My spidey senses tell me this claptrap about us being "chosen ones" is designed to appeal to already-fragile egos of the gullible and dumbed-down.

Tom Hanks is reading from a script. Like many people that get paid to parrot the words of others, he doesn't believe his words.

When politicians mandate & celebrities like Tom Hanks propagandize for them, we should think and tread carefully.

As Frank Zappa once said:

Movements are always the same. You get some windbag who wants to say his philosophy and he tries to make other people believe in it.

And there's always going to be some people who want to believe in it, and they go along with the movement and eventually the movement falls apart, the people who believed in it turn out to be fools, the people who led the movement turn out to be fools.

Another movement comes along, some other fool stands up, some more fools follow him. Y'know, it keeps going. Movements suck. They're stupid.

The speech is the commencement address at Wright State University, Fairborn, Ohio. In that context, what is said in this speech that should make one alarmist? What distinguishes it from the normal boring commencement speech given by a celebrity (other than the fact that there is no audience this year, as it is at every college in 2020.)

From: https://webapp2.wright.edu/web1/newsroom/2020/05/02/academy-award-winning-actor-tom-hanks-calls-wright-states-class-of-2020-the-chosen-ones/

Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks paid a personal tribute to Wright State University’s class of 2020, calling the graduates “the chosen ones” as they make their way through the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

Hanks delivered a five-minute video message that was played during a virtual ceremony on May 2 for students graduating from Wright State’s Department of Theatre, Dance and Motion Pictures.

In the video, Hanks said the students have been “chosen” in many ways, including because of their ability to overcome the challenges of the times.

“You are the chosen ones because of a fate unimagined when you began your Wright State adventures,” said Hanks. “You started in the olden times, in a world back before the Great Pandemic of 2020. You will talk of those earlier years in your lives in just that way.”

Hanks said the students are finishing their Wright State careers during “the great reset, the great reboot.”

“You’ve gone from student to graduate with more that is expected of you than to just be an American,” he said. “You’ve had to be responsible Americans. You’ve had to be good Americans — good Americans that have made sacrifices that have saved lives.”

Hanks told the students they will be enlightened in ways their degrees from Wright State never held in promise.

“You will have made it through the time of great sacrifice and great need,” he said. “And no one will be more fresh to the task of restarting our measure of normalcy than you — you chosen ones.”

Why is there a need for anyone to be the 'chosen ones'? That is an ingrained elitist mentality. In the long run I've never seen that play out for the good of mankind.

Elitism is the worse sort of blindness because they do not even see it. Maybe they saw it at one time but quickly brushed aside the idea as it did not fit their vision for success.

Just goes to show that Hollywood will build up a public persona of people like Tom Hanks but there is most certainly ulterior motives in those effort. Tom Hanks may think he is in control but that is not what I see in him.

Yes New World Order
Im suspicious of those media people who are very quick to be dying and recovering from the virus Boris Johnston included.
A great number of musicians performed for an introduce The Great Reset event.

“The Great Reset” will be the theme of a unique twin summit to be convened by the World Economic Forum in January 2021. In-person and virtual dialogues will address the need for a more fair, sustainable and resilient future, and a new social contract centred on human dignity, social justice and where societal progress does not fall behind economic development.

looks like he is sitting in a prison cell.

grey...like the world before Dorothy entered Oz
even for an accomplished actor, this presentation lacked sentiment, vitality and heart-felt conviction.
Perhaps the guy is just weary worn.
I tune out when I hear phrases like, "crossing the rubicon", "chosen ones"...

Very good point you make there. That's what I kind of subliminally picked up - with the stone backdrop, the grey clothing and Hanks' DIY hairdo, the whole thing seems drab, ugly and sterile. Not at all uplifting given the message about "chosen ones" he is trying to put across!
