres wide, has calved from the Mertz Glacier in the Australian Antarctic Territory.
The iceberg has a surface area of 2,500 square kilometres and broke off the glacier after another 97 kilometre-long iceberg (B9B) collided with the tongue of the glacier.
The calving event was detected recently by Australian and French researchers who have been studying the Mertz Glacier since 2007.
The tongue has had major rift in it from opposite sides for many years and the piece that has broken off is about half the length of the tongue."
concievably this event ( in conjunction with other world wide weather anomalies, could be seen to have contributed to unusual summer weather conditions

4th January 2011
An array of underwater cameras, moorings and sensors will be deployed at the Mertz Glacier in east Antarctica this summer for the first time since a major iceberg calving event.
In January last year, 78 kilometres of the Mertz Glacier tongue broke off after being hit by another 97 kilometre-long iceberg.
A team of nearly 40 Australian and international scientists will depart Hobart today on the Aurora Australis for a month-long voyage to the glacier to measure the impacts of the calving event.

Hi
I live in Brisbane (Queensland Aus) the floods we are experiencing here are of biblical proportion.
I believe it was two weeks ago they said that the area affected with flooding was equivalent to the size of France and Germany combined.
It is much worse that that now.
I have my TV on and they started evacuating the city (this is the capital of the state) and some of the surrounding suburbs as I write this.
There is no end in sight and more is yet to come.
We have been lucky that we haven’t seen thousands die as probably would have been the case if this was any number of other countries.
I fear that this may not be the case before we finally get through all this.
One of the main things that I see from all this is the spirit of humanity.
Despite all of our negative characteristics as a species, when we shine, we really shine.

10 die as 'instant tsunami' hits Australia town
BRISBANE, Australia — Greg Kowald was driving through the center of Toowoomba when a terrifying, tsunami-like wall of water roared through the streets of the northeast Australian city.
Office windows exploded, cars careened into trees and bobbed in the churning brown water like corks. The deluge washed away bridges and sidewalks; people desperately clung to power poles to survive. Before it was over, the flash flood left at least 10 dead and 78 missing.
"The water was literally leaping, six or 10 feet into the air, through creeks and over bridges and into parks," Kowald, a 53-year-old musician, told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "There was nowhere to escape, even if there had been warnings. There was just a sea of water about a kilometer (half a mile) wide.

THE nation confronts its worst flood disaster in living memory, with 30 people believed dead and 78 missing in southeast Queensland.
The wall of water bearing down on Brisbane threatens to engulf thousands of homes and put more people at risk.
The official death toll from the flash flooding that ripped through Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley on Monday stands at 10, with half the victims children, but Julia Gillard warned that this was bound to increase.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said the number of suspected deaths was twice or more the confirmed toll. A senior emergency official told The Australian more than 30 people had died, including nine whose bodies had been located but not yet recovered.
The identified victims include Steven and Sandra Matthews of Spring Bluff, who died saving the lives of their children.
As the focal point of the crisis shifted to Brisbane, the State Emergency Service reported last night that a four-year-old boy had drowned in floodwaters in the Ipswich region on the capital's western fringe. Rescuers saved his mother but the little boy was lost during a rescue at Marburg, 60km west of Brisbane, when he fell from a boat sent to reach them after the woman's car became stranded.
Last night, Black Hawk army helicopters completed the evacuation of Forest Hill, 67km west of Brisbane, after it was menaced by swiftly rising waters. Its entire population of more than 300 was airlifted to nearby Gatton.
The once picturesque hamlet of Grantham, which took the brunt of the tsunami-like torrent that poured down the Great Dividing Range from Toowoomba, was a scene of epic destruction. Police believe bodies are buried beneath the silt the flood left behind.

