View Full Version : Touching The Divine

Life can be so dry and flat. So few have the energy or wherewithal to attempt to escape the gravity of standardism and really create some magic. Once in a while it happens though, and their expression, whatever it is, helps the rest of us thru another day.
This thread is for that type of magic.
It can be anything that removed you from yourself and raised you up to to something divine, or something more...and helped to create a feeling or feelings that you forgot you could have. It connected you, gave you hope, inspired you. It might be a song, an interview, a poem, a sport highlight, or whatever. It offered you a piece of something you didn't previously have, or you forgot you had, and reinvigorated you in some way.
This performance did this for me tonight. It's just remarkable. It moved me a little, jostled my spirit and reminded me that I'm still alive:

The famous 2012 live performance of Stairway to Heaven, by Ann and Nancy Wilson (Heart) with an orchestra and choir, before the living members of Led Zeppelin.
The best that's ever been done, including by Led Zeppelin themselves. Robert Plant is seen reduced to tears. :flower:
For anyone who's unaware of this, it's almost mandatory to see. :)

This song brings back some very powerful teenage memories for me. When I was a young reprobate teenager I’d sit it a recliner chair out at the back of the house (where the stereo was), at night with all the lights off, and listen to the studio (album) version of this track LOUD in full Dolby stereo, watching the lightning flashes from the springtime storms through the massive glass doors that opened on to our back yard. Our house was on the banks of a huge saltwater lagoon (North Manly, NSW, Australia), and the glow in the sky would reflect off this huge body of water. I might have not liked myself too much back then, but, oh boy, did I let my spirits soar when listening to this song, and indeed the whole album.
Many thanks, Star Mariner, for this post.

I went into deep meditation using hylotropic breathing and my cat jumped onto my lap. I didn't want to pull out of the trance state so I just let him settle down. Seconds later I went back into a past life and I was galloping bare back on my horse through rolling hills on an open plane. It was exhilarating and euphoric. I then felt the oneness that I am part of the all and thus part of the horse. Then I realized my cat Sam was my horse in his past life and we are here together again. Uncontrollable tears rolled down my face.

Matisyahu - One Day
WRmBChQjZPs
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
Sometimes I lay
Under the moon
And thank God I'm breathing
Then I pray
Don't take me soon
'Cause I am here for a reason
Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know some day it'll all turn around because...
All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
There will be no more wars
And our children will play
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
It's not about
Win or lose
'Cause we all lose
When they feed on the souls of the innocent
Blood-drenched pavement
Keep on moving though the waters stay raging
In this maze you can lose your way (your way)
It might drive you crazy but don't let it faze you, no way (no way)
Sometimes in my tears I drown (I drown)
But I never let it get me down (get me down)
So when negativity surrounds (surrounds)
I know some day it'll all turn around because...
All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
There will be no more wars
And our children will play
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
There will be no more wars
And our children will play
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day this all will change
Treat people the same
Stop with the violence
Down with the hate
One day this all will change
Treat people the same
Stop with the violence
Down with the hate
One day we'll all be free
And proud to be
Under the same sun
Singing songs of freedom like
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
There will be no more wars
And our children will play
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)

Out of sheer desperation and months of grief and sadness of my son’s death, I gave up and collapsed to the ground in the dead of winter.
No more tears came. No sobs. Only silence. I landed in the center of Blessed Silence. No need to think or wonder or feel. Nothing.
When I got up, I thought it snowed until I took a closer look. There were tiny, tiny feathers all around me. I don’t know how many I collected. Lots. When I checked, I watched them disappear in my hand like snowflakes. And as if on cue, the feathers that had outlined my body did the same.

Ave Maria Composed in 1825 by Franz Schubert, this 'Hymn to the Virgin' is one of the most popular Christmas compositions worldwide.
Ave Maria
Queen of Heaven
My prayer rises to you
I must find favor in your eyes
It's in you,
oh! It is in you that I hope
My son
Console my misery
He suffers
Alas he is dying
Understand and cry, you who were a mother
Give me back, give me back my poor child
Ave Maria
What happiness
The child is reborn at his prayer
As well as a brilliant flower
All well done!
Oh touching beauty!
This mystery
Look at me so that
I hope
My son, your forehead is smiling
Thank you, thank you divine
Mother It's you who save my child
Ave Maria

On June 14th, 2018, in honor of the historic visit to Israel by Indonesia’s religious leader Sheikh Haji Yahya Cholil Staquf, Koolulam invited 1,000 people who had never met before to a special event at the Tower of David in Jerusalem, to sing one song, in three languages and in three-part vocal harmony. The event was produced in conjunction with the Tower of David Museum and Jerusalem.Com.

