Anyone got experience of burning sage to "smudge" a property?
Many believe it can cleanse, revigorate and revitalise a property whilst renewing the energy within the property and clearing it of old or negative energy.
What's your thoughts (and results) on this?
Thanks

I smudge on occasion.
Whether or not the qualities of the herbs used matter is up for anyone to decide for him or herself.
I believe that intentions matter. So if you smudge with the intention of cleansing the energies regardless of the effect of the herbs. Your mind, focused on cleansing will do a lot of the work.

I smudge my home on New Year's eve and other times when I think it needs to be done. Like many things, I think the intention is the main thing. It's a ritual I enjoy. The house feels refreshed...that's good enough for me! 😁

The reason I raise it as a topic, is that we recently moved house, and the first 3 weeks had very very restless nights of sleep. The dog was coming into the room as we slept, jumping on the bed and licking and nibbling my face. (whether cos I was snoring i dont know, but I do know was not getting sleep.)
It was suggested to me to smudge the house from top to bottom starting from furthest away corner, ushering old, restless and negative energy to leave and welcomed new loving, creative and peaceful energy in(which we did) and finished by ushering out the front door (as we had all windows in house open.)
Surprisingly it appears to have worked wonders and had really good sleep since with the dog choosing to sleep downstairs on the sofa.
Am curious to the physics, metaphysics, spiritual laws and science of what occurred?
Was it just the "belief" that it would help? Or is there a more funadmental premise behind it.
Interestingly, the point about "intention" makes a lot of sense and thanks. Curious to what others think and have experienced.
Cheers.

Your animals in the house will always tell you if there is something in your house you can't see but can feel. You just need to pay attention. When smudging you must do it with conviction and focus. Your energy directed that the spirits in your dwelling are not wanted and it is time for them to move on. Start at one side of your home and move from room to room until in the last room open the window or door to say goodbye and let them out. Then go have a glass of wine and relax:).

I usually start outside. Enter the front door and keep going left.
Takes me through the whole house. And drives/pushes the energy forward. Leaving the front door when I get there in the end.
Often accompanied by leaving some salt every place the can enter to seal it off.

I smudge usually once a day. I smudge my yard area once a month and lately I smudge in one area of my land because something keeps visiting me there. I do it to clean the air around me and to dispel any negative energies. I use sweet grass and lavender and sage and mullein. I also use it to invite positive energy into my spaces.

Totally agree. Its a ritual, and the ritual - the burning, the smoke, the smell, the motions, etc. is a symbol for you to focus your intent and belief on to. There is no real "right" or "wrong" way to do it.
I burn Palo Santo (https://sacredwoodessence.com/benefits/) occasionally, which also has practical benefits, as well as ceremonial benefits. My method is to outline the area I wish to "cleanse" while focusing on cleansing energy emanating outward - sweeping away negative or heavy energy.
