Russia And Ukraine Are Ready For Long Border Battles

The Russian region of Kursk remains the main battlefield of Kyiv’s offensive attempts. Over the past days, NATO-backed Ukrainian forces have received large reinforcements and continued to intensify efforts to expand their zone of control on the Russian territory. Hungary again breaks with West: Ukrainian attack on Kursk is 'wrong'

Hungary has broken with its NATO and EU allies in condemning Ukraine's Kursk incursion, calling it out as not purely 'defensive' but as part of needlessly provocative offensive operations against Russian territory.

Gergely Gulyas, top advisor and spokesman for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a Thursday press briefing that Budapest is staunchly "pro-peace" - and when asked about the ongoing Kursk invasion, he said: "Ukraine is not only defending, but also attacking. We want a ceasefire and peace."

Gulyas went on to explain that Hungary is against anything which thwarts potential diplomatic settlement to the war. He said this is "wrong" given the offensive includes a "spillover of the hostilities into Russian territory."

"I'm not entirely sure if this is relevant," he told DW. "If Ukraine wanted to stop the transit of Russian gas, it could."

Operators in Austria and Hungary said that despite fighting in Sudzha, gas supply had not yet been disrupted. Hungary especially has been getting more and more nervous over the possibility, however.

Orban has certainly not shared the same enthusiasm for developments in Kursk as other European leaders. For example, recently the EU's top diplomat Josep Borrell "reiterated the EU’s full support to the [Ukrainian] people’s fight."

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Chronicle of a special military operation
for August 24-25, 2024

Russian troops launched air-guided missile strikes on Zmeiny Island and drilling platforms in the Black Sea. In addition, enemy targets were hit in temporarily occupied Slavyansk and Kramatorsk: in the latter, a strike was launched on a temporary deployment point of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in a hotel where foreign journalists were also accommodated.

Ukrainian forces launched a combined attack on the Voronezh region, damaging an ammunition depot in the Ostrogozhsk distric. In Sevastopol, the wreckage of an undetonated drone washed up on one of the piers.

In the North Ukrainian direction, Russian troops recaptured previously lost positions in the area of Kremyanoye and Olhivka in the Korenevsky district. The Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out an attack in the direction of Cherkasskaya Konopelka in the Sudzhansky district.

In the Aleksandro-Kalinovsky direction, Russian troops are consolidating their positions on the approaches to microdistrict No. 1 in Dzerzhinsk and completing the encirclement of the remnants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces garrison in Kirovo.

In the Pokrovsk direction, the Russian Armed Forces are breaking through the enemy's defenses, advancing simultaneously to the west within the borders of Novogrodovka and to the south through Kalinovo in the direction of the M-30 highway.

In the South Donetsk direction, Russian troops have consolidated their positions on the southern outskirts of Konstantinovka on the territory of a local agricultural complex. Further south, a large stronghold at the intersection of the T-05-24 highway with the road to Vodyanoye has come under control.

Hundreds of Ukrainian Orthodox pilgrims defy procession ban (VIDEO)
Hundreds of Ukrainian Orthodox faithful have arrived at a major monastery in the west of the country, after setting out on a ‘procession of the cross’ march over hundreds of kilometers. The long march went ahead despite a ban on the event by authorities, as Kiev continues to crack down on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which it accuses of having ties to Russia.

According to Ukrainian media and footage from the scene on Sunday, a large crowd gathered near the Pochaevskaya Lavra in the town of the same name in Ternopol Region. Clips and photos shared by the UOC on Facebook showed a street in front of the church packed with Orthodox faithful as far as the eye could see, many carrying life-size crosses and icons.

The procession had set out on Monday from the town of Kamenets-Podolsky, about 125 miles (200 km) to the south. Local media, citing churchgoers, reported that some parishioners were making their way to the Lavra to pray for peace in Ukraine to the Pochaev icon of the Mother of God, one of the most revered in Orthodoxy.

Ukrainian officials attempted to derail the procession, with the Khmelnitsky regional military administration banning any mass religious events from August 16 to 25. Media reports claimed that, on Tuesday, the pilgrims’ route was blocked in the village of Chemerovtsy, some 30 miles (50 km) north of Kamenets-Podolsky.

Alexandr Soban, the head of local community, said that the procession was not allowed to pass through the settlement and so it was forced to go around it. “I have nothing against God, but I am against the Russian Church,” he said, referring to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Ukrainian authorities have for months waged a campaign against the UOC, making arrests, closing churches and trying to force clergy and parishes to submit to the jurisdiction of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), which has the backing of Kiev. The OCU is considered by the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) to be schismatic.

Kiev has repeatedly accused the UOC of having ties with Russia, even though it severed all links with the Moscow Patriarchate several weeks after the Ukraine conflict began.

The campaign across Ukraine against the UOC, the country’s largest religious organization, came to a head on Saturday, when Vladimir Zelensky signed a law allowing the banning of any religious group suspected of having ties to Russia. The measure is widely seen as a direct attack on the UOC, and gives it nine months to sever all ties with the ROC before the official ban comes into force.

According to Vladimir Putin, the US withdrawal from the ABM Treaty in 2002 forced Russia to start developing hypersonic weapons: "We had to create these [hypersonic] weapons in response to the US deployment of a strategic missile defense system, which in the future would be capable of virtually neutralizing, zeroing out all our nuclear potential".[15] In 2007, when asked about U.S. plans to deploy ballistic missile defenses in Europe, Putin mentioned that Russia was developing “strategic weapons systems of a completely different type that will fly at hypersonic speed and will be able to change trajectory both in terms of altitude and direction".[16]

The Avangard (then called Yu-71 and Yu-74) was reportedly flight tested between February 2015 and June 2016 on board UR-100UTTKh ICBMs launched from Dombarovsky Air Base, Orenburg Oblast, when it reached a speed of 11,200 kilometres per hour (7,000 mph; 3,100 m/s) and successfully hit targets at the Kura Missile Test Range, Kamchatka Krai.[citation needed]

In October 2016, another flight test was carried out using a R-36M2 heavy ICBM launched from Dombarovsky Air Base, successfully hitting a target at the Kura Missile Test Range. This was reportedly the first fully successful test of the glide vehicle.[17]

On 1 March 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin in his presidential address to the Federal Assembly in Moscow announced that testing of the weapon is now complete and that it has entered serial production.[18] This was further confirmed by the commander of the Strategic Rocket Forces, Colonel General Sergei Karakayev [ru].[19][20]

The latest flight test occurred on 26 December 2018. Avangard carried by a UR-100UTTKh ICBM launched from Dombarovsky Air Base successfully hit a target at the Kura Missile Test Range.[citation needed] The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Yury Borisov stated a day later that the glider flew at 27 times the speed of sound, "invulnerable to interception".[7]

According to Russian Defense Ministry's press service/TASS, the Avangard missile system with the hypersonic glide-vehicle was demonstrated to the US inspection group in accordance with the New START treaty procedures on November 24–26, 2019.[21]

On 27 December 2019, the first missile regiment armed with the Avangard HGV officially entered combat duty.[1]

On 19 September 2020, Herbert Efremov, an Advisor for Science at the NPO Mashinostroyenia, was awarded Order of St. Andrew for his contributions to the Avangard development.[22]

Design
HGVs differ from traditional ballistic missiles by their ability to maneuver and operate at lower altitudes.[23] The combination of maneuverability and high speed poses significant challenges for conventional missile defense. With the advantage again swinging toward attack, the defense industry speculates that weapons of this type will reignite the kind of arms race that dominated the Cold War era.[24]

According to open-source analysis by Jane's, Avangard is a pure glide vehicle without an independent propulsion system.[25] When approaching a target, the glider supposedly is capable of sharp high speed horizontal and vertical evasive maneuvers in flight, which Russian officials claim makes it "invulnerable to any missile defence system". The blast yield of a nuclear warhead carried by the Avangard is reportedly more than 2 megatons TNT.[26]

The high speed of the Avangard likely gives it far better target-penetration characteristics than subsonic cruise-missiles. The Avangard weighs about 2,000 kg and travels at Mach 20–27, giving it the equivalent of 21 tons of TNT in kinetic energy alone, excluding any explosive warhead.

