View Full Version : Music with a strong message for the times

Music is one of the greatest ways for the people themselves to speak out.
It seems where other messages are censored lately, music is still allowed on the internet.
Here is a song with a particularly touching message:

Elektra (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkVNXYOAvf0) warns her mother, Klytemnestra, who has murdered her husband and Elektra’s father Agamemnon, that she will be slaughtered herself to atone for the murder.

Sorry to go off target for a moment, stumbled across an old Guns n Roses song - Civil War, looked up the lyrics and was impressed that a band of that ilk could pen this
Lyrics
Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before
Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before
My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars
D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land
And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
Ow, oh no, no, no, no, no
Look at the shoes you're filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more
My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no uh-oh-uh, no uh-oh, uh no
I don't need one more war
I don't need one more war
No, no, no, no uh-oh-uh, no uh-oh, uh no
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway?

Interesting guy, it is hardcore rap for many, he seems to have no strings attached to anything, doing on his own, but that I would have to dig more to know.
Anyway strong message, specially about Covaids.
There is quite a lot of old folks listening to him.. he got appreciated by the elderly instead of the young people.

First Man: I think, I think I am, therefore I am, I think.
Establishment: Of course you are my bright little star,
I've miles
And miles
Of files
Pretty files of your forefather's fruit
and now to suit our
great computer,
You're magnetic ink.
First Man: I'm more than that, I know I am, at least, I think I must be.
Inner Man: There you go man, keep as cool as you can.
Face piles
And piles
Of trials
With smiles.
It riles them to believe
that you perceive
the web they weave
And keep on thinking free.

Brave New World
Close your eyes and sleep
Ignore all the burdens that you keep
Come whatever may
They could never harm you anyway
Stirrings in the wind
Resonates a whisper from within
Warnings from afar
Telling you to heed the morning star
Waking from the dream
Witnessing the smoke that's rolling in
The end is what you fear
The scent of embers lingers in the air
It's like a web there is no escape from
It's got you trapped and you long for freedom
Every wish every dream was granted
Never knowing what they demanded
You see the wall how it's getting higher
You want to fight but you're all divided
It's not a world anyone can thrive in
Is this the world we were meant to grow in?
Somebody tell me where are we going?
A brave new world will rise
If we do not act upon its lies
Hold your tongues no more
Learn from all the ones who came before
Catch the wind and fight the storm
Through the fury we're holding on
Take your time but not too long
Make it worth the time you own
You woke a fire inside of me
Fanned the flame and made it breathe
You woke a fire inside of me
Inside of me
Inside of me

Harmony's thread Creativity to Inspire and Transform (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?118178-Creativity-to-Inspire-and-Transform&highlight=creativity) might be the closest, Doug. Many creative endeavors by members have been posted there already.

Thank you for sharing, this HK song was a revelation and a big success in France on social networks in the middle of covid :heart2: :facemask:
Dancing Again lyrics by HK
We want to continue to dance again
See our thoughts embrace our bodies
Spend our lives on a chord chart
Oh, no no no no no
We want to continue to dance again
See our thoughts embrace our bodies
Spend our lives on a chord chart
We are birds of passage
Never docile nor really wise
We don't pledge allegiance
At dawn in all circumstances
We come to break the silence
And when in the evening on TV
Mr good king has spoken
Came to announce the sentence
We show disrespect
But always with elegance
We want to continue to dance again
See our thoughts embrace our bodies
Spend our lives on a chord chart
Oh, no no no no no
We want to continue to dance again
See our thoughts embrace our bodies
Spend our lives on a chord chart
Auto-metro-work-consumer
Automatic certificate that we sign
Absurdity on prescription
And woe to him who thinks
And woe to him who dances
Every authoritative measure
Every whiff of security
See our confidence fly away
They are so insistent
To confine our consciousness
We want to continue to dance again
See our thoughts embrace our bodies
Spend our lives on a chord chart
Oh, no no no no no
We want to continue to dance again
See our thoughts embrace our bodies
Spend our lives on a chord chart
Let's not be impressionable
By all those unreasonable people
Fear sellers galore
Distressing, to the point of indecency
Let's keep them away
For our sanity
Social and environmental
Our smiles, our intelligence
Let's not be without resistance
The instruments of their madness
We want to continue to dance again
See our thoughts embrace our bodies
Spend our lives on a chord chart
Oh, no no no no no
We want to continue to dance again
See our thoughts embrace our bodies
Spend our lives on a chord chart

Thanks for sharing the lyrics, Lunesoleil. And I loved the video above. What a great movement that song was for France in the heart of covid. So full of uplifting human spirit. THAT is the kind of protest we need more of everywhere.

