NBC Deals with ‘Lowest TV Ratings in Olympic History’
February 8, 2022
By Team Terrell
https://theleoterrell.com/nbc-deals-with-lowest-tv-ratings-in-olympic-history/?fbclid=IwAR0FAJWPELHVYHjEYQtQ2B0v0iKqUT4MEPtwq5dhCR_xE093Hawd50aDk8U

"Instead of telling Olympic athletes not to speak freely while competing in Beijing such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should have never put them in that position to begin with. One of the consequences may be the “lowest TV ratings in Olympic history.”

Citizen Free Press reports “NBC is facing a cataclysmic loss of audience for the 2022 Winter Olympics as viewership tanked for Friday’s Opening Ceremony, averaging just 16 million.”

The new record low is significantly worse than the previous record low which was for the 1988 Calgary Opening Ceremony at 20.1 million. It’s an entire 43 percent below the 2018 Games in South Korea with 28.3 million viewers.

It’s not just the opening ceremony that is failing in the ratings department. Thursday’s “ratings disaster that saw just 7.7 million people tune in, dramatically below same-night audiences of 2018 (16 million) and 2014 from Russia (20.02 million).”

NBC said the 16 million is a “total audience delivery” and includes all of its networks and streaming. The television-only average audience was below 14 million for the day, per the preliminary data released by the network.Reports are being leaked out of China that their severe anti-COVID measures have made life inside its “closed-loop” a high-stress and near joyless experience for the athletes and a massive challenge for NBC.

As if enough stress weren’t on the backs of these young competitors attempting to live out their dreams, “athletes have complained about the fear of positive tests, substandard conditions in unnecessary “isolation centers” and the need to guard against China hacking into their phones and computers to mine data and steal identities.”

Not only are few people watching on television, but the “lack of fans in attendance doesn’t help either. Thursday’s ice skating competition was surreal, a performative event where the connection between competitor and crowd is paramount. Instead, with just 800 in attendance, it looked and sounded like a practice session, complete with music rattling around within the poor acoustics.”

All of this is a nightmare for NBC, which is paying the IOC $7.75 billion to broadcast the Olympics through 2032, writes Citizen Free Press. NBC is doing almost all it can but its reporters and crews are stuck in the “closed loop.”

Production value has been extremely limited as a result: “that eliminates live shots with mountains or historic buildings as backdrops as well as stories about the culture, architecture and people of China that can make the Olympics about more than just sport.” "

Pelosi Tells U.S. Athletes To Not ‘Speak Out’ Against China’s Human Rights Abuses
February 4, 2022
By Team Terrell

"During testimony before the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) told U.S. athletes to not “speak out” against China’s human rights abuses during the Winter Olympics because it could upset the communist country.

“I would say to our athletes — you are there to compete,” Pelosi said. “Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government because they are ruthless. I know there is a temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there, I respect that. But, I also worry about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations, to their families.”

As Bloomberg News reported, “The commission’s hearing on the eve of opening ceremonies for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing was organized as a platform for Pelosi and several activists to highlight China’s human rights record, including reports of forced labor and acts of genocide against the Uyghur ethnic community in the Xinjiang region as well as suppression of democratic protests in Hong Kong and religious repression of Tibet’s Buddhists.”

Pelosi’s comments sparked outrage from other members of Congress.

“Speaker Pelosi doesn’t want to upset the Chinese Communist Party,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) responded. “So she’s warning US Olympians to stay silent about China’s atrocities. No surprise this comes right as Democrats are trying to jam through the 3,000-page ‘America Concedes Act’ that helps China but hurts America.”

“The U.S. should be BACKING UP athletes using their freedom of self-expression to expose the Beijing communists for the murderers they are, NOT telling them to hide. Americans down cower to communists. We defeat them.” Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez (R-FL) said.

“Americans fight for freedom and defend the voiceless – if our athletes can’t display those American values while representing @TeamUSA in the Olympics, why are we there at all?” Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK) said. "

Thanks for all the updates onawah, very much appreciated. I spoke with a buddy of mine who trained for the 80 Olympics that were boycotted by U.S. He told me politics should never be involved in the Olympics. And for any company or tv channel the last spokesperson in the world I would have would be Pelosi , she's a big fat zero when it comes to credibilty and integrity.

Russian figure skater's positive drug test after winning gold in team event delays medal ceremony: report

The International Olympic Committee delayed the medal ceremony for the team figure skating competition on Tuesday over what it said were "legal issues," but according to reports, one Russian skater has tested positive for drugs.

A source told USA Today on Wednesday (https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/beijing/2022/02/09/olympic-figure-skating-team-medals-delayed-russian-drug-test/6717526001/) that one of the six members competing for the Russian Olympic Committee tested positive for drugs after winning gold in the three-day team event that concluded on Monday.

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, did not identify which skater turned back the positive test, but Russian media outlets later reported that 15-year-old superstar Kamila Valieva tested positive for a banned drug named Trimetazidine after the ceremony had already been postponed, according to a Reuters report.

The ROC, followed by the United States and Japan were to be honored during their official medal ceremony on Tuesday, but the event was pulled from the schedule without explanation.

IOC spokesman Mark Adams later told reporters during a daily news briefing that the issue required "legal consultation" with the governing body of skating. He offered little information other than confirming that "We have athletes that have won medals involved."

Reporters on Wednesday speculated if the issue could affect the podium.

"Let’s, for the sake of understanding, wait for some explanations either from our sports officials or from the IOC," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in response to questions.

The medals presentation could be further delayed if a team or skater were to be disqualified over the incident. In this case, Canada, which finished fourth in the event, could find itself on the podium.

The Russians are already serving a two-year ban, acting as representatives of the Russian Olympic Committee, after a large Russian state-sponsored doping program was first uncovered in 2016.