These are different things, I tell you as a hydraulic engineer and a fighter.

The dam will outlive us all, and the Kiev hydroelectric power station dam is as delicate as the former dam of the former Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.

What you all took for a "missed" Russian missile is a high-precision delivery of a heavy high-explosive charge to provide a powerful (powerful, Donna Rosa!) hydraulic shock to the underwater parts of the dam.

Well, and the additive was already on top* to expand and deepen what had been started - the deformation of the concrete part of the dam.

And then the water will find a hole.

Well despite reports that there's no power in the city (Kiev) this footage would seem to show there's at least some. One is unsure whether these people are waiting for a train to try and get home - it's Monday 'rush hour' - or, that they are taking shelter. Or, a mixture of both.

Washington considers the transfer of hostilities to Russian territory “dangerous” and is trying to prevent the outbreak of World War III, even if this requires cutting aid to Ukraine.

➖“But Ukraine is fighting for its existence. It would not refuse direct US intervention in the conflict with Russia,” the publication notes.

In a recently published book, David Sanger writes that Biden once made it clear to his aides that Zelensky may be deliberately trying to involve America in a global conflict.

The FT believes that Ukrainians may follow Israel’s example, using military methods without prior approval from the US, hoping that successful actions can be recognized by the States after the fact. And if the plans fail, the US will provide support in eliminating the consequences.

However, the US will most likely continue to carefully avoid a direct confrontation with Russia, fearing a nuclear escalation.

Early this morning, Russian troops launched a series of massive strikes on various targets on the territory of almost the entire so-called Ukraine. The targets of the raid included energy infrastructure facilities and air defense position areas.

▪️A series of explosions thundered in more than ten regions, including Kharkiv, Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

▪️A wide range of attack weapons are used for fire damage: from kamikaze drones of the Geran family to cruise and ballistic missiles.

The armed formations of Ukraine have faced a collapse of defense in the Pokrovsk (DPR) area, the publication writes. The article says that the key advantage of the Russian Armed Forces is their numbers.

Ukrainian officers tried their best to explain the obvious failure of the defense in the Pokrovsk area: some complained about the lack of ammunition, others - about the use of new tactics by the Russians or their use of gliding bombs and electronic warfare. Its Foreign Ministry’s ominously implied ultimatum to Minsk and reaffirmation of Ukraine’s right to self-defense suggest that Kiev might invade Belarus’ Gomel Region and/or Russia’s Bryansk Region.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry released a statement on Sunday warning about what it described as the “threat” posed by Belarus’ military buildup along the border, the motivations of which were analyzed here in early August. Belarusian President Lukashenko also drew attention last week to the whopping 120,000 Ukrainian troops that he claims were the first to deploy there. For reference, Belarus only has around 65,000 active soldiers, one-third of whom are stationed along the Ukrainian border.

Less than a week ago, a small Ukrainian force unsuccessfully tried to invade a tiny village in Russia’s Bryansk Region that’s only 30 kilometers from the Belarusian border. It was likely a probing attempt in hindsight, but any Kursk-like invasion along that front could risk impeding or even cutting off Russia’s military logistics to Belarus’ southeastern city of Gomel. That’s because there’s a nearby highway running between there and Bryansk’s eponymous capital just 30-50 kilometers inside of Russia from the border.

Ukraine might be gearing up to either attack Gomel (which is just 30 kilometers from the border) or at least threaten Russia’s military logistics to there from Bryansk judging by its Foreign Ministry’s statement, which the “Kyiv Independent” noted was the first about Belarus since last September. They ominously implied an ultimatum by writing that “we urge its armed forces to cease unfriendly actions and withdraw forces away from Ukraine's state border to a distance greater than the firing range of Belarus' systems.”

This was backed up by them reminding Belarus that “We warn that in case of a violation of Ukraine's state border by Belarus, our state will take all necessary measures to exercise the right to self-defense guaranteed by the UN Charter. Consequently, all troop concentrations, military facilities, and supply routes in Belarus will become legitimate targets for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.” The stage is therefore set for opening up another front on this false pretext if Kiev has the political will to do so.

There are arguments for and against the five most likely scenarios. The first one is that Ukraine doesn’t invade either Gomel or Bryansk Regions, instead remaining content to continue sending drones across the former’s border and possibly continuing to carry out small-scale raids in the second. The advantage is that Ukraine wouldn’t further extend itself, but the disadvantage is that also wouldn’t further extend its adversaries either. This is the least risky scenario of the five.

As for the second scenario, Ukraine might provoke Belarus into initiating conventional hostilities or orchestrate a false flag to that end. Either could pressure the West into conventionally intervening like Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper reported that it would do if Belarus formally got involved in this conflict. Ukraine might desperately need the pressure relief that such an intervention could bring, but it might either be hung out to dry or the intervention could lead to tensions spiraling out of control.

The third, fourth, and fifth scenarios are similar in that Ukraine could either attack Gomel, Bryansk, or both. This would pose the same risks that the first one would avert with regards to either further extending its own forces and/or its adversaries’. It’s the most dramatic set of scenarios due to how much it would worsen the conflict, but that might be precisely what Ukraine wants if it believes that this could get the West to conventionally intervene in its support, thus implying that it’ll soon lose if they won’t.

Out of these five, while the first would arguably be the best, it appears to be the least likely. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry wouldn’t have made its first statement about Belarus in almost a year if it didn’t believe that this would bring it some sort of benefit, let alone ominously imply an ultimatum and then reaffirm its right to self-defense, which would be twisted to justify aggression in the event that it decides to attack Gomel and/or Bryansk. Something is cooking, and it doesn’t bode well for Belarus.

Beating back the enemy: situation in Kursk Region

MOSCOW, August 26. /TASS/. The Ukrainian armed forces have lost more than 400 servicemen and 27 armored vehicles in the Kursk direction over the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

In total, the enemy has lost more than 6,200 troops since fighting broke out in the region.

The Russian military has repelled attacks by Ukrainian assault groups near Kremyanoye, Malaya Loknya and Nechaev.

TASS has gathered the latest information about the situation.

The operation to destroy Ukrainian formations

- The Northern battlegroup, backed by army aviation and artillery fire, repelled attacks by Ukrainian assault groups in the direction of Kremyanoye, Malaya Loknya and Nechaev, and foiled attacks near Komarovka, Spalnoye, Korenevo, Pogrebki and Olgovka.

- Air strikes, artillery fire and military operations defeated concentrations of enemy personnel and equipment near Apanasovka, Borki, Vishnevka, Viktorovka, Tenth October, Kruglenkoye, Loknya, Mikhailovka, Novaya Sorochina, Plekhovo, Snagost and Yuzhny.

- Russian aircraft hit Ukrainian personnel and military equipment deployment sites in 16 settlements of the Sumy Region.

- The operation to destroy Ukrainian formations continues.

Ukraine's losses

- Over the day, the Ukrainian armed forces lost over 400 servicemen and 27 armored vehicles, including a tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, three armored personnel carriers and 21 armored combat vehicles, as well as five artillery pieces, two mortars, 11 vehicles and a US-made AN/TPQ-50 counter mortar radar.

- Since fighting began in Kursk, the enemy’s overall losses amount to more than 6,200 servicemen, 73 tanks, 33 infantry fighting vehicles, 61 armored personnel carriers, 404 armored combat vehicles, 188 vehicles, 42 artillery pieces, five anti-aircraft missile system launchers, 11 multiple rocket launchers, including three HIMARS and one MLRS, nine electronic warfare stations, two counter-battery radars, an air defense radar, five pieces of engineering equipment, including two engineering demolition vehicles and one UR-77 demining unit.

Evacuation

- The Emergencies Ministry and volunteers reunited 330 families of evacuees from border districts of the Kursk Region, Emergencies Ministry deputy spokesman Artyom Sharov said.

- Over 11,500 evacuees are staying in temporary accommodation centers.

- Almost 1,000 people were evacuated from the border areas in the past day.

Remote learning

- Remote learning has been extended to 11 municipalities of the Kursk Region, the region's Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Nataliya Bastrikova, has announced.