Thank You Carlitos.
I read the lyrics from your song above, and see it as another song of strength and spirit.
"I am very happy
So please hit me
I am very, very happy
So come on, hurt me
I'll grow back like a starfish
I'll grow back like a starfish
I'll grow back like a starfish
I'll grow back like a starfish"
Our inner spirit... they can't take that away from us!
And we shall stay strong.

"The kids couldn't hurt Jack
They tried and tried and tried
They dropped things on his back
And lied and lied and lied and lied and lied
But they couldn't stop Jack, or the waters lapping
And they couldn't prevent Jack from feeling happy"

You better think (think)
Think about what you're trying to do to me
Think (think, think)
Let your mind go, let yourself be free
Let's go back, let's go back
Let's go way on, way back when
I didn't even know you
You couldn't have been too much more than ten (just a child)
I ain't no psychiatrist, I ain't no doctor with degrees
But, it don't take too much high IQ's
To see what you're doing to me
You better think (think)
Think about what you're trying to do to me
Yeah, think (think, think)
Let your mind go, let yourself be free
Oh, freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom)
Oh, freedom, yeah, freedom
Freedom (freedom), oh, oh freedom (freedom)
Freedom, oh freedom
Hey, think about it, think about it
There ain't nothing you could ask
I could answer you but I won't (I won't)
But I was gonna change, but I'm not
If you keep doing things I don't
You better think (think)
Think about what you're trying to do to me
Oh Lord, think (think)
Let your mind go, let yourself be free
People walking around everyday
Playing games, taking scores
Trying to make other people lose their minds
Ah, be careful you don't lose yours, oh
Think (think)
Think about what you're trying to do to me, ooh
Think (think)
Let your mind go, let yourself be free
You need me (need me)
And I need you (don't you know)
Without each other there ain't nothing people can do, oh
Oh, hey, think about it, baby (What are you trying to do me)
Yeah, oh baby, think about it now, yeah
(Think about forgiveness, dream about forgiveness)
Think about forgiveness
Think about it, baby, baby
Think about forgiveness
Think about forgiveness
Think about forgiveness

This 1970 song inspires me, but it is with an inspiration beyond hair.
as5lE64J1hQ
Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It was getting kind of long
I could have said it was in my way
But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
And I feel like I owe it to someone
Must be because I had the flu for Christmas
And I'm not feeling up to par
It increases my paranoia
Like looking into a mirror and seeing a police car
But I'm not giving in an inch to fear
Cos I promised myself this year
I feel like I owe it to someone
When I finally get myself together
I'm gonna get down in some of that sweet summer weather
I'm going to find a space inside to laugh
Separate the wheat from the chaff
Cos I feel like I owe it, yeah
Said I feel like I owe it, yeah
You know I feel---- like I owe it yeah to someone

Raise up, shake them lazy bones
Read the T-shirt but still don't understand
Comin' home with a little apocalypse
It comes, now do you have time for this?
A three-tone carpet and a Jackie Chan spear
Lookin' at a hairdo and a belly full of beer
Well, I ain't no poet, ain't got no rhyme
But I got me a car and I know how to drive
In the event of pressure loss
All our lines are busy now
I will be laughing out loud anyhow
Every day a little apocalypse
Lay down, lay down next to this
Lookin' at the body, well, I don't even know his name
Call me in the morning, was a friend of mine
Well, the wind so strong, it's blowing us all around
Wind so strong, nobody settle down
Every day, another apocalypse
Had a TV but I don't know how deep it is
Please read the print advisory
Would you like to go ahead?
Dancin' wherever she goes, tippy toes
Rhetorical, memorial, invisible, incredible
Unstoppable, emotional, illogical, sensational
Little sister gotta take her medicine
Baby brother gonna do it all again
Run fast but cannot catch the bus
Funny feelin', this is part of us
And you must take your medicine
Getting better every day
Good for a limited time, feelin' fine
We will return your things to you
When it's time for you to leave
So quiet nobody knows, tippy toes

"Caminante, no hay camino"
Caminante, son tus huellas
el camino y nada más;
Caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar.
Al andar se hace el camino,
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la senda que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.
Caminante, no hay camino
sino estelas en la mar.
Traveler, your footprints
are the only road, nothing else.
Traveler, there is no road;
you make your own path as you walk.
As you walk, you make your own road,
and when you look back
you see the path
you will never travel again.
Traveler, there is no road;
only a ship's wake on the sea.

