Mumps for people of my generation were an accepted part of childhood, I had this disease when I was about 9 years old, I don't recall suffering too much just a slight discomfort with 'swollen glands' around the neck area under the jaw, I recall about 1 week away from school, finished. Perhaps it is the inability of today's parents to tolerate any type of discomfort in their children that enables the pharma companies to prey on people's softness - complications from such disease are rare, we expect a magic pill for everything these days.