My sister, a decade younger than me, said in tears today that she needs me, and that has sharpened all my human senses, to the highest value of sacrifice, by my simple realization that I am here for her as I am here for anyone.
If I have come this far in life, I could say, what is the difference or purpose other than to love unconditionally, especially in these difficult times (?)
Anyway, all is not lost! And I've been listening to this deeply for a few hours now.

This story may seem like nonsense to some and just my imagination, I understand that because it seems unreal to me. I have three cats and a dog. In my backyard I have large pine trees and a family of squirls. One squirl I call Hickory is amazing because he is fearless and runs down the tress bouncing his tail and teasing the animals into a frenzy. They play that game for hours. One of the cats is a stray I rescued and he's a bit feral. To my shock last week, I found Hickory dead on my bedroom floor, a gift from my cat. I have lost everyone I loved in my life so I’m not so good with loss. I picked the squirl up in tears I tried to heal him but realized quickly I had no gift for that. I felt very upset and restless and felt the need to walk. I walked rapidly down a wooded trail and nothing could shake my disturbed feeling. I stopped and suddenly realized there was a squirl staring at me on a branch two feet from my face. I just felt instantly what need to be done, I projected that feeling into the squirl, it bounced its tail and ran off. I felt and had this knowing that Hickory had loosely attached to my auric filed and found where he belonged. I was instantly happy and that weird odd restless feeling was gone. I had no grief over Hickory anymore and saw it was just the cycle of life.

Peace like a River was one of my absolute favorite songs from that album, it seems to capture the clandestine spirit of resistance which many of us have felt "You can beat us with wires, you can beat us with chains, you can run out your rules but you'll never out run the history train...I've seen the glorious day Ayyyee oo oo...Just magic! When I was traveling from South Korea, about twenty years ago, returning home after teaching English for a spell (not a good time in my life) this song appeared on the Singapore Airlines Radio show which was being piped through their entertainment system that month.
I was brought to tears, and I played it over and over again on that flight - it seemed to speak to me directly, and remind me of the growth and death of relationships, love gained and love lost. I am sorry if this seems maudlin, or mawkish!
This reawakened my emotional life, it was so powerful that it moved me from being half dead, to returning to my sense of self all over again, what a beautiful voice, an Angel.

The film Powder is powerful and evocative and sends chills up and down my spine whenever I watch it. It is the story of the realisation and illustration of what could be and what appears not to be. The video clip here shows the ending. The film also shows that if the Divine Consciousness is held by one then it ripples out to all around and changes happen.

Thank you, Mike. The short version is that I was in a bad place the night before my son’s burial. I muffled my screams in a pillow. No one answered my pleas to be buried with him. Then the darkened room filled with a beau-ti-ful blue.
My bedroom was stacked with packed up books. I tore threw a box and grabbed the “Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah". My son, Michael answered questions through the random pages I turned until peace and silence filled me.
http://paula.avalonlibrary.net/Love/Illusions.jpg
I was directed to go to my office which was two floors down. I pulled open the computer keyboard shelf and there was a feather. On the “Illusions" cover was a feather. It was an important turning point in the story of a teacher that died and he floated a feather down to his heartbroken student.
I preserved the precious gift in a transparent baseball envelop, and tucked it in my power bag. It brought me strength and assurance that Michael was but a thought away. A couple of days later the feather gift was gone.
That was the first of many feathers and phenomena for the next five months and continues today. They are confirmations that much is happening multidimensionally.
Each time, I am reminded how we are all an integral part of the flow in creativity and creation, even when we engage in daily activities. Like when I catch myself either stretching time out, or condensing a days worth of the to-do-list into a few hours.
Sooner than later, manifestation will be an ordinary way of life for us all. Life is creation. We just have to recall that it’s our birthright and become an active participant in its flow.