Hey You
Have you had enough of it?
How the blind are leading the blind
Hey you
Are you angered enough
Do you feel confined
Are you losing your mind
Hey You
Done putting up with it
Inner peace isn’t easy to find
Hey You
Are you strong enough to stop jumping in
Can we begin again then
And when you won’t let go
Just keep this thought in mind
The closest mirror reveals the true enemy staring back at you
Hey you, walking away
You’ve got the wrong kind of mindset, and it’s helping no one
Hey you throw it away
You’ll only grow to despise it
Realize it
Hey you
Hey you
Can you feel the effect of it
That shot keeps rotting your mind
Hey you
Have you woken up
Do you still deny it
Are you comply
Hey you
The world is so full of it
Madness is easy to find
Hey you
Is it bad enough
You continue to lie
Telling me you’re fine with it
You know you can’t let go
So keep this thought in mind
Your greatest enemy is still alive, and growing inside you
Hey you, walking away
You’ve got the wrong kind of mindset, and it’s helping no one
Hey you throw it away
You’ll only grow to despise it
Realize it
Hey you, walking away
You’ve got the wrong kind of mindset, and it’s helping no one
Hey you throw it away
You’ll only grow to despise it
Realize it
Hey you
There’s too many of us
There’s too many of us
There’s too many
Too many of us, there’s too many of us around
There’s too many of us
There’s too many of us
There’s too many
Too many of us, too many of us now
There’s too many of us
There’s too many of us
There’s too many, too many of us
There’s too many of us around
There’s too many of us
There’s too many of us
There’s too many
Hey you, walking away
You’ve got the wrong kind of mindset, and it’s helping no one
Hey you throw it away
You’ll only grow to despise it
Realize it
Hey you, walking away
You’ve got the wrong kind of mindset, and it’s helping no one
Hey you throw it away
You’ll only grow to despise it
You know you’ll grow to despise it
Hey you, there’s too many of us around
Hey you, there’s too many of us around
Hey you, there’s too many of us around

Thinking about this, and I would say yes, but particularly those in the formative years, say, around 12-23 maybe. The songs we hear during those years tend to stick in our heads for a lifetime and even seems to mold our tastes in music. Likely the lyrics shape perception, too.
(one reason why I get sad seeing many of the music videos that are geared to that age group recently.)

Marshall Mcluhan muddied the water more than he yanked out the fish. He snagged some real truths, then promptly lost them again, back into the increasingly muddy swirl.
Modern media has modelled itself on that very tragedy. The corporate media, deliberately, the alt media, more by mimicry.

Too many friends
My computer thinks I'm gay
I threw that piece of junk away
On the Champs-Élysées
As I was walking home
This is my last communiqué
Down the super-highway
All that I have left to say
In a single tome
I've got too many friends, too many people
That I'll never meet
And I'll never be there for
I'll never be there for
'Cause I'll never be there
If I could give it all away
Would it come back to me someday?
Like a needle in the hay
Or an expansive stone
But I've got a reason to declaim
The applications are to blame
For all my sorrow, and my pain
And feeling so alone
I've got too many friends, too many people
That I'll never meet
And I'll never be there for
I'll never be there for
'Cause I'll never be there
Got too many friends, too many people
That I'll never meet
And I'll never be there for
I'll never be there for
'Cause I'll never be there
My computer thinks I'm gay
What's the difference anyway?
When all the people do all day
Is staring into a phone
I've got too many friends too many people
That I'll never meet, I'll never be there for
I'll never be there for, 'cause I'll never be there
Too many friends too many people
That I'll never meet, I'll never be there for
I'll never be there for, 'cause I'll never be there
I'll never be there, I'll never be there
I'll never be there, I'll never be there

After over a decade of hiatus one of the best Progressive Rock bands is back, Steven Wilson's Porcupine Tree with new songs and some songs with interesting lyrics commenting on our times.
Herd Culling
Steven Wilson:
"Lyrically, 'Herd Culling' is about a very specific event in history, but it also deals with the broader theme of paranoia in the modern age - someone or something is coming up your driveway or in your front garden, and their/its motives are unclear."
Taken from a comment: "this song makes reference to SkinWalker Ranch, a place in Utah, which is famous for UFO (UAP) sightings and also is supposed to be cursed by a SkinWalker (Some kind of native american witch doctor) in the past. There are claims of big wolf like creatures roaming the ranch and killing the cattle, as well as the cattle mutilation found in several locations where UFO (UAP) presence is known."
l420X9T1a6E
Rats Return
Steven Wilson:
"This song is about those who claim to have the interests of the people at heart, but when it comes down to it there is only ego and self-interest. I find myself reflecting on what sort of person would actually be so driven as to want to rule over a whole nation, and aren’t these people by definition the very last people that should be allowed to do so? The rats will always save themselves first."

