Households would be given tokens for fuel in home and cars
Surplus units could be sold and extra tokens bought

A petrol rationing programme has been proposed by MPs as prices look likely to soar to £8 a gallon this summer.

Households would be given a set number of free energy 'tokens' which would be offset against any fuel burnt in a vehicle or at home, under the proposals made by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Peak Oil.

Under the Tradable Energy Quotas programme, surplus energy units could be sold and extra tokens bought.

WOW! I know that people here will not stand for this; what a joke.

Maybe, just maybe, those UK riots they are busy talking about will happen after all.

I dunno. From my understanding, this is kind of a necessary thing. I happen to believe peak oil is for real. If we can't somehow curb our overall cunsumption patterns, we are in deep doo doo.

The alternative would be just letting the market dictate price, and that would hurt people with less money, no?

Here's my favorite website on issues related:

http://www.chrismartenson.com/

His 'Crash Course' videos offer 4 free hours of densely packed information on the issues of energy, population, debt, money, etc - and how we are living in a time where we are experiencing the vertical climb of exponential increases .... the guy is smart, level headed, non inflammatory. Trained in science as well as business. Simply wonderful stuff.

The Oil Drum is a another good one, and it's full of high quality opinions/arguments on all sides of the issue. Gets very technical, and a bit over my head (ok, way over it).

Thanks for the info!

I dunno, seems its only the Mail that is reporting this and they are known for their right-wing nationalist views and sensationalist reporting. Time will tell I suppose....

It's entirely possible the PTB intend to price people out of their cars and onto public transport. It might surprise you to learn that right here in the UK, we pump more oil out of the North Sea every year, than we consume, but it's sold to overseas markets which artificially inflates the price of oil. Then we buy it back! It's very much a rigged game, oil is quite possibly the 2nd most abundant fluid on the planet. But If you have an unlimited supply of something, and want to create value, you need scarcity, the two work hand in hand, this is done by lowering oil production, invading an oil producing region, or the occassional Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Add in the fact that most Countries have an oil based economy and you soon realise the need/benefit of rigging the price of oil. Great if you're an oil baron, just not very fair on the rest of us. - How's that for a first post? - Veda.

We have been demanding clean energy...

at $10 a gallon, how long do you think it will take?

The Controllers are saying it will be painful, but a step that is necessary sooner or later...

OIL—you better be sitting down when you read this ! !

Here’s an astonishing read. Important and verifiable information :

About 6 months ago, the writer was watching a news program on oil and one of the Forbes Bros. was the guest. The host said to Forbes, “I am going to ask you a direct question and I would like a direct answer; how much oil does the U.S. have in the ground?” Forbes did not miss a beat, he said, “more than all the Middle East put together.” Please read below.

The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April 2008 that only scientists and oil men knew was coming, but man was it big. It was a revised report (hadn’t been updated since 1995) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota , western South Dakota, and extreme eastern Montana ….. check THIS out:

The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska ’s Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable… at $107 a barrel, we’re looking at a resource base worth more than $5…3 trillion.

“When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea…” says Terry Johnson, the Montana Legislature’s financial analyst.

“This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years,” reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette . It’s a formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred to as the ‘Bakken.’ It stretches from Northern Montana , through North Dakota and into Canada . For years, U. S. oil exploration has been considered a dead end. Even the ‘Big Oil’ companies gave up searching for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken’s massive reserves….. and we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL!

That’s enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 2041 years straight. And if THAT didn’t throw you on the floor, then this next one should – because it’s from 2006!

U… S. Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World

Stansberry Report Online – 4/20/2006

Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world. It is more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. In three and a half years of high oil prices none has been extracted. With this motherload of oil why are we still fighting over off-shore drilling?

They reported this stunning news: We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.. Here are the official estimates:

- 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia

- 18-times as much oil as Iraq
- 21-times as much oil as Kuwait

- 22-times as much oil as Iran

- 500-times as much oil as Yemen

- and it’s all right here in the Western United States .

HOW can this BE? HOW can we NOT BE extracting this? Because the environmentalists and others have blocked all efforts to help America become independent of foreign oil! Again, we are letting a small group of people dictate our lives and our economy…..WHY?

James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says we’ve got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2 TRILLION barrels untapped. That’s more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today, reports The Denver Post .
Don’t think ‘ OPEC ‘ will drop its price – even with this find? Think again! It’s all about the competitive marketplace, – it has to. Think OPEC just might be funding the environmentalists?

Got your attention yet? Now, while you’re thinking about it, do this:

Pass this along. If you don’t take a little time to do this, then you should stifle yourself the next time you complain about gas prices – by doing NOTHING, you forfeit your right to complain.

Now I just wonder what would happen in this country if every one of you sent this to every one in your address book.

By the way…this is all true. Check it out at the link below!!!
GOOGLE it, or follow this link. It will blow your mind.

They are literally attempting to force rioting through slow collapse... so your reactions allow them to 'control' you.

Most of you know this. This is the same tactic they are using today in America. A slow burn to justify controls and a police state -due to a purposely created explosion of anger.

I tell people that is what is going on.

I broadcast it, even to strangers, in crowds, when we sigh in distress-shaking our heads collectively over the world's obvious insanity.

I say it when at the bus stop, or in the line up at the market. When buying gas. At the line up in the bank.

I simply say it 'matter of fact'-like ....as if it is something we all know and discuss often.

I plant the seed. Constantly.

they've been rationing it here in the US under the 'Ethanol' guise for a bit now. 10% ethanol vs non ethanol gas. do the math with mpg and you'll SEE the difference.
