Well I've suffered from this for decades.
Years ago I remember making a lovely dinner consisting of mashed spuds, creamy chicken, peas, carrots and gravy.
My lodger walked into the room when I was half way through eating it and asked what the funny smell was. He then asked to smell my dinner and said my chicken was very off and I should throw the dinner in the bin.
Fresh milk tastes sour to me, so I have to leave it in the fridge for a couple of days before I use it. To me milk is sour when it comes out in lumps.
My whole family say I have cast iron guts!! lol
I guess my body has adapted over the years so that I don't get food poisoning
My Dad was known by family and friends for his poor sense of smell and his "cast iron stomach". He would finish off an open can of baked beans that had been left on the wood stove the previous weekend! His paternal Grandparents were from Dorset! Maybe there is a cast iron stomach gene common in the area?

There is a link to a causative to this condition - a great medicine that knocked out most colds called Zicam was later pulled by the FDA for this reason... if I recall, it is the zinc in the spray that is supposed to cause the issue of "loss of the ability to smell."
Zicam worked for me more than once... I cannot "smell" like I seemed to when I was young. Maybe its only a result of getting older, but my step-daughter, who used Zicam when young says she lost her sense of smell completely (she is 22).

Interesting. I used to have an incredible sense of smell, in the last couple years though it has waned to the point I am getting concerned ... I have no idea what is causing this, but I do have some mild sinus issues that seemed to have started around the same time, but they have been mild enough I haven't bothered to see a doctor about it. Might be related, I guess.

This thread and the post above #5 from DeDukshyn is a reminder for me of the time I got a serious sinus infection in the late 1980’s. Prior to this my sense of smell was okay, pretty normal I would guess. The sinus infection at that time took some shifting (at least a week) if I recall correctly and only cleared up after constant (two or three times per day) inhaling Friars balsam in hot water with a towel over my head. After it cleared up my sense of smell was virtually non-existent.
The funny thing is I started doing water fasting in February 2018 after following Bill’s water fasting thread and I think it was day 5 of the fast that I noticed I could smell Chlorine when I turned on the water tap at home and when I was in the shower. My sense of smell is now fine, I can smell those BBQ aromas when neighbours are cooking outside. The water fasting regime also improved my hearing and eyesight too…..cannot recommend it enough.

My problems started with sinus problems too!
You should get it checked out with your doctor (check to see if you have any polyps up yer nose)

Well, I had black stuff mixed in with nasal phlegm this morning ... and a small weird black growth that seemed to be growing out of my elbow that was rather hard to remove ... I think I may be overrun with fungi of some sort ... I better get this checked out.