War propaganda and feint are as old as the hills. Nothing new. But what is new is that infowar is no longer the adjunct to wider war objectives - but has become an end in and of itself.

The West has come to view 'owning' the winning narrative - and presenting the Other's as clunky, dissonant, and extremist - as being more important than facing facts-on-the ground. Owning the winning narrative is to win, in this view. Virtual 'victory' thus trumps 'real' reality.

So, war becomes rather the setting for imposing ideological alignment across a wide global alliance and enforcing it via compliant media.

This objective enjoys a higher priority than, say, ensuring a manufacturing capacity sufficient to sustain military objectives. Crafting an imagined 'reality' has taken precedence over shaping the ground reality.

The point here is that this approach - being a function of whole of society alignment (both at home and abroad) - creates entrapments into false realities, false expectations, from which an exit (when such becomes necessary), turns near impossible, precisely because imposed alignment has ossified public sentiment. The possibility for a State to change course as events unfold becomes curtailed or lost, and the accurate reading of facts on the ground veers toward the politically correct and away from reality.

The cumulative effect of 'a winning virtual narrative' holds the risk nonetheless, of sliding incrementally toward inadvertent 'real war'.

Take, for example, the NATO-orchestrated and equipped incursion into the symbolically significant Kursk Oblast. In terms of a 'winning narrative', its appeal to the West is obvious: Ukraine 'takes the war to into Russia'.

Had the Ukrainian forces succeeded in capturing the Kursk Nuclear Power Station, they then would have had a significant bargaining chip, and might well have syphoned away Russian forces from the steadily collapsing Ukrainian 'Line' in Donbas.

And to top it off, (in infowar terms), the western media was prepped and aligned to show President Putin as "frozen" by the surprise incursion, and "wobbling" with anxiety that the Russian public would turn against him in their anger at the humiliation.

Bill Burns, head of CIA, opined that "Russia would offer no concessions on Ukraine, until Putin's over-confidence was challenged, and Ukraine could show strength". Other U.S. officials added that the Kursk incursion - in itself - would not bring Russia to the negotiating table; It would be necessary to build on the Kursk operation with other daring operations (to shake Moscow's sang froid).

Of course, the overall aim was to show Russia as fragile and vulnerable, in line with the narrative that, at any moment Russia, could crack apart and scatter to the wind, in fragments. Leaving the West as winner, of course.

In fact, the Kursk incursion was a huge NATO gamble: It involved mortgaging Ukraine's military reserves and armour, as chips on the roulette table, as a bet that an ephemeral success in Kursk would upend the strategic balance. The bet was lost, and the chips forfeit.

Thanks Tintin for those insights which we really need to hear. It's a fact that Israel has provided military support to Ukraine against Russia.

The international divide is becoming clearer with each passing month. On one side there's the crumbling USA-Israel axis and their vassals, i.e. NATO, EU, Ukraine, with a petro dollar that has begun to collapse. On the other side there is Russia, China, Iran, Syria, Lebannon, Iraq, Yemen, Turkeye (maybe), who are supporting Palestine, plus many African countries and Latin American countries, plus the growing influence of BRICS and gold-backed currency.

As a Canadian I see the increasing signs of deliberate destruction from within of our institutions, culture and economy. Life used to be good in Canada. Not anymore. I feel especially sad for the young people. Same story all over the 'west'. We will miss the western civilization, it had a certain brilliance, mostly gone now thanks to the cabal of psychopaths. So it's just as well that the 'other side' is gaining prominence. Let's hope they do.

Who else suspects that the recent Ukrainian 'surprise' invasion of Russia was, at least in part, to divert Russian military resources away from the middle east cauldron.

Adding a bit of my thoughts here, on the concept discussed above, that Trump and Kennedy are putting israel up high on a pedestal as a strategy for their political survival, and maybe for their physical survival as well, given Israel's history of eliminating opponents. That Trump and Kennedy will change that position as soon as they're elected, at which point they will finally bring Israel down in its place.

Personally I don't think this sort of strategy is going to work, because it is a strategy of weakness. Speaking a lie weakens people, morally, spiritually and even physically. It dishearten other people. It also creates all sorts of compromising 'hooks' that can be grabbed by opponents to hamper a course of action.

On the other hand, look at Putin when he reluctantly first came into the role of Russia's president, when Russia was in a disastrous situation on all levels. Putin didn't kowtow to his western 'masters'. He took the bull by the horns, spoke truth, and pulled Russia out of the pit that the west had dug for it.

▪️On July 18, Alexander Ante and Jose Aron Medina (an ex-military man who worked as a security guard) flew from Warsaw to Madrid, then transferred to a plane to Caracas to get to Bogota. Medina was supposed to get to Colombia by July 19 to celebrate his birthday with his family, writes Colombian El Tiempo.

▪️In the end, Medina and Ante did not make it home. Their trail disappeared in Venezuela - it later turned out that they were detained at the Caracas airport. The militants were wearing Ukrainian Armed Forces uniforms and attracted attention.

Although the United Kingdom formally left the European Union in January 2020 and agreed to make payments—the so-called “divorce bill”—to the tune of about £39 billion, London has reportedly failed to meet its commitments, raising greater doubt that the debt can be paid by the originally agreed 2057 deadline, which has now been extended to 2065. Payment disagreements first emerged in July 2021, when London rejected the European bloc’s estimate of a total bill of £40.8 billion, with the British insisting that the figure was between £35 billion and £39 billion. The disagreement on differing amounts could be a reason why Downing Street has failed to meet its payment commitments, in addition to the priority given to Ukraine aid.

It is recalled that John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said in March: “Taxpayers will be shocked by the billions going to the global quangocracy. The exchequer is pumping huge amounts of cash into major organisations worldwide, which often don’t have British interests at heart. Yet, the public and even many politicians are kept in the dark. Ministers should be honest and transparent about our funding for these organisations.”

All these months later, it appears that Britons are still kept in the dark about the truth behind the true details of the “divorce bill.”

Last month, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) found that Britain’s national debt had reached its highest level since 1962, with the June figures exceeding the peak reached during the coronavirus pandemic. The debt situation is expected to worsen as the newly elected Labour government is pressured to spend more on some public services and to meet the election promises not to raise income tax, corporation tax or VAT rates. Due to this, many economists expect borrowing, and therefore debt, to increase, thus making it even more difficult for London to meet its financial commitments to the “divorce bill.”

The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Darren Jones, said the latest figures were a “clear reminder” of the “worst economic inheritance” since the Second World War.

For his part, Dennis Tatarkov, senior economist at KPMG UK, said: “The new chancellor faces the daunting task of funding the new government’s agenda while maintaining public finances on a sustainable footing.”

“A combination of high levels of spending and weak growth prospects will present uncomfortable choices – deciding between even more borrowing or substantially raising taxes if spending levels are to be maintained,” he added.

The situation is set to worsen for Britain because the larger the national debt, the more interest needs to be paid, meaning that the country is stuck in a cycle that it cannot break out of. If Britain must use more money to pay its debts, it means it has less to spend on the public services it borrowed to fund in the first place.

As Britain struggles to finance its public services at a time when poverty continues to rise sharply, it becomes more difficult to meet its payments to the EU, which is a much lower priority for Downing Street. However, this has a knock-on effect, too, as EU economies are also in a financial downward spiral and struggling with their own debt and cost-of-living crisis. The Europeans expect Britain to meet its commitments so they can alleviate their own issues.

Yet, despite spiraling into deeper debt and citizens suffering economically, British and European leaders continue to prioritise support for Ukraine. Britain alone has spent £12.5 billion on Ukraine in just two and a half years, about a third of what was owed to the “divorce bill.” At the same time, the EU has spent $155 billion in aid on Ukraine as of February 2024, meaning that it would be much higher today. This alone epitomises how the UK and EU are placing greater priority on the vain attempt to defeat Russia in Ukraine.

