My personal short story:

When you see the bars going down ... I instantly train myself to hear the harmonics before it is actually played ... although I am NOT a professional at all ... I seem to be able to predict in my head (inner ear) what it "sounds like" BEFORE you actually can hear the sounds.

My stepmother played piano in our living room when I was 12 years old up to 17 years old ... Listened to all kinds of piano music when I was young of age ... but never took any piano lessons.

I also noticed that when listening to 5th, 7th & 9th Symphony of Beethoven at that age I could study (do homework) from school much better ... I only have to read things once and I can almost recall all of it ... When I am listening to other "modern music" the opposite happens >> I had trouble studying, doing my homework, and got lower grades ... But with classical music something magical happens within my brain.

The key is (was) I did it all voluntary, no one pushed me to listen to classical music ... in the beginning I thought it was "way to complex" ... much later I can recall most Symphonies without notes without hearing the music ... All memorized in my head ...
