The Infinity Spectrum - Light, Shadow and Dark Aspects of Life & Existence
~~~~
So... this is a thread about the different aspects of life and existence - more specifically that of its light, shadow and dark aspects, which in turn could be further broken down into even more interpretations, concepts and thought-ponderings of such. Covering just about anything from the nature of space and time, to the wonders and not-so-wonders of peanut butter and jelly, or anything else in between. This applies to both the literal and figurative aspects of such. And anything else that one can possibly think of, relating to the subject at hand. Expect there to be deep, philosophical discussions here. In fact, this is highly encouraged.
A general rule of thumb when posting:
Try to keep descriptions for each aspect as "short" as you can. On average, one to two sentences should suffice, or even a few words and phrases that don't add up to a complete sentence. This is not a hard and fast rule though. Anything/everything is allowed, though let's try to keep discussions PG-13, or whatever the moderators/staff of the site deem appropriate here.
I'll go first.
***
Mystery
Light Aspect: Mystery in its light and uninhibited form, gives the truth-seeker, mystery enthusiast and explorer of life a means to keep searching, an unquenchable thirst or thrill in which to continue to strive ever onward towards learning and spiritual growth. Mystery in this sense, is beautiful in its absolute and ultimate infinity of possibilities, those that are, were, will eventually be, and might very well be, as long as it gives one fulfillment and comfort in both its answers and especially that of its non-answers that it does or does not give a person, group, mass collective, etc.
Shadow Aspect: The general unknown can be scary, especially if one does not know whether being ignorant of such can harm one or keep one safe, as ignorance is not always bliss.
Dark Aspect: Secrets and shadows in all their obscurity where there is no light to shine upon them to expose them and whatever vileness they may be hiding deep within. Inclusive knowledge known only to a select few, darkness, the dangerous occult, etc., all fits into this category.
***
Book
Light Aspect: Simply put, knowledge and ideas in textual, formatted form used to educate and enlighten. The very idea of someone or something being "an open book", which means they have no secrets, and therefore no ulterior motives or hidden agendas.
Shadow Aspect: Trying to sift between what is true and what is false applies to books as well, as not all books contain factual information based on truth and higher knowledge. They could very well be used as intended to educate, entertain, provide answers and the like, but could just as easily be used to mislead, misguide, confuse, etc., being someone's fabricated version of what's really out there.
Dark Aspect: A lot of books are pretty much a means in which to spread disinformation in order to brainwash/mind-control the masses into believing and accepting a synthetic reality imposed upon by the ones who wrote such to begin with.
***
Water
Light Aspect: Water is both life and medicine. For without water, we die. Be free and malleable like water, go with the flow and be willing to change one's course if needed.
Shadow Aspect: If I, as a human, were to open my eyes underwater, I would only see a blurry image or scene in front of me, unless I were wearing goggles. Though if I were an aquatic creature, like say a fish or a mermaid, my vision underwater would be much clearer. Water that has been poisoned can be purified, and vice-versa.
Dark Aspect: Water can drown/suffocate a person if submerged for too long. Water that is dark and stagnant is dead water and does not support life or life systems in general. The whole idea of "I sense deep water here...." in regards to a murky or questionable situation.
***
Fire
Light Aspect: Fire in its good and light form is purifying and sacred. Fire provides both warmth and light, and overall fuels the nature of life and that of existence in general. A diseased forest cannot grow if one does not use fire in which to clear out the rot first. Fire of the spirit or soul, that which gives us strength to weather through anything. Example fictional? powers include Holy Fire, Healing Fire, Life Fire, White Fire, Eternal/Grand Fire, etc.
Shadow Aspect: Fire is both renewing and destructive. How it can manifest in terms of both a literal and a figurative thing depends upon the amount of good/light and/or evil/darkness within a person or being, and how they ultimately choose to manifest such "fire" in their lives and in the lives of others, as well as the very world around them.
