Over the last year, a growing number of progressives and liberals have pointed to police killings of unarmed black men, rising carbon emissions and extreme weather events, and the killing of trans people as proof that the United States has failed to take action on racism, climate change, and transphobia. Others have pointed to the war on drugs, the criminalization of homelessness, and mass incarceration as evidence that little has changed in the U.S. over the last 30 years.

And yet, on each of those issues, the U.S. has made significant progress. Police killings of African Americans in our 58 largest cities declined (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0063093626?pf_rd_r=F2HSAY31EYE6EV5KQK4D&pf_rd_p=8fe9b1d0-f378-4356-8bb8-cada7525eadd&pd_rd_r=d8fc4e5e-411e-413a-bcc4-c7e9700ef5d4&pd_rd_w=r9nFn&pd_rd_wg=CyRop&ref_=pd_gw_unk) from 217 per year in the 1970s to 157 per year in the 2010s. Between 2011 and 2020, carbon emissions declined (https://rhg.com/research/preliminary-us-emissions-2020/) 14 percent in the U.S., more than in any other nation, while just 300 people died from natural disasters, a more than 90 percent decline over the past century. Public acceptance of trans people is higher than ever (https://www.prri.org/research/americas-growing-support-for-transgender-rights/). The total US prison and jail population peaked (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0063093626?pf_rd_r=F2HSAY31EYE6EV5KQK4D&pf_rd_p=8fe9b1d0-f378-4356-8bb8-cada7525eadd&pd_rd_r=d8fc4e5e-411e-413a-bcc4-c7e9700ef5d4&pd_rd_w=r9nFn&pd_rd_wg=CyRop&ref_=pd_gw_unk) in 2008 and has declined significantly ever since. Just 4 percent of state prisoners, who are 87 percent of the total prison population, are in for nonviolent drug possession; just 14 percent are in for any nonviolent drug offense. And many large cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle have effectively decriminalized public camping by homeless people.

Progressives respond that these gains obscure broad inequalities, and are under threat. Black Americans are killed at between two to three times the rate of white Americans, according to a Washington Post analysis (https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/investigations/police-shootings-database/) of police killings between 2015 and 2020. Carbon emissions are once again rising (https://www.nbcnews.com/science/environment/carbon-emissions-2021-pass-pre-pandemic-levels-report-warns-n1264591) as the U.S. emerges from the covid pandemic, and scientists believe global warming is contributing to extreme weather events. In 2020, Human Rights Campaign found (https://www.hrc.org/resources/fatal-violence-against-the-transgender-and-gender-non-conforming-community-in-2021) that at least 44 transgender and non-gender conforming people were killed, which is the most since it started tracking fatalities in 2013, and already that number has reached 45 this year. Drug prohibition remains in effect, homeless people are still being arrested, and the U.S. continues to have one of the highest rates of incarceration in the world.

But those numbers, too, obscure important realities. There are no racial differences (https://www.wsj.com/articles/what-the-data-say-about-police-11592845959) in police killings when accounting for whether or not the suspect was armed or a threat (“justified” vs “unjustified” shooting). While carbon emissions will rise in 2021 there is every reason to believe they will continue to decline (https://rhg.com/research/preliminary-us-emissions-2020/) in the future, so long as natural gas continues to replace coal, and nuclear plants continue operating. While climate change may be contributing to extreme weather events, neither the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change nor another other scientific body predicts it will outpace rising resilience to cause an increase in deaths from natural disasters. Researchers do not know (https://news.berkeley.edu/2021/06/25/why-is-anti-trans-violence-on-the-rise-in-america/)if trans people are being killed disproportionately in comparison to cis-gender people, if trans homicides are rising, or if trans people are being killed for being trans, rather than for some other reason. Twenty-six states have decriminalized (https://drugpolicy.org/issues/drug-decriminalization) marijuana, and California and Oregon have decriminalized and legalized, respectively, the possession of all drugs. Progressive District Attorneys in San Francisco (https://www.sfexaminer.com/news/data-shows-chesa-boudin-prosecutes-fewer-shoplifters-than-predecessor/), Los Angeles (https://www.ocregister.com/2021/06/25/progressive-das-shake-up-tough-on-crime-status-quo/) and other major cities have scaled back prosecutions against people for breaking many laws related to homelessness including public camping, public drug use, and theft.

