View Full Version : Turmoil in Armenia

Many North Americans (and maybe Europeans and Australians!) might have trouble pinpointing Armenia on a map. Here it is:

https://projectavalon.net/Armenia_map.gif

This small, beautiful country has a rich cultural history, and recently, a history featuring several generations of continued bloody conflict.

A couple of days ago, a peace treaty was brokered by Vladimir Putin between Armenia and Azerbaijan. European and American media may barely have mentioned this, and likely not at all. But RT and Al Jazeerah are a little more reliable for broad-spectrum global news reporting.

Here are two articles:

In first meeting since bloody 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, Putin brings together leaders of Armenia & Azerbaijan for Moscow talks
https://rt.com/russia/512172-meeting-putin-armenia-azerbaijan

Nagorno-Karabakh: Russia’s Putin hosts Azeri, Armenian leaders
https://aljazeera.com/news/2021/1/11/putin-hosts-armenian-azerbaijani-leaders-for-talks-in-russia (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/1/11/putin-hosts-armenian-azerbaijani-leaders-for-talks-in-russia)

And, for what it's worth, there's a background piece by the BBC, published a couple months ago:

Armenia-Azerbaijan: Why did Nagorno-Karabakh spark a conflict
https://bbc.com/news/world-europe-54324772 (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54324772)

And this video, also from November, may say more.

This new thread was prompted by a dialog I had with delightful new member Inna (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/member.php?47532-Inna), who's young, professional, well-educated, and whose English is excellent. She is aghast at what's happened to her country, and was kind enough to ask me for my opinion.

I was only able to reply in broad-spectrum global terms: that in the dark interests of 'globalism', there's a steady high-level juggernaut-like push for the obliteration of many small independent nations and cultures.

I'm barely qualified to share any comment on the affairs or history of this particular region, but all I can offer is the creation of a thread for Inna (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/member.php?47532-Inna) to post on and educate many of us just a little more.

In closing, I can say just a couple of things, maybe:

North Americans and Europeans may need to be reminded that there's a lot else going on in the world that deeply affects the lives and futures of many millions of good people.
Humanity is still primitive, tribal, violent and self-serving in so, so many ways.

I am greatful to Mr. Ryan for his support.
As nobody talked about the unjustice that continues till nowadays in Armenia I' ll share a little information about it.
The history of Armenia for last 100 years is full of massacres. In 1915 turks and kurds of the Ottoman Empire exterminated 1,5 million of Armenians and made them dissapear from their ethnic territorries. Those territories include the eastern part of of modern Turkey. In 1921 Nakhijevan and Artsakh which are both Armenian ethnic territories were given to another type of turks-Azerbaijan. In both cases it was scripted by the so-called Masonry and it's highest representatives.
The next massacre was from 1988 to 1994 and was done by Azerbaijan. My family also was a victim, as removed during those massacres to another part of Armenia, so I know how does it affect.
The next massacre was from 27. 09. 2020 to 9. 11. 2020 as the escalation of the war started, as a result the land of my ancestors- Artsakh was given to azeris. Then the government of Armenia, which is under control of George Soros and other representatives of the "elite" started selling territories of Armenia to Azebaijan. I am afraid of any news, as every day they give armenian territories without war.
To prove my statement about those people who are scripting these nightmares I will mention their predictive programming that was made in Lady Gaga's mv 911, which was released almost 10 days before the start of war and had the hidden description of the war.

I was listening last week to an old interview by Vahan Setyan on the Armenian roots of civilisation. Armenia used to extend much further than its present borders and included the area where Gobekli Tepe stands.

Vahan Setyan believes that Armenian history has been repressed and largely destroyed, and that elements of the Armenian language can be seen in Basque and Sanskrit. I do wonder if the significance of Armenia in history could be a reason for the suppression of its people and their history. I have been aware of the Armenian genocides since I had a conversation with an Armenian lady in 1980, but whenever I have mentioned this to people, they have no idea that it happened.

You are definitely right. The more I am digging the more ancient roots of Armenia appear. I think the owners of the world are killing Armenians in some genetical reasons. They want to destroy Qarahunj observatory and Tatev monastery. The clue to the true history of humanity is somewhere near armenian history.

My dear Inna,
My name is Anca and I am from Romania.
Thank you for your courage and strength!

I'm sorry for all the events in your country. I know that fear is not an option when you stand in front of the enemy, and your people have suffered greatly under oppression on all sides. I know the history extensively, I watched the events, in this evening I read even more about how deep your culture goes, which is interesting and very relevant but especially true.

First of all, I want to express my regret and at the same time the most sincere honor for all the lives lost in the conflict and for all the suffering of civilians.
I just wanted you to know that I also come from a country where all the battles and wars were fought hard but with holiness and love of country, all our wars were always only for defense, just like yours there. I know that you all are very open and peaceful people, happy and lovers of life and justice.

I am proud to admit that I know the story about the Armenian Community in Romania, but especially proud that my country, in 1915, received many Armenians in its soul and home. The Armenian community made its presence felt on the Romanian territory more than eight centuries ago. Persecuted by the Turks then, tens of thousands of Armenians migrated en masse to our country, especially after 1915.

Even if I do not live there, I want you to know that I am with your heart for your justice, for your freedom and your right to Life and History.
In 1923, after the genocide against the Armenians, in the Port of Constanta city in Romania, 198 orphaned children arrived

Looking at these photos again tonight, I know I can't stay whole in front of them, something in me breaks for such great suffering.

I am so sorry that you find yourself as a territory in the sphere of interests and influence of several opponents who in other "theaters" are together ... such a chaos created and sustained says a lot about the holy beautiful location.

The community of Armenians in Romania with people of good faith has integrated very well, all Romanians participate with absolute pleasure in the Armenian holidays.

Please don't be afraid Inna. In these times, maybe "someone" thought of "intensifying" the negative events, just assuming that your Country is used to fear and that there should be a more "serious" reason for fear , so they probably "appealed" to the meaning of your symbols.
But no one knows that your faith and history live alive in the blood of you and in those who sacrificed themselves. The imprint of the soul and of tradition and culture cannot be erased even with death, I pray for the survival of all your values and especially of generations and people and soldiers.

Wishing for peace :flower:
with deep respect,
Anca

Armenians Displaced By Post War Demarcations
20 Jan, 2021

Some villages have been divided in two by new boundaries.

Armenian officials warn that citizens within the state borders of Armenia risk displacement due to the arbitrary way post-ceasefire boundaries are being designated.

