A Google Earth user believes they have discovered a '400ft ice ship' lying 100 miles off the coast of Antarctica

In a YouTube video, they share images of the large mass of ice that lies to the south of New Zealand

It has a striking resemblance to a cruise liner with window lines and chimneys

It has sparked a string of conspiracy theories about what it could mean
Some claim it is a forgotten ship from a secret Nazi base on the continent

Other believe it is a secret vessel that will take the 'elite' away in the event of a global disaster or an alien space ship

To be honest, that looks like no ship I've ever seen, and having lived and worked on ships at sea I've seen a lot. The biggest problem is the keel (that part of the hull that sits below the waterline). It's curved strangely outward, bow and stern. And it's massive, it would have to have a huge draught for a keel that deep. The upper configuration doesn't look right either. It looks more like a toy boat that a kid might play with in the bath than a real ship.

I strongly suspect this is a normal chunk of ice, and pareidolia is playing her tricks again.

That is probably that lost Russian ship that had reindeer on it for food and they escaped and thrived and the rest died! That big hull says old Russian Ice breaker!

I had a look for myself on Google Earth. When I tracked back in time to view the object in earlier satellite images, I couldn't find anything that looked like a ship - only common icebergs.

This is just an iceberg that from certain angles looks like a ship - but not really (see previous post).

The most interesting take away for me here is how much more densely iced this area is compared to a decade ago. Global warming and all that...

In all the articles I've seen about this (and even in his video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leuY9x5xv7w) description), I'd not seen the coordinates. But I found them in the end (on the video itself), and here they are:

That's 75º24'26"S, 111º03'44"W.

The reason I wanted to know wasn't to look at the thing, but to check the altitude above sea level, which as far as I'm aware no-one has referred to. It's 2,680 ft up, or 817m. (That's actually on the screenshot as well, at the far right.)

It's also 66 miles (106 km) from the nearest coastline, though that will be iced up a great deal if not most of the time.

So — it's not a ship. :)

Wrong coordinates there Bill. The coordinates of this anomaly are 66°54'18.22"S 163°13'38.80"E. The elevation is -3m. It's sea ice anyway, off the coast of Buckle Island, so it approximately is sea-level.