And yet many Americans would be surprised to learn any of the above information; some would reject it outright as false. Consider that, despite the decline in police killings of African Americans, the share of the public which said police violence is a serious or extremely serious problem rose (https://apnews.com/article/us-news-ap-top-news-racial-injustice-politics-police-728b414b8742129329081f7092179d1f) from 32 to 45 percent between 2015 and 2020. Despite the decline in carbon emissions, 47 percent of the public agreed (https://surveys.google.com/reporting/survey?hl=en&survey=fiwik4eqdpprwfcg6l45soh6xu) with the statement, “Carbon emissions have risen in the United States over the last 10 years,” and just 16 percent disagreed. Meanwhile, 46 percent of Americans agree (https://surveys.google.com/reporting/survey?hl=en&survey=fiwik4eqdpprwfcg6l45soh6xu) with the statement, “Deaths from natural disasters will increase in the future due to climate change” and just 16 percent disagreed, despite the absence of any scientific scenario supporting such fears. And despite the lack of good evidence, mainstream news media widely reported (https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-usa-lgbt-crime-trfn-idUSKCN24V3FY) that the killing of trans people is on the rise.

The gulf between reality and perception is alarming for reasons that go beyond the importance of having an informed electorate for a healthy liberal democracy. Distrust of the police appears to have contributed (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/22/upshot/murder-rise-2020.html) to the nearly 30% rise in homicides after the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests last year, both by embolding criminals and causing a pull-back of police. A growing body of research (https://www.cnbc.com/2021/09/14/young-people-say-climate-anxiety-is-affecting-their-daily-life.html)finds that news media coverage of climate change is contributing to rising levels of anxiety and depression among children. And there is good reason to fear that misinformation about the killing of trans and non-gender conforming individuals contributes to anxiety and depression among trans and gender dysphoric youth.

"A federal appeals court has ruled that a private Catholic high school in Indiana had the right to not continue employing two different guidance counselors who had entered into marriages that conflicted with the school’s religious principles.

On Thursday, a three-judge panel on the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled (pdf) unanimously that the Roncalli High School, the private Catholic school, could terminate its employment relationship with guidance counselors Michelle Fitzgerald and Lynn Starkey, after learning that both had entered into respective same-sex marriages.

Ms. Fitzgerald had worked with the Catholic school for 14 years in the guidance department, but in 2018 the school declined to renew her annual employment agreement. After Ms. Fitzgerald was placed on administrative leave, Ms. Starkey came forward to inform the school that she too was in a same-sex marriage. The Catholic school similarly chose not to renew Ms. Starkey’s one-year employment agreement.

Circuit Judge Amy J. St. Eve, an appointee of President George W. Bush, heard the case alongside Circuit Judges Michael Brennan and Joel Flaum, who were both appointed by President Donald Trump.

The two laid-off guidance counselors challenged the Catholic school’s decision in federal court, arguing that it violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, citing employer discrimination on the basis of sex. The school defended its employment decision, arguing that Title VII includes a ministerial exception, so as to not violate the portion of the First Amendment that states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

The private school argued that Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Starkey did serve in a ministerial capacity as part of the school’s administrative council. The private school had also implemented, with Ms. Fitgerald’s assistance, an evaluation process for its employees that “seeks to identify in specific ways” how those employees are living out the school’s religious mission and tenets.

The school also contended that during the course of her employment as a guidance counselor, Ms. Fitzgerald emphasized her use of religious teaching in her guidance counseling practice. According to the ruling, Ms. Fitzgerald argued that she had exaggerated her religiosity to advance her continued employment.

“Fitzgerald now contends that she exaggerated her involvement in the religious components of the school because ‘it was part of the rubric’ and she ‘wanted to get a raise in pay.” But this does not help her case,” the court ruling states. “Even if we accept that she exaggerated on her evaluation and did not actually perform these religious duties, the fact that she mentioned these activities in her self-evaluation to get a raise supports that she understood these criteria to be important to the school.”

Defense Declares Victory For Religious Schools
Becket Law, a law firm focused on religious liberty cases, celebrated the court’s decision on Thursday.

“Religious schools exist to pass on the faith to the next generation, and to do that, they need the freedom to choose leaders who are fully committed to their religious mission,” said Joseph Davis, a member of Becket Law’s counsel. “The precedent keeps piling up: Catholic schools can ask Catholic school teachers and administrators to be fully supportive of Catholic teaching.”

“Today’s ruling is common-sense: decisions about who conveys the Catholic faith to Catholic school children are for the Church, not the government,” Davis added. “Many parents entrust their children to religious schools precisely because those schools help to pass on the faith, and this victory ensures they remain free to do so.”

