Retiree Who Took Up Mountaineering at Age 68 Conquers Everest at 75

RIEc8TXALPY
A 75-year-old retired attorney from Chicago recently became the oldest American to ever conquest Everest, the world’s tallest mountain top. The craziest thing is that he had only started mountaineering 7 years prior.

Arthur Muir, a married father of three and grandfather of six, had been fascinated with mountain climbing ever since his father gave him a book about the Himalayas when he was a child, and that fascination only grew when Barry Bishop, a legendary climber and conqueror of Everest, visited his high-school in 1964. However, he never followed his dream of picking up mountaineering until a friend convinced him to do so, seven years ago, but once he did, he couldn’t stop.

The oldest person to ever conquer Mount Everest is Japanese mountaineer Yuichiro Miura, who managed the feat in 2013, at age 80. At age 75, Muir just became the oldest American to ever do it, beating the record set by Bill Burke, who was 72 when he climbed Everest in 2014.

“So I was aware of it, but it wasn’t my main focus,” the elderly climber said. “I was actually very concerned about making sure that I had the reserve energy, I had the ability to actually get down safely. I was just surprised when I actually got there, but I was too tired to stand up, my summit picture, I am sitting down.”

Although Muir currently has no idea how he’ll top this monumental achievement, it’s safe to say he won’t be hanging up his mountaineering boots just yet. After all, he’s only been at it for seven years.

I think this story fits the brief. It does seem oddly comical how this poor man died.

Don't mess with farmers in the North of England, they're very much 'stand no nonsense' people.

This guy blocked the farm entrance with his car... the farmer moved it out the way. Locals have said on social media that this motorist has been known for trouble-making in the area.

German amusement park ride that looks like swirling swastikas shut down by embarrassed owner

https://www.rt.com/news/466822-germany-amusement-ride-swastikas/

Some design flaws are disastrous, others simply leave you red-faced. The owner of an amusement ride in southern Germany had it shut down after realizing that from a distance it looked like a pair of swirling swastikas.

The gaffe happened to a ride called ‘Eagle Fly’ in the Tatzmania park in the town of Löffingen. At its core is a time-honored pendulum-style thrill ride, where you take a seat in one of the eagle-shaped gondolas, to get lifted into the air and spin in a vertical plane.

The caveat is that the eight gondolas are in two groups of four, and when seen from a distance they make two very distinct reverse swastikas, the same that the Nazis used as their symbol.

The ride opened in late July, but it was not until journalists from the broadcaster SWR showed up that owner Rüdiger Braun noticed the design flaw. He said he was taking it out of service and apologized to anyone offended by the ride. Those eagles will take flight again only when the manufacturer makes them look more appropriate.

I have a small collection too. Unfortunately not in this country. Sometimes it it just the headline that cracks me up. Other times the whole story sums up profound insight into a person in a head shaking way.

Man who spotted ‘UFO’ on Google Maps dismayed to find it’s just bird poo
Source (https://metro.co.uk/2021/07/08/man-who-spotted-ufo-on-google-maps-dismayed-to-find-its-just-bird-poo-14894857/)

A Redditor who thought they’d found evidence of a flying saucer on Google Maps was brought swiftly back down to Earth by the comments.
‘I think you found bird s**t on the camera,’ is the top response to a post entitled ‘Did I just find photos of a UFO/UAP??!!’ from user @joshmanchaz.
The picture, culled from Google’s Street View service, does indeed appear to show a UFO-type craft over a house in the US.

Until you look a bit closer and the truth becomes apparent.
It really is just a smear of bird poo on the lens of the camera.

Another member of the thread joked: ‘Interdimensional bird turds?’.
While another user chimed in: ‘Omg haha… have you used Google street view much?
‘It’s full of artefacts from the stitching of the 360 cameras. This is certainly one of them.’