This is Margaret st, Brisbane CBD. The water is coming from the drain pipes. It's not river water yet.
We've got reports of boats + the stuff they were tied to coming down river, there's a boat and something stuck to one of the walkover bridges right now.
They have not cut power to this building yet. They were meant to at 7am.
Most people have up and left - the morning looking down on the city has been like watching ants evacutaing. And people putting up garbage liners and sandbag's against shop fronts.
Can hear lots of evac sirens and the such in the background - can never make out what the man is trying to say in them tho.
Steph's thoughts = lots of Overhype atm. Will wait for said "killer king tide" to be convinced. *edit - im prepared to eat foot for this one.
Being a geekhouse - we have a large number of laptop's fully charged, and a single net connection indipenedant from the land line for them as well. If it gets eventfull here i will log in and post updates for yall :)

The following is an email that was posted on UrbanSurvival.com from someone in Australia. The underlining is mine.
The speaker looks my husband in the eye and sais yes , the last time Noah was involved? yes, That flood! The company is sworn to secrecy but he hasn't signed anything and sais he is willing to speak. Why should we be in the dark while they spend so much to safe guard the corporate structures? I really don't think we will get warnings on what they must already know is coming. yours..."

Update 2:
UNBELIEVABLE! This is really a Full-On Disaster Zone! Over 30,000 homes in Queensland have been effected by the floods so far (That's 75% of the Entire State!) and it's not expected to Peak until tomorrow!
As previously mentioned, I knew the Brisbane river was going to rise even further, every single access path was flooded and blocked off by either the Police or Emergency Services!
I am still finding it hard to believe that the flood waters can rise so quickly!
Here are some updated photos as promised.

Flooding situation worsens across the globe
January 12, 2011 – The flooding picture across the globe has worsened over the last 24 hours. The Great Barrier Reef is now threatened by the extensive flooding inundating Australia. Jon Brodie told CNN News, “These are extraordinary events. The whole of the inner-shore reef lagoon filled with river water,” says Jon Brodie, Principle Researcher for the James Cook University’s Australian Center for Tropical Freshwater Research. Mass evacuations are occurring in Brisbane as rivers continue to swell in Australia’s 3rd largest city. In the Philippines, the death toll from flooding has risen to 40 and more rain is in the forecast. In Sri Lanka, the death toll from flooding has hit 18.

So, we already have all the best resources right here :)
The US military will just row them to Guantanamo Bay, (like they did with Haitians) and then take their bananas - which will likely be $30 each if there are any to be had. They're into claiming the resources of countries they aid.
So, be very careful what you wish for.

You know...what we have seen globally this past few months, as bad as it has been , this is nothing to what the Earth can produce.
We are seeing panick buying, no bread, milk, eggs, veg, fruit. all gone! tin food, lifelong milk are almost gone.
ALWAYS, have stored food, water, gas burners, candles, battery radio and anything else you can think of. We as humans are far to docile in our thinking , as seen in Brisbane where people purchased property in flood zones, next to rivers ect, thinking "It wont happen again" or "not in my life time" or simply no thought at all.
I will not be surprised to see more of this in OZ in the coming days, weeks, months, as Bluestflame has pointed out

(CNN) -- Heavy rains and flooding in Brazil have caused 260 deaths in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, CNN affiliate TV Record reported Wednesday.
The greatest damage was in a cluster of towns in a mountainous area northeast of the city of Rio from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, where civil defense officials said 147 lost their lives.
That included 114 people reported killed in Teresopolis by a mudslide, local officials told CNN. Some 1,000 others were left without shelter and were being moved to a local gym and schools.
And, in nearby Petropolis, 18 deaths were recorded, the state government said, according to Agencia Brasil. Three deaths were reported in Itaipava, while in Nova Friburgo there were 12.