As well as parts of Karabakh, the November 9 deal transfers seven regions surrounding the breakaway republic back to Azerbaijan.

It remains unclear how the border is being decided, given large discrepancies between Soviet-era demarcations -- when such internal boundaries were largely meaningless -- and current facts on the ground.

So far, demarcations in the southern and northern regions of Syunik and Gegharkuniq have reportedly been carried out by Azerbaijani officials using GPS or Google maps, with military personnel dispatched to tell locals that they had to leave their land and homes.

Human rights ombudsman Arman Tatoyan told reporters on January 12 that the demarcation process was violating the rights of Armenian citizens as well as impinging on the country's internationally recognised borders.

He pointed to specific examples of cases under dispute, for instance in the village of Shurnukh in Syunik, now divided by a narrow road into an Armenian and an Azerbaijani part. One villager he named as Styopa Movsisyan had had his home and farm split between the two.

"Border demarcation without proper research and working commissions is a violation of international law," Tatoyan said.

Tatoyan highlighted other cases in Shurnukh, Vorotan, Agarak Yeghvard and elsewhere in which locals had lost both their homes and hundreds of acres of agricultural land. In Gegharkunik, investors also lost property including the Sotk gold mine, most of it now under Azerbaijani control.

He said that all those concerned had the right to compensation from the Azerbaijani authorities.

Shurnukh village chief Hakob Arshakyan said that 12 families -- comprising 37 people - had been displaced, all of whom had property certificates issued by the administrative headquarters in Goris during the Soviet era.

He said that the villagers had complained to officials in Yerevan as well as local lawmakers.

In late December, Armenian prime minister Nikol Pashinyan travelled to Syunik to meet residents and was met by furious protestors.

Narek Ghahramanyan, a lawmaker from the ruling My Step party, who comes from Syunik and represents the area, said that he saw no human rights violations inherent in the demarcations.

"Those are state borders, ratified by the Republic of Armenia's National Assembly back in 2010. Who violated their rights? The border?" he asked.

Tigran Khzmalyan, co-chair of the European party of Armenia, said that the demarcation was provisional and that the issue could eventually be brought back into the circle of international law and Minsk Group.

"I reiterated more than once that Putin was working in collusion with the Azeris and especially Turks," he said. "That was a humiliating trade for us."

Political commentator Armen Chibukhchyan said that it was concerning Russia was willing to accede to Azerbaijani demands for control over Armenian territories and strategic positions.

"It raises eyebrows that the Russian president called that process a demarcation, but demarcations assume totally different procedures," he said, adding that introducing international rather than Russian peacekeepers into Karabkah would have reduced the risks of territorial loss and kept the Minsk Group more involved in the process.

Moscow, he continued, was consistently serving Azerbaijan's best interests "at our expense".

"Russia's attempt to share [its influence over] Azerbaijan with Ankara while consistently trying to avoid escalations with the latter will inevitably play down Armenian interests."

I've seen the argument made that the people who managed to leave Phoenicia and set up empires in Rome, Venice, The Netherlands, UK, USA etc. had a longstanding rivalry and hatred with the peoples of Armenia and they've maintained that hatred. This being the motivation behind the genocide at the start of the 20th century and the present day troubles also.

I can't recall the source unfortunately.

Here are the names of some chemical elements. The interesting fact is that each one of the Armenian alphabetic letters represent a numerical value. Now the sum of the numerical values of letters used to write the name of each element equals the Atomic Number of that element.

Did you find it on internet or somebody told you?
I know this, and it is true. I didn't mention it, because some people would think I am praising my nation or whatever. I am not sure whether they lived in Phoenicia, but they exactly were ancient "Egyptian priests" who weren't ethnically Egyptians. They spread around the world and formulated so called bloodlines and the top of them. They conquered the world by using unfair ways of wars, hunger, genocides, fake history etc. They still hate Armenians and try to get rid of us mostly by destroying Armenia from inside. They have a reason, it seems to be a huge importancy. If we reveal it and find out it will be better for the other nations, because I am sure that the same powers are going to harm and exterminate them also.

As the official history says they were formulated around 405 AD by Mesrop Mashtots, an Armenian linguist and ecclesiastical leader. I really doubt it, because I am sure that Armenian language is much older and maybe that person just took it back or it is a fake person from the fake history. I will post more interesting facts about Armenian language.

The pictures of the vessel are in this link.
A very curious vessel was discovered in the Bolivian province of Pocotia and kept in the State Museum of Bolivia, which for some reason was presented as "possibly Sumero-Akkadian". The inside of the vessel is covered with cuneiform inscriptions. But on the back part of the vessel there are letters of the Armenian alphabet Հ, Յ, Դ, Ռ, Ց, Չ, Ձ, Է, Ղ, Ո and a few crosses. There are no words or combinations of words, but there are Armenian letters. Officially this vessel is 5500 years old.

The 5th century is the most fruitful period of the old Armenian literature, which begins with the invention of the Armenian alphabet (405-406) by Mesrop Mashtots (Master, 360 / 361-440) who is a supreme titan of writing. In 407, the first book was translated into Armenian with Armenian letters, the Book of Proverbs of Solomon. The first sentence written in Armenian letters is:

ճանաչել զիմաստութիւն եւ զխրատ, իմանալ զբանս հանճարոյ
"To know wisdom and instruction, to know the words of the genius"

But that's just "history" your language began with oral songs and legends long before it was written (as in our country), many philologists say that the Armenian language could not have suddenly become so clear, strong, beautiful, with a perfect grammar, with a special power of elasticity, plastic and with a very rich vocabulary, than from the power of much older energies.:flower:

Even though many are looking, not everyone sees.
While others seek evidence with evidence, information flows freely in the blood of Armenians, something that can never be confiscated.

More than 160 years ago, more precisely in 1847, the writer Gheorghe Asachi printed in Romania, the first alphabet in the Armenian language entitled "The key to the reading of Mesrobian letters".
Although this is the first textbook published in the Romanian Lands, schools have existed since the 15th century in many monasteries that have studied the aspect of your language so beautiful Inna!

What I want to emphasize is that identity must be preserved through faith and language and the supremely incomparable mystical religious philosophical culture that is unattainable for many. I know how hard it is for those who want to break any ancestral faith.
That is why I support the ideal of the spirit of my language alive, I protect it every day, this being the spirit of the people I belong to.

Remain strong Inna, the wounds of Armenia and the tragic fate of the Armenian people for their liberation struggles, resonate all over the world Inna, is not a private show, it is the suffering of people and an ancestral history that was written nowhere but in the soul to the whole people, a freedom of the intangible cultural heritage and an epic of humanity in us, to be a good intention to stop the occupation and massacre.