However, it is due to the very fact that the UK and EU are desperate to deliver Russia a defeat that London’s failure to meet its financial commitments to the “divorce bill” has not become a major issue in their relations, at least in the public sphere. So long as they continue attempting to defeat Russia through their Ukrainian proxy, the EU will not create a public spat with London, while Britons and Europeans alike will remain in the dark, as John O’Connell termed it, about the true terms of the “divorce bill” and Britain’s actual financial commitments to it.

Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers issued a resolution on Tuesday ordering a partial halt to the servicing of its obligations on Eurobonds, sovereign GDP warrants and other loan instruments, driving the country one step closer to formal financial ruin.
Starting September 3, Ukraine will stop servicing its roughly $700 million debt to Cargill Financial Services International, a Minneapolis-registered agribusiness giant. The above debt reportedly fell outside a large-scale debt restructuring agreement announced earlier this month and designed to allow Kiev to stave off defaulting on its obligations.

The government decree instructs the State Treasury to temporarily suspend operations with GDP warrant-related funds, with Kiev last making an 2.89 billion hryvnia ($70.52 million US) payment, corresponding to the deferred payment of earnings and interest accrued from 2021, on July 31. On August 1, the treasury paid a 5.33 billion hryvnia ($130 million) fee for a separate debt restructuring deal reached in 2022. In 2023, Kiev agreed to defer GDP warrant payments to August 1, 2024 with 7.75% interest.

Kiev announced on July 22 that it had reached agreements in principle on the restructuring of some $23 billion in Eurobond debt with a committee of debt holders, with the deal reportedly involving the write-off of up to 37% of the debt, minus 12% if a high level of GDP growth can be restored by 2028.

The remaining debt is set to be reissued as new Eurobonds maturing in between 2029 and 2036, with interest increasing from 1.75% to 7.75% over time. Investors ready to participate in the Eurobond exchange have been offered a 1.25% bonus, with agreements requiring consent of 2/3 of debt holders. The deadline for deal was August 27, 5 pm New York time.
Settlements are expected to be paid out by August 30.

Big Three credit agency S&P Global Ratings downgraded Ukraine’s credit rating earlier this month from CC/C (‘vulnerable/highly vulnerable’) to SD/SD (‘selective default’) after Kiev missed a payment on its Eurobonds. “We do not expect the payment within the bond’s contractual grace period of 10 business days,” S&P said, pointing to Kiev’s July measure “that authorizes the government to suspend payments” on some debt.

A month earlier, Fitch Ratings downgraded Ukraine’s rating from “CC” (‘default imminent with little prospect of recovery’) to “C” – one notch above default.

An anonymous World Bank official told Russian media in March that Ukraine could formally declare bankruptcy in 2025 if Western creditors don’t write off its debts, including obligations to private entities and banks. Ukraine’s budget deficit is expected to hit a record $43.9 billion in 2024, notwithstanding the fact that the country has received upwards of $200 billion in military, economic, and humanitarian aid from Western countries since early 2022.

A top Ukrainian pilot was killed on Monday while flying a US-made F-16 fighter jet, US reports said.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces do not believe that pilot error is behind the incident, says a source of the Ukrainian Defense Forces!

The pilot, Oleksiy Mes, known as "Moonfish", was reportedly killed in the recent major airstrike by Russia against Ukraine, the source said, adding that the pilot was buried on Thursday.

Ukraine took delivery of its first F-16s in early August and has reportedly received just 10 aircraft so far. The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and Belgium have pledged to deliver a total of 79 fighters to Kiev.

Russian forces are fighting Ukrainian forces in Kursk, which is located on the border with Ukraine, after the August 6 cross-border attack on the Russian region by thousands of Kiev troops, which resulted in the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people from the region.

"According to my instructions, the administration of the city of Kursk identified important points for the placement of modular concrete shelters - in crowded places," noted the acting governor of Kursk, Alexei Smirnov, in a post on Telegram.

"American intelligence services have admitted that they provided Ukraine with satellite images of the Kursk region from the beginning of the invasion on August 6," Russian media reported in the last hour.

Ukraine has announced the successful testing of a mystery new ballistic missile. Sputnik asked a veteran Russian military observer and missile expert to comment on the development.

Volodymyr Zelensky teased media in Kiev on Tuesday by revealing that Ukraine had tested its first-ever ballistic missile.
Zelensky did not elaborate on the nature or characteristics of the new weapon, sparking speculation that the ‘new’ missile may have been the Hrim-2 (Russian ‘Grom-2’, lit. ‘Thunder-2’) a prospective tactical missile system announced in 2014, and which got financial backing from a Middle Eastern buyer, but was thought to have been canceled after the US approved the sale of its own missiles to its Mideast allies.

“Zelensky says a lot of things,” Vasily Dandykin, a veteran Russian military analyst, missile expert and retired Navy Captain 1st rank told Sputnik, not ruling out that Zelensky’s new missile claims are just “propaganda” meant to energize Kiev's backers.

Dandykin pointed out that going back to Soviet times, the development of tactical ballistic missiles was left to design bureaus in Russia, with Soviet Ukraine focused on ICBMs, space rockets, anti-aircraft missiles, etc. Ukraine lost even many of these competencies in recent decades.
The analyst doesn’t rule out that Zelensky’s “new” missile could actually be an upgraded Tochka-U – a “serious” Soviet tactical missile design with a 120 km firing range and a highly destructive 420 kg warhead.

Alternatively, Dandykin suggested, it could be an upgraded Oka – a Soviet theater ballistic missile with a 400 km range that was liquidated from Soviet stocks in the late 1980s by Mikhail Gorbachev in a short-sighted gesture of goodwill toward Washington.

The Oka was possessed by three of the USSR’s allies in Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria, and Dandykin doesn’t rule out that Sofia may have transferred the missile tech to Kiev as military aid.
It’s also possible that Ukraine’s defense engineers may try to recreate Russia’s Iskander missile based on whatever remains of it after use.

Lieutenant Colonel Oleksiy Mes was one of the first Ukrainians allowed to fly American fighters. He spent six months in Denmark learning to fly F-16s.

A local deputy writes that Mes was killed on August 26 - during a missile attack on military and industrial facilities in Ukraine.

Friendly Fire Fiasco: Ukrainian Army Shoots Down Its Own F16 Jet, Pilot Killed

It appears that the US-made F-16 fighter jet, which was handed over to Ukraine earlier this year, was downed by a Ukrainian Patriot air defense system in a friendly fire incident, Ukrainian lawmaker Maryana Bezuglaya said cited by TASS (https://tass.com/world/1835893).

"According to my information, the F-16 of the Ukrainian pilot Alexey ‘Moonfish’ Mes was shot down by the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system due to a lack of coordination between the [military] units," she wrote on Telegram.

The lawmaker criticized the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for falsely describing the incident as "a crash."

"The culture of lies in the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as in other higher military headquarters, leads to the fact that the system of managing military decisions does not improve on the basis of truthful, consistently collected analytics, but deteriorates and even collapses, as is happening in the other directions," she wrote.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has expressed frustration over Hungary's refusal to lift its veto on the use of some €6 billion ($6.6) allocated for weapons to Ukraine under the European Peace Facility (EPF).

The EU launched the scheme in 2021, but it came to prominence after Brussels decided to use it to help Ukraine's war effort against Russia. Hungary, a vocal opponent of EU policy on the Ukraine crisis, has been blocking military aid to Kiev for over a year. Among other things, it means that member states cannot be reimbursed for deliveries they have already made.

"I cannot accept to have €6 billion in my current account," Borrell told the media, when asked about the EPF money following an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Thursday. "This money has to go to the member states."

Budapest objects to sending weapons to Ukraine, arguing that the deliveries have failed to alter the course of the conflict and stand in the way of peace talks. It refuses to provide military assistance either directly or through the joint EU budget.

Comment: While Borrell complains about not being able to use €6 billion, Hungary is paying a real price as €20 billion which they are owed, are withheld by the EU as punishment.

While the EPF funds remain unavailable due to Hungarian objections, Borrell said that the EU has transferred to Ukraine some €1.4 billion ($1.5 billion) of Russian money, generated by Russian sovereign assets which the EU immobilized in retaliation for the Ukraine conflict.