This song is lighting up social media right now and has over 4million views on youtube. To be honest, I don't even like rap/hip-hop or whatever you call this, and before today had never heard of Tom MacDonald, but the style of music doesn't matter here -- this is FIRE, and right now its striking a profound chord in many people in what are incredibly divisive times.

Ain't No Rock and Roll

"Ain't No Rock and Roll" by Five Times August
Songwriter: Bradley James Skistimas
Publisher: Seven Places Music (ASCAP)
Label: Baste Records
Lyrics:
Well there ain’t no rock and roll
Ever since they sold out Rolling Stone
All the words that were sung in the past
Will never feel the same when we’re looking back
All the old men sitting in their make up chair
With their gold record walls really couldn’t care
All the fame feels the same when you’ve had enough
So they don’t bother standing up
And there ain’t no peace and love
Ever since the sixties kids grew up
All the drugs and the girls and the cash
After all the songs it was gone in a flash
All those bad boy rebels and the attitude
What a show, we didn’t know that none of it was true
Only self serve anti-establishment
We were all so innocent
Because there ain’t no rock and roll
And the blues has lost it’s soul
All the punks gave the man control
And every pop star’s bought and sold
No, there ain’t no
Ain’t no rock and roll
And there ain’t no Joni, no Bob
No one stuck around for their protest job
All the stars and the big pharma whores
Shilling for a check from their corporate chores
All the actors say what they’re paid to say
While the fans take the blame
All the once cool fools that were me and you
Well they pushed us all away
Because there ain’t no rock and roll
And the blues has lost it’s soul
All the punks gave the man control
And every pop star’s bought and sold
No, there ain’t no
Ain’t no rock and roll
And there ain’t no Boss, no Queen
Never was a rage against the damn machine
No there ain’t no fighter in the foo
No more rockin’ in those free world shoes
All the high strung Neil Young wannabes
Yea their silence has been deafening
All the suits lick the boots of the government
What they sang they never meant
Because there ain’t no rock and roll
And the blues has lost it’s soul
All the punks gave the man control
And every pop star’s bought and sold
No, there ain’t no
Ain’t no rock and roll
No, there ain’t no
Ain’t no rock and roll
No, there ain’t no
Ain’t no rock and roll
No, there ain’t no
Ain’t no rock and roll

The second and final movement of Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto (1935), “to the Memory of an Angel”: the 18-year old daughter of Alma Mahler. After completion, Berg, 50, passed himself from an infected insect bite, unable to finish the orchestration of his monumental opera Lulu (sie elsewhere a mine post) – that was done fifty years later by Friedrich Cerha, at Pierre Boulez’ impulse.
Chaos. Ladders up and down from hell through earth. Obsessive rhythms. Twice ——— Calm. A Bach chorale. Peace, the sublime.
Andris Nelsons leads the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester. "Es spielt Baiba Skride.” Allegro. Adagio.

This one will put the fire in your belly!!
Sorry for the bad language :flower:
You really believe
We can survive all of this?
The black vacuum of the universe, it was designed
To swallow us whole
It's a losing game
We're at death's door, another world war
Wildfires and earthquakes I foresaw
A life in crisis, a deadly virus
Tsunamis of hate are gonna find us
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
We are ****ing ****ed
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
We are ****ing ****ed
We're at death's door, another world war
Wildfires and earthquakes I foresaw
A life in crisis, mutated virus
Tsunamis of hate are gonna drown us
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
We are ****ing ****ed
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
We are ****ing ****ed
True, just when you think
You are safe and secure
You'll forget what you need to remember, living in peace
But you're living a lie
The game is rigged
We're at death's door, another world war
Wildfires and earthquakes I foresaw
A life in crisis, mutated virus
Tsunamis of hate are gonna drown us
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
We are ****ing ****ed
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
We are ****ing ****ed
Hole up
Stockpile
Hoard up
We are getting ****ing ****ed
Ah, ah, ah-ah
We are getting ****ed
Ah, ah, ah-ah
We are getting ****ed
Hey, hey, hey, **** off
Hey, hey, hey, stockpile
Hey, hey, hey, **** off
Hey, hey, we are getting ****ing ****ed

