President Donald J. Trump has revealed dominating plans to compete with the radical left media with the formation of Trump Media & Technology Group.

Trump Media & Technology Group, which is chaired by President Trump, has merged with Digital World Acquisition Corp. to become a publicly listed company with a potential valuation of up to $1.7 billion, a Wednesday press release from TMTG states.

The media company intends to “create a rival to the liberal media consortium and fight back against the ‘Big Tech’ companies of Silicon Valley, which have used their unilateral power to silence opposing voices in America,” the statement explained.

The first order of business for TMTG will be to roll out a new social media platform called “TRUTH Social,” which President Trump said will “stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.”

“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech. We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced,” the 45th president added.

“This is unacceptable. I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon,” said Trump. “TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech.”

“Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!” he teased.

TRUTH Social will be launched in early 2022. Future users can sign up to get on the invite list at www.truthsocial.com.

In addition to a new social media platform, TMTG will also “launch a subscription video on demand service (TMTG+). TMTG+ will feature ‘non-woke’ entertainment programming, news, podcasts, and more.”

President Trump’s latest move sends a powerful message to Big Tech platforms which continue to silence and suppress alternate viewpoints that their days are numbered. Not only is he pursuing legal action against them, but he is also moving to compete with them on their own turf.

When TRUTH Social is officially launched, millions of people worldwide will flock to the platform where they will not be censored for holding an alternative viewpoint to the mainstream narrative.

Interesting. Trump alone perhaps has the business clout to pull this off. It's a potentially dangerous move though. He'd still be a pretty small fish in a large, dangerous pond. It also remains to be seen how popular it would be, given the monopoly of existing platforms.

The "woke" level of the left needs opposition in order to continue the victimization and cancel culture element of the culture. You were the person I had in mind when I added that! I knew it would be your first reaction. And it really was mine, too.

I applaud the idea of a non-woke, common sense, or just 'free speech' platform, but if it's to be a purely pro-Trump clubhouse, attracting conservatives only, what is the point?

They have their truths to share, fine. But non-conservatives who believe in another truth will never get to see them. The fact the Trump owns it and will be running it is not exactly an incentive for democrats to join the discussion!

I can imagine the trolls are licking their lips though. When they arrive, and they will, it will turn into a slugfest. Then the bitching will start, and then the banning, and we're back to square one.

"One of the many pressing stories that remains to be told from the Snowden archive is how western intelligence agencies are attempting to manipulate and control online discourse with extreme tactics of deception and reputation-destruction. It’s time to tell a chunk of that story, complete with the relevant documents.

Over the last several weeks, I worked with NBC News to publish a series of articles about “dirty trick” tactics used by GCHQ’s previously secret unit, JTRIG (Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group). These were based on four classified GCHQ documents presented to the NSA and the other three partners in the English-speaking “Five Eyes” alliance. Today, we at the Intercept are publishing another new JTRIG document, in full, entitled “The Art of Deception: Training for Online Covert Operations.”

By publishing these stories one by one, our NBC reporting highlighted some of the key, discrete revelations: the monitoring of YouTube and Blogger, the targeting of Anonymous with the very same DDoS attacks they accuse “hacktivists” of using, the use of “honey traps” (luring people into compromising situations using sex) and destructive viruses. But, here, I want to focus and elaborate on the overarching point revealed by all of these documents: namely, that these agencies are attempting to control, infiltrate, manipulate, and warp online discourse, and in doing so, are compromising the integrity of the internet itself.

Among the core self-identified purposes of JTRIG are two tactics: (1) to inject all sorts of false material onto the internet in order to destroy the reputation of its targets; and (2) to use social sciences and other techniques to manipulate online discourse and activism to generate outcomes it considers desirable.

To see how extremist these programs are, just consider the tactics they boast of using to achieve those ends: “false flag operations” (posting material to the internet and falsely attributing it to someone else), fake victim blog posts (pretending to be a victim of the individual whose reputation they want to destroy), and posting “negative information” on various forums. Here is one illustrative list of tactics from the latest GCHQ document we’re publishing today:

GCHQ describes the purpose of JTRIG in starkly clear terms:


“using online techniques to make something happen in the real or cyber world,”

including “information ops (influence or disruption).”