Brussels claims it has the right to use the profits as it sees fit. The transfer will "support the Ukrainian [arms] industry at home," Borrell told journalists. Moscow has condemned the EU move as a form of theft.

The high commissioner is a vocal proponent of supporting Ukraine against Russia. Borrell has expressed full EU support for the Ukrainian incursion into Russia's Kursk Region, which Kiev launched earlier this month, urged for long-range strikes on Russia with Western weapons, and has claimed that Europeans "are not a party to the war, but we are part of the conflict.".

Senior Hungarian officials have criticized such remarks, with Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto describing them this week as "madness" that "must be put to an end."

Kursk volunteers evacuated a 98-year-old participant in the Battles of Stalingrad and Kursk. Klavdiya Dmitrievna has no relatives, and she decided not to leave her home right away.

The pensioner lived in Korenevo. Social workers were with her until the last moment, according to volunteer group organizer Maria

Their volunteer Ivan managed to find the right words, and after she agreed, carried her in his arms out of the house and took her by car from Korenev to Kursk.

Klavdiya Dmitrievna was placed in a veterans' hospital and will soon be transferred to a nursing home. According to doctors, she is in excellent health for her age:

Ukrainian troops are seemingly trying to inflict maximum damage on civilian property in the parts of Russia under their control, a senior Foreign Ministry official has said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has tasked Rodion Miroshnik with collecting evidence of Ukrainian war crimes in the conflict. Last week, he visited Kursk Region, which Kiev targeted with a massive cross-border incursion earlier this month.

Evidence on the ground and interviews with dozens of eyewitnesses indicate that Ukrainian forces are deliberately trying to devastate settlements within their grasp, the official told RIA Novosti on Friday.

"There are a huge number of reports of burned out and looted private properties, of auxiliary buildings being destroyed with a purpose. I visited some of such homes literally hours after they got attacked. People were evacuated, but their homes were shot at and burned with a kind of malice," he claimed.

In some instances Ukrainian troops used incendiary munitions, Miroshnik said. Local residents told him that they saw soldiers firing at homes point-blank from armored personnel carriers and cheering when they went up in flames.

Some properties were apparently hit with shrapnel rockets, the diplomat said. Some munitions are armed with thousands of BB pellet-sized metal balls designed to hit enemy manpower in the field with an airburst.

Kiev has deployed thousands of troops into Kursk Region, seizing some border areas but failing to advance deeper into Russian territory. The Ukrainian leader, Vladimir Zelensky, has claimed that the operation was highly successful, citing the capture of Russian border guards, who could be exchanged for Ukrainian troops in Russian custody. Washington has made it “clear” that it cannot provide Kiev with any significant number of MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) in the foreseeable future, CNN reported on Saturday, citing an unnamed US official.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met (https://www.rt.com/news/603337-ukraine-defense-minister-meets-austin/) with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon this week to discuss additional military aid. During the meeting he reportedly presented him with a list of “high-value” targets that Kiev would like to strike, deep inside Russia, using American-made weapons.

In an interview with CNN after the meeting, Umerov claimed that Ukraine is pushing to lift the ATACMS restrictions for “self-defense,” arguing that “the airfields being used to hit our cities are within the range of deep strikes.”

Ukraine is fighting for Donbass because of the region's vast natural resources, which Kiev and its foreign backers want to exploit, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday.

I am in Kursk and want to report on my first impressions, because the war in Kursk is very different from what I know from the Donbass.

I am currently in Kursk to get an idea of the situation on the ground and would like to share my first impressions here. The first thing I noticed in Kursk were the air raid sirens. In Kursk, it seems like there are air raid sirens every hour and sometimes you can hear anti-aircraft guns firing. That is a big difference to Donetsk, for example, where I never heard air raid sirens but always heard explosions.

The city of Kursk itself seems peaceful and life goes on as normal. If it weren't for the constant sirens, as a foreigner you wouldn't even notice that there is a war going on nearby. However, restaurants are now closing earlier because there are fewer customers, and many people prefer to stay at home at the moment.
The completely different war

It's different when you leave the city. I was with a group of volunteers who bring humanitarian aid to people in the countryside and to soldiers. In Russia, a lot of donations are made to the soldiers and volunteers bring it to them practically directly at the front. We mainly had drinking water and drones with us.

I've heard before how much the war has changed. A year ago I was on the front line in Donbass , which was of course scary because you constantly hear explosions and the whistling of artillery shells over your head. But in general you had a certain feeling of security in the trenches because it was quite unlikely that a grenade would "fall directly on your head", as they say here.

This has changed thanks to drones. Kamikaze drones are hard to see, and when you do see them, it is usually too late. And they are aimed specifically at soldiers in trenches or moving cars. That is the first thing that was different from Donbass: We already put on protective vests and helmets in Kursk because there is a risk that you could be suddenly and deliberately attacked by a drone on the country road.

We had a jammer and a drone tracking device in our car. The device sounded the alarm several times and we had to switch on the jammer so that the drone pilot would lose contact with the drone and not be able to attack us. This gives a false sense of security, because the tracking devices are anything but 100% reliable. Incidentally, one of the drones we tracked was made in America. On the way, we also saw anti-aircraft missiles being fired repeatedly.

What makes things in Kursk even more scary is the fact that there is no clear front line in Kursk - unlike in the Donbass. The Ukrainians basically fanned out after entering the Kursk region and you never really know whether there might be a Ukrainian shock troop in the next bush. This also makes warfare in Kursk very difficult, because in fact the situation is completely confusing.

In contrast to the Donbass, you always have a sinking feeling in your stomach when you leave Kursk and head west. In addition, the drones have an ever greater range and therefore the danger of targeted fire begins 30 kilometers from the "gray zone" where the fighting is taking place.

I was not directly at the front (or what they call the front here). But when we delivered the humanitarian aid in the evening, it was already dark and we saw gigantic flashes of light on the horizon that lit up half the horizon. They probably used "Fabs" there, which are Russian aerial bombs weighing up to three tons. Another journalist from Donetsk said that he often saw these light effects at the end of the battle for Avdeevka, when the Russian army attacked the Ukrainian fortifications with "Fabs".
The displaced

What I am particularly interested in on this trip is how people here are dealing with the situation. I was in a refugee center and spoke to many people. The refugees are well looked after, they were very happy with the accommodation and food, but many complained about the authorities because there was no orderly evacuation. The authorities were obviously completely overwhelmed by the Ukrainian surprise attack on August 6th, at least people told how they had to flee on their own with a few belongings because the authorities had not organized anything. I don't know if that was the case everywhere, but I was told about a few specific places.

Many were so surprised by the attack that it was already too late for them to flee. The Russian Emergency Ministry has a hotline that people can call and report friends and relatives left behind. The ministry then works with the army to evacuate these people in special operations if they live in contested areas. However, nothing can usually be done for people who live in areas controlled by Ukraine.

A foundation has made a name for itself here, founded in 2022 by Jana Tschaikina, a young woman, and originally only provided humanitarian aid. After the attack on Kursk, however, it also put together evacuation teams of volunteers who risk their lives to sneak through mined forests and fields to evacuate people from contested or even Ukrainian-occupied territory. I spoke to Jana and her volunteers, whose stories really send a chill down your spine. I will translate and publish the interviews.

The evacuees said that the first soldiers to arrive were Poles. They behaved "bestially" and it was only when Ukrainian soldiers arrived that things became somewhat bearable, the refugees say. According to the statements I heard, the Ukrainians, provided they were regular soldiers and not units from the nationalist associations, behaved properly towards the civilians. However, according to the stories, the Poles shot at civilians indiscriminately, aiming for their legs, and then left the people to die on the streets. To my surprise, I also heard of Israeli mercenaries.

The nuclear power plant

One of the helpers I was traveling with works full-time at the Kursk nuclear power plant. Incidentally, I could see the nuclear power plant from a distance as we drove west.