When leaders such as "Prince Charles" and the prime ministers of Australia and New Zealand gather each year in April to commemorate the Battle of Gallipoli during World War I, the spirits of the 1.5 million butchered Christian Armenians they will march with them. A genocide of the twentieth century that few talk about and many forget.

I am writing here about the small crossing of Armenians with the history of a forgotten part of Romania, for example the Romanian writer Nicolae Iorga and prime minister who founded Armenian churches and communities in my country, said that:
"Armenians are hardworking, generous, pure, very open and kind, and bearers of a higher Eastern and Western civilization." I, for one, will never doubt your resistance!

If somebody is interested who and why is exterminating Armenians just read this interview of Lawrence of Arabia. He was a ****ty person (I am sorry for this phrase, but there is no other word to describe) who loved turks even after that they humiliated him severely, as he was a huge pervert. Why does he hate Armenians?
My conclusion is not only about that he had some Masonic and other background, but also about the part where he spoke about that if Armenians have lands they are able to rule the world etc. and Armenians are the same as Americans will be 1000 years later. Isn't it bothering?
How could a little country be compared with the USA?
Why that jerk hated Armenians and why is the same done nowadays?
I have some answers but they seem to be unreal, even though I believe it's true. I will share the theory one day, but not now.
I am not just saying as my family was out of those processes, because my ancestors left Western Armenia before the Genocide because of the danger and settled in other part of Armenia, but in the end of the century my family was obliged to live those native lands too, so it is not just a political issue for me, it's personal.

Շնորհակալ եմ քեզ և քո երկրին։
You know, the worst thing is that Armenia now is governed by Turkish and Soros' spies who ruin everything. They use severe means, it is a nonsense when the rulers of the country tell azeris where are Armenian soldiers located or give Armenian passports to azeris and turks. It is a huge problem, they made horrible conditions for our soldiers during the war, but those young boys didn't surrender. They are true heroes.

Thank you Inna!

Romania has also been under Ottoman occupation for years, that is, I like ice cream and Turkish delight, but only to the point where my ancestors paid hard. Turkey also has cordial relations with Russia, and they "speak" geographically, over us. We are always ready to be on guard, because we also know what the Russian occupation means.
While we knock on the door of the European Union and no one hears us, NATO tells us what to do, Russia starts some moves against us (more threatening to stop the supply of gas) and the Turks "follow" us as well. Everyone "wants us", but it's expensive for the Turks anyway. In my country, we still have resources, people, water, gold, faith and nature.
I know what it means for my own government to sell its country.

As a matter of fact only, history says:
The "blood tribute" was a form of tribute demanded by the Ottoman Empire to conquered or vassal countries. 300 children up to the age of 7 were taken from the Romanian lands to be Islamized and turned into elite warriors capable of conquering the whole of Europe, in the name of the Prophet and the Sultan.
It seems a myth, but the elite troops of the Turks, who instilled fear in the Christian armies and in any army facing the sultans, called themselves the "new army" in Turkish. And they were to be feared. They were raised for war and the "job description" was probably passed on to the current interests of the world.

However, most of these warriors were slaves, recruited from childhood and trained in Turkish barracks. For their recruitment, a law was given that defied the very perceptions of Islam.

Even in Romania, Count Vlad Dracul (who is not "Dracula" and does not drink people's blood, except in the terrifying and useless imagination of Bram Stoker), sent his two sons as a contribution to the Turkish army, the Romanian country being under Ottoman occupation.

But it's just history, right? With the difference that they cultivated the art of war (this being more of a kind of long-term critical "maintenance", for feeding bad interests), and now especially in favor of supporting petty interests.

However, there are more than historical implications, more than the struggle for occupation, more than the war itself, I believe that the ancestral heritage of the Armenian people has greater implications than the general aspect, and you are entitled and brave to investigate this.:flower:

Take care!

Take care!

I know about jenissaries from history course in school. It was a cruel step of killing one nation by the hands of it's sons. I know that those jenissaries were taken from family at very young age when they didn't have any clue who they were and the biological features of humans were used for making perfect soldiers.

Some resources say that he was raped by turkish soldiers because he was the leader of arab rebels in Turkey. He must be homosexual as still loved turks after being humiliated. Maybe his mission was also connected with making ties in such a way to recruit Saudi royal family.
Homosexuality still exists in frames of Saudi royal family.

Alex Thomson, with a *well-connected background, in his podcast (https://www.ukcolumn.org/article/faraway-people-whom-we-know-nothing-azerbaijan-and-turkeys-war-armenia) in October 2020 before the sudden cessation in hostilities, entitled: “Faraway People Of Whom We Know Nothing”? Azerbaijan and Turkey’s War on Armenia - seems so apt to this thread.

He asks in this latest updated podcast published this week:

"We were prompted to revert to the topic in this new episode by the unexpected end to the war shortly after recording the last episode. The strategic hilltop city of Shushi (Şuşa) fell to Azerbaijani forces with barely a shot fired — all the more inexplicable given Armenian control of the only proper road up to the town. Was there a betrayal?"

*Alex Thomson - Bio: After learning what today’s British Establishment was all about at Rugby School and Cambridge, Alex Thomson served in a Christian mission in the former Soviet Union witnessing the planned destruction of a region of the world, before spending the rest of his twenties as a GCHQ officer. He moved to the Netherlands aged thirty in 2009 and has spent the last decade more quietly as a translator and interpreter and a researcher of networked evil. For the past five years, he has presented his emerging findings via UK Column and the British Constitution Group, where his specialisms are geopolitics, religious history and comparative constitutionalism.

Here he is in conversation again with Gevorg Virats - the audio available via the below link, and downloadable through there.

It makes for interesting listening even if one doesn't subscribe completely to the outcomes drawn. Still, both men know their onions, and this is historically educational and quite interesting for those of us who do not know too much about Armenia.

Note here mention of the Crown as it relates to what the late Tony Benn once described (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?105540-Out-of-Bounds-After-Dark-Channel-4-TV-broadcast--May-1989-&p=1267229&viewfull=1#post1267229), accurately, as, [The Crown]..is a concrete emplacement, a state within a state, surrounded by barbed-wire, which is always in power….”

