Wat Sam Phran is a very unusual design and my wife tells me it is relatively new - as in it is not an old, old temple that has stood for decades or longer. I visited a lot of temples in my five years in Thailand and never saw anything remotely similar - however, again thanks to my wife, it has been designed on some beliefs from an old story.

That's as much as I can help but maybe wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wat_Sam_Phran) can tell you more?

And a dragon theme, at that.

Touristy spot for sure, it is located in Nakhon Pathom, just outside Bangkok, 2 of my wife's sister live not very far from the place, I saw a few pictures but that alone didn't make me want to visit it, sure impressive work to build the structure.

Thailand has so many temples, some weird ones, just like European cities got a church every corner, here we got temples.. no big deal I guess, just the way things are.

Here is the beauty and the ugly all in one!

They have an entire section of this complex of temples dedicated to depict hell, how it looks like in accordance to Buddhism cosmology.. it worth the time visiting, I went there for a quick view and end up spending the entire day in their little museum and the premises around, it was really entertaining.

Here comes the ugly, and it is located in the same temple, one level lower than the large Buddha statue above.