The man said that the situation at the nuclear power plant is more serious than even the Russian media reports. According to him, the nuclear power plant is attacked by drones several times a day, which is far more dangerous at the Kursk nuclear power plant than at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The reason is that the Kursk nuclear power plant is a Chernobyl-type nuclear power plant, which means that there is no protective concrete shell around the reactor. The Kursk nuclear power plant is therefore much more at risk from attacks than the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

With biting irony, the man told of the recent visit to the nuclear power plant by Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency. According to him, that was the only day on which there was no air raid warning at the plant. The Ukrainians showed "their best side" that day, but resumed shelling the next day.

Russians Destroy 3 US HIMARS Missile Artillery Systems In Ukraine In One Go today

The European Union has “taken note” of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Mongolia and expressed regret that the government in Ulaanbaatar did not detain their guest.

Putin spent two days in Mongolia, engaging in bilateral talks and marking the 85th anniversary of the WWII victory over Imperial Japan at the Battle of Khalkhin Gol.

“President Putin is under an arrest warrant by the ICC for international crimes, specifically alleged crimes of unlawful deportation and unlawful transfer of children,” the EU said in a statement on Tuesday.

”The EU regrets that Mongolia, a State Party to the Rome Statute of the ICC, did not comply with its obligations under the statute to execute the arrest warrant,” the bloc added.

The ICC issued a warrant for Putin’s arrest in March 2023, despite having no jurisdiction over Russia. Moscow has rejected the court’s accusations as baseless.

The Russian president traveled to Mongolia at the invitation of his counterpart, Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, and met with top officials in Ulaanbaatar to discuss the two countries’ strategic partnership.

Both Ukraine and the ICC demanded Putin’s arrest from Mongolia, but the Kremlin said it had “no concerns,” as all issues had been worked out with Ulaanbaatar in advance.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who accompanied Putin to Mongolia, said it is natural for people with “Nazi-like deeds” to worry about two neighbors who fought side by side in WWII.

A kindergarten was irreparably destroyed in a large-scale Ukrainian shelling of the Russian city of Belgorod overnight, local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov has said. Following the attack, a decision was made to close dozens of others and transfer some local schools to remote learning, he added.

At least 11 civilians, including two children, were wounded in Ukrainian strikes targeting various parts of the city, Gladkov wrote on Telegram on Monday morning. Nine of the victims required hospitalization, with five of them being in serious condition, he added.

"It is not a good morning here in Belgorod Region. There has been another shelling of Belgorod. The missiles made it through. A kindergarten in Belgorod has been almost completely destroyed,” the governor wrote in a post on Russia’s VK social network.

It is the third educational institution in the city to have suffered significant damage as a result of Ukrainian attacks, following previous hits on another kindergarten and a school, he said.

A decision was made to shut down three dozen kindergartens for a week in the city district of Kharkovskaya Gora, located in the south of Belgorod, closest to the Russian-Ukrainian border, Gladkov announced.

Almost two dozen schools in the area would also switch to remote learning, he added. This Monday, September 2, is the day when the school year begins in Russia. Children typically attend kindergartens for several years, before entering the first grade at about age 7.

The governor acknowledged that working parents might be unhappy about the closure of the preschools, but stressed that protecting the lives of the children was a priority.

Gladkov said that he had already visited the affected kindergarten, adding that if the strike had occurred during the day when the children were inside, “no one would have had a chance to survive.”

Around a dozen communities across Belgorod Region also came under Ukrainian shelling and drone attacks during the night. One person was killed in the village of Shagarovka, with at least six more civilians being wounded in other locations, including the town of Shebekino, according to the governor.

The Russian regions of Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk, which all border Ukraine, have been a frequent target of cross-border attacks since February 2022. However, the bombardment of Belgorod has intensified over the past few weeks amid the stalling of the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk Region and Russian advances in Donbass.

Lavrov asserted that Moscow was not going to play by Western rules and will not “embed itself into various schemes created without our participation and without taking Russia’s interests into account.”

For decades, the Americans and their allies “sought total control over Ukraine. They funded nationalist and anti-Russian organizations there; they persistently worked to convince Ukraine that Russia was its eternal enemy and the main threat to its existence,” the Russian leader said.

M1A1 Abrams and Leopard 2A6 tanks were captured in Avdiivka yesterday

Recent footage from Russian Army units on the frontlines near the critical town of Avdiivka in the contested Donbas region has unveiled the recovery of a disabled German-supplied Leopard 2A6 main battle tank used by the Ukrainian Army, alongside a more severely damaged American-supplied M1A1 Abrams tank.

The Leopard 2A6 and M1A1 Abrams are among the most formidable tanks in Ukraine’s arsenal. Notably, NATO members have supplied these in smaller quantities compared to other models like the Leopard 2A4, Leopard 1, and T-72. The Leopard 2A6 first appeared on the frontlines in June 2023 and quickly began to sustain significant losses against Russian forces. Meanwhile, the Abrams made its combat debut in February 2024, specifically around Avdiivka.

Although most engagements involving the Abrams have taken place around Avdiivka, several have also been deployed to support a Ukrainian and allied offensive into the Russian Kursk region, which commenced on August 6. The first confirmed destruction of an Abrams in this theater occurred in the third week of August.

Russian forces have previously captured numerous Abrams and Leopard 2 tanks, including both the Leopard 2A4 and Leopard 2A6 models. Most Leopard 2s and Abrams tanks delivered to the region have been captured, neutralized, or destroyed. Western nations face significant challenges in replacing these losses.

The first confirmed loss of an Abrams tank occurred on February 26, just three days after these vehicles were first spotted in combat. Multiple losses have followed since then. Notably, one of these defeats happened in the first week of March when a Russian T-72B3 tank successfully engaged an Abrams tank.

Facing substantial losses in February and March, the Ukrainian Army decided to pull back its remaining Abrams tanks by late April due to growing concerns about their vulnerability. However, the losses have continued to mount, with notable incidents on May 3 and July 30, where guided artillery successfully targeted these tanks, destroying them on video.

A recent kill, captured on video on August 11, shows a drone achieving the feat. With Russia already possessing Leopard 2A6 and M1A1 Abrams tanks, many in better condition than the latest captures, their value beyond propaganda is uncertain.

A major problem is that these tanks, designed in the 1970s and 1980s, are not equipped to counteract the advanced anti-tank capabilities fielded by Russian forces. The Leopard 2A6, for example, has shown particular vulnerability to Russian anti-tank missiles, which have advanced significantly since these tanks were initially designed. Unlike modern Russian tanks often equipped with advanced reactive armor to counter such threats, the Leopard 2A6 lacks adequate protection against the latest anti-tank munitions, leading to several notable losses on the battlefield.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba tendered his resignation to the national parliament on Wednesday, according to Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, amid an ongoing purge by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.

Four other cabinet members; Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishina, Minister for Strategic Industries Aleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Justice Denis Maliuski, and Minister of Environmental Protection Ruslan Strilets were also relieved of their posts by Zelensky on Tuesday. Prime Minister Denis Shmigal will reportedly keep his job, the outlet claimed.

Rumors about Kuleba’s imminent departure began circulating as soon as the other changes in the cabinet were announced.

The Ukrainskaya Pravda newspaper previously claimed that Kuleba’s most likely replacement will be Andrey Sibiga, a former ambassador described by the outlet as both Zelensky’s deputy chief of staff and Kuleba’s own deputy. The prediction on Tuesday evening cited a source in Zelensky’s office.

The cabinet purge comes after the official expiration of both Zelensky’s presidential mandate and that of the Ukrainian parliament. The Ukrainian constitution provides only for the extension of parliamentary terms, but Zelensky has argued the martial law announced in February 2022 allows him to postpone all elections indefinitely.

Meanwhile, some sources in Kiev have told Western outlets that Zelensky’s chief of staff, movie producer Andrey Yermak, de facto runs the country. Zelensky’s office has denied this.

Nothing came of that rumor, however, and Kuleba continued browbeating the West into giving Kiev more weapons, ammunition and cash to fight against Russia.

“If decisions are taken, Ukraine is successful on the ground. If they are not taken, then do not complain about Ukraine, complain about yourself,” Kuleba told EU foreign ministers last week, demanding “bold decisions” from the bloc. Kiev has been blaming restrictions on the use of weapons provided by the US and its allies for its deteriorating frontline fortunes.