BRISBANE, Australia (Reuters) – Floods left parts of Australia's third-biggest city on Thursday looking like a war zone in need of years of reconstruction, the state premier said, while fresh threats loomed with a cyclone forecast offshore.
The floods across the state of Queensland have killed at least 19 people, 12 of whom died in the Toowoomba area inland, and 61 were missing, the state government said.
Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley region, west of state capital Brisbane, were devastated by tsunami-like flash flooding on Monday.
Large parts of Brisbane have become muddy lakes, with an entire waterfront cafe among the debris washing down the Brisbane River, a torrent that has flooded 12,000 homes in the city of 2 million and left 118,000 buildings without power.
Aerial views of Brisbane showed a sea of brown water with rooftops poking through the surface.
"What I'm seeing looks more like a war zone in some places," Queensland Premier Anna Bligh told reporters after surveying the disaster from the air. "All I could see was their rooftops ... underneath every single one of those rooftops is a horror story."
Floodwaters in 35 suburbs, which on Thursday peaked below disastrous levels predicted a day earlier, forced residents to take to boats to move about the streets, where traffic signs peeped above the water.
The floodwaters destroyed or damaged many parts of the city's infrastructure. One group of residents was lucky not to disappear into gushing waters when the street they were walking along collapsed.
"The ground started to move and began to rumble like thunder. We all started to run as fast as we could," said Rebecca Bush. "The next minute we heard this huge cracking noise that sounded like lightning had just struck. We turned around and the pathway was gone. It had completely collapsed."
An emotional Bligh said her state, reliant on farming and mining in rugged outback regions, would recover regardless of the cost and estimates that three quarters of it -- an area the size of South Africa -- was now officially a disaster zone.

TWO bull sharks have reportedly been spotted swimming down the main street of a flooded Queensland town, 30km inland.

A rain-making method developed by Thai king Bhumipol Adulyadej is set to aid Queensland in battles with drought after an agreement between the state government and the Thai royal household.
The Queensland government's access to the rain-making technology, developed by King Bhumipol over the past 30 years, came a year after the state approached the royal household last year.
As a result, Queensland is set to be the first major region outside Thailand where the rain-making technology will be put into full effect.
In the past, Australia had joined other nations requesting information exchange and technology on the technique.
But Soothiporn Jitmittraparp, secretary general of the National Research Council of Thailand, said similarities in topography in Thailand and Queensland would be beneficial to the success of the project.
"The climate and geology of Queensland drought area is very similar to some parts of Thailand. So we're quite sure this technology can be used effectively in Queensland," Soothiporn told AAP.
The technique largely relies on cloud seeding generally undertaken using chemicals that promote the formation of water droplets within the cloud formations.
The chemical cloud seeding in turn creates clouds with differing temperatures at different altitudes.
There are several stages in the process, with sodium chloride used in the final stage to trigger rain.

ELEANOR HALL: The Federal Government is defending its decision to award $10-million to a company to trial rain-making technology.
The Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull has announced the grant to the Australian Rain Corporation, a company part-owned by Rupert Murdoch's nephew, Matt Handbury.
But researchers commissioned by the National Water Commission to investigate the technology have questioned whether the $10-million grant should have been awarded now, saying a more careful evaluation of the science is needed first.
Mr Handbury himself agrees the science is in no way conclusive, but denies his family connections have helped him secure the federal money.
Tanya Nolan has our report.
TANYA NOLAN: It's a technique developed in Russia in the last decade, and it involves sending electrical charges into the atmosphere to make clouds and ultimately rain.
But the problem with it, says Neville Fletcher, a visiting fellow at ANU and emeritus professor of physics at the University of New England, is that it hasn't ever been examined in a thorough scientific way, nor has it been peer reviewed.
NEVILLE FLETCHER: I haven't seen yet enough evidence to say that I'm persuaded that it's going to work. The measurements in Queensland showed that there was more rain in the catchment area than there usually was when the equipment was running. But there was a lot more rain in that part of Queensland at that time as well. So it's a little bit hard to say. It didn't show that the equipment worked, but there was nothing to indicate that it didn't work. So it was a possible.
TANYA NOLAN: Professor Fletcher's conclusions are contained in a report released in August, prepared in conjunction with Ken McCracken from the CSIRO and commissioned by the Government's National Water Commission.
The report warned the commission not to go ahead with any trials of the technology until the science behind it could be more thoroughly tested. But it did say that if it could be done "at no great expense" a trial could be "worthwhile".
The report was produced after a small-scale trial of the technology was conducted in May in conjunction with the University of Queensland, which concluded there was an increase in rainfall at the time and recommended more scientific testing be done.
Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull has now awarded $10-million to the Australian Rain Corporation, which owns the technology, to conduct a full scientific trial of it.
MALCOLM TURNBULL: The report commissioned by the National Water Commission recommended a further scientific trial. The University of Queensland went a lot further than that and recommended a very substantial long-term operational trial as well, which would have cost a great deal more than $10-million.
What I've endeavoured to do is to ensure that we do, we have both a meaningful operational trial and a scientific assessment so that we can investigate this technology in a timely fashion.
TANYA NOLAN: Professor Fletcher says the money would be better spent in stages, rather than funding all the stages simultaneously as the Government is doing.
NEVILLE FLETCHER: My preference would have been first to spend a smaller amount of money doing a careful evaluation of the science, and then, if that looked reasonable, to go onto a field trial. The trouble with jumping in immediately with a field trial in parallel with the science is that the science may turn up things which indicate the field trial ought to be done in a different way.
TANYA NOLAN: Professor Fletcher's view is supported by the water commissioner, Peter Cullen, who is quoted in the News Limited press as saying he is surprised the full $10-million has been awarded before the first step is taken of seriously evaluating the technology.
Chairman of Australian Rain Corporation Matt Handbury says he appreciates that argument, and agrees there are some holes in the science.
MATT HANDBURY: I can understand that logic, but as I said, even when you've worked out the science, how it works, we still wouldn't have demonstrated that it works, and the need for water supplies is so critical in Australia.
TANYA NOLAN: You're name has come up in connection with your uncle, Rupert Murdoch, as possibly a reason why you might be getting all this money at once without the rigorous scientific testing?
MATT HANDBURY: Oh, I haven't heard that Tanya. I think I don't seem to be able to get my name in the paper without my family connections, which I'm proud of and delighted in, but I don't see how… Rupert's aware of this, he's pretty interested in the environment and climate change at the moment, and very interested, but he has no direct involvement, and…
TANYA NOLAN: You don't think your family connection may have precipitated this $10-million windfall for your technology?
MATT HANDBURY: Not in the slightest. I think that… not in the slightest, I can't see the connection.
ELEANOR HALL: The chairman of the Australian Rain Corporation, also the nephew of Rupert Murdoch, Matt Handbury, speaking to Tanya Nolan.