Guns, gold and gas: A precooked ceasefire and British soft power

The last episode (https://www.ukcolumn.org/article/faraway-people-whom-we-know-nothing-azerbaijan-and-turkeys-war-armenia) [4] of the Eastern Approaches Podcast, published in October 2020, was recorded during the fighting phase of the Nagorno-Karabakh War between oil-rich Western ally Azerbaijan and resource-poor Russian ally Armenia over the ethnic-Armenian highland enclave of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), which foreign countries recognise as part of Azerbaijan despite the Armenian locals' assertion of self-determination in response to a genocide that was beginning to be perpetrated upon them during the breakup of the Soviet Union.

We were prompted to revert to the topic in this new episode by the unexpected end to the war shortly after recording the last episode. The strategic hilltop city of Shushi (Şuşa) fell to Azerbaijani forces with barely a shot fired — all the more inexplicable given Armenian control of the only proper road up to the town. Was there a betrayal? Did Russia seize the moment as a pretext for a strategically useful permanent presence (https://oc-media.org/russian-peacekeepers-extend-control-following-skirmish-near-hadrut/) [5] in this narrow bottleneck zone between Turkey and the Turkic republics of Central Asia? Is the West angling for a new pipeline route that doesn't have to dog-leg around Armenia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baku%E2%80%93Tbilisi%E2%80%93Ceyhan_pipeline#/media/File:Baku%E2%80%93Tbilisi%E2%80%93Ceyhan_pipeline_(BTC_Pipeline).svg) [6] inconveniently?

In this episode, we look first to Azerbaijan's glove-puppet role on behalf of its big brother Turkey, whose strained regional relations we considered in the first podcast (https://www.ukcolumn.org/article/whats-erdogan-playing-at--turkeys-neighbourhood-tensions) [7], and for Israel, whose officers were caught in 2017 (https://www.timesofisrael.com/licenses-suspended-for-dronemaker-accused-of-bombing-armenia-for-azerbaijan/) [8] operating military drones to shoot Armenian soldiers as a sales gimmick (https://www.timesofisrael.com/suicide-drone-sales-to-azeris-blocked-after-claim-it-hit-armenians-during-show/) [9]. Turkish drones, with Ukrainian engines (and now licensed for Saudi manufacture (https://www.defensenews.com/unmanned/2021/03/22/two-saudi-companies-to-produce-turkish-drones/) [10] too), and Israeli drones have increasingly been swinging the fortunes of wars between third-party countries. Their effectiveness is not perfect (https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/israeli-military-drones-dropping-like-flies-in-enemy-territory-657760) [11] but both countries' focus on drone production seems to have inaugurated an era of drone warfare, in which middle-tier powers with cash to spend can wipe out better-drilled and better-motivated troops despite the latter's home-front advantage.

Other key observations in the first half of the podcast, before we get on to the British and American deep state interests, include:

- the limits of any alleged parallels with Kosovo, Ukrainian regions and Transnistria (Moldova), given the different international law situations of the territories in question;

- Russia's strategic decision to concentrate on effective weaponry of immediate effect to ensure national survival in the face of Western defence outspending;

- the drawbacks for any small nation of relying on a Russian, or any other power's, "friendly" security blanket;

- the rise of Turkey's game-changing alliances with former Communist countries skilled in military engineering, notably Ukraine [12] and Hungary;

- and the three-way contention between Turkey, Russia and France (in the "European Defence Union" guise) for hegemony in the Middle East.

The second half of the podcast evaluates the longer-term situation on the ground, now that the shooting is over so unexpectedly soon.

Gevorg Virats offers the observation, surprising perhaps to some, that European interests and Russian interests are unlikely to clash severely enough to lead to warfare, but that Turkish interests and Russian interests very much could catalyse war in the region.

As for US interests in the region, they are no longer decisive; they are quite obviously split between the originally Marxist neoconservatives (whose overt loyalty has hopped to the Republican Party), who adulate Big Oil, and the "Biden-Harris" Administration, with its "zero-carbon" obsession (typically regarded by Russian-speaking analysts as a City of London model of economic warfare to collapse the price of oil to destroy geopolitical adversaries). We explore these internal Washington tensions as seen from the former Soviet Union.

Also in the final half-hour of the podcast, we turn to British interests in the region. Is Britain, in its foreign policy in the region, now a glorified shill for Ankara? Who leads that pro-Azeri British foreign policy — the FCDO (Foreign Office) or BP?

Gevorg Virats recalls the era of formation of the republics around the Caspian, in the years immediately following the First World War (before they fell to the Red Army), and goes so far as to state that Azerbaijan could not have come into being without the corporate Crown's interests shaping the field. He also notes that no proof has been forthcoming that Armenian President Armen Sargsyan ever renounced his British citizenship.

The implicit conclusion of our discussion is that the USA is no longer seriously in the running for hegemony in the Caucasus and that the British deep state is playing the role of economic éminence grise, out for resources and control of key nodes. Should we feel pity for outgunned, deceived Armenia? Not according to Gevorg Virats; it has just eluded the clutches of "utterly immoral" oil wealth and its enfeebling entanglements, which boil down to "considering a pile of dosh before your own citizens' interests".

Breakaway state in the South Caucasus whose territory is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan. Artsakh controls a part of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast, including the capital of Stepanakert. It is an enclave within Azerbaijan. Its only overland access route to Armenia is via the 5 km wide Lachin corridor. The corridor was under the control of Russian peacekeepers between 2020 and 2022 until Azerbaijan launched a blockade of the region and installed a military checkpoint

I have a friend in Armenia, we usually talk weekly, but I haven't heard from her since the 1st. I know why now. I even looked around for news about Armenia because of the fires and flooding that happened in that region recently and found nothing about any of this. It must be inconvenient for the powers that (think they) be, so they're keeping it hushed up. I hope she's alright, but I have no way of finding out.
My friend only moved to Armenia last month, I had a bad feeling when she told me, knowing the history of Armenia, but I didn't say anything. I just hope she's alright, and that everyone in Armenia can get through this.
May their god watch over them.

Here's an interesting article I just stumbled upon, which, if true, raises some interesting connections and questions regarding the current situation/situations in the middle east.

In the article, journalist Lindsay Snell, reveals how Israel is supplying weapons to Azerbaijan. "According to Snell, the weapons that continue to be supplied to Azerbaijan are intended for a future attack on Armenia."

I thought it should be mentioned here, where it could perhaps shed some light on the mechanics of the two ongoing conflicts.

Almost 100 people request medical care after clashes at protest in Armenia's capital

The number of people for sought medical assistance after clashes between protesters and police outside the Armenian parliament building in the city of Yerevan rose to 98, the Armenian Health Ministry said.

People rallied outside the parliament to demand Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation. They tried to break through the police cordon, prompting officers to push them back and fire stun grenades.