Dark Aspect: Fire is known to be extremely destructive if left uncontrolled, and is a huge maimer, killer and destroyer of much. Example fictional? powers include Hell-Fire, Dark Fire, Nuclear Fire, Explosive Fire, Poison Fire, etc.
***
Air
Light Aspect: Air is the breath of life. Without it, we suffocate. Freedom, creativity and communication unleashed that is used for the good of us all.
Shadow Aspect: Air can apply to many gaseous and elemental substances, life-giving oxygen and detrimental carbon dioxide to name a couple examples. "Air" in terms of 'aether', 'pure ether' or just 'ether' can be either good or bad, depending on whether one is using such to gain answers, knowledge and fulfillment in their life, or is slowly becoming an "ethereal fairy" because of it due to having developed "bizarre" quote unquote ideas that make them seem permanently high and not "living in reality" (whatever that means anymore, if it ever meant anything at all).
Dark Aspect: "Air" in terms of its gaseous form, can be extremely harmful, such as being exposed to methane gas and being forced to breathe that in. One who spouts out a bunch of "hot air" and does not know what they are talking about.
***
Earth
Light Aspect: Earth is the foundation of life. It nurtures us in so many ways, ie: food, drink, a roof over our heads, natural ingredients and nutrients, etc.
Shadow Aspect: Earth in a general sense can both comfort and sustain, as well as block, bar and/or inhibit in some way, shape or form.
Dark Aspect: The idea of being buried alive and with no way to escape. The burying of memories and other things one does not wish to remember or to keep from others is bad and could have serious repercussions.
***
Moon
Light Aspect: The moon (and those of lunar bodies in general) have long been associated with dreams, hopes, psychic abilities, reaching for the stars, etc. "The cow jumped over the moon." Perhaps because it was happy? "Shoot for the moon when it comes to one's dreams and life aspirations. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars."
Shadow Aspect: The moon (and lunar bodies in general) can hide many secrets, those of both good and bad... The allure of moonlight is not always a good thing, though it is not necessarily always sinister either.
Dark Aspect: The dark side of the moon. Mooning someone else in order to cause them embarrassment or confusion, etc., though could just as easily embarrass themselves in this act. Often associated with madness, insanity, lunacy, werewolves, vampires, etc.
***
Sun
Light Aspect: The sun (and that of solar bodies in general) is both life and light, as well as signifying that of healing, renewal, and the piercing through of any/all illusions. A mystical symbol of hope, awareness, and that the dawn of tomorrow will bring about yet another day in which to try again.
Shadow Aspect: Untold mysteries surround the origin and nature of the sun (and that of solar bodies in general). Which are true (and good), and which are not?
Dark Aspect: The sun (and all solar/stellar bodies) can also be very destructive too, such as in the case of radiation, ultraviolet rays, sunburn, blindness, etc. Then there's the whole sinister idea that the 'L' guy is associated with the sun. True or not? Who knows? Regardless, it is listed under this section all the same.
***
Star
Light Aspect: A source of cosmic light and stellar beauty from afar for those who love to sky gaze/star gaze. Stars themselves can have many positive meanings, life, light, hope, potential, cosmic knowledge, etc.
Shadow Aspect: From afar, stars can be beautiful. Up close, they can be much more frightening and scary.
Dark Aspect: Should one get too close to a star, they would be completely incinerated. Not even ash would remain, probably not even "pink glitter" either. A supernova would completely wipe out anything/everything nearby it, should one not have the foreknowledge or means in which to combat it beforehand.
***
Spoon
Light Aspect: At its most basic function, a spoon allows one to eat certain foods easily, such as soup or another type of brothy mixture. A spoon also has to do with curvature, which in its metaphorical sense, can allow one to go around or "bypass" a certain problem or situation they couldn't otherwise avoid the "normal" way.
Shadow Aspect: If I were to twist a spoon with my hands somewhat, it would have the ability to bend and contort to fit the situation. If I were to twist it too much, it is very liable to break under the pressure I am inflicting upon it.
