Interesting.

Weinstein shows that fully taking the moral perspective into the account is just a way of dealing with the exponentially greater complexity that reality has anyway, whether we deny it or not. (Or, in other words, the ethical dimension of science is part of the scientific challenge and hence enthuses real scientists or philosophers or thinkers.) To be such a thinker is really what we should pursue.

Kisin however is satisfied with the satisfaction he obtains without having to shift his adjustment to the shifting complexity scope. “I’m satisfied with my life,” he thinks “so I am nog going to be bothered with perspectives that put my satisfaction on hold”.

Instead of, like Weinstein, adjusting his concern space to the widening scope thinking imposes upon him, he adjusts the scope thinking would impose on him to the satisfaction he earns in his concern space – and as a result stops thinking.

Whereas Weinstein enriches his thinking with his moral sense, Kisin reduces his moral sense to what he is able to think.

Weinstein shows superior intelligence and superior empathy – Kisin mediocre intelligence and mediocre empathy.

Some people do not allow themselves to point at the Elephant in the room by default using self-censorship to keep themselves "more credible" in the eyes of their peers?

Is it a form of cowardliness? ... Or are they in a temporary "phase" of denial?

I agree completely. And to your questions the answer is: yes, they are cowardly, and yes, they are in (permanent?) denial.

There are two things.

One is that the majority of humanity is just morally callous. Horror is something they learn from the movies. As televised or YouTubed news nowadays is built like "the movies", it is "the movies": plenty of horror movies around! Learning from it, they do not recognise it when it happens. A person torturing another person on their road to their job they do not register it; "after all we live in a simulation": it is virtual reality. Hence: weak empathy.

The other is that their own homicidal tendencies, their own proneness to cruelty are either suppressed and the suppression of it is also suppressed (classical psychosis: put it into the safe, lock the safe and throw the key to the safe into the canal) or it is "acted out" and then immediately double-suppressed: the car driver racing away after intentionally unintentionally hitting a pedestrian who just made one wrong step; the serial killer chopping up the body and feeding it to the chicken battery.

The majority of people are incapable of recognising evil because being capable would suppose the ability to see evil in themselves and walk the path of guilt and atonement.

Weinstein does use the word "shame" – in the meaning of feeling personal "guilt" for what is happening. So the strong empathy is there, and superior empathy knows what suppression of guilt is.

I don't know why it's done, but Chris Martenson of Peak Prosperity is one who is always doing that...ascribing destructive policies to ignorance rather taking the bull by the horns. It's irritating. Maybe it's simply too risky to his You Tube platform to call out the obvious agenda.