Rachel Laser, President and CEO of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, which supported Ms. Fitzgerald’s case, condemned the court’s ruling on Thursday.

“Shelly Fitzgerald, like most employees at religious organizations, wasn’t hired to minister to students or to preach the Catholic religion. She was hired to provide secular guidance to students seeking to get into college,” Ms. Laser said on Friday. “She should not have lost her civil rights simply because the secular work she performed was done at a religious school.”

Ms. Laser placed the appeal’s court’s decision alongside the U.S. Supreme Court’s last month in the case of 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis. In that case, the Supreme Court ruled 6–3 in favor of a Christian website designer who wanted to be able to refuse to design websites that conflicted with her religious views, including her views on same-sex marriage.

“Religious extremists are waging a crusade to undermine basic civil rights and won a disturbing victory before the Supreme Court in the 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis case just two weeks ago,” Ms. Laser said. “Shelly Fitzgerald’s case was another line of attack. These religious extremists are trying to expand a narrow, commonsense rule – meant to allow houses of worship to select their own clergy according to their own faith – into a broad license to circumvent civil rights laws and to discriminate.”

NTD News reached out to Ms. Fitzgerald’s attorneys for further comment about the case and possible plans for appeal, but did not receive a response by the time this article was published."

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a bill banning sex reassignment surgeries into law on Monday. The legislation, aimed at tighter regulation of what MPs described as the “transgender industry,” bans legal sex changes and medical interventions associated with transitioning except due to serious medical grounds.

Administration of drugs and surgeries associated with gender reassignment therapy will now only be permitted in cases that require treatment of reproductive organ deformities in children. Only licensed clinics linked to the Russian Health Ministry can now make decisions on such treatments and issue relevant certificates, the legislation says.

People can also no longer freely change their sex on IDs and other documents. Those who did so may not adopt children under the new law. Married couples can also have their marriages declared invalid if one of the spouses changes their sex.

According to Russian Deputy Health Minister Evgenia Kotova, over 2,000 people legally changed their sex in the country between 2018 and 2022, when the practice was legal.

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin blasted what he called the Western transgender industry as he defended the reasoning behind the law. The number of gender reassignment surgeries in the US has increased by 50 times over the past 10 years, he said, adding that around 1.4% of all US teenagers aged between 13 and 17 identified themselves as transgender in 2022.

“This is the path leading to the degradation of a nation,” he said, stating that the newly adopted law was designed to avoid such a scenario.

The legislation still allows for the treatment of relevant diseases. “There are conditions that can be identified during childhood,” he said. “Yet, when a person changes sex because they woke up in the morning and decided they are not a boy but a girl, that is just wrong,” the Duma head explained.

According to the top Russian senator, Valentina Matvienko, the law has received “many positive responses from European nations.”

Trans rights activists still blasted the law, arguing that it seriously diminishes the rights of transgender persons in Russia. Critics also claimed that the legislation’s wording creates uncertainty related to treatment of certain diseases not linked to gender reassignment procedures, like mastectomy for women genetically predisposed to breast cancer.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that all such issues had been reviewed by experts while the bill’s text was still being debated in parliament. “All those questions were answered,” he said, adding that risks associated with the law had been minimized.

A Native American group has threatened a national boycott of the Washington Commanders unless the NFL team reverses course and changes its name back to the Washington Redskins.

The Native American Guardians Association (NAGA) wrote on Twitter — now X — that the group, along with its Founder and President Eunice Davidson, have sent a letter to the “Washington ‘Commanders’ Ownership & Key Leadership Formally Requesting The Team Revitalize it’s Relationship With The American Indian Community & Rightfully Change Their Name Back to ‘The Redskins.'”

The letter talked about the history of the Washington football team and it’s relationship with the Native American community dating back to its 1933 season when they were named the Boston Redskins.

“At this moment in history, we are formally requesting that the team revitalize its relationship with the American Indian community by (i) changing the name back to ‘The Redskins’ which recognizes America’s original inhabitants and (ii) using the team’s historic name and legacy to encourage Americans to learn about, not cancel, the history of America’s tribes and our role in the founding of this Great Nation,” the letter read.

“Should we need to encourage a national boycott similar to what happened with Anheuser Busch (Bud Light) which is now down $27 billion (note, not one brick thrown, not one highway blocked, not one bridge burned) — WE WILL DO JUST THAT,” the letter added.