Dark Aspect: Being 'spoon fed' false information to the masses and not bothering to seek out one's own truth implies a kind of spiritual infancy and the dangerous inability to think for oneself, taking everything one sees, hears, etc., at face-value, not bothering to question otherwise.
***
Crossroads
Light Aspect: The choice in which path one wants to ultimately take... Freedom and liberation without limits or restrictions of any kind.
Shadow Aspect: The very meaning of a "crossroads" would imply a point in which the road forks off into two or more different pathways that branch out from it, and may or may not be the "event horizon" should one choose poorly...
Dark Aspect: The general unknown of what is to be found along each point or pathway, which can no doubt cause people to fear, doubt, or be misled to take the wrong path, if they choose not to listen to their inner voice, and were to instead listen to the snake or hellhound sitting right there in the middle of such a crossroads or somewhere just off to the side of it....
***
Ceiling Fan
Light Aspect: The ability to flick a switch or pull on the chain of said ceiling fan in which to circulate fresh air, cool down a warm, humid, and generally uncomfortable room, and to provide air flow in which to breathe more easily.
Shadow Aspect: One can get addicted to the need for a ceiling fan if they are not careful... Not to mention become dependent on it, should it break or malfunction in any way.
Dark Aspect: Too much cold or "free-moving" air can give one a cold or respiratory infection, and is usually not needed in the winter time.
***
Chocolate
Light Aspect: Chocolate is essentially a mood enhancer, and can temporarily combat dark/heavy feelings and emotions of depression and despair, as seen in one of the Harry Potter movies when the students of Hogwarts were given chocolate bars in which to help recover from the vicious attacks of Dementors. Plus, it just tastes so d**n good! :p
Shadow Aspect: The whole phrase of "Is chocolate divinely good or devilishly good?" pretty much sums this up right here....
Dark Aspect: Chocolate has a ton of sugar in it (depending on the type of chocolate one were to eat/partake of), and can easily become a health concern, causing high triglycerides, weight gain, severe addiction, etc.
***
Coffee
Light Aspect: Mentally stimulates both brain and body to enhance one's physical and mental performance throughout the day. Plus, it tastes really good if you add all kinds of creams, sweeteners, and the like to the mix, therefore turning it into a 'fufu' drink that is no longer bitter to the tongue. Coffee may even be able to decrease the chances of getting cancer, should one drink enough of it.
Shadow Aspect: Coffee can easily become addictive, though is good in moderation.
Dark Aspect: Too much caffeine is bad for the body and mind, and can cause overstimulation of senses, being unable to sleep, gives one "the jitters" and the like. Withdrawal from having no coffee for awhile is a real b***h, or so I've heard. Too much coffee can also make one's bodily PH levels acidic.
***
Rock
Light Aspect: "Be like a rock and calmly observe one's overall surroundings" is a good meditational/mindfulness strategy. Rocks do not react, they just are. Perhaps we should all be more like rocks? :p
Shadow Aspect: Observing calmly is all great and stuff, but fails to hold up to inspection for long, should one wish to break free of the "rock mentality" and do something else besides just "sit there" and be a lump of stone.
Dark Aspect: Being too "rocky" is akin to that of being dense and an outright dumb blockhead, unable to change one's viewpoints because they are content to just "sit there" and not think of ways in which things could be different. In this way, they are stagnant. Any major change to their structures, they are unlikely to ever adapt and will likely break into a multitude of pieces if so.
More to be added later.
Feel free to chime in with your own thoughts, ideas and whatnot of the different aspects and facets of our light, shadow and dark multi-faceted existence.
Edit: This is merely a creative exercise in philosophical thinking. The point of this? To think and to ponder, not to find definitive answers to anything. And it's as simple as that.
Also feel free to put an already talked about concept and theorize it in your own terms; ie: I talk about my own version of what 'mystery' means to me, but someone else somewhere would no doubt have their own take on it. All is good, all is welcome, as long as it remains constructive and philosophically liberating in its vast scope of ultimate possibilities.
Any questions on any of the above, just let me know.