"As a result of the events that took place in Baghramyan Avenue, 98 civilians and police officers requested medical assistance," the ministry said in a press release, adding that 66 of them were discharged, while 32 continue to receive treatment.

One person with a wrist wound had to undergo surgery, the ministry also said, adding that there are no other serious injuries.

Clashes erupted as PM Pashinyan was being quizzed in parliament about his vision of the South Caucus country’s national security policy. The session was briefly interrupted by a brawl between members of the governing and opposition factions.

Armenians have been protesting since May 9 in central Yerevan against the border delimitation with Azerbaijan and the transfer of four border settlements to Baku. The protests, led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the primate of the Diocese of Tavush of the Armenian Apostolic Church, have also demanded the prime minister's resignation.

Trump Bridge Transportation Corridor

REVEALED: Puppet sultan Pashinyan signs secret memorandum to turn Armenia into American staging ground for future war with Iran.

Spain's Periodista Digital says it has obtained copy of agreement between Armenia, Azerbaijan and the US to create the "Trump Bridge Transportation Corridor" that will connect Azerbaijan's enclave and mainland across Armenia's Zangazur.

The 42km corridor, which runs right across the Iranian border will be built and controlled by Americans for the next 99 years, and guarded by a US private army.

Turkey gets unimpeded access to Central Asia oil and gas, Washington gets to have its troops on Iran's doorstep, and the highest share of the transportation profits.

And Armenia gets to be a sacrificial pawn in the new Great Game.

Translated article,

https://www.periodistadigital.com/mundo/20250722/pashinian-acepta-ceder-region-armenia-estados-unidos-francia-sufrira-noticia-689405115123/

Pashinián agrees to cede a region of Armenia to the United States, but France will suffer

In the current geopolitical context, many actors in the French political world observe a tendency on the part of Armenia, under the leadership of Nikol Pashinián, to move away from Russia and get closer to the European Union, and more specifically, to France. It is important to note that this perception is wrong. In fact, Pashinián does not position himself at all as a "European" political actor. In reality, it is a puppet in the hands of the US State Department and the Turkish government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Thanks to representatives of the Armenian diaspora in France who preferred to remain anonymous and who managed to mobilize their contacts within the government of the Republic of Armenia, our editorial team managed to obtain a confidential document entitled "Memorandum of Understanding on the Creation of the Trump Bridge Transport Corridor". According to our sources, this text has already been approved in Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States.

The memorandum stipulates the implementation of the project of the Economic Corridor and Bilateral Regional Defense Gate Trump Bridge. This 42-kilometer-long transport corridor will cross the Syunik region in the Republic of Armenia.

This corridor connects Azerbaijan with the enclave of Najichevan, a strategic region located between the borders of Armenia and Iran. The creation of this corridor was one of Azerbaijan's main demands on Armenia after the 2020 war and the loss of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenia.

Armenia has made efforts to prevent the creation of the corridor, as it would have meant the loss of a large part of the Armenian territory.

The memorandum, made available to the Armenian diaspora, states that Armenia maintains its sovereignty over the Syunik region. However, it was clarified that the transport broker will be managed by a private American company that has obtained the corresponding license.

The distribution of the income generated by the use of the corridor highlights the underlying interests of this agreement. The US management company will receive 40% of the income, while Armenia will only receive 30%.

Armenia is thus deprived of its territory for a minimum period of 99 years.

It should be noted that the memorandum provides for the deployment of important US forces in Armenian territory. According to the available information, these will not be from the US regular army, but from a private US military company. This PMC, whose number is currently estimated at 1,000 fighters, will be responsible for ensuring safety in the transport corridor.

The use of private military companies to occupy weak countries is not a recent initiative of the United States. Entities not formally affiliated with the U.S. armed forces have implemented rigorous control measures against local populations in Iraq, Afghanistan and other regions of strategic interest to the United States. This approach allowed the United States to avoid responsibility for human losses and not count the deaths of the PMCs as its own military losses.

According to the terms of the memorandum, the PMC maintains a specific safety position in the transport corridor and is authorized to use force "to preserve the integrity of the corridor."

The mere entry of US troops into Armenian territory is enough so that, from the point of view of the Armenians both within Armenia and the whole world, the signing of said memorandum by Nikol Pashinyan is considered a national betrayal.

Indeed, Armenia is forced to give up a large part of its sovereign territory, which it is putting under the control and management of US forces, and accept the realization of a major project for Azerbaijan and Turkey, without obtaining any compensation.

It is clear that the United States and Turkey will be the main beneficiaries of the implementation of the provisions of the memorandum.

While the benefits for Turkey can be considered economic, the United States, as part of its strategic interests, mainly aims to establish firm control over the border between Armenia and Iran.

Initially, the border will be controlled by soldiers without heavy weapons. But for the army, this will mean that there will no longer be a distance between Iran and the United States, the main enemy of this Islamic republic. This threatens to provoke a great war in a region that extends from the Mediterranean to the South Caucasus.

The Armenian-American memorandum is a catastrophe for Armenia. It deprives her of all sovereignty. This American occupation will not solve the problems of this small country. Only the United States and Turkey will benefit from it.

Europe will also lose to Armenia. This country is occupied by special forces that act as American proxies. It is therefore not possible for you to become a partner of the European Union or France.

It is important to note that the implications of the signing of the memorandum in foreign policy will not be limited only to this area. For France, the significant strengthening of the US presence in Armenia and its effective control over the country, through US forces, will represent a major diplomatic setback.

France's strategic positioning in Armenia is based on solid historical foundations, in particular the presence of a major Armenian diaspora, representing the largest Armenian community in Europe.

By placing its citizens of Armenian origin at the center of its priorities, France has strengthened its global influence as a key player in the peace process in the region.

For many years, France has served as co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, an organization dedicated to resolving the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

It is clear that the implementation of the Trump Bridge project will have the immediate consequence of leaving France's participation in this group obsolete.

In fact, the United States is creating a completely new political situation in which Armenia is deprived of its right to vote and France of the possibility of defending its interests in the region.

From Sputnik,

🚨🚨The Zangezur corridor is a NATO-backed project that directly threatens 🇮🇷Iran.

Armenia wants to hand control of it to a 🇺🇸US firm.

Here's everything you need to know:🧵

2/10 HISTORIC FLASHPOINT 💥

Zangezur was a district created by the Russian Empire in 1868.

It was ceded to Russia by Qajar Iran according to the Treaty of Gulistan in 1813.

