It's funny. I appreciate Stevie Ray for his guitar talent, but I never got into
his music. There was something that didn't sit right with me.
I much prefer this guy... 'nuf said. :)

I don't know many people who can't relate to Hendrix. :)
Hendrix was magical.
He played from his heart and soul and beyond.
It was as if he was from another planet, like he was possessed.
Players imitated/imitate or trie(d) to imitate Hendrix.
But no more than a few seconds of listening was needed to hear
the difference between the original and the wannabe's.
For me anyway, Hendrix was at an entirely different level (music, guitar technique and beyond)
than any of his peers.
For hard core guitar rockers, he is seen as God-like.

Never connected, was impressed by that Woodstock thing, really, but I never connected with any of his music besides that performance.
If you like Guitar Pickers and you're not familiar with Justin Johnson, the two of Ye should get acquainted.

"I'll Sing, But don't Record me!" (Former Voice of Ireland Contestant):
rCJfGkXNCic
On Halloween 2021, I went to Union Square (New York City) and asked random people to sing with me. That's when I met Nollaig O'connor! Though Nollaig loves to sing, she has been held back my shyness. That didn't stop her from being a contestant on "The Voice of Ireland" (a singing competition TV show in) in 2011. That also didn't stop her from singing with me on this day. In this video, play a song we both love, "Zombie" by the Cranberries. It clearly makes her happier, to have this random chance to sing one of her favorite songs in public. It did the same for me! As a musician, I'm all about creating musical experiences that have people feeling happy and free, and that's why the "Sing With Me" series exists. Since 2018, I have asked thousands of random people to sing with me on camera. A lot of people have said no, some have said no initially but changed their minds to yes, and some have said yes right away. I ask these people to sing with one purpose: to create a way for them to experience a sense of happiness and freedom they did not feel before. And much of the time, this actually works (and that makes ME happy).
Lyrics: Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence, caused such silence Who are we mistaken? But you see, it's not me It's not my family In your head, in your head, they are fighting With their tanks, and their bombs And their bombs, and their guns In your head, in your head they are crying In your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie What's in your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie, oh Do, do, do, do Do, do, do, do Do, do, do, do Do, do, do, do Another mother's breaking Heart is taking over When the violence causes silence We must be mistaken It's the same old theme Since nineteen-sixteen In your head, in your head, they're still fighting With their tanks, and their bombs And their bombs, and their guns In your head, in your head, they are dying In your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie What's in your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, ay, oh, ya ya

Beatles show in Hamburg, 1962. I was 3 years old then, and my parents only played big band music and talk radio. It would be 2 or 3 years until I heard the dulcet tones of “Hey, there, Georgie girl...” etc. on the car radio on the way to and from the ski hill. Probably some Beatles too.

I watched this, and quite enjoyed it, was curious if these where the Teskey brothers I knew. Nope.
John T. was my counseller one summer at camp, played great fingerstyle guitar for his songs for us. His brother was a program director or something, and played guitar too. This was ‘71, iirc.

i've buried so deep, it feels like another lifetime ...
she sang one of the multitude of "our songs" i had with my soulmate
deep, undeniable "love at first sight" love affair that lasted 3 decades ...
the part at @2:35 where she hits the high note?
used to just about pierce my heart ...
Eva was a truly extraordinary artist that sadly left us way too early

I first heard a recording of Eva around a dozen years ago.
I was blown away after listening to just a few seconds of her voice.
The emotion was raw, palpable. The tone, pitch, inflection, shading, it was all there.
She was totally captivating.
There was an undeniable pathos however to her voice and projection.
I had to dig deeper. Soon after I learned of her terminal illness.
We lost a very special person at far too young an age.
Her memory will last forever though.

Dire Staits, Brothers in Arms. Suited how my day has gone, the past few hours.
Tom Sawyer is playing now on the radio. Feels like it reflects how I handled the things, trying to be true and strong, asking for God’s power. Will try to find and embed that.

Rush, in Rio, because the crowds omg, wild. I saw them in the Maple Leaf Gardens, wasn’t impressed with the show. Optics sucked and the audio didn’t knock me down (used to being up near bands in a great small venue).
Try to follow Geddy’s bass lol, am not too proud to say I can’t. Once read a cool interview of him describing what that took to master. And of course Peart and guitar-guy add their magic.
I wonder if that was the Rio where Buckethead cast his chicken-coop-chops spell for the Metallica set.
Music is cool. Happy next week, everybody!

Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale
This piece was heavily influenced by Bach (music).
As a pop song it turned out to be a huge hit and
a 'pop masterpiece'.
Technically, as a piece of music, it would be considered
a run-of the-mill exercise for Bach, had he wrote it. :)
Nonetheless, it is extremely moving, even if you don't understand
the lyrics!

Post #666, eek!. Glen Campbell, Galveston. Reason is, I found a vid of the museum ship USS Texas going back there for drydock. Looked long and hard for a regular thread to drop it on, no luck.
First time other than on radio, and that not for decades, that I’ve heard the song. Nice! - and suits this return of the old battleship.

K/DA are a shamelessly phoney band, similar to Gorillaz, The Archies or The Monkeys. This band is populated by character from a computer game that I've never played called League of Legends. The idea of the game is you choose a 'warrior' to control, then run round a game map, killing monsters and collecting their treasure. There are hundreds of these 'warriors' available to choose to play with, each with their own literary backstory, politics and factions etc. The game producers have stolen 'hero' arch-types from all over the shop, to include them in the game, like for example there's a sort of Harry Potter look-a-like character you can select to play with, but Riot Games have spanned genres to enable cross-genre arch-types co-existing in the same fantasy world. Riot Games have pushed their product aggressively including a Netflix series starring some of their characters. The bands they've made are part of this aggressive push.
I watched a documentary about their bands, how Riot Games started them; they made a heavy metal band out of a few of their characters, whos lead singer was an undead wizard, and the drummer, who doesn't use drum sticks or a drum, instead smashes chunks out of the top of a mountain using war hammers. Riot Games obviously had a lot of fun with this cross-over.
But it didn't stop at the heavy metal band, Riot Games went on to enlist some of the top kpop stars of the time to manufacture a kpop band made from some of the other characters. No undead wizards this time, but there is a soulless snake woman demon, and a cryptid from korean folklore who seduces you then steals your life-force. But don't let that put you off, they've made some phenomenal pop music and videos using their motion capture infrastructure (that they have already for making games), multitude of animators and creative staff, and ridiculously high budget.
Dang this is catchy

Galija - Čujem te lepo kako dišeš (I can hear you breathing)
s-YgW9EW340
translation of the text :
Something is telling me watch out
she is not good for you, no, no...
she is not for you, no
turn around...
When you are little and alone
When you are a child you know...
Somebody's calling me, it's not her
no, no...
no, it's not her, no
no, no...
I know you are there...
Somewhere there...
I see you are looking for me...
I can't...
you are calling me...
I hear...
You are here...
I can hear your breathing
your breathing
here next to me...
You know I wont say a word about anything...
you know that I wont say a word about anything...
You know
you know me how I breath...
how I breathe...
beside you...
Does it all, when it ends,
begin?
Is it all ending now?
...
Somebody's calling me
it's not her, no, no...
no, it's not her, no
no, no...
I know you are here...
Somewhere here...
I can hear your voice...
you are calling me..
I can't...
And I remember
and I see you...
You are here...
I can hear your breathing
your breathing
here next to me...
You know I wont say a word about anything...
you know that I wont say a word about anything...
You know
you know me how I breath...
how I breathe...
beside you...
Does it all, when it ends,
begin?
Is it all ending now?
Where
tell me where are you...
once I know
I'll start easily...
Galija - Skadarska (Skadar Town St)
1PHewo8qBhg
translation:
I can't walk on the street
As "Skadar Town St"
I can't listen the music
As it has Hungary
I can't understand the coast
As it has The Adriatic Sea
There are no one, anymore
Like you and me
Only two windows are remain
Like two abyss
They lead to the bottom
I can't drink Rakia
As it has Čačak town
I can't love avenue
As "Makarska avenue"
I can't understand discord
As it has the Balkan Peninsula
There are no one, anymore
Like you and me
Only contradictions are remain
They have attracted to each other
Like before
(choir x4)
You never have asked
Where the circle closes
You never have asked
Who is the best friend
You never have asked
How a sin begins
You never have asked
Why it's all over

Did you sleep?
Did you dream?
That a mountain has crashed?
Does that annoy you
When I send you
A butterfly from the universe?
Did you dream?
How does disappear
Water from the Danube river?
Did you suffer
When you realized
That you had lost me?
You will find a flower that smells like me
You will find a flower that disappears
You will find a flower that smells like me
This will be a dying flower
Did you dream?
How does from the east
Secret message travel?
When I disappear
Let the waves of lust to
wake you up
You will find a flower that smells like me
You will find a flower that disappears
You will find a flower that smells like me
This will be a dying flower