Yes... Well, we don't need everyone to wake up. We just need ENOUGH of them to wake up. The tide is turning. And, I think it's happening faster now than ever before. Chin up! The NAS here is attempting to stand against the subversion of the academy, and science in particular, from the assaults on freedom of thought and expression by woke ideology. Increasingly, I'm seeing people like Krauss (and Pinker and Dawkins) assume the role as champions of traditional academic values (reason, merit, free discourse) against the barbarian hordes.

And yet, couldn't it be said that precisely because of the materialist ideology that they have been promoting in the name of science all these years, they have helped bring about the state of affairs in the academy that they are now lamenting — in which woke ideology subverts all that they deem precious in the academy and science?


An Offense Against Reason

Scientific materialism is the view that science functions to advance materialism. Darwin is this atheistic ideology's principal prophet.

Two Plus Two Equals...?

It really makes no sense, on evolutionary grounds, therefore to remonstrate with woke ideologues for denigrating reason, dismissing merit, or censoring speech. Math, we are now told, is discriminatory because only the privileged are put in an educational setting where they can learn and excel at conventional math. And so, rather than try to raise the math skills of the un- or under-privileged, we are enjoined to treat math as a free play in which all answers are as good as any others (thus we now see taken seriously that 2 plus 2 need not equal 4).

Granted, I'm no fan of the deplatforming, the censorship, the celebration of mediocrity, the inversion of traditional morals, the flouting of conventional sensibilities in which woke ideologues revel.

My point, though, is that woke ideology did not arise in a vacuum but is the logical outworking of a materialistic worldview in which humans are meat puppets evolved through a process that has no foresight or purpose and thus that gives life no greater meaning or destiny. And for people without the advantages (privileges) of a Krauss or Pinker or Dawkins, who do not find their identity in being valiant defenders of reason and science, challenging reason and science has a liberating appeal.


A world of reason is a world of constraints. It's a world in which some things are so and not otherwise, and where if you don't bend yourself to those constraints, you will be broken. There is something liberating about denying constraints. The old Army commercial slogan said "Be all you can be." Woke ideology says "Be anything you can imagine yourself to be."

Podcast giant Joe Rogan spoke last week about how he left California because of left-wing politics running amok in the state. Rogan recalled how he once was part of the "blue bubble" in that he was a "left-leaning person who lived in Los Angeles" who "never voted Republican." However, while he said he remains "way more left than I am right," he argued, "California went nuts, man. It's gone like full communist. It's out of its f-----g mind."

He continued to slam his former state, saying, "Their approach to law enforcement is so insane. It's so insane. The no cash bail, the letting people out for committing violent crimes, the f-----g not stopping people for stealing up to whatever money is, was it $900 now? I think they raised it. I think they made it a little higher."

"San Francisco is nonexistent," Rogan added. "San Francisco — most of San Francisco is emptied out of like big chain stores and big department stores." While Rogan asserted that the structure of the city is still there, it would require "some hardcore Rudy Giuliani type motherf----r to come in there and knock heads, and nobody wants that, nobody wants that, they're 'peace, love and granola and f-----g wear a mask.'"
Rogan and comedian Bobby Lee both marveled at how they find themselves now identifying as being in the "middle" politically.

"It only happened this last year," comedian Bobby Lee recalled. "I just went, 'I can't do it anymore.' You know, the people that you thought you were aligned with you are now mad at you about s---."

"They're in a cult," Rogan said. "They're attacking like somebody attacks religious beliefs." Rogan said to even voice concerns about men using transgender rules to infiltrate women's bathrooms, "to even say that those guys are real, you get excommunicated, you get treated like you're a nazi."

Lee said he "never even cared about it." "Whatever you want, I don't give a s---, you know what I mean? But it's like, I can't do it anymore," he added. Rogan moved from California to Texas in 2020 and opened a cancel-proof comedy club in Austin last year.

I wouldn't call it "hilarious" as Mark Dice says. This is scary, vile, reprehensible. In my view, this is meant to be part of our collective conditioning (Marxist tactics deployed). They are laughing at us, showing us how easily they can manipulate/rewrite our society/history. This is the undermining of norms, tradition, sense of nationality -- the erasure of an entire ethnic group of people. Online democide. Then, they pretend to back-pedal... just a wee bit. The globalists are monsters and they are relentless. They will keep pushing. If anything, this helps to wake people up to resist the tyranny the globalists are actively imposing upon us on multiple levels.