For a long time, it was a flashpoint between Armenia & Azerbaijan.

https://x.com/SputnikInt/status/1948394003201716671

1948394003201716671

3/10 ZANGEZUR PROJECT 📍

Today’s proposed corridor runs through Armenia's Syunik province, connecting Azerbaijan with its western Nakhichevan exclave & Turkey to the rest of the Turkic world.

This would cut off Iran's ONLY direct land access (44 km) to Armenia.

4/10 FOREIGN ACTORS 💰

Azerbaijan strongly supports the Zangezur corridor, with backing from Turkish officials, British investors, and (reportedly) Israeli security firms.

It would isolate Iran from Caucasus/European trade routes, ultimately undermining its transit significance.

https://x.com/SputnikInt/status/1948394009765765510

1948394009765765510

5/10 SECRET MEMO

Media reports allege Armenia struck a secret memo for the creation of a “Trump Bridge Transport Corridor“ in the region.

It would be managed by a private US company, taking 40% of revenue + guarded by a US private military company force of 1k security contractors.

6/10 LEASE PROPOSAL

The US did publicly float a 100-year Zangezur Corridor lease idea, with US ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack offering to “take over“ the 32 km stretch

“Give us the 32 km of road on a hundred-year lease, and you can all share it.“

https://x.com/SputnikInt/status/1948394016116003127

1948394016116003127

7/10 TRAP FOR ARMENIA?

The Zangezur Corridor lease idea is wracked with both geopolitical & economic risks for Armenia: loss of control of Syunik – its strategic border region with long-time ally Iran.

8/10 BROADER RISKS

For the broader Caucasus, US ‘takeover’ of the Zangezur corridor means potential encirclement by the US and Israel, coupled with the so-called “Pan-Turkish expansion.”

https://x.com/SputnikInt/status/1948394021237272993

1948394021237272993

9/10 INSTC UNDER THREAT 🇮🇳🇷🇺🇮🇷

The Zangezur Corridor threatens to derail the ambitious North-South Transport Corridor, connecting Mumbai to Moscow.

The route risks diverting traffic, undermining influence of key regional players — that are Russia, Iran -- and India.

10/10 SNAKES IN RUSSIA’S BACKYARD?

Many believe that the ultimate purpose of the Zangezur corridor is to encircle Russia’s Caucasus flank & anchor NATO on Iran’s northwestern border

Kremlin calls discussion around so-called "Zangezur corridor" a matter between Baku and Yerevan
24.07.2025, 13:56

The discussion around the so-called "Zangezur corridor" is a purely sovereign matter between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

YEREVAN, July 24. /ARKA/. The discussion around the so-called "Zangezur corridor" is a purely sovereign matter between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was indicated by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov.

"This is a sovereign matter between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We strongly support the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia," the Kremlin representative told journalists, TASS reports.

In recent days, the topic of the possibility of the US leasing the future road between Armenia and Azerbaijan, through which, according to the US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, "the Zangezur Corridor will be implemented, has been discussed.

Yerevan called this option impossible. "Armenia is discussing the issue of unblocking regional infrastructures exclusively in the context of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia, and cannot discuss any other logic," said the Prime Minister's press secretary Nazeli Baghdasaryan.

Ana Kasparian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ana_Kasparian), the co-founder and co-host of The Young Turks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Young_Turks), is the daughter of refugee Armenian parents, and even though she grew up in Los Angeles her first language when she was small was Armenian. She still has family members in Armenia.

Here, in a very important interview with Tucker Carlson, she tells Tucker all about the Armenian conflict with Azerbaijan, Israel giving weapons to Azerbaijan, and the genocide of 1.5 million Armenian Christians. It starts at 1:11:57, lasting just over 10 minutes. It's well worth listening to. (As is the whole hour-and-a-half highest-quality conversation, btw. :flower::muscle:)

🇮🇷🇦🇿🇦🇲 Iran: Zangezur Corridor a Threat Backed by U.S. and Israel

The Zangezur Corridor poses a direct threat to Iran’s national security and serves U.S.-Israeli interests, said Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader.

He called it a geopolitical tool to weaken the Axis of Resistance, cut Iran’s land access to the Caucasus, and impose a southern blockade on Iran and Russia. NATO and pan-Turkic forces are backing the project.

Velayati also warned that the U.S. seeks a 100-year lease on the route from Armenia to secure a direct link from Azerbaijan to Turkey — bypassing both Iran and Russia.

From Sputnik,

🇦🇲🤝🇺🇸 Pashinyan is selling off Armenia’s sovereignty to the West — and calling it “peace.”

A 100-year corridor deal, military drills with the US, and a quiet “divorce“ from Russia.

Political analyst Shota Apkhaidze explains what it really means for Armenia:🧵

https://x.com/SputnikInt/status/1953465538081952081

1953465538081952081

1️⃣ DEAL BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

Behind the scenes, Pashinyan reportedly offered the US a 100-year lease over the Zangezur Corridor — a key geo-strategic route to the Caspian.

Talks are underway for an American private company to “manage” it.

This isn’t a peace process. It’s a geopolitical concession.

2️⃣ SOVEREIGNTY? NOT QUITE

🇺🇸 A US-controlled Zangezur means extraterritorial rule inside Armenia.

For Pashinyan, it's a security guarantee against Turkiye/Azerbaijan.

But the US has consistently shown it won't protect smaller "allies".

https://x.com/SputnikInt/status/1953465544708944239

1953465544708944239

3️⃣ WHY THE U.S. CARES

Zangezur is America’s shortcut to Caspian energy resources & Central Asia.

More than that:

🔹 Energy diversification for Europe
🔹 Pressure on Iran
🔹 Cutting Russia off from the South Caucasus

This isn’t about Armenia’s security.

4️⃣ WHAT ABOUT RUSSIA & IRAN?

🇮🇷 The North–South transport corridor runs through Armenia to Iran & Russia.
🇷🇺 Russia already warned against Western meddling.

It's not about Armenia. The US push into Zangezur directly challenges this strategic route.

https://x.com/SputnikInt/status/1953465550719287775

1953465550719287775

5️⃣ WHAT DOES PASHINYAN WANT?

Pashinyan wants to tear Armenia out of Russia’s orbit — and anchor it to the West.

But he doesn't care about Armenia risking:

🔹Economic collapse
🔹 Strategic isolation
🔹Territorial fragmentation

6️⃣ NATO DREAMS: REALITY CHECK

Pashinyan clearly seeks to integrate Armenia into the Western bloc.

