Matthew Crawford: the dangers of Safetyism
Freddie Sayers speaks to Matthew Crawford, a motorcycle mechanic turned philosopher with a unique perspective on the current moment. Instead of talking in terms of partisan politics, he talks in terms of lived experience and what a good life feels like. I’ve been a fan since his first book, and was delighted to have this wide-ranging conversation about risk, autonomy and and the new politics.
His is one of the few voices that could appeal equally to a Californian surfer and a midwestern religious conservative. Have a watch.

Here's a good satirical bit, if I may inject some related humour?
"... And the only thing I need to sacrifice is my freedom, human connection, adventure, and my human sovereignty!"

That was fun DeDukshyn.
The video above very intellectual but the points made are true.
They tried to make kids play areas ultra safe and do you know what -- the kids stopped playing there.
We need that bit of a challenge to expand our abilities and overcome fear.
There was a fim I cant remember the full title " Some town women" the ladies were turned into man pleasing robots ---"Yes dear" to everything.
"Im just here to serve you" how boring.
The video worth watching

Its added to my playlist :) I have no doubt I will fully agree with the sentiment. Being "intelligent" about what you do is one thing ... forcing "safe" onto people does nothing but projects an ideology onto people that people do not have the ability to be responsible for their actions. People naturally don't like being talked down to like that, it removes the freedom of their own ability to make themselves and their family actually safe.
What we have come to term "safety", and freedom, in many ways are opposites. It is of no doubt that humans want to automatically reject "safety".
And I only learned to overcome my fears by facing them head on - that is only how anyone overcomes their fears ... but we all know who wants to maximize those fears to their benefit. :)

"The demands of competence give way to a 'promise' of safety and convenience" --- brilliant summary right there.
I like this guy, reminds me a bit of how Daniel Schmachetnberger expresses himself. Very intelligent viewpoint.