After receiving an urgent e-mail from a contact in Australia informing me of bizarre weather on the weather satellite imagery, I checked out the data and just hours later more strangeness. I am waiting to hear from the Australian Government’s weather bureau for their own explanation.
3793
Written at 2230 Hrs (US Eastern) 15th January 2010.
A contact in Australia just alerted me to what he describes as “very strange weather taking place over the south west of Australia”. He told me to go to the national weather satellite images if I could not open the images he attached (See left). By the time I had discovered the e-mail and checked, the large clearly defined ring had mostly dissipated but still was just visible on a time loop which was spiraling counter clockwise (Low Pressure system).
3794
The images above is what my contact sent which shows a wide band ring covering many hundreds of miles across the south west of Australia with a small dot (presumably cloud) shown just right of center.
I saved the loop of the area when I checked the site several hours later but unfortunately it was encrypted not to permit this. The loop is not now on the site but the satellite image taken at 16:30 UTC is also very interesting. It shows a very large rotating over the western Australia where the mysterious large ring appeared from which a small but brief condense trail formed off the coastline and from the center what had been the huge ring a series of what appears to be three mini spiraling arms are seen moving out of the area, moving north east. This is one of those rare occasions when I could buy weather experimentation effects or other experiments being performed by HAARP are being observed. It is hoped to receive an explanation from the Australian Government Weather Bureau for these series of strange effects.

PA forum australian members, if you get time to monitor this map, please take a screen capture of, and post, any other bizarre anomalies. For what it's worth, I find the freeware screen capture tool Jing (http://www.techsmith.com/jing/) by Techsmith extremely simple to use.
The person asking the Australian Government for answers to these questions in beforeitsnews is no less than Colin Andrews of crop circles fame. See his web page on satellite weather map anomalies here (http://www.colinandrews.net/OtherCircles.html).
(added later)
Thanks irishspirit for fixing the images.

Yes Pal, they are the same images.
I have tried to attach them to the file and it came through this way. I have not had any problems with viewing them.
Thanks for the type, will try to fix.

Jordan Rice told rescuers to take his ten-year-old brother Blake and their mother Donna from their trapped car before going back for him.