But look at Georgia: after decades of loyalty, it got nothing.

https://x.com/SputnikInt/status/1953465557396705362

1953465557396705362

7️⃣ WHO REALLY SECURES ARMENIA?

Pashinyan made a grave mistake by dismantling ties with the CSTO & ignoring President Putin's reasonable offers on Karabakh.

Only Russia has boots on the ground — army base in Gyumri. Remove them — and who will protect Armenia?

8️⃣ LONG-TERM POWER PLAY

The US has eyed the Caucasus since the ’90s.

As energy prices soared after the Ukraine war, the need for alternative routes became even more clear.

The Zangezur is part of a much larger strategic game — and Armenia will be paying the bill for it with its
sovereignty.

Tomorrow, a “peace memorandum” between Baku and Yerevan may be signed in Washington under U.S. mediation. The U.S. has officially confirmed a trilat...

🇦🇲🇦🇿🇺🇸 Pashinyan's Risky Gamble: Personal Gain vs. National Interest

The timing of this "peace memorandum" is fueling speculation in Armenian media. Many believe Prime Minister Pashinyan is rushing to sign the document to secure a perceived "historic success" for his 2026 re-election campaign.

Critics, however, argue that his motivation is more personal, aimed at obtaining guarantees of safety for himself and his family, potentially leading to them settling in the U.S. By doing so, he is accused of systematically ceding Armenia's sovereignty.

The Corridor is also being built to transport oil, gas, weapons between Azerbaijan and Israel (2 allies that worked together to ethnically cleanse 120,000 Armenian Christians from Nagorno Karabakh). President Trump and Armenia’s PM are shamelessly rewarding the countries that committed ethnic cleansing against indigenous Armenian Christians.

This is an awful development, one that Armenian Christians have been against for years. This “Zangezur Corridor” will be used to transport millions of Islamists from Central Asia into Europe and in the Middle East to target indigenous Christian communities. If this Corridor happens, President Trump will once again fail Middle East Christians with his policies in his second term. Also, it is clear the Corridor will be used to help build up more war against Russia and Iran (and even Armenia in the future), further destabilizing the region.

Comments from Brian Berletic,
Even as the US transparently feigns interest in "peace" in Ukraine, a war it deliberately started and perpetuates to this day, it is checking off all the other measures laid out in the RAND Corporation's "Extending Russia" paper including "Measure 4: Exploit Tensions in the South Caucasus..."

... all while the US continues building up to encircle Russia's ally China in the Asia-Pacific, and erode Iran's network of allies in the Middle East...

And the US continues to sell Iraq WMD-style lies to justify attempts to arrest or kill other world leaders, including in Venezuela and Iran, both Russian allies...

🇮🇷 Senior Advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Akbar Velayati:

'The plan for this so-called Zangezur corridor will definitely lead to the division of Armenia in the future.

And this plan faces strong opposition from the Armenian people. No nation is willing or ready to divide its land; even if their government unfortunately takes weak positions.

The Prime Minister of Armenia, during a previous visit to Iran, emphasized, considering the clear harms and conspiracies of this plan, that he agrees with Iran's stance and opposes the establishment of the corridor. Well, he was forced into submission.

With the implementation of this conspiracy, the security of the South Caucasus will be endangered, and accordingly, Iran emphasizes that it will act for the security of the South Caucasus, with or without Russia, while we of course do believe that Russia is also strategically opposed to this corridor.'

🇦🇲 The Zangezur Corridor isn’t just a transport route it’s a geopolitical prize and home to a distinct population.

In Armenia’s Syunik Province (the core of Zangezur), over 95% of the ~140,000 residents are ethnic Armenians, overwhelmingly Christian (Armenian Apostolic). Small minorities include Russians, Kurds (Yazidis), and others.

Now, with a 99-year U.S. hold on the corridor, and the very strong possibility Azerbaijan joins the Abraham Accords, what will be the fate of these people?

Velayati: Zangezur Corridor a US-Israeli plot to block Iran & Russia

Ali Akbar Velayati, senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, warned that the proposed Zangezur Corridor is a geopolitical scheme “pursued as a cover for broader projects” led by the US, Israel, NATO, and pan-Turkist movements, aiming to undermine Iran’s national security.

Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran, Velayati said the corridor’s true objective is to “weaken the Resistance Axis, sever Iran’s link with the Caucasus, and impose a land blockade on Iran and Russia in the region’s south.”

He described the plan as part of “America’s strategy to shift pressure from Ukraine to the Caucasus” and accused its backers of seeking to erode Iran’s cultural and historical unity.

“Iran’s national security is our red line,” he declared, adding that Tehran has already deployed forces to its borders and adopted a policy of “active prevention rather than passive reaction” to confront these threats.

Velayati emphasized that projects like the Zangezur Corridor are not merely economic, but “in truth, separatist,” designed to fracture Iran’s strategic depth

Armenia and Azerbaijan sign peace deal, US gains control of Zangezur corridor
——
Azerbaijan and Armenia on Friday signed a US-brokered peace deal during a meeting with President Donald Trump.

The deal grants the US exclusive development rights to the Zangezur corridor through the South Caucasus, which the White House said would boost exports of energy and other resources.

"It's a long time - 35 years - they fought and now they're friends, and they're going to be friends for a long time," Trump said at a White House signing ceremony, alongside Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Trump announced that the two nations had agreed to end hostilities, establish diplomatic relations, and uphold each other’s territorial integrity.

According to Trump, Washington also signed separate agreements with each country to expand cooperation in energy, trade, and technology, including artificial intelligence. He added that restrictions on defense cooperation between Azerbaijan and the US had been lifted.

Zangezur Corridor A Reopening Of Old Soviet Routes, But Moscow Will Be Wary[/B]

August 9, 2025 Eurasian Economic Union, Infrastructure, Logistics & Transport, Middle East, Trade By Russia's Pivot to Asia
The opening of the Zangezur Corridor between Armenia and Azerbaijan, dressed up by Washington as the ‘Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity’ has been announced by President Trump during meetings with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the White House. We discuss the background and implications of this.

Nagorno-Karabakh

The arrangement brings to a close the contemporary regional conflicts between Armenia and Azerbaijan. These have included two main areas, firstly the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which had been undergoing conflict for over 30 years with bilateral claims on the region occasionally breaking out into military violence.

