... that's the very wonderful 1973 film. Way ahead of its time, with inspired, moving music and a very very interesting premise.

I just sent it to a friend by WeTransfer, so it occurred to me that I could also post it to download here if anyone wants to.

If anyone's unfamiliar, here are just three of the songs, not in the order in which they feature. You'll have to click to watch them on YouTube (not here), but I highly highly recommend them all. You'll not be disappointed, and may be very greatly moved.

Pontious Pilate's Dream. Pilate is portrayed as the fall guy, with Herod as the villain. (This might have historical truth.) The song lasts a mere minute and a half, but is one of the most poignant things you'll ever hear.

A lovely song by Mary Magdalene, just as everything around her and the Disciples seemed to spiraling out of control.

Finally, one of the most haunting, beautiful love songs ever written. And the performance is strong and exquisite. Mary again, despairing of her great dilemma, her unrequited love for Jesus.

The entire score /lyrics is very thought provoking from several perspectives, including the Jewish authorities, the Romans, the populace the disciples. Excellent music. Makes a lot of sense of the complex issues surrounding the Biblical narrative. Really humanizes the actors, including Judas. Highly recommended. I’ll never forget it…know every word and note.

me too... :)... of the original album from the stage play that is...

there was a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar at the local theatre a few years ago and they did a really good job of it...

here's the opening song where Judas is expressing his dissatisfaction about the way things are going...

Heaven on their Minds...

Marcia Hines is also wonderful with her version.

And Marcia and Jon English and band here, although there is quite a bit of echo, it's still good to listen to.

I bought the LP set of the original concept album.
It was and is amazing!

There was a time I listened so often I knew most of the lyrics.

Great! One of my favourite musicals.
Saw it in London twice, last time in 2015, in Regents Park Open Air Theatre. Recommend the stage show and the venue, a real treat.
Below, is the trailer for that show and it truly deserved all it's 4/5 star reviews.

The guy in the gold outfit, is Herod and in the 2015 performance, he came down the ramp on some sort of contraption with wheels, under his outfit. In the clip, he's walking down the ramp, maybe there had been safety concerns!

The venue.

I remember my mother taking me to London back in the 70's or early 80's to watch this show live. It was the best musical I have seen so far in my 54 year old life!

Wiki = "Running for over eight years in London between 1972 and 1980, it held the record for longest-running West End musical before it was overtaken by Cats in 1989"

Thanks for reminding me Bill.
