Aliens pretending to be friendly come to Earth and are received openly. The aliens have disguised themselves to look just like humans. When it is discovered that the aliens' planet is dying and that they have come to rape the Earth of its natural resources, the war for Earth begins. An important key to the humans' success is distinguishing their own from who the aliens are.

The original TV broadcast was in 4:3 full-screen, while the DVD release is in matted 16:9 widescreen. The mini-series was filmed in open matte, with director Kenneth Johnson stating he had composed the picture to be more or less "widescreen-safe" in the event of an overseas theatrical release. Comparing the two, the 16:9 format does not just crop the top and bottom of the 4:3 format, but also includes some additional image on the sides that wasn't originally visible.

According to the New York Times, the miniseries reportedly cost $13 million to make.

It is time for a re-run or Re-boot. V of 2009 version was pretty good. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1307824/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Great scenes of eating critters...and the alien with the tail that came from no-where and killed as needed.

Aren't we do for another up-to-date version?!?! yes, please!!

The 2009 version had some of the worst CGI I have ever seen but I did like that the actor from firefly Morena Baccarin was on it.

I saw the original many years ago as a kid and rewatched it or the end of it few years ago, maybe inspired by the 2009 remake because I wanted to compare it and remembered how I found the original back then very intriguing.

This reboot show contained the usual ingredients of our "new TV age" (more violence and sex, of course...). I thought in the end that it had been rather bad and dull, and was not sad about the fact that they cancelled the show after two seasons.