After Brussels, Kuleba went to Poland, where he managed to offend his hosts – and a key country for supplying Ukraine with Western aid – by calling certain Polish territories “Ukrainian lands” and suggesting that the displacement of ethnic Ukrainians from Poland’s territory in 1947 was equivalent to the massacres of Poles by Ukrainian nationalists that Warsaw has described as genocidal.

Russian Forces Capture Prechystivka, Breaching Ukrainian Defenses Near Vuhledar

The Russian Defense Ministry has officially confirmed the capture of Prechystivka, a settlement located in the South Donetsk direction, by units of the "Vostok" group. According to the ministry, marines from the 40th Brigade and motorized riflemen of the Eastern Military District expelled Ukrainian forces and secured the area two days ago. Prechystivka was considered a crucial part of the Ukrainian defense around Vuhledar.

Russian forces are reportedly continuing their advance, breaking through Ukrainian defensive flanks. The Ukrainian military analysis resource DeepState, which is linked to Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), acknowledged the loss of Prechystivka with a delay last evening. Other Ukrainian military analysts reported on the morning of September 4th that "by the end of September 3rd, Russian forces had captured the remaining western part of Prechystivka and established control along forest strips spanning up to 3.4 kilometers."

Further east, near the "Yuzhnodonbasskaya No. 1" mine, Russian troops have secured positions along a forest strip approximately 2.1 kilometers wide and are continuing their assault on the mine's territory. South and east of Vodyane, Russian forces have established control around the "Mylʹnyy" pond, on the outskirts of residential areas, and along forest strips, occupying a stretch up to 3.6 kilometers wide and 1.72 kilometers deep.

▫️Units of the Sever Group of Forces supported by Army Aviation and artillery repelled two attacks launched by enemy assault detachments in the direction of Malaya Loknya and Komarovka. ‘Demoralizing blow to Ukraine’: What legacy media are saying about Russia’s strike on Poltava military college

Russian missiles demolished a military academy in Poltava, central Ukraine on Tuesday. Russia’s Defense Ministry said Wednesday that the attack targeted the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ 179th Joint Training Center, engaged in the preparation of signalmen, electronic warfare specialists and drone operators, including troops taking part in strikes against civilian targets in Russia.

What are Western media saying about the attack?

▪️The narrative has gradually shifted over the past 24 hours, with the earliest reports simply regurgitating Ukrainian officials’ statements, including the claim that the attack targeted “an educational institution and a hospital” (no mention of the military academy) and quoting Zelensky, who used the occasion to demand more weapons from NATO, including long-range strike systems, and vowed to make Russia “pay.”

▪️ But the tone gradually changed, with some outlets at least starting to mention in headlines that the strike targeted a military institution.

▪️ In its piece, The New York Times called the attack “a demoralizing blow to Ukraine,” which came “as its troops have been retreating from relentless Russian advances along the war’s main front in the Donbas region.”

▪️ Britain’s The Times dubbed the attack “one of the worst airstrikes” since the start of the conflict in 2022, noting that the “educational facility” mentioned by Kiev was actually “the Poltava Military Institute of Communications,” and mentioning that “Ukraine’s land forces [had] confirmed that service personnel were killed during the strikes.”

Russia provides details of strike on Ukrainian military training center
Moscow’s forces have carried out a high-precision strike on a Ukrainian training center in the city of Poltava, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed on Wednesday. The facility was housing a number of foreign instructors who were training Kiev’s troops in communication, electronic warfare, and drone operation, according to Moscow.

The strike was initially reported by Ukrainian officials, who stated on Tuesday that two Russian Iskander ballistic missiles had hit the School of Military Communication and Information Technology, resulting in the nearly 300 casualties, including nearly 50 killed.

While the Russian Defense Ministry did not initially comment on the attack, it confirmed the strike in an update on Telegram on Wednesday. Scott Ritter Says Ending Cooperation With RT, Sputnik Due to US Sanctions

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter, who works as a political analyst now, said that US sanctions force him to end his cooperation with RT and Sputnik, and thanked his Russian colleagues for the professionalism they have shown over the past few years.
The US Department of the Treasury issued a statement on Wednesday to announce sanctions against the Rossiya Segodnya media group, RIA Novosti, RT, Sputnik and Ruptly. The sanctions affected Rossiya Segodnya and RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan and a number of other senior executives.

"The actions by the Department of the Treasury in levying new sanctions against RT, Sputnik, and other Russian media organizations has made it impossible for me to continue my work as an outside contributor for RT and Sputnik, as well as participating in interviews and other collaborations with other Russian media," Ritter said on X.

"I reject the notion that the work I have done over the past years with the newly sanctioned Russian media organizations has been anything other than legitimate journalism, the content of which has been factually correct and analytically sound, and always of my own creation," Ritter said.

"Nonetheless, I am fully committed to obeying US law, and as such will be terminating all contractual relationships with both RT and Sputnik effective immediately, as well as suspending my participation in any and all media interaction with sanctioned individuals and organizations until which time it is deemed lawful to do so by US authorities," Ritter said.

Russian Missile Strikes Destroyed Hidden Warehouse With ATACMS Missiles In Odessa Region today

On the evening of September 4, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a series of strikes in Ukrainian rear regions. At night, the strikes continues.

Russian strikes were reported in the Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv regions and in the areas under Ukrainian control in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

At about 8 pm local time on September 4, explosions thundered in the southern Odessa region. According to preliminary reports, Russian Iskander-M missiles destroyed a facility used for service and storage of MGM-140 ATACMS missiles supplied by NATO to Ukraine. The military facility was hidden by the Ukrainian and NATO militaries on the territory of an agricultural enterprise near the village of Gribovka. As a result of the strikes, a large fire broke out at the facility.

The MGM-140 is a tactical ballistic missile that can be fired from the tracked M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) and the wheeled M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), both are already in service with Kiev forces.

Kiev forces first deployed the ATACMS in October 2023. At the time, Ukraine received a limited number of ATACMS missiles from the U.S. However, the missiles were of the older M39 Block I version, which has a range of 165 kilometers. This version is armed with a cluster warhead with 950 M74 bomblets. This batch was quickly used within a few weeks. Then, Kiev forces resumed attacks with ATACMS missiles after secretly receiving around a hundred units from the U.S. These missiles were of a newer version with a longer-range. The U.S. supplied the M39A1 Block I which are armed with a cluster warhead with 300 M74 bomblets and have a range of 300 kilometers, or with the M48 QRU and M57 Block IA versions which are both armed with WAU-23/B unitary warheads and have a range of 270 and 300 kilometers respectively.

The tactical ballistic missiles can be fired from the tracked M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) and the wheeled M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), both are already in service with Kiev forces.

The destruction of a military warehouse with ATACMS is an important victory, since Kiev forces ude them to attack targets in Crimean, or deeper in Russian territory. The Russian military has means to intercept the missiles, like the S-300V4 and S-400 air defense system. The effectiveness of recent Ukrainian attacks with these NATO missiles was quite low, but the strikes still result in damage to Russian military and civilian infrastructure. No Place To Hide: Ukrainian Soldiers Grinded On Front And In Rear today

Fleeing from the frontlines, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempt attacks in the Russian rear regions with drones and unmanned boats. The Russian military responds with devastating strikes on Ukrainian hideouts throughout the country.

On the night of September 5, Russian forces repelled another attack of Ukrainian unmanned boats in the Black Sea. Usually Ukrainian boats are operating in the western waters of the Black Sea, where they attempt attacks on the Crimean peninsula and the city of Sevastopol. In particular, on September 4, four Ukrainian boats were destroyed in the area.

But last night, they were spotted in the northeastern waters of the Black Sea. The target of their attack was likely the city of Novorossiysk, which hosts a large port. As a result of the attack, two Ukrainian unmanned boats were destroyed. No damage was reported on the Russian coast.

A new wave of strikes began in the evening of September 4 and continued all night. After Russian massive attacks inflicted heavy damage to Ukrainian infrastructure, the recent strikes are mainly targeting Ukrainian manpower accumulated in rear regions.