Critically, the “targets” for this deceit and reputation-destruction extend far beyond the customary roster of normal spycraft: hostile nations and their leaders, military agencies, and intelligence services. In fact, the discussion of many of these techniques occurs in the context of using them in lieu of “traditional law enforcement” against people suspected (but not charged or convicted) of ordinary crimes or, more broadly still, “hacktivism”, meaning those who use online protest activity for political ends.

The title page of one of these documents reflects the agency’s own awareness that

it is “pushing the boundaries” by using “cyber offensive” techniques against people

who have nothing to do with terrorism or national security threats, and indeed, centrally involves law enforcement agents who investigate ordinary crimes:

No matter your views on Anonymous, “hacktivists” or garden-variety criminals, it is not difficult to see how dangerous it is to have secret government agencies being able to target any individuals they want

– who have never been charged with, let alone convicted of, any crimes – with these sorts of online, deception-based tactics of reputation destruction and disruption.

There is a strong argument to make, as Jay Leiderman demonstrated in the Guardian in the context of the Paypal 14 hacktivist persecution, that the “denial of service” tactics used by hacktivists result in (at most) trivial damage (far less than the cyber-warfare tactics favored by the US and UK) and are far more akin to the type of political protest protected by the First Amendment.

The broader point is that, far beyond hacktivists, these surveillance agencies have vested themselves with the power to deliberately ruin people’s reputations and disrupt their online political activity even though they’ve been charged with no crimes, and even though their actions have no conceivable connection to terrorism or even national security threats.

As Anonymous expert Gabriella Coleman of McGill University told me, “targeting Anonymous and hacktivists amounts to targeting citizens for expressing their political beliefs, resulting in the stifling of legitimate dissent.” Pointing to this study she published, Professor Coleman vehemently contested the assertion that “there is anything terrorist/violent in their actions.”

Government plans to monitor and influence internet communications, and covertly infiltrate online communities


in order to sow dissension and disseminate false information,

have long been the source of speculation. Harvard Law Professor Cass Sunstein, a close Obama adviser and the White House’s former head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, wrote a controversial paper in 2008


proposing that the US government employ teams of covert agents and pseudo-”independent” advocates to “cognitively infiltrate” online groups and websites, as well as other activist groups.

Sunstein also proposed sending covert agents into “chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups” which spread what he views as false and damaging “conspiracy theories” about the government.

Ironically, the very same Sunstein was recently named by Obama to serve as a member of the NSA review panel created by the White House, one that – while disputing key NSA claims – proceeded to propose many cosmetic reforms to the agency’s powers (most of which were ignored by the President who appointed them).

But these GCHQ documents are the first to prove that a major western government is using some of the most controversial techniques to disseminate deception online and harm the reputations of targets. Under the tactics they use, the state is deliberately spreading lies on the internet about whichever individuals it targets, including the use of what GCHQ itself calls “false flag operations” and emails to people’s families and friends. Who would possibly trust a government to exercise these powers at all, let alone do so in secret, with virtually no oversight, and outside of any cognizable legal framework?

Then there is the use of psychology and other social sciences to not only understand, but shape and control, how online activism and discourse unfolds. Today’s newly published document touts the work of GCHQ’s “Human Science Operations Cell,” devoted to “online human intelligence” and “strategic influence and disruption”:

We submitted numerous questions to GCHQ, including: (1) Does GCHQ in fact engage in “false flag operations” where material is posted to the Internet and falsely attributed to someone else?; (2) Does GCHQ engage in efforts to influence or manipulate political discourse online?; and (3) Does GCHQ’s mandate include targeting common criminals (such as boiler room operators), or only foreign threats?

As usual, they ignored those questions and opted instead to send their vague and nonresponsive boilerplate: “It is a longstanding policy that we do not comment on intelligence matters. Furthermore, all of GCHQ’s work is carried out in accordance with a strict legal and policy framework which ensures that our activities are authorised, necessary and proportionate, and that there is rigorous oversight, including from the Secretary of State, the Interception and Intelligence Services Commissioners and the Parliamentary Intelligence and Security Committee. All our operational processes rigorously support this position.”

