Being an avid student of Norse mythos and culture, the stories of trolls have always interested me. The folkloric, not the annoying internet variety. Lol.
They are purported to have had psychic abilities and there is even a specific type of magic in Norse culture known as Trolldomr. They are able to breed with humans and even in Scandinavia today some of the older folk will whisper that this one or that one has "troll blood". They are also known to have speech, though their tongue might be rather guttural to human ears. Further, they are known to hate Christianity and in later stories are said to roll boulders down from above to smash the roofs of churches.
Now let us consider the creature that in the US is known as Sasquatch. They too are said to have certain psychic abilities and some say they communicate with telepathy. There are several stories of human and sasquatch hybrids particularly amings Native Americans, however there are two stories from 20th century Europe of young women who were abducted by wild men and had strange pregnancies and children from these encounters. One Native American woman is an incident that comes to mind. Her son was fairly normal but you can see from his picture had had very sasquatch like features.
Sasquatch is notorious for throwing rocks at things and have done so with people's cabins. Albert Ostman spoke of his abduction by Sasquatch and spoke of their speech to one another. The Native Americans do not think of them as animals but rather wild men.
So I propose that trolls of European lore are actually a European Sasquatch. I have never seen this theory expounded upon anywhere else. I am curious to hear what others think of this?

Thanks for the post, most interesting.
Should there be a link to a photograph?

For the life of me I now can't find that photo of the son, but the name of one Native American woman who was abducted was Seraphine Long. Here is some info related to that story.

The other incident that led to a son named Patrick is documented here.

Another article by Sasquatch contactee SunBôw that is mentioning trolls as the European version of Sasquatch

In traditional rural folklore, the wild man most commonly represents strength, fertility, rebirth, and the ‘noble savage’ uncorrupted by modern civilization. In the Middle-Age, Wild Men often appear has heraldic symbols, over 200 families coat-or-arms depict them. In the Germanic countries, they were often described as trolls. Beowulf killed two of them.
SunBôw was told by the Sasquatch, that his grandfather, who was found as a baby in the woods, was a Sasquatch-human hybrid. In book 1 of "The sasquatch message to humanity" they go in more details about the topic of Human Sasquatch hybrids. These hybdrids help to keep the connection between both species, because they can easier connect to the collective soul of the Sasquatch species, which allows telepathic communication with them.
It is told that humans with Sasquatch genes in their ancestry can easier establish contact with them.

I have heard of the Woodwose! I think it is particular to England. I wonder how many people might have Sasquatch DNA around the world and what features are particular to them. Perhaps they have been exterminated in much of Europe and the wilds of Scandinavia is thr last bastion for them.
How the Sasquatch people were exterminated on the continents is described in
"The Sasquatch Message to Humanity" - Book 1, which can be read online here (but the PDF viewer on that page is not very handy):

Chapter 11 talks about this topic.
In book 2 there is another chapter about the history of Sasquatch.

Article found in a scrapbook: Woman says she fed sasquatch. Clipping is likely from a Central or Eastern Washington newspaper. #bigfoot
ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) - Jean Fitzgerald claims she has been feeding two bigfoot creatures in the Umpqua National Forest of southeastern Oregon. Mrs. Fitzgerald said her family first saw the creatures while they were camping. She said they watched two of the legendary Bigfoot—also called sasquatch—make a daily trek to a lake where they caught frogs. "They're just huge," she says, "seven and eight feet tall and four feet across the chest." "You might think I'm crazy," she says, "but it seems very intelligent. It hasn't threatened us and it has a raven that always accompanies it. The bird talks to the monster and almost seems like a pet." Mrs. Fitzgerald says the creatures seem to prefer tree bark and frogs to the food she leaves out. "I'm now going to try leaving candy," she says.