The devastating strikes on Ukrainian manpower began on September 3, when Russian Iskander missiles destroyed the training center in Poltava, killing hundreds of Ukrainian servicemen specialists trained by foreign instructors in electronic warfare and operation of UAVs. On September 4, Russian missiles struck targets in the western city of Lviv. They included facilities of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, like military airfield, and accommodations of Ukrainian officers and foreign mercenaries. In recent days, several hotels full of militants were destroyed throughout eastern Ukraine, including in Zaporozhie, Krivy Rih, Kramatorsk etc.

Last night, Pokrovsk was covered with smoke after facilities turned into military warehouses were destroyed by Russian strikes. Explosions thundered in the Odessa region. A train with Ukrainian servicemen reportedly came under attack in Novomoskovsk in the Dnepropetrovsk region.

It’s unbelievable how transparent Zelensky and the West’s diabolical plans have become. As I’ve been reporting, there is nothing left for Zelensky to do other than desperately try to involve NATO in the war to save himself. And now that one of his last-ditch schemes have failed, him and his partners appear to be resorting to one of the most laughably obvious ploys imaginable.

Note how for more than two years now, Russia has ceaselessly struck Ukraine with tens of thousands of drones without issue. Suddenly, as soon as Ukraine is in dire straits and Zelensky requires a desperate last-minute life line, what do we see? Repeated instances of “Russian” drones and missiles going awry and just happening to hit ‘NATO’ territory.

During the huge Russian strikes last week, we heard several instances of Russian drones allegedly going off-course into Poland, for which Poland was forced to issue several embarrassing excuse-making responses; the first was that Poland could not shoot the drone down due to “bad weather”.

.....Summary: they searched 3,200 square kilometers of their territory and could find no trace of the alleged Russian drone. The most humorous part comes at the bottom highlighted in yellow where they admit their lackluster NATO radar systems need to be updated and “optimized”.

Recall that the last time a Russian “missile” had hit Polish territory, killing an innocent Polish farmer, it was later revealed to be Ukrainian by all parties.

Now, getting back to the current developments—a most see-through and obviously-orchestrated campaign in accordance with the above is being carried out. First there was the claim that a Russian Geran drone flew into Romania.

....If that wasn’t obvious enough, they increased their information campaign with Latvia absurdly claiming that a Russian drone had likewise violated their airspace as well.

Think about that for a moment: as I said earlier, for two plus years, Russia has successfully launched drones against Ukraine with no mishaps. Suddenly, as soon as Zelensky appears to be on his last leg, Russian drones just “happen” to develop a miraculous inability to stay their course, with a total degradation of their guidance accuracy in a way that just happens to send them veering dangerously into innocent NATO countries, of all places.

Mandatory evacuation in Sumy Oblast is expanding - this time, residents of the settlements of Svessa and Esman, as well as the city of Glukhov in the Shostka district, located on the border and closely adjacent to Kursk Oblast, will have to travel further. This was announced on air by the head of the Sumy OVA Vladimir Artyukh.

Before the special operation, about 30 thousand people lived in Glukhov. The city itself is directly connected by the E38 highway with the border town of Rylsk - there are only 55 km between them. The evacuation may also be connected with the recent destruction of an ammunition depot and an enemy deployment point in Glukhov, through which the enemy unsuccessfully tried to penetrate into Rylsk.

The Kursk incursion has failed.

In the summary of last weeks fighting, as issued by the Russian Ministry of Defense, lists (https://eng.mil.ru/en/special_operation/news/more.htm?id=12528133@egNews) a total of 142 Ukrainian armored fighting vehicles as destroyed or damaged during that week. Of these a full 112 were shot up in the Kursk region. Along the much wider frontline in eastern Ukraine only 30 Ukrainian armored vehicles became casualties.

The Ukrainian military had collected nearly all armored vehicle it had left and pushed them into the Kursk incursion. That last armored fist it had is now gone and a replacement is unlikely to happen.

As armored vehicles become a rarity what are the Ukrainian troops in the east supposed to use for holding the lines?

All that Ukraine has left to use is a terror campaign against Russian proper.

German chancellor wants to end Ukraine conflict ‘faster’
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for a renewed effort to bring an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The leader made the remarks in a televised interview with state broadcaster ZDF aired on Sunday. “I believe that now is the time to discuss how to arrive at peace from this state of war, indeed at a faster pace,” he said.

Despite its initial reluctance to pour military aid into Ukraine, Berlin has become one of Kiev’s top backers amid the conflict. Germany has supplied the Ukrainian military with assorted hardware, including Leopard 1 and 2 main battle tanks, as well as Marder infantry fighting vehicles.

Scholz’s comments about achieving peace in Ukraine as soon as possible come as he continues to struggle with assorted domestic problems. According to a poll published by ZDF separately on Sunday, some 77% of Germans believe Scholz to be a weak leader, while only 17% speak favorably about his leadership qualities.

The poll has apparently marked the worst approval ratings shown by Scholz during his tenure, with some 74% of respondents believing the chancellor should not become the frontrunner for the Social Democratic party in the September 2025 federal election.

Scholz’s ruling coalition suffered painful setbacks during regional elections last week, showing poor performances in Thuringia and Saxony, in the former East Germany. The two major regions have seen the rise of the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the recently formed left-wing populist Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW).

Both parties, despite being on the polar sides of the spectrum, strongly oppose Germany’s enduring involvement in the conflict in Ukraine, mass immigration, and related economic hardships blamed on the Scholz government.

Nuland confirms West told Zelensky to abandon peace deal

The US, UK and other backers of Ukraine told Kiev to reject the deal reached at the 2022 Istanbul peace talks with Russia, former US under secretary of state Victoria Nuland has said.

In an interview with Russian journalist Mikhail Zygar, former editor-in-chief of the liberal news channel Dozhd, which aired on Thursday, Nuland was asked to comment on reports that the peace process between Moscow and Kiev in late March and early April 2022 collapsed after then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson traveled to Ukraine and told Vladimir Zelensky to keep fighting.

“Relatively late in the game the Ukrainians began asking for advice on where this thing was going and it became clear to us, clear to the Brits, clear to others that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's main condition was buried in an annex to this document that they were working on,” she said of the deal being discussed by the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Türkiye’s largest city.

The proposed agreement included limits on the kinds of weapons that Kiev could possess, as a result of which Ukraine “would basically be neutered as a military force,” while there were no similar constraints on Russia, the former diplomat explained.

“People inside Ukraine and people outside Ukraine started asking questions about whether this was a good deal and it was at that point that it fell apart,” Nuland said.

The veteran diplomatic hawk, who during her time in the State Department was renowned for her hostility towards Russia, quit the post of under secretary of state for political affairs in March this year. Nuland played a key role in the violent Western-backed coup in Kiev in 2014, which toppled Ukraine’s democratically elected president, Viktor Yanukovich.

During the escalation between Moscow and Kiev in February 2022, she called for deeper US involvement in the conflict and advocated for Ukraine to be armed with increasingly sophisticated weapons. However, in February, the 63-year-old essentially acknowledged the failure of her longstanding policy of containing Moscow, telling the CNN that modern Russia had turned out to be “not the Russia we wanted.”

During her conversation with Zygar, Nuland confirmed that both Moscow and Kiev were eager to seek a diplomatic solution a month after the outbreak of the fighting.

“Russia had an interest at that time in at least seeing what it could get. Ukraine, obviously, had an interest if they could stop the war and get and get Russia out,” she said.

US officials “were not in the room” during the talks in Istanbul, only offering Kiev “support” in case it were needed, she claimed.

Putin said last week that the only reason the Istanbul deal failed was because of “the wish of the elites in the US and some European nations to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia,” adding that Boris Johnson served as the messenger to quash the peace process.

The negotiations in Türkiye yielded a draft agreement, which would have ended the hostilities, Putin recalled. Kiev was willing to declare military neutrality, limit its armed forces, and vow not to discriminate against ethnic Russians. In return, Moscow would have joined other leading powers in offering Ukraine security guarantees, he stressed.

According to the Russian leader, talks with Kiev are still possible, but can only happen “not on the basis of some ephemeral demands but on the basis of the documents that were agreed and actually initialized in Istanbul.”
