I don't like reading on the computer for a variety of reasons, but a big one is I don't like having the big white screen shining at me. I've tried different ways to make reading easier but I think I've found the best thing, reader view.

Wade Frazier pumps out lots of great posts to read, but they're quite wordy. Here it is in a standard view:

And then literally just 1 click of the button and:

There are several free apps for different browsers. Just check and make sure they're not doing anything shady.

I hope this helps someone else, best of luck and much love my friends.

EDIT: This app is even better for reading sites that has popups and resizes. It cuts through all that bs and just lets you read the article. It doesn't always work, but it usually does.

This app is specifically for reading so it will resize the text, change fonts/colors to how you like and auto scroll as you read. And it works for all websites. It's suuuuper neat

Like I said it's really great for sites like news sites where there are lots of popups and screen resizing and all that annoying stuff.

Oh! I thought it was unlikely that I had found something right here that you had missed!! 😂😂😂😂

Haha no it's just that I am sick and tired of sites asking me to click this do that blah blah blah when I want to just read an article, especially with local news outlets. If anything you're the teacher and I'm your humble student.

The thing to remember with a dark 'skin' is that many colors don't show up well against a dark background. (And some colors readable against a dark background won't work on a white one.)

This works for both backgrounds
And so does this
And this.

But this doesn't work
Nor this
Nor this.
Nor this.

:)

I didn't mean to be a bother, genuinely thought maybe some people in the same boat as me. I'll drop it.

Strat it is great for you to share this, and I am sure it will be helpful to others that experience eye strain from bright backlighting on the screens.

I sure am in the same boat re this.
My "night shift screen"/ warm colour appearence is always on on my iphone.
I can not afford to use laptop/desktop computer - because I always check PA on the fly when I find time. To sit in peace and read/write for hours - mission imposible. Maybe one day in retirement. But it's good to know there's an app.. thanks

I think your post is invaluble to many!
I have been using "dark mode" and dark reader for over a decade by necessity, not by choice, as I develop eyestrain quickly.

This is available as a feature on newer phones as well as the ability to reduce blue light.

People would be surprised how much radiation their monitors and devices project at us and yes there are websites that test this....

So thank you for raising awareness!