These agencies’ refusal to “comment on intelligence matters” – meaning: talk at all about anything and everything they do – is precisely why whistleblowing is so urgent, the journalism that supports it so clearly in the public interest, and the increasingly unhinged attacks by these agencies so easy to understand. Claims that government agencies are infiltrating online communities and engaging in “false flag operations” to discredit targets are often dismissed as conspiracy theories, but these documents leave no doubt they are doing precisely that.

Whatever else is true, no government should be able to engage in these tactics: what justification is there for having government agencies target people – who have been charged with no crime – for reputation-destruction, infiltrate online political communities, and develop techniques for manipulating online discourse? But to allow those actions with no public knowledge or accountability is particularly unjustifiable.

It seems original site was created by someone who is no longer running their business, a software consultant that created their account in 2010 on Twitter. The domain most likely expired and then was bought by Trump, because the Twitter account has not been updated since it was created or they deleted all their tweets, and also it still links to the "truthsocial" domain on their profile

Social media sort of goes against the grain with me for several reasons. I looked at myspace at some point before 2oo4 when Facebook came out and was not interested. I was pushed by a girlfriend to try Facebook and that didn't happen until 2oo8. There was a point in time after that she wanted to 'exchange passwords' to each other's accounts and I thought she was loony. I logged in and told her to have a look. Not to mention the time she searched my entire hard drive looking for improprieties. She found a photo of an ex-girlfriend and nearly lost her mind.

Twitter? I thought this was absolutely useless for daily consumption. The one thing Twitter does great is inform of a major event globally with brevity and speed. But that is really all I can see. I am learning a little lately about data science and Twitter has value in this arena as well but I am not sure how people are really making money off the data.

Gab? I tried it. Basically a twitter knock off. I barely use it because the information is predictable and consistent and I do not seem to want to be inundated with the hard right, or the anti-semitics, or the trump lovers. I tried parler for a month and I thought that was garbage also, before it went down and after it came back.

I am grateful for Avalon. It seems like here, there is something for everyone. The demeanour of the participants is very relaxed and polite. It is almost uncanny how there are few problems and the people that cause problems are bounced pretty quickly. I think there is more truth here than anywhere, even though some topics are problematic for me to wrap my head around, like ufo's and aliens.

Truth social? I think it will be another cheap twit knock off and basically garbage computing. I think I will not sign on when it is open to the public. There are just some things one cannot unsee; and the truth is, it will be chock full of opinions. Which everyone has one.

Nothing beats talking to people face to face, even in this modern era.

Problem is, the guys who own the software that is being used, may sue and they have all the reasons to win. If the software is taken down, then there simply is no site at all, and then they (the Trump organization) will have to find an alternative, or hire someone to build one. And this will definitely slow things down for a year or more. All the stock will be worthless in that case

But if they release the modified software for anyone to see, there is also downside, any modifications they made, may have security issues, and this may allowed them to be hacked soon enough once people can read the changes made :)

Hard situation to be in. If i was Trump, i would have hired the owners of the Mastodon software to make a modified version for myself, so they would keep a separate license since i paid for this modification, while also making sure there are no obvious security issues. Someone needs to tell Trump to hire a better adviser about these things, because whoever came up with this idea, didn't chose the legal path at all :(

The way this may go is, the 'Mastodon' software owners will say "pay us for a license so you can use this software without releasing the sources to the public, OR take the site down". Whoever working for Trump made the choice to basically steal the software, is going to get their head cut :P and the owners of the software are going to get a very nice pay day. At this point i think that's what's going to happen

I withheld comment on that one, in lieu of it’s not exactly clear, to me anyway, what that really means and how it might be enforced.

It’s vague. On the one hand it could be used as a catch all like how the police can and do use “resisting arrest” and “obstruction of justice” willy nilly, just to get at someone they don’t like with a wide net.

On the other hand, it could simply mean they don’t want assholes in there every day just screaming hair on fire “Nazi! Nazi! Nazi!” all the time.
