Facebook’s ‘independent’ Fact-checking Certifier Exposed as Hillary Clinton Supporter

An outspoken Twitter activist critical of Donald Trump who brags about being on “team” Hillary Clinton is the supposedly independent expert in charge of who can become a Facebook fact-checker. Facebook fact-checkers have extraordinary powers to censor news stories they disagree with, demonetize news organisations and ban news outlets entirely.

The process of becoming a fact-checker is described as “non-partisan” by Facebook but a Sky News Australia investigation has uncovered disturbing evidence of political bias and lack of accountability at the top levels of the certification process.

International Fact-Checking Network certifier and American University School of Communication professor Margot Susca is unashamedly politically biased but she was responsible for issuing 19 fact-check licenses or reviews for organisations to become fact-checkers. This includes the Associated Press, Check Your Fact, Decrypteurs, Lead Stories, Media Wise and The Dispatch.

Ms Susca has appeared on propaganda network Russia Today to criticise President Trump and has tweeted that it would be a “dereliction of duty” to broadcast his speeches. In 2019 Ms Susca posted a happy snap with failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton where she admitted “I’ve been on Team Hillary since 08 tbh” and said she was disappointed her likability did not resonate with the public in 2016.

“My boyfriend was her nuclear policy fellow for a year when she was in the Senate,” she wrote. “Says she’s the smartest, wittiest, most likeable person. It just never came through I guess. So Fcking sad.” Ms Susca also retweeted content that said: “A projected Joe Biden Win won’t erase the racism shown by Donald Trump and embraced by nearly half of the country’s electorate.”

In one of her several appearances on Russia Today, Ms Susca, admits that she cannot be objective about President Trump. “It is hard for me to be an objective observer of this presidential administration when for years now they have continuously tried to delegitimise and marginalise news reporters for doing their constitutionally protected job,” Ms Susca said. However, despite her public political activism Ms Susca holds a key position with the International Fact-Checking Network which allows her to grant fact-checking licenses and audit decisions.

Ms Susca was also the person who granted Australia’s left-wing opinion website The Conversation a license to become a fact-checker in May, 2018. That license has since expired. Sky News Australia asked Ms Susca a series of questions about whether the public could have faith in her ability to be objective or whether she felt appearing on Russia Today hurt her credibility. Ms Susca described the questions as “threatening”. “Are you independent of Comcast or Sky’s executives,” she said in her response.

“Look at your own ownership and ethics before you threaten others working on these crucial issues and charge that they lack independence and a commitment to truth. Your email was meant to be threatening and, quite frankly, I find its tone abhorrent. “I’ve worked in journalism or media for decades so your accusation that I don’t take it seriously is egregious and you should be ashamed of yourself.”

Ms Susca said her tweets were not a display of bias but a “call for news organizations to do fact-based journalism to help average citizens govern themselves in a democracy”. “I think you’re starting off from a place of bad faith and you are, quite frankly, missing the point of the tweets specifically and my work generally,” she said. Fact-checkers certified by the International Fact-Checking Network are not automatically allowed to police Facebook content but Facebook only subcontracts organisations granted a certification by supposedly independent experts such as Ms Sucsa.

Sky News is not alleging Ms Susca acted improperly when certifying organisations, only that she may not meet the standards in the IFCN’s own Code of Principles which require fact-checkers themselves to be objective and not publicly support a political candidate.

The IFCN Code of Principles states a fact-checker must not be “affiliated with nor declares or shows support for any party, any politician or political candidate, nor does it advocate for or against any policy positions on any issues save for transparency and accuracy in public debate.”

Facebook partnered with the International Fact-Checking Network after the group wrote an open letter to Mark Zuckerberg complaining that the 2016 US election was influenced by misinformation on Facebook. Facebook claims the International Fact-Checking Network group is “non-partisan”.

Never assume anything (any claim) just because you think it is possible ... always ask for verification from multiple independent sources ... Why? ... Because there ARE many trolls of all types posing as "activists" spreading dis-info on purpose ... Then when repeated & spread by gullible people they LOVE that and their mission is 100% successful to discredit anyone questioning the stat quo. As "fact checkers" use that to show how "good" they are in exposing the false dis-info blindly trusted by some people NOT having the time to check what the spread around. I once fact-checked if Hillary Clinton took over $200K of furnishing out of the White House after Bill left office. I checked it on Snopes and they listed it as "somewhat true." In my mind, it was either true or not but Snopes felt compelled to give an 8-page explanation. After reading the 8 pages it was apparent that Hillary and Bill were guilty but Snopes did their best to mitigate the damage and bad press this classless act was causing. That was the day that I realized that fact-checkers had a political agenda and were indistinguishable from the mainstream media. Fact-checkers are simply damaged control for a political party and they provide cover for the mainstream media. I also believe that I read somewhere that the people that run Snopes are friends of the Clintons.

FB, Google, and Twitter are no different, they have strong political agendas that became crystal clear during the 2020 election. By the way, they would welcome government control and Zuckerburg has even asked for it. That request would seem counter-intuitive but when you think about it, it would secure their monopolies for all time by limiting or stopping new entrants into the market.

Snopes (https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/hillary-clinton-stole-white-house-furniture/) - They have changed their page to now show the Clinton furniture fiasco as mostly false but if you read the explanation they are guilty. Mostly false is akin to mostly pregnant, you either are or you aren't there is no middle ground.

