My neighbour’s cat has its territory in the surrounding 5 gardens and a field.
His home has no garden, just a yard - therefore he secretes his trophies at the top of my garden, being central to his territory. His dismemberments litter up there, moles, rats, birdie detritus and meeces in pieces.
I have to encourage him in the afternoon to traverse the big olde kitchen garden wall to go home to his family, for roastie chicken, etc. However, his bits and pieces tend to litter the darkest of places….
Got back in, he’d scarpered along the big wall for his chicken, sat down, blinds closed, doing MOT car paperwork, then a ghastly whiff emanated from the floor, underfloor heating had exacerbated the problem, A mouses bottom was stuck on my shoe!!! Dashed outside to scrub it off. The moral of this is tread carefully, otherwise stinking detritus will stick to you… aaarrgghh!!!

 Oh yes, I can empathise... in cat psychology they often bring back presents to their loved ones, we often used to come back from town to find half a lizard on our doorstep. The cat obviously likes you!

Mine has abandonment issues and can only be out on her own for about 5 minutes before howling in distress at the door, so she's mainly an indoor cat and doesn't bring me presents. There are other cats around though who think that spaces in my flower beds are a huge litter tray, not at all pleasant to tread in... I have to keep my veggies behind wire mesh.

If you did want to deter the cat from turning your garden into a charnel house, one way to deter them is by leaving citrus peel scattered about. They hate the smell of it.

When I was about 14, we had a pregnant cat, Rapunzel, which awakened me at 4am one morning by delivering the 1st of that litter of 6 directly onto my cheek. I guess she liked me.

We also had her brother Tigger around (after Tigger on Winnie the Pooh, but gray and black -- later called Pigger at 23lbs), who would regularly catch a squirrel, eat it down to the hips, and deposit the remainder at the back door. Or with birds, everything except the beak, depositing that.

Also around at the same time as the warm moist newborn kitten on my face, were Rapunzel's daughter Rapunzel Jr., later just Junior, and Junior's daughter Weasel. All three orange/black/white tortoise shell coat, but Weasel was just ugly, hence the name.

All 3 females were pregnant, so within a week, we had 1 male adult, 3 female adults, and 18 kittens.

I've probably seen well over 100 cats come and go, but since early October have none for the 1st time since the mid 80s. Soon.

Way back another lifetime ago, we decided to get our first cat. Through work we heard of a barn cat that had had a litter if we were interested. We went in the barn and after some time the wife picked out one of the kittens. But for whatever reason, there was a kitten up on a rafter that caught my eye. I coaxed it down from its perch and allowed me to pick him up. His coat was different, mostly grey with some white and very soft and long. We picked that one instead. We named him Monty after the town the barn was in, Monteith.

Monty was unlike any other cat I've ever seen, even since. He was very friendly and made it a point to get to know all the neighbours. Many times we'd get the call, 'Your cat is over here at our place. He just wandered in and got comfortable...' After we knew him we'd just tell them to let him out and he'd find his way back. He used to leave me picked over bird parts in the sun room. But one day he just never came home.

My favourite cat was Mojo. We got him from the shelter. He was going to get put down and my wife could not bear the thought and viola!, cat #2! I remember him as this giant pure black cat with a massive chest and paws like a lynx. I reached in to scoop him out of the cage at the shelter and he sunk his fangs into me and wouldn't let go - he did not want to get out of the cage and everyone else already had cuts and scrapes trying to get him out so I gave it a go. He clamped on and I calmly pulled him out with those big fangs bringing up rivulets of blood in the meat between thumb and index finger. It hurt for months and took a long time to heal. I think he felt sorry because while everyone else was fair game he never again so much as scraped a claw along the back of my hand while we were playing. He and I were good friends. Whenever he came home he'd come find me and give me a special 'mrrrp' reserved just for me. He regularly used to leave me gruesome 'trophies' in the sun room, with him it was mice. Again one day he just never came home.

Now in this life we have Max. His name was not my doing and I had no influence. It was my spouse who decided that his given name from the shelter, Audrey, was not right and renamed him Max.

Max is a scared-i-cat. He spent his first two months in a shoe box by my side, never even venturing to the door of the room. Whenever a loud noise would startle him I'd place my hand on top of his head and just hold it there while cooing at him. That would settle him down. It would take him another several months before he got the courage to fully explore the accommodations. The first year he would not allow us to touch him. We never heard his voice that first year either. He hated any kind of contact besides the head holding, which he always liked. I had to do some therapy with him to develop some confidence in him by taking him out in the hallway. At first just the open door terrified him but slowly he acclimatized. Now he is a push over. He loves attention and boldly meows to get it. He greets our neighbours at the door has several dog friends and his best friend is a horse of a dog six times his size. They calmly greet each other nose to nose in the hallway, go figure...being a house cat he does not leave me any 'trophies'.

Cats are cool.

We once had a large, fat, fluffy, black mama cat that gave birth to 2 litters.
To our great surprise, for both litters, all the kittens looked exactly like mama, except each time there was 1 little Siamese.
Guess daddy was Siamese, although we never saw him.

After being spade, Paisley (her name) one day found a rabbit's nest in the yard, and I noticed her bringing a "trophy" into the house. I was aghast to realize she had a baby bunny in her mouth, thinking she had killed it, but found it to be quite alive. Apparently, she was carrying the little bunny back to her cat bed, where I discovered 3 more little rabbits! She had been gently stealing the little bunnies, one by one, to adopt a new litter for herself. She just loved being a mama.