I agree and feel that my job is ONLY to release the blocks to the TECHNOLOGY of THE SACRED. Intelligent Infinity trumps EVERYTHING we think is true. To be shifted out of what we have already manifested takes some UNDOING. IMO all I need to experience MORE magic and mystery is allow THE FORCE who knows me, loves me, and will bring signs and wonders to work. It is MUCH harder to let go when we imagine the confines we are in are "GOOD". IMO that is the only catch. We have to continuously tune in to a seemingly silent station and OFTEN we refuse.
I love the opportunity now to change octaves. IT IS REALLY POSSIBLE!

I heard this song in the gym today, and I was reminded how magical it is. It's just a lovely, brilliant song. In it's beautiful simplicity, it is almost the perfect song. I've listened to it repetitively since I've been home, and I can't get over how genius it is. It gave me that feeling of awe and wonder that seems so elusive for me these days. There isn't the slightest bit of ornament or pretense to the lines. It just is. It moves me. A very simple, straightforward, brilliant little song:

This song gave me goosebumps when I first heard it, so that's a signal that it connected me with the divine, or something beyond myself. It's what separates it from other songs that I really like. Well I'm in the yellow page

I've watched a million fights over the years and this one is the best, hands down. I have a strange emotional reaction to it every time, especially round 5. Goosebumps, arm hair standing up, the whole bit. This fight will take you places you've never been. It's a spiritual experience. It's simply spectacular:

There is something about this short clip that reminds people that it is not about money, cars, job, choices or even relationships...............it is about being in the moment.

I'm not big on live music usually. Hate crowds. I've only been to 2 or 3 big shows in my life. Didn't particularly enjoy them. The music usually lets me down in some way too, as it very rarely sounds like the album. I'm an album guy, and music is personal to me - I like listening when I'm on my own.
And I'm hardly a huge Metallica fan, though I do appreciate what they bring to the table. They do what they do well. This performance of 'Enter Sandman', in Moscow, 1991, is the most remarkable live performance I've ever seen. The crowd stretches for miles in every direction, and the energy produced is atomic. Helicopters are circling above and soldiers are guarding the stage..some even ditching their uniforms to join the crowd. It's absolute mayhem, in the most glorious sort of way. I've never seen anything even remotely like it. It's a sight to behold:

Good call on Metallica, but generally speaking - same here. I've only been to a handful of big gigs too, and I found them hot, stuffy, and oppressive. I couldn't wait to get out and drive home. But there is one live performer that stands head, shoulders, and torso above just about every other that has ever existed. I had a chance of going to see this very gig (below) but missed it. My brother went but I didn't! I don't really do 'regrets', but yeh hand on heart, one big regret I do have is that I never did see them, never did see him, live.

This track for me (written by Brian May - an astrophysicist!) and from that same gig, perfectly meets the conditions of the thread title:

In a time before YouTube in the first half of the 00-years I still collected lots of (as a musician and one who also went a lot to concerts back then) Live Music Concert DVDs. Two of my all time favourites are the ones who document what Peter Gabriel did on his Secret World and (10 years later) Growing Up tour. I was watching these two endlessly and while doing so always felt 'connected' to something Greater. It put me into an altered state of consciousness. In both cases the entire (conceptually designed) show is worth watching from an artistic and visual perspective too, not just musically. The entire package thus remained 'divine' for me to this very day.
Hard to choose from the many good clips on YT nowadays from these two DVDs, so I took three. Compare the two versions:

As the 2nd video shows, for me 'Secret World live' also had the best official ending of a show (before the encores that is). And it also had the best concert opener with PG singing from a typical red British phone booth. Priceless.

This song is pure magic. Genius. I don't understand the lyrics intellectually, but my heart understands them just fine. A direct line to the divine..
"...you gotta cry without weepin, talk without speakin, scream without raising your voice...you know i took the poison, from the poison stream...then i floated... outta here..."
This song'll help you touch the divine. Wow, what a gem. Kinda hopeful and sad. Just heard it for the first time and it really moved me. Acoustic number by Noel Gallagher. One a those you'd take to a desert island, for sure.

Once upon a time I talk to a beautiful woman about the power of music...
Specially when you listen it for the first time, with no connection to nothing in your life ...no memories at all...and then
magic happens!
I played, gone for a drink, when I came back she got heavy tears on her face...it touched her soul!
She was complete immersed in something she could not get a grip yet...
Her first words were the title from the CD "The space between us"...