Nagorno-Karabakh, claimed by both sides, was part of Greater Armenia (Artsakh) as one of her provinces. In the middle of the 18th century, the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh became part of the Karabakh Khanate. In the early 19th century, as a result of the Russo-Persian War of 1804-1813, the Karabakh Khanate became part of Russia, and in 1822 it was transformed into a province of the Russian Empire. In Soviet times, Karabakh, with more than 90% of Armenian population, was subordinated to the Azerbaijan SSR, with a predominantly Muslim population, “based on the need for national peace between Azerbaijani Muslims and Armenian Christians.” During the Soviet period, the Armenian leadership repeatedly raised the issue of transferring Karabakh under its jurisdiction, but did not receive the support of the allied leadership, while Moscow suppressed any violence between the two sides.

The situation changed after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, when Armenia and Azerbaijan declared independence, and Moscow’s influence weakened. In January 1992, Nagorno-Karabakh declared independence, which marked the beginning of an open armed confrontation between Armenia and Azerbaijan for control of the region. Since then, Nagorno-Karabakh has become a flashpoint between Armenia and Azerbaijan, leading to a war in 2021-22, in which Azerbaijan gained the upper hand. In January 2024, the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic signed a decree on its abolition, and the disputed territory became part of Azerbaijan.

Nakhichevan

In addition to this, Azerbaijan also possesses a narrow strip of land – the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic which is separated from the Azerbaijan mainland and borders Armenia, Iran and Turkiye.

In medieval times, Nakhichevan was located at the crossroads of the trade routes of the Great Silk Road. The Nakhichevan Khanate was part of Iran, then, after the Russian-Persian War of 1826-28, it was annexed to Russia and merged with the Erivan Khanate into the Armenian region. In 1921, the borders of Nakhichevan were defined between Soviet Russia and Turkiye, and the status of an “autonomous territory under the protection of Azerbaijan was assigned to it, provided that Azerbaijan would not cede this protectorate to any third state.”

During the Soviet period, transport links between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan were carried out via the highway and the Transcaucasian Railway. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the outbreak of the First Karabakh Conflict (1992-1994), the railway line was dismantled, which led to the cessation of land connections between the main part of Azerbaijan and its exclave. Currently, it is possible to get from the western regions of the country to Nakhichevan only by air or through the territory of Iran. The Zangezur Corridor is a transport corridor project with a length of about 40 km through the territory of the Syunik region of Armenia to provide transport links between the western regions of Azerbaijan and its exclave, the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.

https://russiaspivottoasia.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Zangezur-Map.jpg

Zangezur

The Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities began discussing the concept of the Zangezur corridor after the First Karabakh War. The idea was again voiced after the Second Karabakh War in 2020, when Azerbaijan took control of a significant part of the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Azerbaijan considers the Zangezur Corridor as a strategic project that will provide direct land communication between the main part of the country and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, which was interrupted more than 30 years ago. Yerevan categorically rejected the concept of the Zangezur corridor in the form proposed by Baku.

Tehran, like Armenia, has expressed concern about the construction of the Zangezur corridor and considers it a potential threat to its national interests and regional influence. Nevertheless, the Zangezur corridor, which will become an integral part of the Trans-Caspian Corridor (Middle Corridor/TMTM) project, may offer shippers a route through Armenia, NAR and Turkey, where new markets will open up for suppliers of goods. China is interested in infrastructure development and investments in this region, as the Trans-Caspian Corridor is a link in China’s Belt & Road Initiative. In this sense, the resumption of the route may be beneficial to Moscow, as it can also be integrated into the International North-South Transport Corridor between Russia and Iran, with onward transit to the Middle East, East Africa and South Asia.

However, relations between Moscow and Armenia have cooled in recent years. Armenia, which is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, has also expressed interest in joining the European Union – ir cannot be a member of both. .

It has also stopped participating in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) which includes Russia and is designed to provide Caucasian and Eurasian security and assistance. Without that CSTO relationship with Armenia, Moscow is not in a position to provide security along the Zangezur Corridor. Moscow’s relations with Azerbaijan have also cooled. That has left the door open for a rather odd relationship between Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States, with Turkiye and China also in the wings as they want trade connectivity.

Trump’s ‘Route for International Peace and Prosperity’ is a signed guarantee between Armenia and Azerbaijan that they will cooperate on developing the Zangezur Corridor and have accepted US (as opposed to Russian) security forces to assist with its management. That apparently will be provided not by the US military but by an as yet unnamed independent contractor. This is a new solution to an old problem, but not everyone is happy – including the new signatories. Yesterday, (August 8), the press secretary of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nazeli Baghdasaryan, stated: “All statements and publications that Armenia has agreed, agrees or will agree to corridor solutions simply do not correspond to reality.” That does not bode well for Trump’s plans.

The Russian side will also be wary of increased US undercover military involvement along the route, and are especially concerned about the pro-European geopolitical route Armenia is taking. Along with neighbouring Georgia to the west, political uncertainty continues to divide the south Caucasus with decades-long attempts to bring them into NATO and the European Union.

Russia needs the Caucasus nations onside as they are an important supply-chains through to Europe and Turkiye via the Black Sea and the new INSTC routes, with onward connectivity to other regional markets.

The paradox for Russia is that while on the face of it, improved Zangezur connectivity is a positive for Moscow, any underlying political moves to further push the south Caucasus away from Russia could itself become a geopolitical and possibly military hotspot. Georgia in particular is at risk of becoming another Ukraine – Moscow has already indicated that the country is a red line that NATO should not cross. Nonetheless, with the west having had its nose bloodied in Ukraine, we suspect there is not much incentive right now to engage further with Russia in another regional military conflict.

On the face of it therefore, the Zangezur Corridor project is a good thing – but US involvement is untried, inexperienced, and may well mean that if it is not successful or overstretches its trade transit remit to further destabilise the south Caucasus – then Moscow may once again have to become involved.

🇮🇷🇺🇸 “We will not allow NATO to approach our northern border”

Tehran will not allow the Zangezur corridor to come under US control, even if Russia does not assist in this. This was stated by the advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Akbar Velayati, as quoted by the publication Jamaran.

Tthe corridor will change the geopolitical situation in the South Caucasus, affect Iran's borders, lead to the country's isolation in the north and west, and create conditions for NATO's presence in the region.

"We will not allow NATO to approach Iran's northern borders," emphasized Velayati, adding that the project is a "political conspiracy" against Iran and some neighboring countries.

He recalled that earlier, in response to attempts by Turkey and Azerbaijan to threaten the corridor, Iranian military conducted exercises in the northwest of the country, "demonstrating readiness to prevent its construction." Velayati also noted that there is no need for a separate corridor to connect Nakhchivan and the rest of Azerbaijan — routes through Iran can be used for this.