China-Funded Facebook Fact-Checker Is Now Censoring Criticism Of Its Fake Fact Checks

Facebook is censoring criticism of a fake fact-check published by an “independent fact-checker,” who is bankrolled by both China and Big Tech.

The Federalist published a piece Monday headlined, “The Georgia Vote-Counting Video Was Not ‘Debunked.’ Not Even Close,” (https://thefederalist.com/2020/12/07/no-the-georgia-vote-counting-video-was-not-debunked-not-even-close/) by Federalist Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway, which investigates how one of Facebook’s designated fact-checkers supposedly debunked claims related to an explosive video corroborating Republican charges of election fraud in Georgia.

Moments before the post was published on Facebook however, the company released a notification to users that the post had been flagged for misinformation based on a supposed “fact-check” by one of its third-party fact-checkers, LeadStories.

According to LeadStories, which relies (https://leadstories.com/about.html) on funding from a mix of Silicon Valley tech giants Google and Facebook in addition to Chinese-operated ByteDance headquartered in Beijing, allegations of unmonitored ballot-counting in Georgia based on footage released last week supporting Republicans’ timeline of events bear no merit.

Hemingway pointed out (https://thefederalist.com/2020/12/07/no-the-georgia-vote-counting-video-was-not-debunked-not-even-close/) in the censored article serving as a fact-check to the fact-check, that LeadStories merely regurgitated talking points from government officials that fly in the face of sworn affidavits (https://beta.documentcloud.org/documents/20420331-mitchell-harrison-affidavit) from Republican observers and contemporaneous news accounts that corroborate to the point Republican charges that poll-watchers were told counting had ceased at one polling site while officials kept counting, which is illegal.

As seen in the 12-minute video below, observers exited the room before officials appeared to open a series of trunks filled with ballots in Fulton County, raising questions that the process didn’t facilitate a fair and free election in a state decided by less than 13,000 votes.

While LeadStories accurately spells out that state election officials have dismissed the charges that the video purports to show ballot fraud, Facebook’s arbiter of truth offers nothing more than government claims.

The explosive video, meanwhile, matches election day reporting from Republicans and legacy outlets that observers were led out of the room on election night.

Hemingway’s piece relying on contemporaneous news accounts and legal filings to critique LeadStories’ dubious fact-check elevated as the final word on the issue in the 21st century public square however, is flagged as censored by an “independent fact-checker,” because they disagree with it.

Well, son of a bitch! We are all cynics now, or should be.
Isn't it interesting how we are being manipulated today. I'm talking about an intention to divide & conquer.
It seems like several diversions are happening here at the same time. They are related, and they are divisive.
It's the end of 2020, and here we are we are taking sides on things, some that didn't even exist (in our awareness) not so long ago. We even find ourselves with strange new bed fellows (for me it's certain conservatives) and also recently estranged from some of our old, once beloved hero's, like Naomi Kline. (oh but she still looks pretty good : )-
Another thought occurs here - maybe some of our hero's always were, in reality, "controlled opposition". In other words, serving the empire, and not truly being what we thought they were, "warriors for justice". On top of that, I am finding that this whole "scamdemic" thing is as at least as polarizing as the wicked zionist oppression (occupied Palestine, aka israel). But wait there's more, "our" (but not mine) offensively belligerent, downright embarrassing, even pitiful bullying of Latin America, Asia, and much of the middle east, etc. etc. Such horse puckey!
I don't like the obvious dishonesty, the piracy, and murder.
That's what we have been doing all these years - count the bodies, and we actually celebrate this! (amazing - perverse!!)
There are web sites that I will no longer visit, writers I no longer read, because those two critical issues seem to go together, and have outed several of my own past favorites including Kline - all of them liberals, Democrats, "covidians". It's really uncomfortable for me, but I will count this as a growing experience.(positive spin)
My observation - we are not only sleepy sheep, we are drugged lemmings - I mean no offense to either of those two species, fellow travelers on our fractional speck dust in this infinite universe. I just don't find anything reassuringly real in any of this kamikaze, hair on fire, silly ass hysteria, whether it's over epidemics, or over enemies of freedom and democracy(ha ha).
This whole beast is cancerous, and that leaves nothing to salvage, and certainly "nothing to die for"(J.Lennon). I won't waste any more time with silly jingoistic, hero warrior, comic book mythology, or at the opposite end, self righteous, dubious liberal propaganda. Nothing is real.
The wheel needs to be completely reinvented, disposed of and replaced with an entirely new creation. We'll never get anywhere trying to resurrect the freakin' dead carcass of what was always just a myth anyway.

So if preserving these supposedly selfish, but clearly important things requires aggressively taking sides, you can count on it - I will absolutely do so - I'm no pacifist where those things are concerned.... but philosophically, I will always consider myself to be a sovereign fraction of this Cosmos.....and sure as **** not the member/follower of some imaginary tribe, or made up creed, historically led by corrupt devious men, a thing ultimately designed to serve their own sketchy interests, but not me, not mine, nor yours. Theirs.
Beyond some urgent intermediate practicality here, or finding obvious potential usefulness in preserving this existence (staying alive), we should start thinking, and try to learn what it will take to no longer serve the old masters, and their obsolete paradigm..
