Nietzsche eerily predicts the postmodern, social justice ethos that's destroying our culture today.
It's uncanny how he describes, in perfect detail, the diabolicism of the resentful individual and the manner in which he/she cloaks their hate in compassion and love in order to reduce those they envy the most.
He describes how the morally weak become dangerous, and ultimately destructive. It's never been more relevant than it is now.

I like the reference to the Shakespeare play, highlights how it’s a universal character type that’s always been part of the human psyche.
Wilhelm Reich also wrote a book on the archetype in his “Listen, Little Man (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Listen-Little-Noonday-Wilhelm-Reich/dp/0374504016)”
Listen, Little Man! is a great physician's quiet talk to each one of us, the average human being, the Little Man. Written in 1946 in answer to the gossip and defamation that plagued his remarkable career, it tells how Reich watched, at first naively, then with amazement, and finally with horror, at what the Little Man does to himself; how he suffers and rebels; how he esteems his enemies and murders his friends; how, wherever he gains power as a "representative of the people," he misuses this power and makes it crueler than the power it has supplanted.
Reich has us to look honestly at ourselves and to assume responsibility for our lives and for the great untapped potential that lies in the depth of human nature.
Some more choice quotes to describe the archetype:
"In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to."

“From the many books I’ve read on the implementation of the communist ideology in various countries, there was always a quite obvious inversion of reality. Falsehood was lofted as the utmost ideal, while the communist elite and media apparatchik claimed to be the sole purveyors of Truth; however, Truth was never spoken by them. This caused an immense amount of confusion and cognitive dissonance, ultimately creating a sort of madness in the brainwashed masses. It’s also a form of gaslighting, psychological abuse, to be aware (consciously or even subconsciously) that the reality that you know as truth is being told to you is actually false, and that the inversion of that is what you are being forced into believing through repetitious mind control. For many who lived under this nefarious and malignant system, they submitted psychologically and mentally out of frustration, a sense of helplessness, a feeling that no matter what they say, the liars at the top hold all power over the reality they create and forged into them.
Some, who became truth-telling dissidents, created unique code-words to circumvent the false system (think of how Jesus used parables to speak certain truths).
There will always rise up a system of tyrants, we’ve seen these pathetic power hungry dullards rise and fall numerous times throughout history. In the end, it’s up to each of us whether or not we will play by their ritualized system of tyranny.“

“A man who lies to himself, and believes his own lies, becomes unable to recognize truth, either in himself or in anyone else, and he ends up losing respect for himself and for others. When he has no respect for anyone, he can no longer love, and in him, he yields to his impulses, indulges in the lowest form of pleasure, and behaves in the end like an animal in satisfying his vices. And it all comes from lying — to others and to yourself.”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_Party
The (nazi) party aimed to unite "racially desirable" Germans as national comrades, while excluding those deemed to be political dissidents, physically or intellectually inferior, or of a foreign race.
Dare I say we are witnessing/experiencing the global rise of a copycat nazi party with the "foreign race" being those assigned into the pool of "white privilege" because they won't self flaggelate for crimes they did not commit and they won't surrender to social justice warriors by bending the knee for them.
I shudder to think where we will be in another generation if this madness doesn't wake up to itself.
Perhaps Millenials and Centennials have taken an allegiance to heroine (turned monster) Daenarys Targaryen from Game of Thrones too literally and are now burning thousands of innocent people because they are drunk on power and too immature to know how to use it wisely.
Where's Jon Snow when ya need him.

Thanks for those excellent references. I find it hard to fully understand how people can give up their common sense in such huge numbers, submit to and support the inversion of reality all around us. The 'health' industry pushes disease and death; the bankers are robbers; modern democracies are anything but and politicians do anything but the will of the people; most public schools do anything but educate.... and in the face of the many other assaults on humanity, people become little dictators standing in doorways to make sure everyone uses hand sanitizer. It is just mad. Nietzsche and Reich saw so clearly how we can descend into being puppets (muppets).
Wilhelm Reich is seldom mentioned these days but was such a leader in the alternative health field, hence his ignominious end in a US prison and all his inventions smashed and/or stolen. Like so many other pioneers. On a sunny day I sometimes lay on a grassy spot and look at the "blue bions" dancing in the air against blue sky, and think of him.

Wilhelm Reich used such terms as "political correctness" and "gaslighting?'

Thanks for that, I thought it was excellent, I'm going to look out for more Stephen Hicks.
Indeed Nietzsche is extremely prescient for our times.
