Amazon's Sidewalk program

Amazon is greatly expanding their surveillance network, and if you have
an Amazon surveillance device such as Ring or Echo they will
automatically sign you up in a week (June 8th) unless you opt out. It
uses your wifi for your neighbors' Amazon devices and their wifi for
yours.

It seems Amazon no longer considers Amazon devices to be personal surveillance devices but instead as part of a larger surveillance network that is designed to never go down due to a single person's network going off line.

I read about this a while ago and it sounds like a disaster for privacy.

They have basically put a LORA Long Range Radio in all of their devices that could function as a backdoor to your network, sounds like they are turning them on June 8th, definitely something most people would want to turn on off.

I worked for Amazon once (home office client service). Worst employer you can imagine. You are worth nothing to them, just a number and a resource to exploit.

My internet provider, (Comcast) has been giving away free wifi, much the same way for years, without many of their customers knowing.

They did this without telling their customers that while they are paying for the service, and the power, their router was essentially a hotspot for others in the vicinity. If I remember correctly, they faced multiple lawsuits for doing this without telling the customers actually renting the devices, and they were made to both pay for that and acknowledge that they were doing this.

I am of the opinion that there truly isn't any way to secure completely any internet traffic these days, and they knew this long ago... For every one person creating a secure experience, there would be 10 trying to find a way to break into it.