Paranoia is in bloom, the PR transmissions will resume
They'll try to push drugs that keep us all dumbed down
And hope that we will never see the truth around
(So come on)
Another promise, another seed
Another packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed
And all the green belts wrapped around our minds
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined
(So come on)
They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
And we will be victorious
Interchanging mind control
Come let the revolution take its toll
If you could flick a switch and open your third eye
You'd see that we should never be afraid to die
(So come on)
Rise up and take the power back
It's time the fat cats had a heart attack
You know that their time's coming to an end
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend
(So come on)
They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
And we will be victorious
(So come on)
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
And we will be victorious
(So come on)
Hey, hey
Hey, hey

War is all around, I'm growing tired of fighting
I've been drained and I can't hide it
But I have strength for you, you're all that's real anymore
I am coming home now, I need your comfort
From this moment, from this moment
You will never be alone
We're bound together, now and forever
The loneliness has gone
States are crumbling, and walls are rising high again
It's no place for the faint-hearted
But my heart is strong 'cause now I know where I belong
It's you and I against the world, and we are free
From this moment, from this moment
You will never be alone
We're bound together, now and forever
The loneliness has gone
We've gone against the tide
All we have is each other now
And I am coming home now
I need your comfort
(From this moment) From this moment, (From this moment) from this moment
(You will never be alone) Never be alone, yeah
(We're bound together) We're bound together, (Now and forever) now and forever
(The loneliness has gone) The loneliness has gone
(From this moment) From this moment, (From this moment) from this moment
(You will never be alone) Never be alone
We're bound together, now and forever
The loneliness has gone
From this moment (From this moment), from this moment (From this moment)
You will never be alone
We're bound together, now and forever
The loneliness has gone
We're bound together
Now and forever
The loneliness has gone

Always wondered why exactly THIS music thread was not really that populated with song posts much more on a forum like THIS. Happy that it does now again.
:happythumbsup:YES!
I could also post so many more tunes, some are also in German (mostly rock or metal bands) but would need to provide the translations then. Let's see what I will find then.

A.I. has entered the chat, and it ain’t pretty, though it does sound kind of pretty.
Responding to norman’s post #26 on the “All Instruments All The Time” thread, from 20 April 2024. Thank you Bill, for the mention of and link to “Making one’s own Musical Instruments”. And thanks to Mathew and Huckleberry and Mizo and Mike Gorman and Open Minded Dude, and norman.
Chose this thread as it seems to be what I’d consider the best thread here about what we like in songs. Started by looking for any songwriting thread, and alas, but I still think a dedicated one would be useful.
Below is what had me twig on Norman’s post, Rick Beato’s test of the waters. Something something marches on, but some things don’t change.
This is a far more fascinating listen than you might expect on this topic, from The Highwire. The 1st 10 minutes is about a new A.I. song writing software with a couple of shocking examples. The conversation keeps on building from there.
I highly recommend this one.

Will These New AI Tools Make Songwriters Irrelevant In 2025?

“In this video, I explore how emerging AI-driven music tools are reshaping the songwriting landscape—both empowering creators and raising questions about authenticity and artistry.”

The comments on Rick’s vid are worth scanning, IMO. The few that I read, of the 2,500+, gave good perspectives on this.
For example:

the average person won't be able to tell the difference. I think for musicians, it's obvious that the voice and instruments are synthetic. but it's close enough especially with everything auto tuned to hell these days. but I suppose that's the rub: AI is only spitting out what it has referenced and most of what is out there is poppy and auto-tuned to hell. Humans are doing it, my hope is that the market become so saturated with stuff that sounds so similar that it moves artists to take more risks that AI can't so easily copy.

I hope people will value human made art more and more and want to see people live ….etc. as a result of all the AI slop.

Gives me hope.

Had an idea about writing a song,
set in the future, predicting what came along.
Could be a way to make money or friends,
might come in handy if trends keep looking wrong.
But you’d have to be pretty sure,
like don’t talk no flying cars.
Stick to flighty flying saucers,
and drop hints of jumprooms to Mars.

After listen I try to find something about this man, because I think is just "AI" playing with us...
I dint find ANYTHING about him ,except this: https://www.facebook.com/AndrewDykesTheBluesMan/videos/-brown-sugar-blues-version-andrew-dykes-the-blues-man-andrewdykes-brownsugarblue/1183842137003752/
Where there is someone from the comments with the same suspicion...
You Tube is full with such AI play list from any genre existing ...
I don't blame you, just I'm tracing such things some times ...
But song and text are good...

That is very possible, Vicus.
I had searched too, and saw that "he" was freshly starting a YouTube channel with his music.
Apparently there was one other song that had been publicized earlier - "Slow Ride to the Promised Land"