Before 1976 Revisited: How Punk Became Punk:
6lyoAczdMSMFew genres have had the lasting impact of punk. 1976 is one of those seismic dividing lines in popular music. A history destroying year zero. The point after which everything changed. It was the year that The Ramones debut was released, the year that the first singles from the UK Punk scene were set loose upon an unprepared public. And while the punks wanted to remove themselves from the past, burn all that had come before, nothing happens within a vacuum. These bands didn't appear out of nowhere with the key principles of the genre locked in place. This innovative minimalist, three-chords and the truth, turbo-powered rebellious music had to have precedent. There were other artists that lead up to this era-defining moment in music that are either forgotten, ignored or not given credit. This is how Punk became punk.

From the commercial heights of nu metal to the more recent experiments with hip hop combining both emo and country, Genre fusion has come a long way. But back in the 90s Dance and Rock were separate entities. In the UK, The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, the Happy Mondays and of course New Order had been tinkering with dance music within a rock format but for the most part dance was dance, rock was rock. And rarely did anyone listen to both. Then came Liam Howlett and The Prodigy. They cared not for genre divides. Starting off as a chart-bothering rave act in 1990 with tracks like "Charly" and "Out of Space", by their second album, Music for the Jilted Generation, they had moved beyond pure dance into something way more interesting, for example on "No Good Start the Dance", "Poison" and "Voodoo People". Inspiring everyone from Death Grips, Pendulum, Refused, Enter Shikari and Skrillex. Their unique mix of electronica, hip hop and rock led to their storming dance-punk crossovers 1996’s “Firestarter” and "Breathe" on the album The Fat of the Land. With them, they proved that a song could still be both danceable and metal heavy. Even today, it remains as one of the heaviest UK number one singles of all time. This is New British Canon and this is the story of How “Firestarter” Won Over the Metalheads.

"Beloved Soul,
You are safe. You are held. You are home.
This new moon in Taurus falls on Earth Day, allowing you to be surrounded by a peaceful energy of grounding, support, and nourishment. In this sacred sound transmission, I invite you to let go of anything you desire to release -- whether it be stress, anxiety, fear, sadness, or a limiting belief. Allow the sacred sounds and tones to assist you as you let go.
Setting an intention for this New Moon Sound Healing can support you in opening your heart fully to the love of Mother Earth so that you can release and receive her deep healing and nurturing energy. You may feel called to set the intention to create a new pattern or habit for yourself that serves you.
After you release, I invite you to ask yourself:
"What does my new way of feeling and being look like if LOVE was present within me?"
Wishing you a beautiful, powerful, sacred journey during this time of release and renewal.
With all my heart,
~ Mei-lan"

From the Russian Jewish Pole Mieczysław Weinberg, who, fleeing the Nazi persecution of Jewish people in Poland, found asylum in the Soviet Union and got befriended with Dmitri Shostakovich – both composers entering a personal and creative friendship which, in the history of music, rivals the one between Haydn and Mozart. Just like the greatness of Haydn and Mozart can be compared but for all genuine and sincere listeners will never lead to a "he is the greater one" , this has also become the case with Shostakovich and Weinberg.
This is his Sixth Symphony, with boys’ choir, one of his many terrifyingly beautiful reminiscences of the victims of the Second World War:
Mieczysław Weinberg : Symphony No.6 in A minor - St Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra & Glinka Choral College Boys’ Choir conducted by Vladimir Lande (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqBzsUDLqB8)
The exquisitely arranged Bulgarian folk song you made us listen to, Mashika, reminded me of Weinberg’s work.

Another of the incredibly talented "fingerstyle" acoustic guitar players gracing this planet at the moment. For the guitar players out there, you'll appreciate the incredible technique.
Many crisp, clean guitar players keep the pinkie fingertip of the strumming/picking hand on the soundboard, as an anchor, to know where the strings are - not this guy! Amazing for him to hit precise harmonics during vigorous slap/pound picking where he is rhythmically raising his hand off the guitar and coming back down. His finger finds the harmonic with no anchor point. Like all people who have mastered a technique, he makes this look easy.
If you need a second dose (showing the technique I described above), try his song, "Stringslinger."
